At 82, President Jomo Kenyatta is one of Africa's
elder statesmen, respected abroad and revered at
home. When he took over the leadership of his
country, after a bloody struggle against the British,
many observers thought that Kenya would soon
disintegrate under the pressures of inter-tribal rivalry.
But Kenyatta, or "Mzee - The Old One" as he is
affectionately called, has succeeded in welding the
warring factions into one nation. This profile looks
back over nine years of Kenyan independence and
includes rarely-seen film of the President relaxing
and dancing

Kenyatta ruled with an iron fist, just like his master did, nothing much has changed, same old problems only different people, but the power structure is just the same, the big names from Kenyatta era still control the politics and economy of Kenya, the gap between rich and poor is now even much bigger as millions of Kenyans live in abject poverty.
