I put together a HDZERO drone and conformal coated everything apart from the camera thats embedded in a block of foam anyway. Its great to whip out the waterboy when the weather tries to fuck you. In somewhere like the UK finding good weather is virtually impossible and when you do drizzle wont show up on weather radar and that screws you. Had a flight the other day was a long long way away got a drop on the lens im like shit and absolutely bolted home. I am planning to waterproof the next long range drone so that i can do that in typical uk weather also.
Exactly 😁. I dont have a great desire to specifically fly in the rain... but its nice to know I do have something that will comfortably fly in the rain should I need to
Have you seen the DarwinFPV Hulk? From what I've seen it's pretty decent, But it's still more than I want to spend right now. So I haven't tested it myself.
Yea I saw that some time back.... I mean fair play, to get that level of water proof is amazing! I didn't really want a full on water proof quad... I just wanted something that I could confidently fly in moderate rain without worrying about it falling out of the sky 😅. The mods I've done to this are very little, Iflight have done a great job from the factory.
@FPV-TV419 right. I wrapped mine in a plastic bag and a bunch of tape a while back, got a lot of advice. I'm currently working on a video about Conformal coating. Gonna see how that works. Cheers man, nice video and keep it up.
Maybe its not the best for a DJI copter but I have always just run mine under the tap if needed. With analogue the issue was always RF not water killing stuff... With all that water in the air the poor 5.8 cant penetrate and its like flying through a jungle (leaves = water) but with digital it looks to hold up close by, just don't go pushing it too far too quickly as your range will be trashed.
Yea I hear u mate... I dont particularly want to fly in the rain, but I wanted to test this set up just so I knew I had something that would fly in the rain if I needed or wanted to. Well... now your making me want to test the range now 😆
@@FPV-TV419 Everything we do is just in case... Or for the challenge :) Chances are though here in Blighty you will be glad you did try it out. It may only rain 98% of the time but he other 2% we have to land in puddles... And proper storms are fun.
Yep, I fly in the snow all the time without any protection, the problem comes when you unplug and then try to plug back in that's when you have a better chance of frying something. When I used to waterproof I just used corrosion X on everything, except the image and sensor/lens, and probably not the barometer if you use one. I've sprayed it on a drone without having to take it apart at all. Nice you can get out in the rain now👍
I can assure you that the 03 does not overheat or even get close to overheating when your flying. As the air comes in through the front, and out past the side plates keeping the air unit cool.
Pretty cool modification! I just got into FPV flying with my first ever drone, but it's been raining so much i havent gotten to fly as much as I'd like haha. I saw a video of someone doing a dive into water with a drone then taking off from the water after it surfaced, you might like it: ruclips.net/user/shortsOkpfqE0Jc6Y?si=bGYqJZbV7ISs1va5
bro just use corrosionX or silicon conformal coating. plenty of videos on the topic. theres even an fpv worry free product out on the shelves. what you're doing is quite unnecessary and ineffective.
Thanks. I did mention in the video I had actually silicone conformal coated the fc and esc board. However I'm not willing to split the 03 unit to conformal coat that, hence the side plates to stop water being sent straight into the side of the air unit 🤷

@@ElyPenner thanks dude 😊. Be great to see your video flying in the rain too!
Do you normally have that little rain and wind, that you call this heavy rain and strong wind?
Try butyl rubber…great waterproof and very flexible

Nice, but the light is terrible during storms, video won’t be great.
IM SORRY HOW DID THIS NOT BLOW UP
Air unit gets hot.
Air Unit needs air cooling.
Cover Air Unit.
Profit!
