Very helpful, thanks! And for future reference...R52 production ended in the 2008 model year on August 6, 2008. Even many in the MINI community tend to forget that supercharged production lasted into late 2008!

When replacing the filter you also might want to vacuum the dust out of there. This is a great video!

Thank you for taking the time and effort to make such a specific video on an old car! I know very little about cars but also know this is something I can save money doing myself on my '03 S, and this video helps a lot! I watched many other videos and wouldn't know to insert the edge of the filter into that little area outside the big slidey part, I would have tried inserting the whole thing into that main slidey part, so you saved me a lot of frustration. Thank you! Also appreciated how you mentioned that the 02 models came with screws but the ones after don't seem to. Maybe you're right and they just thought it was unnecessary and wanted to save a few cents per car haha. Out of curiosity, I would think that the bottom of the air box would be like vented so the air comes out of it into the cabin. Do you know where the air comes out? Is it the edges of that lid?

Hi there! Thank you for your kind comments. I couldn’t believe how many videos were out there where people visibly struggled putting the filter in because they didn’t know to put the edge of the filter in the tiny track! I figured I should do a video to show how to correctly insert the new filter. As for the air flow, incoming air comes in from below the windshield, through the filter (the air makes a 90° turn toward the driver’s side), and then into the rest of the HVAC box where there’s a flap that regulates where the air goes (e.g. defrost vents, floor vents, panel vents, etc) depending on the settings on the climate control panel on the dash. The air does not exit out the bottom of the filter box, the lid seals it up so that the incoming air is forced into the rest of the HVAC system where it is either heated or cooled, then directed to the vents. I hope this answers your question! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment and give me feedback. Much appreciated!

Did yours have four screws holding the cover up? I know that there is holes for them 🤔

The holes are there but have never had screws in them. I’ve only seen the screws installed (from the factory) on early 2002 models.

Thanks! Big help. Edit. You undersold what a pain in the ass those back clips are. You either need tiny but strong fingers or pry bar trim tool that curls back on itself.

Hi do you happen to know the maker of the fitted floor mats in this car? They are amazing. Great vid.

Yes - they are TuxMat floor mats, it is a company from Canada.
