Deserves to be recognised as one of the best No.8's of his era.
How he performed to such a level in tough circumstances with Italy for such a long time shows how good he was.
Thankfully his club career was more fruitful.
    A proper player 👍🏉

Italian GOAT no doubt. And this was just one facet of his play. He seemed to have an endless bag of tricks.

That move from the back of the scrum to pass it back to your flanker is pretty cool. I do wonder how many times it has failed but when it works it looks fabulous

Probably the best/most complete number 8 of the professional era, which is difficult to achieve as number 8’s more or less have to be a jack-of-all-trades.

If he was from New Zealand, he would have been world rugby player of the year at least twice

Hate to be the pedant but isn’t an offload considered a pass made while being tackled? Many of these are made just before contact.
Doesn’t diminish the quality. He had exceptional hands for a forward.
