@@InTheIdleShed but yeah otherwise great video man. I don't tend to hate remakes and always think whoever is curious enough will always check out the original (like me) but I can see why you stand by your point and I hope you continue to keep making videos like this
To me it will always be Apples and Oranges. Imo the Resdient Evil 1 remake absolutely smashes the original game in terms of atmosphere and just pure vibes. It also helps they play very similarly. On the other hand the Resident Evil 2 Remake doesn't replace the original as it adds and removes content as to exist alongside the Original. To me it's more of a case of when do we actually need a remake and in my opinion Silent Hill 2 never needed one. Despite its outdated gameplay it still holds up in its atmosphere and presentation all these years later. The remake is good sure but you can only wonder what the team could have done with the resources used on that for a brand new game. Also Fantastic Video, love the changes in aspect ratio.
As a guy that loved many of the originals you mentioned, and the remakes too, I looooved this video. Perfectly captures that internal struggle that happens whenever a new "Re-release" happens of something you LOVE. I just hope people don't drop the video early thinking its just a bias piece. On a side note, FF7 remake is amazing! Play it when/if you can/want. Great script too, the whole video oozes a comfy nostalgic early 2000's vibe. Hope to see more of you! Cheers.
Super chill video with great commentary, well done, I’m subbed! While I appreciate both remakes and new titles, I always prefer fresh games over a constant stream of remakes. That said, I have to admit that some areas in the SH2 remake feel like a step up. In the original, the boss fights have always been a weak spot for me. These big, emotional showdowns end up feeling underwhelming - just running from corner to corner in a rectangular room, shooting at the enemy. They're often too easy, with an overabundance of health and ammo that makes combat feel more like a minor inconvenience than a real challenge. And if you do decide to play on hard combat, it really drains the atmosphere when you're hacking at Pyramid Head for 20 minutes... The remake, however, seems to be addressing this. I haven’t finished it yet, but the Abstract Daddy fight on the hardest difficulty was one of the best boss encounters I’ve played. It was brutal, emotionally devastating, and genuinely hard to watch. This part of the original was always disturbing, but the remake amplifies that tenfold. Placing the boss fight in Angela's childhood home, with the physical manifestation of her trauma chasing you through its claustrophobic halls, was a masterstroke. It’s one of the most horrifying, visceral moments I’ve ever experienced in a game.
The way I see it, to each their own. A lot of what you say about remakes makes sense, and I understand. And yet, for me at least, remakes are awesome. Seeing these game worlds brought to life in HD is really something. The amount of times I just stopped moving and would take it all in…. My childhood, brought to the present day. Re4 and Dead space are the ones that come to mind. And I still play the OG re4 from time to time. They’re definitely different, one being better than and worse than the other. They’re definitely different. Frankly there’s some games that I don’t see with bright future. New halo games, dead space, dead rising. The chances of getting new games that actually exceed their predecessors is rare. While great games do still come out, I’m okay living in the past. Give me remakes, I’ll play the original and see how they compare, it’s a good time for me. But a lot of people do want the past to be the past. I’m not one of them. NOW LETS START RIOTING TILL WE GET A DEAD SPACE 2 REMAKE. (Great video btw, love the aesthetic.)
I played the original when it came out and I loved it, but I also enjoy the remake. SH2 has a great story and I'm okay with having newer generations experiencing that story with updated graphics and without the PS2's clunky controls.
there are lots of us who feel the same about this remake and remakes in general. i'm 28, i played Silent Hill 2 for the first time when i was around 13. it was a game that flipped my world upside down, but when i found out a few years back they are doing the remake, and it is done by another team and NOT Team Silent i was very skeptical, to say the least. i didn't want to play it, i never even thought about buying it, but it came out. i watched dozens of reviews but couldn't find anything substantial, so i decided "fuck it, i'll buy it and give it a try". and.... i like it. yes, it's not the OG, it doesn't have the same atmosphere, it's just not it. and I agree they should've named it something else, not stealing the "identity" of og game. but it's still a nice game, it's good that new gamers are gonna experience the game we loved for so long even in it's new state. and it shows that new devs love the og game as well. however, i wish they released the original Silent Hill 2 along with the release of the remake, so more people could buy it digitally.. so that's a huge missed opportunity on Konami's side. and speaking about remakes, I played Resident Evil 2 when i was 6, and it was the first game i ever played and finished. i loved everything about it and i have tender feelings for it, but what they did in remake is great. and so is RE4 remake. P.S. i subscribed back when I watched your first vid about Silent Hill 2, and here we are again 😄 love-love-love the atmosphere in your videos ♥
Change is not always for the better... But change is happening, change is the fuel of life. So, we have to deal with it, for the better and for the worse, generally both of them... I don't think you were wrong before you decided to move on, but you are right to accept the necessity of changing. That's said, I don't think we have to stop questioning this themes of remakes and remasters, I think it's a very important topic, specialy nowadays ! Thanks for your essay, it helped me think better. For the best, I hope ;)
I'm so tired of seeing reboots, remakes, sequels, and prequels dominate the industry. It feels like originality and risk-taking have been sacrificed for nostalgia and established franchises. That's why I've started turning to independent creators and studios who dare to bring fresh, bold ideas to life.
I played Silent hill 2 the day out it came out afor a lot of time one o fmy favoreite games when they announced the remake i got very worried but now i feel it was a very needed upgrade, the remake is betr at evrything and for me it still captures the essence of what i loved in the og
Is the thing that hurts the most of to a fan of an original franchise especially silent hill 2 is how everyone loves this remake and is saying its better than the original it angers me so much that people are saying it's better or even compares to the original when it is just straight up false the sad thing is we are overwhelmed by this stupid new audience that has not even played the original or last played it many years ago,and they are going to say it's the best thing they have ever played while this remake is so butchered and different form the original the atmosphere has been ruined so much(lacking the other worldly feel) and then they is Maria in which I dont want to talk about they is the combat that frustrates me because silent hill was never about combat at all infact that was one of the reasons that people hated silent hill homecoming it was not silent hill at all they is so many problems I have with this remake it pains so much to me cause this is happening to all of my favourite franchise and I am to watch all of this happen cause we are overwhelmed by this new audience we are a very small minority meaning we do not matter at all. Overall great video and review and I look forward to your upcoming videos
The only problem with re2 remake is how b scenario was butchered if it wasn't I would have fully agreed with your statement yeah it is not better than the original cause of that,If b scenario was perfect then I would go as far as to say it would have completely replaced the original but that's not the reality
@@sandromnator the horror element came from the controls being SO bad that you feared you wouldn’t be able to get out the way. I love the OG but from pretty much every standpoint the remake is superior
Shattered memories was never intended as a remake though, it just reimagined the concept of silent hill 1 as a psychologically focused one.
You are right actually. I had overlooked that.

Why is walter Sullivan reviewing silent hill 2

It's ok, James, it's different, but they can both co-exist.
SH2 remake just isn't the same as SH2.
Third person over the shoulder horror is so damn boring and played out already.

yup im trying to find a way to play the original emulator suggestions anyone?
Look into "Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition"
It has become my preferred way to play it.

Insufferable
Re2 remake is 100% by far a better game than the original. You’re just viewing it through rose tinted glasses. It is better in every way
I've never played the original but after listening to VA of the original I would never take the game serious, same as SH2

Nah, fixed camera tank controls was much better for horror gameplay.

what a "pick me" ass take, take those rose tinted glasses off lol
