Joe Louis was sitting ringside at the Larry Holmes/Trevor Burbick fight which was the night before the O'Grady/Kenty bout. He looked horrible and even my Mom (a nurse) commented at the time just how bad he appeared. Louis passed away just hours later.
Sean has a great personality and his humility comes through strongly. He dethroned another wonderful sportsman too. Both of them were good ambassadors of the sport.
@jacksongaanaina1366 they both fought my cousin Scottie Foreman
One of the best fight I have ever watched, beside Arguello vs Pryor, and Herns vs Hagler. Hilmer Kenty, and Sean O'Grady were two amazing warriors. What a Fight!
I agree, O'Grady beat Watt but was cheated and Pryor, Lewis Cheated Arguello, but still a great fight.
While it was less significant, I honestly think this deserved FOTY over Leonard vs Hearns based on the action it provided.
I always loved Howard Cosell's calling of fights. He just made it better and more exciting. RIP Howard!
I hated him. He called the knockdown a shot to the belly, He was a joke of a boxing expert who was wrong more than he was right.
Great fight. O'Grady put on a terrific display here.
What a great interview after the fight.Sean O'Grady is a great fighter and a great teacher of the sweet science of boxing.
I personally know him, he lives close and is a really great guy!
@@americancitizen4259 "The Champ", Sean O'Grady.
What a great champion in and out of the ring. Great interview after the fight very humble and respectful to Howard Cosell who didn’t give him a chance of winning the fight.
Sean was an animal in the ring, and went on to become the best boxing announcer I ever saw.
I gotta agree, always enjoyed Sean's commentary, great insight
@@petewoeger Try to find some of his fights. He was like the Tasmanian Devil, only serious. Really serious. I have no doubt that he´d be a champion in one or two weight classes today. None. As ferocious as they come and a total athlete.
I remember sometime in the mid-to-late 90s, USA Tuesday Night Fights went to Detroit for a show, and O’Grady spotted Kenty in the audience. He made it his business to go over and say hello to his “old friend Hilmer Kenty.” You woulda thought these guys were lifelong buddies!! Kenty was really happy to see him. It was all love between them, and I had to remind myself that O’Grady had beaten him for a world title. But, then again, most fighters have a great deal of respect for each other, and to be honest, O’Grady always sounded like a Kenty fanboy!😂 At the end of the day, they were two class acts.
Thanks for the upload. Love all the classics from the mid 70s through the 90s, especially the network tv broadcasts. Sure miss those. You are doing gawd's work.
Great referee in Larry Hazard! O"Grady with the business
Smart fighting by O’Grady. He and his team went into this fight with an excellent plan! He had a devastating body attack, and he also exploited the Kronk stable’s fatal flaw: their tendency to drop the left hand to their waist. All the early Kronk guys did that...including Hearns, and it was a dangerous habit. Kenty was the Kronk prototype and first champ, and this fight exposed the weaknesses of the Kronk style. I wonder if Sugar Ray saw this fight. This was a few months before the showdown with Hearns.
Your not far way ...
Gosh, I wish you and me and a lot of the commenters here could all sit around and talk boxing sometime. I wish we could find a good ghetto barber shop and just hang out.
this to me was one of the best! Lightweight fights of that division during the very colourful 1980's. Man they were great fights at this weight during that 80's decade and this is very much one of them It just doesn't get Much talked about recognition. Shame.
Whatever you think of Howard Cosell, that was one helluva remembrance of Joe Louis at the beginning of this video.
Thank you for this comment. I had very similar thoughts after listening to Cosell's opening remarks.
Howard Cosell was probably the greatest boxing announcer of all time... great story teller and great knowledge of the sport. As for the whatever you think of Howard Cosell part you'd have to be a complete and utter moron not to take in his great call.
I have to give Kenty some respect. He just got over sinus problems, and took more hard body shot's than I can ever remember in one fight. Sean clearly won the fight, and is just a beast. I remember him as a kid fighting, and I didn't realize Sean had 70 professional fight at 22, and won the title. I knew he was good, but ending his career 81-5 with 70 KO'S. The year he won the title he fought 4 times. The next year in 1982 he fought 5 times, then in 1983 he fought 2 time, and retired in March of that year, and he was only 24 year's old.
His early retirement was a full career. 70 fights is a lot of wear and tear on the body and he’d been fighting since he was a kid. I remember a very old interview where explained his body was done. Good to see his fights on RUclips. I remember watching this fight on regular TV with Cosell with the call.
With all due respect to Sean, a very good fighter and a worthy champion, many of those wins were over guaranteed losers. Thanks largely to Pat O'Grady.
Imagine a fight with O'grady & Mancini? That would have been great
That Fight Had CBS Written All Over it,if that fight happened
That body attack got the job done for Grady..
Ya don't wanna talk about it, Cosell would make you talk about it!
This is one of the best fights I’ve ever seen.
The quality of this video is really great.Looks like it was was just recorded.Good job by whoever posted it.
this was a great fight and Sean surprised me as I thought Hilmer would wear him down, just the opposite happened. Almost makes up for Sean being jobbed in Scotland
Kronk gym gym walked into a tiger that day !
The Kronk wars helped shorten Kinty's career.
It was Sean's night. Enjoyed him as a color commentar.
Typical Cosell, cutting off the true protagonist of this battle so he could hear himself talk. I always liked O'Grady's style and later his insightful boxing analyst skills on USA Network boxing.
This was a great performance by Sean O’Grady. Hilmer Kenty was a good champion. It is a shame that Sean got knocked out by Andy Ganigan after this fight. Sean was never the same after that fight!
Howard Cosell needs an eye doctor, that punch that floored Kenty was on the point of the chin, that's why when he got up he was wobbly, if it had happened earlier in the round Kenty would have been knocked out!,,,
I was thinking exactly the same thing. No boxer looks and walked the way Kenty did, after he went down with a punch to the "chest". He got hit right on his chin. He almost lost the fight in that round. Very bad call.
Rick Allen right absolutely you don't react like that from a body punch.Cmon Howie..
Cosell: "Boxing skills materially reduced" (32:08). Hilarious
Congratulations to you Sean O Grady. You showed resilience patience excellent communication to the body and head off the educated jabs. Timing Precision great quick reflexes to counter punch Kenty and break him down round by round. Statatem Strategy was incredible against an excellent boxer in Hilmer Kenty. O Grady Style & Skills in inside fighting doubling up on the inside multiple hooks followed by short sharp upper cuts. Well earned Victory. A real "Viking Warrior"
Howard who thought he knew everything about boxing once again is wrong, the punch was not to the belly but to his head.
I REMEMBER THIS FIGHT LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY. SEAN BEAT A GREAT BOXER IN KENTY. KILLED THE BODY. HIS FATHER RUINED HIS CAREER. PUT HIM IN WITH A SOUTHPAW WITH POWER, ANDY GANIGAN. AS CHAMP HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE CHANCE FOR BIG MONEY FIGHTS. HE WAS AT HIS BEST HERE!🥊🍀🥊🍀
Sean, was a crowd favorite and had a very good career. His downside was his lack of the Sunday punch.
O’Grady took him to the woodshed.
Kenty was a warrior as well. He met Sean in the center every round.
This fight took a heavy toll on both warriors. Pat O'Grady was certainly an "interesting" "character" to say the least.
Two Tall Lightweights
Can Somebody , Anybody’ compare to the ... ICONIC, ENCYCLOPEDIC iGREAT HOWARD COSELL ?!!!!!
バーンズが君臨する前のクロンクジムの出世頭ケンティ

Awesome display by Sean o' grady.with the body punches..
Howard Cosell was absolutely horrible
