I'll he the first to admit that it can be pretty easy to hold some hostility towards Lewis. But seeing where he came from and the sacrifices that he and his family have had to make, it shows that he deserves his success. As much as people might like to deny it, Lewis is one of the greatest of all time, if not the greatest, and that's something you can't take away from him. Great video Josh
I love how Lewis Hamilton showed how much talent he had and yet he was nowhere near a pay driver. He did not have the money like other drivers did. He came up through the ranks based on talent and dominance.
People aren't gonna truly start respecting Lewis until he's retired/not winning anymore which is really sad. We're truly witnessing a generational racing talent right now and most people don't fully appreciate greatness until it's no longer there anymore...
false, no true f1 fan doesnt respect lewis' talent, its just the way that he has won most of his championships is what bores most people, domination is never fun. we all watch to see a fight, same thing for vettel and schumacher. it only was fun when they were actually challenged. thats why this season is fantastic.
@@TheEvanovitch well funny how talent has to be covered due to the fact that you were bored watching the sport. You don't see this in any other sport but f1 and people like you are one of the reasons why we end up having a toxic fan base and culture in this sport.
I have been watching for 45 years or so and been privileged to watch so many of the Greats: I am now thankful to have been able to witness Lewis's career. And, coincidentaly, I grew-up in the same neighbourhood as Lewis, albeit some years earlier - however, I'd be a crap racing driver, so it wasn't something in the water...
This video was very much needed. Newer formula 1 fans only know him for "shoving Max into the wall at Silverstone on purpose". This man is one of the greatest ever.
He didn't do it on purpose. 🤣 That's just delusional. If he did he wouldn't have understeered into him, he would've kept the car relatively straight and just rammed Max. He was literally turning his steering wheel more than 45 degrees from the horizontal when the crash happened. A driver error, nothing more. He should've backed out.
Along with his impressive junior stats (and current GOAT level numbers) the fact that Lewis is officially one of the "old guard" now & is still giving F1's youngest guns (including the much hyped & heralded heir apparent... in equally competitive machinery, no less) a serious run for their money, says it all IMO. No further discussion on ablilities or talent needed.
@hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii yep, lewis’ form is especially impressive when you compare it to how hard Seb fell off. Nico basically retired since he said it took so much commitment to beat lewis
Lived right by Rye House for all my childhood. It's a dingy little spot in the middle of nowhere towns. But it's tinged with a little magic knowing Hamilton got his start there.
Hubby and I (pre-marriage) lived nearby (Potters Bar and High Barnet respectively. Yes, HB has a bit of respect lol. I deliberately moved down there!) We had a date night at the greyhound races in Rye House and by being cautious, and broke, we went out with £20 - barely enough, even nearly 40 years ago, for a night at a club - had a £1 bet on every race, bought chips and a beer, and still went home with a few quid! One of our best dates ever! (We're greyhound mad. On our 8th retiree now 😊) When I first heard about Lewis karting there, it made me feel even better about RH than I already had for near enough 20 years! I won't take anyone knocking the place 😅.
I still remember reading about this kid in 2006, who dominated the lower tiers, who just won the GP2 championship, and got a seat at McLaren. I think I still got that magazine. Boy, that 2007 season was something else, and we even got some more special seasons after that. We got #blessed with some ridiculously good drivers, and we should respect all of them.
Regardless of the car he’s in, there’s undeniable proof he’s on another level of talent . You may be fast on a car, but being able to be a 7 time world champion it’s impressive regardless.
One of my main inspirations in life being black and British. Regardless of what you think of him and the dumb things he occasionally says you have to respect his achievements. Truly one of the best to ever do it.
That's really the painful thing. He's the most arrogant person in F1. It's frustrating sometimes, it really just makes people forget what he's done and make them remember him because of his dumb ideas.
@@anthony.esper21 I wouldn't say he's arrogant, at least not as Arrogant as prime seb and everyone loves seb now. Imo when he's just being himself he's pretty likeable. It's just that when he does do something wrong it's blown uo by the fact people don't like dominance. When he retires or moves to a slower team people will warm up to him as they did Schumacher and Vettel.
@@Nox_Desiree When we arrive to that point, I'd love to see him change. I really wanna believe that. But it's unlikely. He's probably retiring when he isn't in a top team anymore.
Lewis' life story is exactly what every kid with a competitive mindset aspires to. And him promoting it will only breed more future champions! This guy is amazingly skilled and got there on merit, and the root cause is his dad completely supporting him.
Tbf it would be really cool if this became a series. It's really cool to learn about the junior careers of Formula 1 champions and there is no one better than Josh to do it!
watching lewis dominate recently has felt like busy work for everyone watching but reflecting on the past, it makes you realize that even he himself was an underdog; it hits you that he got extremely lucky. the dream to reach f1 looked dead on the scene on multiple occasions but he fought back against the odds, won, and the universe rewarded him as a result--- a scenario that is damn near impossible in today's junior racing scene, to put that into perspective. it was remarkable back then but seeing how tough young drivers have it today, it makes you really appreciate what took place and what's taken place since, even if you aren't a fan of hamilton's. he's is the one everyone's chasing right now, but for the longest time he was the one doing the chasing--- it just so happens to be that his dominance made people forget that his story is nothing short of astounding.
I grumble when everyone trips on their feet and give him the race wins…but how many times he’s raced back from poor starts/minor accidents/bad team calls and managed wins or podium when most people would have been happy with a point, just shows he is legit.
I‘m an absolute Sebastian Vettel Fan and I‘m really not a big Lewis Fan but you can‘t unsee how great he is really one of the best athlets of all Time.
I do respect Sebastian a lot for also being from quite humble origins. The oldest legends on the grid (Hamilton, Vettel, Alonso, Raikkonen) all came from working class families, which is funny considering that most of the new generation of potential WDC all have all had either money or connections from their families (George Russell being the only exception to this rule)
This was good, you must do Charles Leclerc next. Almost ran out of money to race at 14, Jean Todt stepped in to help fund him. Dad passed away just before racing to clinch the gp2 title, lost his god father Jules Bianchi, he then goes on to take that Ferrari seat Bianchi was likely to be in. I could go on...
its so weird that people hating on him just because he's.... winning? like what the fuck? of course he's winning. he's a competitor 💀 i hope lewis got his 8th win before retiring. would be the biggest flex ever to set a new record
I remember a great caption on a picture of Lewis Hamilton on some kiwi sports show back in 2007, it said 'Robot sent back from the future'. That always sums up for me how impressive he was in his debut F1 year
up until his last years in mclaren and especially when he was announced as a mercedes driver everyone thought his career was in the mud if you see the way he drove through karts and single seaters winning every single thing he drove in you would know that he deserves these 7 championships more than anyone else ever did
Hamilton moves to Mercedes in 2013: he's only doing this for money and to become a celebrity he'll never win another race with that team Hamilton starts winning championships in 2014: oh no he only wins because he has the best car Ricciardo/Vettel/Alonso/my grandma can beat him
If anything, he should have gotten more. 2012 and 2016 come to mind. His 2012 campaign was hampered by the poor reliability of the MP4-27 as well as McLaren's botched pitstops and strategy that year; in 2016 he also suffered from more reliability issues and bad luck although he could've maximised his results further in some of the races against Rosberg. Let's also acknowledge the fact that his teammate gallery is probably the strongest of any driver of his generation except for Kimi Raikkonen. Two of his teammates were defending champions (Alonso in 2007 and Button in 2010) and one beat him to the championship in a straight title fight (Nico Rosberg in 2016); every single one of his teammates are Grand Prix winners, including his current teammate George Russell (who claimed his long overdue first GP win at Brazil this year), and every single one apart from the champs (Alonso, Button, Rosberg) won their first GP whilst in their first year as teammate to Hamilton. That is why it's pure garbage to me that Hamilton is somehow overrated; the man may seem like a fake "diva" on social media, but behind that jetsetter's lifestyle is a true great driver that has been fine-tuned by adversity and learning from past mistakes.
Great video and one his numerous haters would do well to watch! I first heard of Lewis when he was in F3. I was actually in the same room as him in 2004. And even then people were saying "That's Lewis, he's going to F1!" Watched that race in Turkey live. And knew. KNEW! He was going to be a legend of F1 His dress sense is "unusual" His music is "not my thing" But fk me the bloke can drive the wheels off a racing car!
Imagine being a rookie driver on the biggest stage, fighting for the title, team mate is a double world fricking champion and your team caught red handed for cheating. That's how it was. Still, he just had the best RC car
-> He came runner-up in the Drivers' Championship in his first year in Formula One. -> He had tested fewer laps than teammate Fernando Alonso (at the time the defending champion, having won two consecutive titles prior to 2007) in the MP4-22, and still matched and sometimes beat him throughout the season. -> Won the title in his second year in F1. -> So far the only driver to have won a Grand Prix in every single season he has raced in F1. Even if this record fails to stand after 2022, he still shares a joint record with Michael Schumacher for having the most consecutive seasons in which he won at least one Grand Prix (15 seasons). -> Mercedes persuaded him to join the team to replace the retiring Michael Schumacher after 2012, not the other way round. He was Mercedes's first option for Schumacher's vacant seat. Some reports claim that Mercedes's team principal Ross Brawn and non-executive chairman and three-time World Drivers' Champion Niki Lauda had looked to speak to him since June 2012, three months before his announcement to join Mercedes in September of that year. -> Then-McLaren team principal Ron Dennis was so impressed by his career in karting that he was offered a place in the McLaren Young Drivers' Programme at the age of 13, then the youngest person to ever be signed by the Programme. F1 fans apparently want people to enter the sport on merit, rather than as "diversity hires". Well, here's a black guy who entered the sport because he won the GP2 championship on his first go. But that's still not skilled enough for them! *Or maybe they just don't want black people in the sport.*
Even if he's not my favourite driver, it's impossible to ignore just how damn good he is. He is 100% deserving of the success and accolades he's received in his career. I definitely understand wanting a change from the dominance at the top from Merc and Hamilton (myself included) but there is a reason they win all the time, they're bloody good at what they do.
That drive at Turkey in 2006, and as a matter of fact, his entire tenure in GP2, nearly never happened. When Lewis had a fallout with McLaren in 2004, he and his father had approached Williams for a drive in F1 for 2005. Had it not been for their engine supplier at the time, BMW, declining to fund his junior career as McLaren had, Hamilton would have been on the F1 grid as early as 2005.
Won a WDC in his second year in F1. Then completely dominated the V6 Hybrid Era. Whether people like him or not, he will be remembered along with guys like Schumacher, Senna, Lauda, Vettel, Fangio and many more.
of course he should be considered one of the greatest, but i hate when people say THE greatest, because there is no singular goat. also add alonso to that list, fantastic driver just didnt have the car for enough of his career
The V6 Hybrid era is the most fraud era of racing ever. LewMickey didn't dominate, Mercedes did. Put any decent driver in a a Mercedes and they'll win the championship.

This guy has never been normal at the wheel, decorated at every level. Mind-blowing to think he was two points away from being F3, GP2 and F1 champion consecutively.
It's like he was born w/ a fully matured mentality. More mature @ 3 yrs old than most people are their entire lives. Just an impressive individual, thru & thru👌🏾
Fangio only took 1 year contracts so he could always get a competitive car. In one season he even switched cars mid-season because a better teams car was available.
If you remember watching Blue Peter growing up and remember John Leslie, I was quite surprised Lewis wasn't traumatised when he was in the Blue Peter Garden! Makes his achievements even more worthwhile!
Hamilton could have won the championship...me thinks. But his first championship in 2007 could have been more likely had Alonso stayed in Renault, and Kimi stayed in McLaren.
Hamilton would have been world champion. Alonso and Hamilton took so many points off of each other that year, it left Raikkonen within striking distance of the title at all times. De La Rosa would have got smoked by Hamilton that year, no question at all.
I only watched that Blue Peter clip of him racing R/C cars around the garden yesterday. He shows that talent can come from anywhere and that the cost barriers to young drivers are deeply unfair.
I’ll admit he can be bit of a hard swallow to completely like Lewis, but the man can fucking drive, and I’m honored to be able to see someone making history like he is.
Thank you RUclips for finally recommending a good channel! You're one of few people who could make anyone interested in anything because of the way you present it! And your humour is so perfectly on point 😂
and even more to come. Not true. After the German Grand Prix, McLaren made some big updates and then had the fastest or at least second fastest car for half a season. We can argue for hours if Hamilton is better than Senna or Schumacher, but Clark is and will forever be the GOAT of motorsport, not just F1 in general.
@@usedtoexistonce Kovalainen scored 6 points finishes in 9 races after the updates, compared to one before them. And he also had a front row start in Europe. Kovalainen wasn't close to Hamilton the year before as well.

Honestly, as a new fan to F1 this season, the Hamilton hate has really been mad. A pretty dismal introduction to the community. It's probably just a small but very vocal portion, but like still, some people need to chill, it's a sport at the end of the day, not the end of the world.
Thanks for this. I've been a fan since I was 7 (I'm 43) and all the venom that I see online from fans new to the sport is depressing. Glad you enjoy the sport and see the bigger picture.
I'm a Hamilton fan but I really don't get why he does get so much hate . He is exactly what you don't really see anymore in terms of a driver who started with nothing and grafted his way to the top gotta appreciate that
How sad does your life have to be to hate on someone who has done absolutely nothing to you or your family or to someone else. And is obviously very talented
I love people who say "He only wins because he is in the best car" Do you know why he is in a competitive or the best car, because he has proved himself to be a champion? No top team is ever going to pick the worst driver if they can sign a top driver. You the people who say "He only wins because he is in the best car" are the sort of people that ignore how the driver they support wins in a competitive or best car, with the "He totally outpaced Hamilton with skill" They do make me laugh
I'd also point out that the drivers are a big part on why the best car is the best car, because they are the ones giving feedback and suggesting improvements to the engineers. Does anyone really think teams would spend tens of millions paying superstar drivers when they could hire a rookie for peanuts and get the same results while using the rest of that money for car development?
Its true though he is in the best car and F1 is truly an uncompetitive sport. Imagine if Verstappen's car was as equal to the Mercedes in Verstappen's first year we probably would get a close championship battle like we getting this year. In f1 it doesn't matter who drives the car all that matters is the car and equipment itself, the driver meant a lot more in the golden days of f1 when the real goats like Senna, Prost, Mansell, and Piquet battled it out and competed.
@@jrsmith5080 lol no. You can't just put any driver in a good car and expect them to win a championship. If that was the case, then explain Rosberg and Bottas not winning a championship.

Exactly this.
false, no true f1 fan doesnt respect lewis' talent, its just the way that he has won most of his championships is what bores most people, domination is never fun. we all watch to see a fight, same thing for vettel and schumacher. it only was fun when they were actually challenged. thats why this season is fantastic.

Facts. Hamilton is the G.O.A.T of F1 and deserves much more respect.
He didn't do it on purpose. 🤣 That's just delusional. If he did he wouldn't have understeered into him, he would've kept the car relatively straight and just rammed Max. He was literally turning his steering wheel more than 45 degrees from the horizontal when the crash happened.

On our 8th retiree now 😊)
When I first heard about Lewis karting there, it made me feel even better about RH than I already had for near enough 20 years! I won't take anyone knocking the place 😅.

watching lewis dominate recently has felt like busy work for everyone watching but reflecting on the past, it makes you realize that even he himself was an underdog; it hits you that he got extremely lucky. the dream to reach f1 looked dead on the scene on multiple occasions but he fought back against the odds, won, and the universe rewarded him as a result--- a scenario that is damn near impossible in today's junior racing scene, to put that into perspective.
it was remarkable back then but seeing how tough young drivers have it today, it makes you really appreciate what took place and what's taken place since, even if you aren't a fan of hamilton's. he's is the one everyone's chasing right now, but for the longest time he was the one doing the chasing--- it just so happens to be that his dominance made people forget that his story is nothing short of astounding.
I grumble when everyone trips on their feet and give him the race wins…but how many times he’s raced back from poor starts/minor accidents/bad team calls and managed wins or podium when most people would have been happy with a point, just shows he is legit.

I remember a great caption on a picture of Lewis Hamilton on some kiwi sports show back in 2007, it said 'Robot sent back from the future'. That always sums up for me how impressive he was in his debut F1 year
The first time I saw f1 cars at speed was through the S’s in Austin 2017.Lewis was just different. His speed and car control was unmatched by anyone.
Once you notice it seems so obvious.
up until his last years in mclaren and especially when he was announced as a mercedes driver everyone thought his career was in the mud if you see the way he drove through karts and single seaters winning every single thing he drove in you would know that he deserves these 7 championships more than anyone else ever did
Hamilton moves to Mercedes in 2013: he's only doing this for money and to become a celebrity he'll never win another race with that team
Hamilton starts winning championships in 2014: oh no he only wins because he has the best car Ricciardo/Vettel/Alonso/my grandma can beat him
If anything, he should have gotten more.
