Holland's best export is currently at the forefront of the Formula 1 title race. Max Verstappen's Formula 1 career thus far has been impressive to say the least, and it will continue on into the future. The groundwork for getting him into the sport however, was equally as remarkable.

True, because he didn't have to. He's just had some 23 karting titles from 2005 till 2013 & skipped almost all categories apart from FIA Euro F3 to go to F1 because he's that good.
Edit: I've never seen a junior driver reaching the end of his rookie season in Euro F3 & being like 1,5-2 seconds faster ON THE DRY with a F3 car & a mediocre team like Motorpark (not even Prema or Carlin) like Max did on race pace in the Macau GP.

Not to say I knew he was good before he was in F1 but..... I knew he was good before he was in F1! Seriously, anybody who was watching that 2014 F3 series at the time will surely agree, he was an absolute sensation. Yes, Ocon was ultimately more consistent and he deservedly won the title, but Max was the standout driver that year with his pure skill behind the wheel showing through. Especially when you consider it was his first car racing season. Also really appreciate Josh's comments about just appreciating Max for the insanely skilled driver he is. I've really never understood where people get off hating on him. Is he a straight talker? Hell yes. And that's not a bad thing. F1 badly needs more people who just cut through all the BS and speak their mind. He's not immature. He's not the impudent child people think he is. He's a very talented racing driver, and we really should appreciate that more. Drivers such as Ronnie Peterson or Ayrton Senna remind us of how sometimes we don't know what we've got until it's gone. I'm not saying Verstappen is going to get killed, but please people! Just enjoy this talent while you can, he is a special driver and to hate on him is missing the point of being an F1 fan entirely.

Both have been abnormally talented in their junior careers and truly deserve to be labelled as 'superdrivers' even amongst the F1 grid. And the next ones to follow are Leclerc and Russel, similarly winning everything in their junior careers (if I'm not wrong lol). We are really witnessing something legendary for the sport this year but the best showing for the future imo has been Leclerc and verstappen battling on silverstone in '19. That's what I was thinking, basically before Max came into F1 the teams stuck to their 'old' fashioned ways by keeping older drivers or waited for them to come of age while racing in F2. When Redbull contracted Max at 16 in 2014 and put him in a Toro Rosso 6 months later in 2015, the whole F1 establishment was bad mouthing Redbull how they could do that etc, etc. Until they saw the imo masterstroke Redbull had pulled off with Max, him keeping up with the rest of the grid easily despite his lack of experience. And that maybe it wasn't that bad to take a chance and go for younger drivers. Even Ferrari went for a young one suddenly with Charles. And the rest of the teams followed suit. A lot of people are always badmouthing Redbull but they are the only team which have given a chance or multiple chances, in some cases, to numerous drivers. if it wasn't for Redbull a lot of the drivers who are now in F1 would not be having the career they have now.

Which one race, he dominated by being 1.5-2s a lap faster... Now, that's impressive. What's makes that stupid fast is that the track has a teensy tiny dry laptime of _only 50s..._

hate to be that guy buck, lewis has literally been in the bets car/team very year expect 2104 when merc where focused on the 2015 rule changes... Great driver but honestly nothing Kimmi, Mika, Michael, Max , seb or fernando couldnt have done. 100% guarantee switch Lewis for any of those names listed and put them in the car lewis had and they would have achieved equal if not better.

Nowhere I say others are below Lewis. You shouldn't forget 2007-08 when comparing Lewis. He is a once in generation or few in a generation talent, there is no doubt in that. Max too is one such talent . Michael too was, Sebastian too is. Alonso is talented but made really bad choices with his timing of team shifting

@@daksh2953 the fact you think that farrari was a better car in 2018 shows your lack of knowledge.... And if Vettel was so bad or weak as a driver was was his team mate as far away from Lewis as Vettel was? Since the hybrid ear, It's been Merc as the top then everyone else. This is honestly the first season a car can actually compete with Merc and even then it's only because Merc are make tons of mistakes.
You want to blame Vettel for being a shit driver, oh and you want to talk about Aston Martin? It's a shit car is far worse than the car last year and if I'm not mistaken is Vettel not beating Strol?

without a doubt. Although it remains to be seen how he stacks up against George and Lando in somewhat equal machinery (we saw him vs Charles in a few races in 2019). Some amazing years to come. The future of F1 is in good hands. It wasn't looking that good 5 or so years ago if we're being honest.

I have seen a lot of the current drivers race the F3 round at Spa and from them all (Leclerc, Norris, Stroll, …) was Max the one that really stuck. I also saw him do some karting back in the day (at Genk) and he was one of a kind. You see talent like that just once every few decades. Fan or not, you got to respect his talent.

That's mean...just because he did it 9 times (if memory is correct..could be a few more) doesn't necessarily make it naturally gifted.... it could be a learned trick....
