    Hi guys. I just repaired the Z fuse of my m187. The led turned blue but the scooter isn’t turning on. I tried the battery to a friends m365 and the battery works. Any suggestings what to check-fix on my m187?
    Ps: when I am trying to power up the scooter the led blinks some times but the scooter remains off.

    • @DougHnut

      hopefully someone else can help you with that, i have never had to repair the fuse. i do know there is a reset button on the bms, but im sure you tried that already

      bms already reseted many times. The battery seems to run ok to another scooter but not mine :( so there something else happening with the scooter not with the battery. any ideas to check something else ?

    What I've learned from this and some other general battery videos is that assembling these packs is a crazy process that's just about Stone Age! Here we are in 2017 and we're still dealing with spot welds and solder? There has to be a better way than that.
    One question I have: If you had replaced those three batteries with the others, could that have upset the BMS since the batteries were of different specs? I wonder about that now because people might want to replace cheap Chinese batteries in low-end eScooters with better ones but I wonder how the BMS software would handle that.

    • @DougHnut
      @DougHnut  7 лет назад

      I think it has more to do with quality control than spots weld and solder. most cars today are held together by spot welds.
      i thought it may upset the BMS, just as the one disconnected battery had affected the scooter. but i was thinking as long as the battery i was putting in was superior to the other batteries, then the new battery would act as if were the old ones. i would be cirous to see how the BMS would handle the batteries if i made a complete battery set of the 3000mah cells. Ill consider that when i somehow destroy this battery pack

    • @mikecane
      @mikecane 7 лет назад

      Point taken about cars, except for cars it's now done all robotically. Those battery packs in China are all being done by hand and lack the QC robotic assembly has.
      I'm thinking the BMS software is programmed for certain voltage (or whatever, I have no electrical education) amounts and might get either confused by something different or waste the full capacity of the batteries by not charging them to their new and higher limit.

    Great vid and very educational. I was wondering tho3, without using a multimeter, how will you know which cell is which? Lets say how to tell which bunch off batteries is cell 1, 2, 3, and so forth?

    • @NorBdelta
      @NorBdelta 4 года назад

      The cell groups start from the side with the bms. You need a multi meter to determine which cell within the cell group is faulty however. Multimeters are extremely cheap so rather than play around in the dark, get one and do it the easy way.

    Great video, thanks! I'm also experiencing some weird voltage readings from the different cells. My range however is still ok-ish after 1600km. Yesterday I let my battery run completely flat. At 5% battery left, it didn't have enough power anymore to push me forward so I put it on a chair and let it run free until the battery was completely depleted. At that point cell 10 was at 2.746 volt, which is a difference of 0.5 volt with the highest cell. After charging it overnight cell 10 now sits at 4.124 and the other cells are around 4.154. Could this be because of a bad connection or perhaps a faulty battery of just normal wear and tear after a lot of (ab)use?

      Did u fix the problem, my cell 10 sits around 3.2 while rest 9 is around 3.7... and even recharging over night wont get any higher then 3.5 v while others goes to 4.1 v... ill check all connections are fine and even all cells on multimetar showing good voltage. What could be a problem

    I have a similar problems with c03. Performance dropped by 50% I did soldering on those 3 batteries on both sides but somehow this cell is charging to quickly and discharging so quicky to others. When charging is full this cell has 4.19 and all the rest at around 4.01. Could it be a dead battery in that parallel cell?

    Hi Dough, I wanted to know if its possible to brake the batteries to individual cells without cutting every cell out of the plastic. I understand i will have to rip of the spot welds but looking at the plastic shell i believe there must be some mechanism to held in place the cage on each side? Would you know how to? What else would you suggest while doing so?

    • @DougHnut
      @DougHnut  6 лет назад

      the black plastic shell is made from two pieces and held together by screws. but not sure why you would want to break the battery apart unless you are trying to replace an individual cell

      ahh. i dont travel much but i read that the max battery size for carry on is 100 watt hours. the m365 battery is 280 Wh, so you will need to break it down to 3 pieces. seems like too much work. have you considered a electric skateboard?. meepoboard sells replaceable 99Wh batteries for their boards

    my cell voltages are a litte strange(fully charged):
    C01: 4,098v
    C02: 4,144v
    C03: 4,146v
    C04: 4,148v

    C07: 4,153v
    C08: 4,155v
    C09: 4,153v
    C10: 4,152v
    Do I have a Problem?

I need to have the right case before i get it and since its 108cm long with the wheels its too long for transport as is. I will need to take the wheels off and try to fit it. Could you please tape measure end to end rear fork end to front fork end? Thanks very much. I would be very appreciative

    Got it. The scooter is not meant for off-road riding but rather for walking on pavements like a pavement with minor imperfections. We can say that if you had solid tires, the battery soldering would even go off on a sidewalk with small imperfections. Which is not the case with this scooter. Am I right?

    • @DougHnut

    Hello guys, I crossed the 1100 km line in the m365, I solded 2 contacts because the scooter wasn´t powering on. Now with full charge the kms that I can do dropped from 25 to 12, average. I see that all the battery packs are showing 4.11v but battery pack 2, 4,18v. Any ideas why the km´s dropped? Maybe the battery has reached its life expectancy?, Do you guys know where I can buy one? ideally latest version with not those soldering issues.

    • @DougHnut
      @DougHnut  7 лет назад

      i would take the battery out and measure every individual cell at the battery contacts points and not the nickel plates, making sure they are nearly equal. if one or more cells are not equal, check the nickel plates and see if they have come off the battery contacts points.
      congrats on crossing the 1000 km mark! im at ~700km and still get over 20km per charge

      Thanks for the quick response bud, I appreciate that. Tomorrow I´ll strip the battery and check those cells that you mentioned, the issue seems to be focused at pack 2 also, so I´ll investigate if I´m experiencing the same issue. I swapped the rear tire for a tubeless solid tire recently and I guess this has caused more vibrations when riding, therefore this unsoldering issues appeared, it is a rough guess but I believe makes sense. I know they released a new version of the scooter with reinforced welding on those contacts at the battery. I just checked that a new battery costs about 250 euros, I don´t know if it is worth buying or maybe going for a newer version of the scooter is better., just 100 euros difference. Thanks again, greetings from Barcelona!

    • @DougHnut
      @DougHnut  7 лет назад +2

      +Nicolás Carrión +Nicolás Carrión vibrations overs time will cause things to break. I have seen the updated battery in a diffrent video. But it looks like all they did was solder a few joints instead of spot welding. So we could easily do the same thing. I would see if you could fix your battery first before deciding to buy an updated one. 250 euros seems kinda pricey for a new battery but we dont really have a choice unless you are in russia. I would go for a whole new scooter just to have spare parts.

    • @rebootxy3796
      @rebootxy3796 7 лет назад +1

      Hi Doug - yes I think vibrations are the enemy of the battery and the PMB on this model - you might be interested to check out a video I did on this ruclips.net/video/pmytgJVYMSI/видео.html where I managed to source a much stronger and less flexible underscooter protection plate which also has cushioning strips to support the battery. Hopefully this might help. Not sure that it will be easy to source these strong protection plates in all countries but as a start it might be an idea to add in the protection strips which are very easy to find. Enjoyed your videos!

      @DougHnut  7 лет назад

      i have seen the mini/ferry videos on all his mods, too bad they aren't really accessible to anyone outside of russia. ill will add some support foam to the bottom side of the battery or on protection plate the next time i take it off. thanks!

    • @DougHnut
      @DougHnut  6 лет назад

      Thanks! no, i dislike the sold tire. it rides rougher, wears quickly and locks up easily when braking, causing flat spots on the tire which i then can feel when riding. some other users are also reporting that the get less range with the solid tire. CST now makes a new tire with a thicker tread area to resist objects piercing the tire

    Doug, glad you figured it out. Has the energy recovery mode issue been resolved with the latest firmware? What level would you suggest leaving it on? Weak, medium, or strong? And have you noticed a difference with each mode?

    • @DougHnut
      @DougHnut  7 лет назад

      +Vance Pon yes the energy recovery problem has been resolved with the latest update. I do caution you when regenerating on a fully charged battery, because it will cut the regenerating braking to prevent overcharging the battery. This wont be a problem once you have used up a bit of the battery first.
      I still leave it on weak because it freewheels the easiest when in weak mode vs med or strong.

    Doug, you mention that you rode the scooter in rain. Recently I read on a German forum that the ball bearings on the tires are not sealed, hence the scooter should not be exposed to rain. Can you comment on this?

    • @DougHnut
      @DougHnut  7 лет назад

      Malte Persike I have ridden twice in the rain so far and i will continue to do so until somthing breaks. Bearings are easy to get and replace with the right tools. I dont know fot sure what type of bearings are in this scooter, but i'd imagine that they should at least have a dust seal on them and not be a fully open bearing. If my bearings ever start to show excessive resistance or noise i will make a video on replacing them.

    • @DougHnut
      @DougHnut  7 лет назад +1

      I think when xiaomi said this scooter is waterproof, they meant that it should not be ridden in puddles deeper that 5cm or about 2inches. So no dropping the scooter in the ocean or trying to scoot across a river.

    • @MaltePersike
      @MaltePersike 7 лет назад

      That makes a lot of sense. After all, the internals are quite exposed due to the cooling vents at the bottom of the board. So, autumn, here we come!

    • @DougHnut

      it is possible, but you will need to find batteries that are identical or better(better capacity and constant amp draw) than the original. and it can be pretty tricky trying to disassemble a welded on pack with out shorting or damaging anything

    What are you using? I use ninebot, and it does not provide detailed voltages. I ran it a weird, but probably similar problem: The battery charges, but the acceleration seems significantly slower than before, and it almost never crosses 13 mph, whereas before, it consistently went 15-16 mph. I suspect one solder came loose, as I hit the bottom on my way back home on a pothole.

      i use the "mi home" app for android device. i believe the "mi home" app for apple devices will not show the detailed voltages. i hope you can fix it soon!

      @DanielJafari 7 лет назад

      Doug Hnut I really hope I can fix it. I really got used to the 15 mph and fast acceleration. This is no fun riding. Any suggestions? I see the battery charges all the way to stated 7800 mAh in app. My suspicion is the motor, as it just feels like not really do what it is supposed to.

    • @DougHnut
      @DougHnut  7 лет назад +1

      mine would also show 7800mAH fully charged with the battery problem, but i didn't have the issue of reaching max speed 25 kph/15 mph. this may be a dumb question, but is the scooter in "eco" mode? and also, is you tire pressure good? i run mine at 60 psi and it feels better. another thing to note is that if it is really cold out, the batteries cannot pump out as much amps as it can when it can at room temperature

    • @DanielJafari
      @DanielJafari 7 лет назад +1

      Doug Hnut you are a lifesaver and I'm an idiot. Somehow I totally have forgotten about the Eco mode, since I never used it after the very first ride. Last time I was at work, my co-workers took the liberty of trying the scooter and since they had no idea what they were doing, they must have turned it on by accident. Again, thanks so much, it's too cold outside now but I tried it inside and pretty sure order is restored to the universe. PS: have you seen the 3D fix people came up with for the wobbly vertical bar? www.thingiverse.com/thing:2551419
      I just ordered it for print. Will report if it makes any better.

    • @DanielJafari

    Is this defect in the battery frequent? Why does the solder break? Thank you.

    • @DougHnut
      @DougHnut  7 лет назад

      +Piacerte Almeida the battery pack is bolted to the bottom of the main chassis. And it is supported by a flexiable plastic bottom plate. So i think under very bumpy conditions, the battery cells shift a tiny bit. Over time this shifting will cause the battery terminal joints to break.
      The next time i take the bottom cover off, i will add an addition thin piece of foam to better support the battery and reduce movement.

    Do you charge your scooter until the tailight blinks or until it stops lighting up? I stop charging when the taillight starts to blink. I notice that this starts to happen when it hits 41.36 volts. I think it stops lighting up at 41.55 total volts, but you need to have it plugged in much longer for that to happen. And why does the taillight start to blink at 41.36 volts?

      i usually leave it on while it charges. i haven't confirmed this, but i've heard that leaving it switched on while charging will balance charge the batteries, and that this happens when the taillight starts to flash at the end of the charge cycle

    • @aragorn318
      @aragorn318 6 лет назад

      As soon as I start charging, I always turn it on to see how much charge the battery has through the app. But once it's on and it's charging, I don't think you can turn it off even if you wanted to

      Thanks for the reply and I guess the makes sense when it's switched on it's going to potentially have more control over the charging. I've just turned my scooter on while it's charging and the rear brake light is flashing very slowly (the battery is quite low), you mention it flashes at the end of the cycle, does your flash at the start of the cycle as well?

    Hi,
    I'll apologise in advance for the naivety of my question but I'm not electronically minded whatsoever. I have an M365 which is around 4 weeks old, but I've already noticed a reduction in overall performance. I'd estimate it's around 25% less efficient over the same distance as it was when I originally purchased the scooter. There has also been a noticeable decline in speed. I wouldn't attempt to emulate your diagnostic skills as it exceeds my intellectual capacity and I don't want to end up breaking it. But I did notice a 60v replacement battery available for the Xiaomi and was wondering if this would be a simple 'Plug & play' fix or would the ESC get damaged or destroyed? Also (and please excuse my ignorance) there are 24x3.7V cells but the system is 37 volts? How does that calculate, as the from my uneducated perspective, the accumulative voltage of the cells far exceeds 37v. Or have I got this totally wrong? Sorry for all the questions but electronics is like trying to understand quantum physics for me.

    • @DougHnut
      @DougHnut  6 лет назад

      correct me if im wrong but i think the 60v battery is only available in Russia. and in order to run the 60v battery you will need a lot work done to get it to work. such as a aftermarket speed controller and custom wiring. i think you are best off getting some one else to repair the battery, or just buy a new one.
      there are actually 30 cells. in a 10s3p configuration. 10 cells in SERIES at 3.7v per cell equals 37 volts. easy right? now take 3 of these 10 cell 37volt cell packs and wire them in PARALLEL and you will end up with a 37 volt battery pack that has 3 times the capacity of just one 10 cell pack

      now that battery you linked, the dimension will not fit inside the m365 battery housing. it says it is 70mm tall. the m365 battery is about 40mm tall. and not a lot of room to play with. also none of the connectors match the m365 battery connectors. www.dochello.ru/english this is where all the cool stuff for the m365 comes from, including the 60v battery. they actually do ship to USA but max 1000 gram parcel. battery for sure is gonna weight more than that

      Thank you for clarifying the battery issue. It's easy for naïve people to get tricked into buying these things if they're unaware of the housing requirements and imitations that you've kindly explained. They shouldn't be advertising it as a M365 replacement when it doesn't fit, particularly when the financial outlay is a considerable commitment for a battery.
      I tried the link you provided but unfortunately I can't seem to access it.
      I've ran into another issue today - rear puncture. The repair has been done, but getting the tyre back on is proving to be an almost impossible task. These things are great until they start going wrong. Thanks again.

      try googling "doc hello" should be the first link. as for trying to get the tire back on, it might help to use bicycle tire levers. there's lots of videos showing how to use them.

    Did the addition of thin piece foam work? You've done this for how long? Then this problem is common because of the lack of absorption of impact in the base of the battery, which is caused by the shaking. Am I right? Maybe it's a flaw in the scooter design. Thank you.

    • @DougHnut
      @DougHnut  7 лет назад

      +Piacerte Almeida i haven't added the foam yet but have other commenters suggest that to be done. Yes you are correct about the lack of abosorbtion from impact. I wouldnt say that it is a flaw in the design. i'd say that it is not designed for this type of abuse.
      Both times i had battery terminal issues was right after i took the scooter off roading. This scooter was defintly not designed for that type of riding. If it was, i'd expect to see some sort of suspension. The penumatic tires can only compensate for minor imperfections in the road and the occasional drop off a curb.

    Hi guys, I just got my M365 scooter and been riding it for a week now. Quick question, does anyone here know if it's optimal to charge it after every ride, or should I wait until the battery goes to at least below 50% before charging? Does this even matter? Is there such a thing as a maximum number of total charges within the batteries?

      This is a good question. The qualities of a Lion battery mean that it both does not like to be drained too low and it does not like to be stored for long periods above 70%. I think it is a good idea to let it go below 50 before charging but don't let it drain completely. Store at around 70% then top up to 100 just before (say night before) you need to use it - that seems the best advice out there.

    Please can? you tell me (maybe in the future you will need to know) '
    The measurement of the 3 wires from the BMC battery board to the electronic regulator (white yellow and green wires) voltage and resistance...
    Why? we shoukd to know these values? because in my case, after fixing so many times battery connectors by welding, finally a red led appears and dont know how to fix I checked fuses, contactcs, NTC ecc and in fact we olny need to aply 10S ion battery to the regulator and the right signal from these 3 wires , Another problem will be how to charge and discharge the battery but it is not a problem for me
    I need some one tell to me these values and maybe will be helpful for other people
    Sorry my english!!!!

    Hello, I have big problem. I just received my M365, did one test round and everything during the test ride was fine. When I connect M365 to MiHome, it shows me that firmware update 1.3.4 is available. I accept new firmware. During updating firmware (around 30% progress) the update process failed. It shows in the MiHome app that bluetooth connection to M365 was lost and from that point is M365 freezed. Three leds on the handlebar are stil on. I cant turn of the M365. I cant do anything with M365. As I wrote before just three leds are on and I cant turn them off in any way. MiHome app cant connect to M365 anymore, still trying to connect, but when 60% progress of trying to connect it fails to connect to M365. I think that mainboard get stucked during firmware update and is broken now. How can I reset mainboard? What if I remove powersupply from mainboard. Can i damage mainboard in this way when firmware upgrade was not finished well? Please help me. Thank you

      beng guds there is a way to solve it and you need another app for android to do some downgrades. Also heard that the phone needs to be connected with China to get the update in the right way.

    hi doug, i think like my scooter is really weaker when it hits less then 50% of battery, i can ussaly get 25km/h on flat street but going up to a little hill is really harder then some time ago. I chceked the battery packs voltage and they are all 3,55 and above. I noticed the problem since i am using solid tire on front wheel, but i dont understand how could this affect the performance. Have you noticed problem like this or do you have any ideas what could help? thanks !

    • @DougHnut
      @DougHnut  7 лет назад

      +Domink Knechta i have had other people that use the solid tire in the front, and they have told me that thier max speed, traction and battery range isnt as good when using penumatic tires.
      I personally ony used the soild tire in the rear and i really dont like it. Ride is rougher and the tires lock up much easier creating flat spots.

    • @DougHnut

      +Domink Knechta i have a video review on the solid tires in my playlist. There are some good comments in there too. Check it out. Thanks for watching.

      i used this charger. and solder wires to alligator clips. any lipo or liion charger should also work

      Thanks. I just ordered similar charger as well as soldering kit which I should receive within 5 days. On a side note, below are my cell pack readings.
      Charged(Next Day): #1 4.16v #2 4.07v #3-#10 4.12v-4.13v
      Ridden: #1 3.44v #2 4.07v #3-#10 3.80v
      I haven't opened up the battery pack yet but I suspect the exact same problem as you. Even cell pack #2 being the culprit. I wonder if Xiaomi mass produced the battery pack with this problem. Did you happen to buy your scooter around Sept 2017?

    • @redlyne22

      No, sealed lead acid batterys are big and heavy. Like car batterys. These are lithion ion. Exact chemistry might be ICR or maybe INR. Either way, these are much better then SLAcid batterys

    3500mAh (Panasonic NCR 18650 GA 3.7V 10A)
    or
    3200mAh (Panasonic NCR 18650 BD 3.7V 10A)
    (On my Xiaomi M365 NOTpro)? Will it work? Is more mah = better?

    These are not that great of batteries to use on older scooters. I have an original Schwinn S500 & the thing runs on 24V 10Ah. You can bump the power to 36V & it fun going 30mph but can be dangerous. So I modded the scooter added this battery only for the BMS maybe the cells to fight me. These high powered batteries drop the voltage so low when I go full throttle it would turn off on me then turn back on after a second or two. But if I maintain a steady speed from 1/4 to 3/4 it works flawless unless you come to a complete stop. You’ll have to kick off and twist the throttle slowly to get going again at high speed.
