Something I noticed about the Winter solider's Choreography that I love- he always opens the fight with something that puts him in immediate advantage. Fighting a dude who can fly and someone who can't? Throw the non flyer off the airship and their compatriot will be distracted trying to save them while you kick his arse. Car chase? Destroy the steering and hit them hard when they inevitably crash and are already dazed and/or injured. It gives him character without breaking his initial portrayal as a biological Terminator.
That’s what makes him stand out as the winter soldier. To create that feeling that you wouldn’t wanna mess with him. He can stop you from whatever you’re trying to do
I appreciate how they broke down and explained how Robert is an actual martial artists and Tom came from a dance and gymnastics background, able to be acrobatic. Chris Evans with dancing and being in the fight scenes. Appreciating the depth of this episode.
The moment when James turns to Gui and starts throwing demo punches at him, then just does a tiny gesture to get Gui to throw some back to show how Wing Chun works... That speaks volumes for the experience those two guys have.
Okay, James, you're iconic and I'm thrilled this episode has introduced you to people like me who weren't familiar with you even if they were with your work. JUST your fighting and stuntwork as Bucky in Winter Soldier would make you legendary, but doubling for a bunch of other characters AND designing a bunch of the action? Boss.
I absolutely loved this episode. I actually teared up listening to the story about how Tom Holland got the role. But really, this just solidifies how important the stunt guys are, not just for stunts but for the story of the movie and casting.
Even the little improvised demonstration Gui and James gave was impressive when demonstrating the centered marital arts style. Not even a second after James said "...comes from the outside", Gui swiped in from the side and James blocked it and continued talking/demonstrating it's truly a dance.
Omg I replayed that moment so many times to see what Gui actually responds to. What he responds to is James starting that sentence by pointing with his thumb to the outside, but because it's directly towards the camera you can't really see it. But just like dancers immediately interpret someone's intentions, Gui immediately understood that he then had to punch from the outside to demonstrate it. Absolutely phenomenal to watch stuntmen together.
I love that Gui is another presenter now. Like, him doing the intro is ace. Also the little story on Tom's audition is bloody wonderful. Think I've heard about him opening with the perfectly-performed flip, but knowing the full events (him just flipping about on the mat and such) makes it that much better. Also Chris just coming in to act opposite them on the auditions. What a guy.
This video has completely changed the way I think about action scenes. Hearing the incredible care and detail of every aspect of the Bucky/shield moment and the creative ingenuity of the massive Civil War fight(s)... I absolutely have a whole new appreciation of fight scenes
James is awesome. He's an entertaining, engaging speaker, and did such a great job of explaining all of the nuance and behind the scenes stuff. I'd love to see him as a recurring guest!
He must be very humble, as well. Even Gui was surprised at how often James was actually in the shots, that lets me assume James doesn't go around shouting "Oh, that's was me!" whenever he's in a scene.

This was a great episode! And as a Tom Holland fan I especially loved that story at 10:26 about his first audition, always great to see what peoples’ first reactions are to an actor. One of the best casting decisions Marvel has made.
@@caseymarkovic7991 Let's face it, with the number of characters they have, not many have been misses in terms of casting. Even some of the more outlandish choices, like Drax and Groot, they've worked so well.

Every time I see one of these, my mind is blown by the dedication and ability of the stunt teams on these films. There's so much stuff in the Marvel movies that I assumed was CG, like the dents in the cars after a dude gets kicked into them, for example. i love love love that Chris Evans just being a natural to pick up choreography and stunt stuff isn't made up and he relly did just put in the work for all of this. dude's a natural for this kind of thing, it's so sad to see him out of the MCU
Loved Niko's point about films in the MCU being achievements in cinema. I'm sure they'll be looked at that way as time goes on, but we're truly living in a historic part of cinema right now when it comes to comic book films and how good they are.
Great to have James on the show! Dude knows how to blend choreography and storytelling. Love that he's a comic book nerd too and knows when to insert those moments into the film. Smiled knowing that the entire airport scene from Civil War came out of a bunch of fans playing with action figures!
There's a movie called "Cat's Eye" from 1985 based on some Stephen King stories. There are maybe three different stories in it with some surprisingly famous actors. Anyway the point is that right at the end there is a sequence with a troll jumping around a bedroom scaring a young Drew Barrymore. Please do an episode on it. I don't know how they did the effects and I also think the stunt work must be worth discussing. Whether as bad or good. Anyway, just a suggestion you might not have seen before.
That's a very basic scene. Troll is a guy in a suit on a set with enlarged set pieces filmed as an element. Drew is a separate film element, clearly visible as green screen projection. The cat is a third film element. The tiny troll hand that touch's Drew's nose is a prop piece, a tiny puppeted arm in the shot with Drew. Nothing difficult in that one at all, not worth their time.
@@paulonius42 you think only difficult effects are fascinating? not simple effects that create great impact? they covered some of the original star wars effects and by your standards they're occasionally "nothing difficult", but it was great to have them break it down
I remember being scarred for a couple years straight because of that troll scene, and being unable to sleep without pulling my blanket all the way over my head. I've rewatched it recently, and was amazed how tame it actually is. Then I get confused at myself, since the exact same kid then watched the first "Alien" and his only thought was "This is so COOOOL"
Dude, that smackdown that Cap and Bucky deliver on Iron Man just bouncing the shield back and forth to one another is one of the most iconic shots of Civil War, and to hear that it was made up on the day just 20 minutes before shooting is incredible. Shows not only a lot of the talent of the stunt performers and the actors and the crew behind the camera, but also just how much freedom can be had even in these big, planned out, interconnected blockbusters that aren't as rigid as is speculated.
Crazy to think the Cap vs Bucky street fight hasn’t been broken down yet on this channel. But I’m totally here for it! Still one of the best hand to hand fight sequences in the MCU!
The story about Tom Holland doing flips is so great. I'm glad he's Peter Parker/Spider-Man. The entire backstory about Marvel's shots is interesting to hear. I so wanted to do stunts years ago before I enlisted. I was going and strong enough then, and only 1 knee surgery at the time. Wing Chun was the 1st martial I learned. Nice to hear that RDJ does it too. Mixing the fights up enough to star each character their own moments. Amazingly well done. Congratulations!
The Tom Holland audition story was so goooood, it got me emotional for the passion that he has to the character, he gets a lot of flak for his spidey but it's undoubtable how much he really loves the character.
when its all said and done he will become the best spiderman trust me this hate is a phase and he will probably do another trilogy or sequel and avengers before miles come in and then people will literally regret not appreciate him rn
Tom holland is doing a great job. It is the writers who had his spidey tread water in terms "will this sucker grow a braincell". I mean the whole plot of far from home was such a ridculous heap of bullshit, in that movie, peter parker was as dumb as an inflatable pool noodle.
@@trazyntheinfinite9895 true, and his spidey from Civil War seemed much more interesting than from the Homecoming trilogy. However NWH was a good way to end it.
@@20David13 I mean Tom hollands Spider-Man in general is bette in the movies where he’s not the main character I don’t expect the writing for those movies to get better at all but we’ll see.
Winter soldier’s still my favorite MCU film because of the fights, felt more grown up in a weird sense, like someone was taking the more grounded action seriously and made Cap a real contender to the rest of the team
Speaking of big hits, one of my favourite stories was from watching the director commentary on the movie Serenity. Joss talks about how now amount of CGI can imitate Nathan Fillion smashing his face into the flooring, he then follows up with a line about however if you ask him nice enough he will do it for free.
That captain America scene with meowmeow still chokes me up. What an amazing scene. His ability to innately know how to use the hammer and its lightening ability/summoning ability from watching Thor for years was so cool.
All the fans of action movies and not just MCU movies need to watch this to truly appreciate the actual amount of effort everyone both on and off the screen, from the director and writers, to the actors, the special effects team, cameramen and especially the stuntmen put into creating such amazing masterpieces for our entertainment. This is genuinely amazing. I never knew that the stuntmen had this level of decision making power when it comes to the impact a scene can have on the storyline and not just how good it looks during that particular scene for instance the decision to let the Winter soldier hold the shield for that iconic pose during the fight scene with Cap underneath the bridge.
Instead of Saturday morning cartoons, it's Saturday morning Corridor Crew Reacts. I love that you guys release these on a schedule. It's something I look forward to every Saturday.
It’s obvious the amount of work that goes into these movies but man just getting a sliver of the blood sweat and tears really makes you appreciate these people so much more. One thousand thanks to all the cast and crew from all these various productions.
I think this really goes to show the power of having people working on a project that also share the love and passion for it that the audience do, hearing james talk about how his love for the comics influenced the choreography and story telling in the action was so satisfying because it truly felt like a love letter to the origins as a watcher.
This is easily the best (atleast my favourite) video that you´ve done. I had so much respect for the actor and stunt coordinators, doubles etc. already, but this made me respect them even more (honestly this made me appreciate the whole production that goes into movies more). Everybody who is interested in movies should watch this video because you get everything in so little time
The Endgame part about it also being the endgame/evolution of each character's fighting style was really interesting. I would love a video going through every character's fight in the final battle.
Yes that's true. Almost makes we want to go back and watch all the movies in sequence to witness the foreshadowing, and payoff in Endgame, in terms of fighting styles and abilities.
Love it. Absolutely love it. Having those guys coming in and explaining what they do is why I love cinema magic. Thanks Gui, thanks James and thanks Corridor for sharing this with us, that's amazing.
I always have to remind myself at how spoiled we are to have so many super heroes being adapted to film and tv and I’m glad Nico said what he said because I feel like it’s something that many people forget 😁 this is probably my favourite episode of this series so far 👏👏👏
RDJ also did that Wing Chun fight style in Iron Man 3, the scene where he's testing the Mark 42. He did it on a wooden dummy, and in front of Dum-E while filming.
Winter Soldier is my personal favourite Marvel movie, it was suspenseful but still action-filled, and had some of the best dialogue and character development of any of the films, and the cinematography and fight choreography were next level
Just imagine Tom doing his crazy gymnastic skill infront of Tobey and Andrew while shooting. They'll be like 'u trying to be real Spiderman or something' ??? Lol
Can we please have a stuntmen react to “TENET” Oslo Freeport fight scene. Fight choreography really impressive on how they made someone moving backwards/inverted.

i love love love that Chris Evans just being a natural to pick up choreography and stunt stuff isn't made up and he relly did just put in the work for all of this. dude's a natural for this kind of thing, it's so sad to see him out of the MCU
James just bringing up “splash panel” brought a smile to my face. He’s passionate about his career while also being passionate about his nerdy side.
Sorry for piggy-backing - but Cynthia Rothrock exists! am I going crazy? where are her stunts?
I always LOVED the little goblin or whatever it is from cats eye that tries to steal drew berrymores soul haha
Wow amazing to hear how much respect that dude has for Tom he seems like a solid guy
I've heard that Tom Holland audition story repeated from so many different sources, but I loved James's retelling the BEST! 😍
Gui is such an amazing hype man. The editor's sound effect additions were on point.
02:15 _That kick! Right there!_
My favourite combat shot in all of the MCU.
Though it's not live-action, I'd be curious to see breakdowns of the fight sequences in ARCANE. They're so visceral and next level.
This one, please! ☝🏼
yess
Hearing the Tom holland story, legit got me emotional. That stuff genuinely seems magical to experience. Amazing \m/
Nah they probably did it before, I think Clint was there.
@@heisenbergbad5375 then I may revise my statement with "expertly broken down"
One of the best hand to hand fight in cinematic history
In avengers endgame seeing Captain america use thors hammer was awesome, its really cool seeing behind the scenes footage for that.
The Black Panther in Civil War definitely had some of the best and coolest stunts imo.
Best version of his suit too
The Tom Holland audition story was so goooood, it got me emotional for the passion that he has to the character, he gets a lot of flak for his spidey but it's undoubtable how much he really loves the character.
when its all said and done he will become the best spiderman trust me this hate is a phase and he will probably do another trilogy or sequel and avengers before miles come in and then people will literally regret not appreciate him rn
@@Karma-pq9fi if he gets like a sam raimi or something similar for the next trilogy i think he wins an oscar lmaoo it would be peak spiderman
The story about Tom Holland has to be one of my favorite Hollywood stories I've heard.
Winter soldier’s still my favorite MCU film because of the fights, felt more grown up in a weird sense, like someone was taking the more grounded action seriously and made Cap a real contender to the rest of the team
This fight scene is one of the best no caps. The choreography, emotions, background music everything was captivating.
Speaking of big hits, one of my favourite stories was from watching the director commentary on the movie Serenity. Joss talks about how now amount of CGI can imitate Nathan Fillion smashing his face into the flooring, he then follows up with a line about however if you ask him nice enough he will do it for free.
love how Gui immediately was like NAH you all have to know who you are about to learn from 😭😂😂
That captain America scene with meowmeow still chokes me up.
Same! Helps with the stress of life and I love them for it!
It’s obvious the amount of work that goes into these movies but man just getting a sliver of the blood sweat and tears really makes you appreciate these people so much more. One thousand thanks to all the cast and crew from all these various productions.
What kills me is that no one is talking about James's pitch perfect Tom Holland impression.
Man James Young is instantly one of the coolest dude alive in my book after this video. He and his works are simply amazing
Gui is the best add boys, Keep him around pleeeease
I think this really goes to show the power of having people working on a project that also share the love and passion for it that the audience do, hearing james talk about how his love for the comics influenced the choreography and story telling in the action was so satisfying because it truly felt like a love letter to the origins as a watcher.
This is easily the best (atleast my favourite) video that you´ve done. I had so much respect for the actor and stunt coordinators, doubles etc. already, but this made me respect them even more (honestly this made me appreciate the whole production that goes into movies more). Everybody who is interested in movies should watch this video because you get everything in so little time
I think this is the best Corridor Crew epsiode yet honestly
Tom Holland deserves the spiderman role. That's how you crush your audition
Watching the entire mcu with my wife was a thrill. Really enjoy the indepth story and side stories that all tie in together. Truly a work of art.
"art"
@@Clinkety star trek fan talking bout art lol, go watch picard
This show is Hollywood's social media. They come, they sit, they talk and they make us go wow!
I had to subscribe because of this one. Especially that ending, "if you've seen a Marvel film" good job guys. Love the content
Captain America and the Winter Soldier is one of my favorite films, and it was a pleasure to see y'all break it down!
The fact that he used an American accent for when Tom Holland was talking is hilarious 😂
He used an English accent for Tom as himself and an American accent for Tom as Spider-Man.
Any time Gui is on the show, it's a treat, as we get deep insights into how all this is done.
This is probably my favourite stunt men reacts episode yet. So many awesome insights and cool stories. Please bring James back!!!
When he talks about them playing with figurines to prepare the fight I immediately imagined them acting like Dark Helmet
"Did you see anything!!?" "NO, SIR, I DIDN'T SEE YOU PLAYING WITH YOUR DOLLS AGAIN!" 😆
Love it. Absolutely love it. Having those guys coming in and explaining what they do is why I love cinema magic.
Thanks Gui, thanks James and thanks Corridor for sharing this with us, that's amazing.
This man explains in the quickest way how character and mannerisms add to a fight, how they inform the fight. It's so good.
The behind the scenes and the story along with it about Tom holland is amazing, this episode is a masterpiece 👌🏼
