So something I didn't notice until editing this episode is that when the Osprey leaves the nest on the 2nd landing @4:24, they actually take the fish with them. Thus I'm wondering if they go and eat parts of it and then when it lands the final time, that is the same fish just much smaller.
Adults have yellow eyes, immatures have orange eyes that progressively turn yellow over about 2 years. So it looks to me the one bringing fish is an adult, the one in the nest was born this year and the parent is still feeding them. It’s typical of ospreys that they bring food to a partner or a young, let them take some food but then take the rest to eat on their own. Fishing is very energy intensive for ospreys so they typically eat part of the catch.
Great Osprey pictures. I know where some Ospreys nest but I don't have a way of being close and above them. The angle you had on the nest was truly amazing.
Great Video, Alex! NFLD with over 9800Kms of coastline, you will almost never run out of coastal shots. And if you do, Labrador has another 8000Kms+ to explore..lol.
Good to know. The only reason I was confused about this being a spouse vs kid was that this one looked old and even flew around a few times. But I don't know the timelines of when they learn to hunt?
@@AlexArmitage Juvies also have spotted wings. We have about 4 families in my neighborhood, so fun to watch, but you win the prize for photogenic Ospreys.
Great videos! One thing you need to work on though 😊 Newfoundland is not pronounced Newfoundland. It is pronounced Newfunland. And it is a fun place! Listen to how the locals say it!

I just recently moved to Georgia from Florida, but while I was there, osprey and other birds were my favorite subjects, especially by the water.
Wonderful video, adventure and shots!

great info! I think it's that the young one would venture off and fly around pretty casually, so I didn't know how old they were
Nature photography. Landscape photography. All good. Kinda like it's a floor wax and a desert topping.
It was quite the day :) or couple of days rather

That's how I felt Jeff! Thank you

Welcome to the dark side, Alex. Great footage of those Osprey.
Thanks Kevin!
If I am recalling correctly, the female has a ‘necklace’ the brownish feathers around the front part of the neck.
