God I’m digging these 15” K’s!!!! The SWEET series is awesome!!!! The swish is so satisfying!!!!!!! I can’t wait to get my A Custom Ping ride. I wish I could get it in a 24” with a huge bell. I’d pay a grand for that!
Kevin Osborn Yeah I agree with you. Definitely didn’t showcase them as they could of been. Still these cymbals sound great and it was nice to see the versatility they have.
pablo vera Sabian will never die. They’re every bit as good as Zildjian cymbals. Pretty much same company.....different factory and over the border. And in the middle of a family feud.
Those examples of how we can incorporate those cymbals into our particular style are great... I think those cymbals were an excelent choice for every style, you always say that all of the Sweetwater products are very capable but this time I agree. Great Video!!!
I think I still like the sound of regular K's or K custom a lot better than these from what I hear from this video. Still cool tho for sure! A Custom is still my favorite 🤘🏻🇺🇸
Excellent demonstration. I just wish the overhead was mixed higher with the tracks. It's seems to be fashionable to bury cymbals way down in the mix these days. Can't say I like it.
Holy crap I just fell in love with these cymbals. I've always really dug A Customs but these are way more versatile and they still cut through the mix. Really impressed. Nick is also my favorite review guy because he really gets into the details.
The K Sweets sound amazing. And you're absolutely right. Bigger cymbals don't equate to louder. Your comment reminds me of a guitar player I used to jam with. I used to use 14" hi-hats. One day I took two 17" crashes and made them into hi-hats. When I told the guitarist what I did he scoffed and said "Oh great. Now you can be even louder." I laughed and said; "No, they're actually quieter and much warmer too." And that's what I was looking for. The warmth. The quieter part was nice too because that added a new dimension to my playing for softer songs because I'm just a naturally louder player. It's all about the science. On bigger cymbals sound waves have a longer path to travel, which in turn lowers the pitch and warms the sound. Again, great video, and awesome new product.
Might have to save a little bit to buy that crash next to the floor Tom, it cuts through so nicely. I did just get K Custom Dark hats a few weeks ago in 14” but might have to make another impulse buy soon. Haha
I would consider adding these to my Paiste 2002 cymbals, could produce a nice mix. Both have a nice smooth crash sound & sustain with balance. And listening to Nick play all those styles, always amazing!
Great review but most of us can only dream of spending a fortune on cymbals! I mean I am not in a state to spend $1800 on a cymbal pack!! Still though, I really appreciate this video! Nice to hear them virtually rather than in person
Love cymbals that work for all genres!! I've got a 22" medium Ufip Class that isn't a jack of all trades but master of none!! For be-bop it sounds perfect!! Pop, funk perfect!! Rock perfect!! The only genre not really suited is metal, which I hate anyway!! Same goes for my Ufip hats and crashes!! Now cymbals are getting bigger and thinner, they seem to lend themselves to more styles!!
I just bought a 23” sweet ride and it’s one of the best sounding cymbals I’ve ever played. But just being curious, is it normal that these cymbals come with pits or a few hammering without latting, resulting a dark spot on the surface?
Michel Pitre it is normal. Most K come with these “imperfections” which are not exactly that. Those are because of the hand hammering process, and those peaks cannot be lathered
Miguel Yudelevich Yeah several of my K crashes have those deeper hammer marks that stay raw. First the cymbals are hammered then they’re lathed. My K Cluster Crash has 15 to 20. I think it adds a nice character. You see a lot more of the marks on the Constantinoples. Another cool unique marking you’ll see is on the K Custom Hybrids or other non lathed buffed cymbals like The old Z line are pockets that look to be a void in the metal which actually isn’t a good thing but the buffing wheel doesn’t hit the bottom of the pocket and it remains raw. I have an 11” K Custom Hybrid Splash that I bought used that has a spot on the bell that has one crater that’s black that you can see through. Being in the bell it will never crack. Hopefully.
Miguel Yudelevich Zildjian doesn’t hand hammer anymore. It’s all by pneumatic presses. Most companies don’t really anymore besides select sabian and paiste
Miguel Yudelevich I just got a 22” K Dark Medium Ride with 40 to 50 of the unlathed spots and it’s beautiful. Follow Paul Francis (cymbalSmith)on Instagram and you will get a nice insight to cymbal making. He’s in the process of answering one of my questions that he didn’t have an answer to yet. Every company that makes high quality products should have a “man in the trenches” if they want their customers to feel better about the company they support.
Half the projection, volume and tone of 1980s ones. I’m not just on a nostalgia trip, I have about 10 1980s post EAK K series and they blow anything Zildjian are making now out of the window as the staff at my local drum shop experienced when I took them in to let them hear what Ks are supposed to sound like. I actually bought some new Ks but got rid of them pretty much immediately. It’s a shame that the accountants at Zildjian have taken over and the cymbals are not actually made by people with ears anymore. I’d say the ones in this demo sound ok but they don’t sound special like the 80s block letter ones did.
I'm sure no one isn't going to get this far down in comments, BUT: Video sound is bad. Listen carefully. When they change from style to style of type to type. I am now MORE CONFUSED than EVER. You over dubbed the cymbal sound (or under dubbed) on the type of music. MIXING PROBLEM (over or under mixing). You did not let the natural sound for each type of music present itself. This video has led me to sticking with Paiste 2002's as they always have served ANY PURPOSE except death metal. Personally own K standard pack and have owned Paiste 2002 14 hh, 16 cr, 18 cr, 22 rd in the past (now own a 22" 2002 ride with my K Zildjian pack). Even the K pack I own makes me want my Pasite 2002's back again. You just answered my question. The "sweets" sound better than what I have, but the 2002's are EVEN BETTER! Thanks!
Not the _best_ example of "house" music I've ever heard but... we get the point. They're very versatile cymbals. Probably the best overall _line_ of cymbals Zildjian has released in 30+ years. The K "Cluster" crashes are also really awesome, if perhaps a bit less versatile. Maybe it has something to do with the un-lathed bells. Who knows.
This isn’t really a review .. every review says that each product available at Sweetwater is fantastic. This doesn’t help when choosing between Paiste & Sabian… or trying to choose just which Zildjian K pack to buy. An honest review would also reveal the shortcomings & compare with other products
I just received my 5 pack last week. The hats are bit darker then my A Customs, but has a nice crisp bite and wash. The 19" is very loud, the 17" is beautiful, but I am partial to 17" crashes. The ride is perfect for any style of music, it has a great bell and a defining ping while riding, with the perfect little wash and overtone. This package will work for gospel, any form of rock, thrash, death or 80's metal. I would highly recommend the Sweet 16" & 18" and/or 17" & 18" K Fast crashes to compliment the package. Nick gives you what you need with diligence.
I think this is the most versatile and musical line of cymbals ever made. I already have the 15" hi hat and i'm looking forward to buying the 21" ride as well. Awesome cymbals.
@@mendozazairyljohn1896 They sound amazing. I eventually got the 21" ride after the hi hat and still confirm everything i said. They are versatile and have a great sound. Totally recommend.
I've never bought a full cymbal kit before but I'm putting money aside for these. Won't be much longer. Thiesesound like the last cymbals I'll ever need. Great product and Nick is the man.
My wife and I just got back from a road trip to Sweetwater from Nevada. I bought a Zildjian sweet cymbal pack while there. I tried 'em while there, but now that I'm home and put them up on my kit.... my goodness these sweet K cymbals sound absolutely beautiful!
Just want to ask if you guy's ever made a review of K Custom hybrid cymbal pack 1250 which was released October 8, 2016 I think. Thanks & God bless everyone! P.S. Do you have a review of Worship pack by Zildjian? Thanks.
Dude! I Dig your playing every time I find you on RUclips showing us something. You’re So great on the Drums!!!! Bam!!!! Thanks... and I bought em... K Sweets are just so do bop te be bop te cha! N stuff... 😳🤙🏼✨
I Love how musical K cymbals are. I actually think I prefer the K Dark line of crashes, but this ride is fantastic (in video). Prior to the Sweet line coming out... I found what I believe is the most versatile ride EVER. If you can find one... The 20" Sabian AA El Sabor Ride is an absolute masterpiece. I play metal, hard rock and classic rock. When I need a thin musical wash or large crash.... it's perfect. When I need a loud, cutting bell... the raw bell on it is the best I've ever heard. I actually think that the alloy composition, lathing choices and hammering techniques of the Sweet and the El Sabor are VERY similar. However... #1... you can get an El Sabor (if you look around) for half the cost, and in my personal opinion... the raw bell on the El Sabor provides a more pronounced sound. It's truly an amazing ride.
Imagine if Nick ad decided to choose another carreer , would have been such a waste of talent, man can play anything, drum, guitar, bass, sing. Respect.
Love these cymbals! All but the hats. Those huge hats sound like cheap beginner cymbals that are too thick. And that chick sound is certainly not "musical"!
Some of the nicest Zildjians i`ve heard from you-tube demos. This range seems to have a character of their own. Present and bright bit like a Paiste but with Zildjian tone. 'Sweet'

Love Nick's vids. Was thinking about going with K Mastersounds in 14", think I'm gonna grab the 15" Sweet hats.
I LOVE the sweet crashes. They're what brought me back to Zildjian. I got the 17 & 19 crashes, 21 ride, and 15 Avedis hats.

Nick is great. Always fun to have a listen to him play those drums and cymbals.
👍
A much better demo than the Avedis Zildjian Company video and their Hair-Band-Slammer. These are musical instruments not shop tools!
Nick - love your mechanics and stick control.
Guess Underoath isn’t your type of band, but you’re right this is a much better demo.
I love Underoath and DtGL, but that demo was asking for criticism. Not the right person to premiere the series.
Kevin Osborn Yeah I agree with you. Definitely didn’t showcase them as they could of been. Still these cymbals sound great and it was nice to see the versatility they have.

I just love Nick. I learn more from him selling me drums than any other clinic drummer.
