Hi Nick, that's an old Type One meter box, they were put in when people had to pre load their Gas meter with coins to get Gas, 1960's/70's It should have been replaced when the meter was changed. I personally replaced hundreds during the 1990's as I am sure many other people did. . . Don't know why it hasn't been done, but it needs to be. . . 🤔
Nothing wrong with it as pipes are not running inside the cavity, also not the responsibility of the suppliers so meter fitter won't change it, also not responsibility of grid so Cadent wont do it, it's property owners responsibility to get it changed if they want to but it doesn't need to be. That's why it's not been done.
Hi Nick - just a tip. I'm an industrial controls electrical engineer in a car factory stamping plant. So with my heavy engineering background I prefer to hammer the floorboard nails down out of the way with a pin punch as joiners from the old days never nailed anywhere near the centre of the joist. Then find the centre of the joist and run a pencil line down to cut to. This makes it easier lifting the boards and less chance of splitting the board - and you'll always have enough board to screw down at the join afterwards. 😃
Yeah that happens loads, I've seen it recently when they've tried to recess a meter into a cavity wall that was too thin and then had to pay for the re decoration in the living room and the airbnb for the family to stay in. Not quite as often now though.
My son introduced me to your channel when he was looking at buying his pack out gear for his van. Ive been hooked ever since, you’re a top bloke - love the channel. Keep on with it mate and f*ck the negative comments. Love you byeeeee 😂
Love the videos, keep it up. What i would say when using the wall chaser. Im sure that you should pull it not push it. It will depend on the rotation of blades on the metabo, but looking at the long trigger handle, i would suggest its been designed to be pulled. Channeling out in the correct direction will help to minimise the risk of it jumping etc.
There's plenty wrong with that gas box, enough for it to be considered "at risk" under gas safe regs, and the customer would be advised to leave the gas off until it was fixed. The danger being that a gas leak has potential to seep into the wall cavity without the occupant being aware until it went bang. Any trashed recessed gas box is at risk, though regs do change from time to time.
It's not been trashed, it's a Type 1 box. . For coin fed meters. . Yes it should have been changed when the meter was. . It is not non compliant as the regs don't cover it. . Sad but true. . Transco, fitted them. . As National Grid when we came across them we took them out. . If a third party supplied and fitted the meter. . Cost cutting they didn't take them out
Nope not "at risk" not even worth a verbal mention pipes not in cavity so the danger you mention isn't there you can see it's not open to the cavity. Why do people see something out the ordinary n sh** themselves so much 🤦♂️.
Hi all Got an interesting one for tomorrow. TT system earth rod 4 inches from main cable. Gas board have replaced gas pipe to the meter 10 inches away . Now the earth rod is very warm and the floor in the cupboard and hall is warm .
You're right, you do have patients for teaching people. There are so many people who are looking for a placement to be guided by a professional; like yourself. It seems a shame to deprive them of your wisdom. Ans you do feel much more mentally positive when you work with someone. It's just a thought.
Use galvanised couplers if you want a nice uniform gap, you can build a whole set on the bench before putting them in the wall. Wish I'd known about that before putting six on the wall at my mate's house only for the mud-slingers to knock them all to hell.
It’s really great, you giving ash some work experience , I work for 5 months for work experience for free as I wanted to be Sparky, but just couldn’t get apprenticeship without more knowledge in paid off , Great Teacher Nick ⚡️👊
200 square meters commercial property, no wires, the basement has no ceilings, all wood joists, hollow plasterboards everywhere upstairs, 4 power sockets for coffee machine and similar, nothing downstairs, drop ceiling upstairs, has like 50 lights, a main switchboard for all lights in the property, like 40 sockets to be installed, what's the rewire cost, go If you think it's more than £5,000 you're correct, and the customer I had decided even 5k is too much and they'll find someone cheaper.
Oh man you would hate running cables in most Australian homes. It's a nightmare cutting a hole in the plasterboard and the running the cable down the wall after drilling a hole in the top plate. Takes the best part of 3 or 4 minutes. 🤭
You shouldnt be using the wiring zone of the light switch to run other circuits in such as the loft power cables in case the light switch is moved in the future
In the end the arseholes taught you what not to do. You have patience in teaching and your easy to understand and relate to, and your teaching online too…👌
Surprised you don’t have safety glasses on especially while using power tools, I know someone that regrets not doing this, but it is lucky he has a spare eyeball

That made pulling five 10 mm2 singles through 18.5 m of 40 mm flexible with something like nine 90-degree bends in it almost seem like fun (the apprentice and me hung onto the draw line with our combined body weights at the meter cabinet downstairs while the journeyman fed the wires upstairs and barked "Faster! When I put in two metal back boxes in I use a 20mm steel coupler with brass bushes. I find it gives the right spacing

I like the toothed spade bits for soft bricks. Much better at removing material instead of disintegrating the brick.

This is your best video Nick... want to see more videos where you actually show how it's done using the tools...
The meter housings are not giving any thermal benefit. Possibly giving 1-2 points deficiency on the Energy Performance Certification (EPC)
Would you consider outsourcing the chasing to chasing crew? That's very popular in ROI as the sparks can be off doing other more profitable work.

why not just place chaser on wall and pull down , why make life hard and turn the chaser upside down
what's the best way to run cable to a garage, which needs to run along a fence? I assume some kind of protective trunking attached to fence?
Run SWA?
Fences are non permanent, as such electrical regs prohibit their use for cable support.
