I was lied to as a kid and as a result I have trust issues. That’s the short version it’s far more complicated.
I strongly advise you tell her; lying will cause issues later on in life.
I mean this nicest possible way - The world won’t pander to her sensitivity; she needs to overcome it.
Totally agree, I would want to know the truth, if I found out later I was lied to, I feel it would cause further issues for longer - if the other kids know, then you must tell her before they let slip too..
I can relate also, being lied to or gaslit by the very people you're innately meant to trust (parents) leads to issues way down the line
I think you should break the bad news about the cat, otherwise you'll have to watch your daughter waiting for it to come home, wondering where it is, leaving out food for it etc etc. I think that would be harder to watch. She'll also be wondering what happened to it for years.
had the same thought also
Cat - I’m autistic and my daughter is AuDHD, she said she would want to know the truth. Last time (the first time), would have started to build her resilience, so trust that she will be good, you may still get random mentions of dead cat, but at least she won’t be anxious and checking every cat she sees to see if it’s hers
9:38 just use a cheap remote socket.. they usually come in a kit of three..plug into wall, plug in the vac.. sorted! 🤷🏼
i used to have them, now got smart plugs. never thought of using the old one on vacume :)
amp rating, would emagin shop van, the 13amp load, and trusting made china by the lowest bidder, only rated almost 13 amp, but more like 5 or 10 amps if lucky
DAMN! 🤦😭
Nick I have autism and I am over sensitive to things so I know how your daughter is. I am happy to come over to you and talk on camera about my issues
I hope he takes you up on that, as a fellow (slightly) autistic electrician it would be interesting
@@TheChipmunk2008 same here.
Next upgrade - Get a Wi-Fi socket adaptor and an Alexa, have your phone as a wireless access point so you can then say "Alexa, suck me" to start the vacuum, so it's hands-free!
Re the cat, I would want to know the truth, if I found out later I was lied to, I feel it would cause further issues for longer - if the other kids know, then you must tell her before they let slip too..
I put a BT 240v 20a with two remotes on my Henry, bonded it to the side casing and just connected it in-line. Has worked for the past 3 years, no issues.
We use Energenie plugs for our vacuums. You can get three plugs and a remote for £30 eBay
I use energenie and broke several as they are easy to overload, I added a contactor driven by the energenie to switch the heavier loads, bonus is you get a really satisfying clunk when it switches! The energenies are repairable, just need to get new relays installed.
Blast the filters with an air compressor, thats all I do when repairing vacs
Great to see you finding the man you are, drugs or no drugs. Love the videos. Hopfully you told your daughter. Life is full of change, most of it you can't control. So you have to experience how to run with it to get on with life. Hard, but life is. Enjoy as much of it as you can get, I am.
Nick I don’t know if your garden is suitable but maybe look into either having a catio, or protectapet. Both options allow cats to enjoy a bit of fresh air but can’t go further than your back garden 👍
I know I’m late to the party but agree with the comments I’ve read - tell your daughter the truth, grieving is normal and better that, than the not knowing if the cat “ran away “. We just lost our dog (our kids might be a bit older) but our 12 year old girl really struggled - worse at bedtime but it’s a personal process we all have to navigate.
I did the same with my vacuum Nick!
I do a lot of woodwork using router and tracksaw etc.
i did it with a tiny remote 240v relay from amazon that i dropped in the casing with a switch to bypass it if needed. But tbh, i just use the remote 90%of the time! 🤣
Nice job on the vac ... Festool do something very similar.
That's a bloody brilliant idea. Sometimes the simple ones are the best. And cheaper than getting one of those dust extractors/vacuums that connect to your tool to fire up automatically!
I have an extension cable with four outlets all controlled by a single remote, think a friend sent it me but its useful to turn one of four outlets on or off. It also has an option to turn all on or off at the same time, has it over ten years & found it very useful.
For the remote vacuum switch you should probably have a contactor in the box capable of switching higher loads. Use the kinetic receiver to switch the coil for the contactor. You'll probably need a bigger box though
Agree with this. Using a contactor switched with a relay is much safer and can be used with higher loads. The under rated relay might overheat and melt rather than blow a fuse. Built one to control a 3kW immersion remotely.
Vac startup load could be 3 X running load.
(As is the rule of thumb for all ac motors)
The way that one starts sounds like it has a ramp-up circuit in it - The ramp-up circuit in one of line failed so I removed it, and you can really tell the difference!
With Metabo filters: take a spoon (table, tea, doesn't matter), use the back of the spoon, and pull it along the front of the pleats like you are strumming guitar strings with a plectrum. It will change your life.
IKEA's new smart sockets are rated for 13A and come with a paired remote. It doesn't have to have a hub. The remote doesn't have the lanyard hole, but I'm sure you could figure out a way to make one.
We read a book written especially for helping kids understand and process grief to help explain the loss of both of our cats to our 4 year old daughter - Badger's Parting Gifts by Susan Varley.
Granted its more intented for the loss of older family members/friends, but we found a lot of it was still relevent for family pets.
She has some sensitive traits, and it was a bit mixed at first in how much she was understanding and processing it. For our second cat she was around 4.5, and seemed to process it better and occassionally she'll surprise us with her maturity on it - she'll randomly ask me to see pictures of them on my phone, and has asked if we can put some pictures up on the wall so she doesn't forgot them.
Some of the questions and conversations were tough, but we'd use the same approach again.
Nice idea but If i was the type of person to bother doing the same :-) I would just rewire/extend the switch so it's on the end of the hose.
Check out the Shelly smart switches, they have higher ratings and overload protection, they also even make DIN mount version
Love it when an idea becomes a bodge, then becomes a hack !! Awesome work.
The only issue with your hoover mod is you can buy remote plugs for cheap ready done. And rated to 13A
Metabo already make a wireless control unit called Cordless Control. It’s not available for the UK as of yet but you can use an adaptor and it works with any dust extractor. It has Bluetooth control, like a Festool, but if you’re using a cordless tool it senses the vibration and auto starts the vac. Have a look, I’ve not used it but I’m sure it’s great.
Festool have that function on their hoovers it’s a very good function, the remote is strapped to the end of the hose. Milwaukee make a remote switch too.
Like it! Relay might not last too long switching a hoover on and off tho.
good point, but eh, easily replaceable and if it fails under a year, it;s free
This is a thing that already exists, I use one for my electric blanket in the winter :D
Quinetic part QUA313
Enerj WS1080
I like the idea. I think a slightly better idea would be to have used a contactor and then kinetic switch to operate it. No issues of overloading
Nick… Another super tidy job. You are so well organised… makes life so much easier.
Sorry matey but them dead foots are already available on Temu! 😂lol
Good luck to the Family member getting Chemotherapy Nick Great video
Best thing for the filter is a blast with compressed air, ask the garage next door👍
Surely you can fit a 15A realy in the box then you won't kill the kinetic switch relay fuse, maybe Big Clive Can Design it for you!
Loving the move to dedicated sockets, even though there's T&E sticking out of a plug top 😂😂
Made a similar thing for some outdoor party lights. But prefer that my Festool extractor has bluetooth built in, and comes with a little remote at the end of the hose!
To 'hoover' is an accepted verb now according to the main dictionaries, 'to use a vacuum cleaner (= a machine that sucks up dust and dirt) to clean floors and other surfaces!'
Nice bit of "necessity is the mother of invention", though did you think to try a 50mm metalclad backbox and socket as that with the 10A Ener-J WS1017 at 27mm height would have worked a treat I reckon, putting a stuffing gland on it to secure the cable? Quinetic do all the same but slightly taller at 31mm for their 16A, should you think of something more power hungry you want to turn on remotely. 😜
Nick, you can already buy remote control socket adaptors for super cheap that are designed to switch a large load. I use one myself for the exact same purpose.
Nice one Nick this is how James Dyson started out in his workshop inventing his dastardly sucking machines so maybe we should all call you Nick Dyson from now on 😄
Try a cyclone box on top of the vac....ive done it 9" grinder . Cutting concrete block , new door position . Filter just about spotless ...physics
Quinetic have 6A capable receivers so that's a route if the current setup fails
crazy idea. take apart the top of the vacuum and fit the remote relay inside the vacuum. this way you dont need deadfoot as you have a built in deadfoot enabled vacuum.
Should get the roller shutter door Controller from quinetic think it gives you more amps
Get it free with a Dewalt vacuum 😂
Quinetic do a 16amp kinetic switch receiver if you need a higher rated unit,
Nice one Nick. Sorry about the cat. Best bit was you getting a hammer to knock in the rawl plugs rather than a power tool... Tablets must be powerful...!
Why not but the receiver in the vacuum less thing to carry after a job, plus your less likely to leave it behind on a job
Quinetic 13amp socket receiver with key fob will do the job.
Sorry to hear of the person going through Chemo - been there, and it sucks (especially at the same time as radiotherapy) but if it works, it's 100% worth it. As for the cat, it's important for your daughter to grieve properly - it will ultimately be better for her than ignoring death and illness etc. My daughter similar with her pets and still randomly cries about past pets. Finally, like Deadfoot. I was thinking you could do it with Shelley, but I think the energenie works better in for this use case
My daughters nearly 6 and we think she has a little anxiety, sounds the same with certain things. We would probably tell her a little later down the line possible but judge that day. Not easy when the anxiety kicks in at that age 👍
Our son is a bit like your daughter and we chose to show the truth and it was hard for the first couple events but now he deals with it really well.
Clever idea with the vacuum switch
RF solutions make these off the shelf
Them quinetic remote switches are damm good. Long range too. I had a customer with a 2 gang bg external switch & she wanted a remote controll for 2 sets of garden lights, both receivers fitted in the bg external switch 👍
Apple Watch, they’ll release a new version in a couple of months so worth waiting or returning if you’ve just bought it
I just run a flex cable along the hose and put a switch at the end of it.
Festool has bluetooth built in you just buy a switch you can wear like a watch
15:19 buy the same colour cat
We have lost fish that my son was very attached to and we have lost several close family members in the last 2 years including both my parents. We buried the fish and took my young son to all the funerals despite other friends and family saying that they didn't think we should. Yes, he has had to deal with the loss, but having the chance to say goodbye is always better. I say this as a 4-year-old boy and a 40-year-old father. hiding the bad stuff from your children does more harm than good in the long run.
Nick love the hoover switch 😂
You could try one of these for the vacuum. METABO UNIVERSAL STOP/START WIRELESS VACUUM CONTROL
Deffo would of fit that in a 35mm single back box with the socket on the front
100% that vacuum switch will fuse closed one day
Could go down the smart home route with the hoover (sorry vacuum) could use a Switchbot or other brand bot which you would place on the hoover and then use an app on your smart watch or phone to turn on or off the hoover eliminating the need for the dead foot and you never have to worry about forgetting it
My dewalt vac has a remote that comes with it.
Just seen milwaukee do something like this. MILWAUKEE RCS 240V REMOTE CONTROL SOCKET & CONTROLLER KIT
The ener j receiver is identical to the one you have, annoys me how they are not compatable 😅
In my experience the bags don't stop the Metabo filters clogging.
Festool is all I need to say!
What were the drill bits you were using for the sockets?
14:09 some hoovers have a auto function don’t they?
I would get the switch to a contactor so it can definitely handle to current stick instead all in a 2 din enclosure
Get yourself a milwaukee hover with bt remote
BTW I found Ener-J and the unbranded Kinetic stuff sold by Toolstation IS compatible. But neither of them work with Quinetic...!
Festool do it already for their dust extractor mate! Sorry 😢😢
Yeah I think the word invented is perhaps a bit strong 😂😂😂
Would be interesting to know what you charge for these smaller jobs and to see if it’s worth taking these types of jobs on.
Good invention
Way to over engineer it, cheap remote socket and it would work great or get a festool extractor and you can get a Bluetooth remote or plug a 230v tool into the front and it turns on when you pull the trigger on the tool
Sorry to say, but this is already available from the vacuum manufacturer under many different brands Metabo and Starmix are a few of them.
Why are you building your own wireless controller for the vacuum when Milwaukee sponsor the channel and make their own Bluetooth one?! 🤔🤣
Because he can 😅
Festool have already done this with there Bluetooth button
attach the remote to the end of the hoover wand
7a when the filters are clogged?
What's happened to the old podcasts on the blueetti
Boss job, Genius. On one of your previous videos when you were using your m12 milwaukee with the long extension drilling out sockets, You use a red round thingy with a drill bit..who makes it? Sorry I know I've confused myself
Nick just invented an apprentice, isn't that what they are for?
Bit complicated why not simply use one of those remote control “plugin sockets” 13a rated no wiring required and probably much cheaper
Maybe it's me or maybe it's the new medication you're trying out but I feel like you seem more focused and things seem a bit more structured in your video. Think I might get tested for ADHD as I have similar issues doing admin etc vs being on the tools.
That bit with no commentary in the garage doing the sockets and the labelling was nice and probably made it easier to edit into a YT short clip. 2 birds, 1 stone. Work smarter not harder eh.
Cat situation sounds horrible but whatever you and your Mrs decide will be the right decision.
Best of luck to your family member going through the chemo 💪🏼
Don't the hover go on and off when you operate the chaser
Milwaukee do a pass though socket with a remote, not sure what the rating is though……
Dewalt already do a Bluetooth switch for their hoover
Great video
That would be great for my pond vac
i made a similar box for my compressor to turn it on and off remotely
Can the contacts switch that in rush load?
google remote socket there are Tuns lol
Why not use a current operated relay so that whenever you switch your wall chaser on your vac turns on and whenever you turn it off the back turns off.
The vacuum already has this built in, so no need.
@@AndrewStrydomBRP I guess that this is for just vacuuming (not for dust collection). I had some instances where this option could be handy. Mostly on a ladder
@@crapiecorn Those metabo (rebranded starmix) ones are M class (or H class) Dust Extractors. I use my remote one for dust extraction for cordless tools, I imagine nick will do the same.
@@AndrewStrydomBRP Yes, I mean the application of just vacuuming with it. But like you mentioned I have the same issue with cordless tools (sander and multitool mostly). With all the smart devices on the market now a days you would think that someone already invented a bluetooth linked powertool/vacuum combination.
@@crapiecorn this does already exist, makita makes the Bluetooth version, starmix (which metabo rebrands) makes a vibration operated remote switch that works with any tool, dewalt has their remote version, so does Milwaukee etc etc
