    As a former optician I'm well aware of the complications caused by type 1 diabetes can do in effecting eyesight. I can tell that you are also quite aware of it as well. You apparently still have perfect vision which is really remarkable considering how long you have had T1D. I'm sure you get yearly eye exams and you have to feel very pleased when the doctor finishes his or her exam and tells you that your eyes are healthy and your your eyesight is just fine.
    I discovered I had type 2 diabetes when i was 57 years old, I'm now 75, I consider myself the lucky one. I had no idea I was dealing with diabetes even though I had all the symptoms when I couldn't seem to drink enough water and orange juice and was slowly getting weaker and weaker. But I had just had blood work done which I thought in part was checking for diabetes, it wasn't. When i finally called 9-1-1 I literally had to crawl to the front door to unlock it ahead of the ambulance. When they loaded me in and checked my level they were so shocked they actually did it 3 times because I was at 953 and somehow still totally awake. At the hospital i was told that I had the highest number they had ever seen. When I do something I do it right apparently. Surprisingly they got it down and i was sent home about 3 days later. At first I was on insulin then medication and finally on "Pioglitazone" (15MG) Just one pill a day. I'm still taking the same medication today. Over the next years I had more and more difficulty walking due to bone on bone arthritis. I was always into playing sports and by that time and really gotten into golf. I even had a "hole-in-one" which was 178 yards and 3 witnesses. So not being able to play golf for nearly 4 years was killing me. My cardiologist had noticed that I was slowly gaining weight of about 10 pounds a year. Being a very smart doctor, he waved a carrot in front of be by suggesting that if I were get gastric bypass I could loose up to 100 pounds which would take the weight off of my legs and maybe allow me top be back playing golf again. I told him then and there with any thought to get me signed up. He did and 6 months later I had my surgery. I didn't loose 100 pounds I lost 134 pounds which was back in 2017 and even going through the pandemic when many people turned to eating and snacking i actually lost another ten pounds. I have been back playing golf since 2017.But age has still caught up with me and the arthritis has only gotten worse. So after golf season ended last October I made plans to get one knee at a time replaced. I had my left knee done on March 30th and was back playing golf 5 weeks after my surgery. My physical therapist said I was an over achiever. In 2018 I had cataract surgery two weeks apart. I have 20/15 vision and don't even need readers. I do all of my won yardwork as well playing golf.
    I can only wish you as much luck as i have had. Maybe even better. Take good care of those eyes, which I know you are.

    Hi Michelle ! I really like your channel , I was watching some of your older vlogs before I subscribed and came across this one tonight, I loved the display at your endocrinologist/diabetes care clinic all of that "old stuff" from the 70's and 80's. I used and recognized ALOT of the stuff in there, I have been T1D for a little over 40 years. Definitely a blast from the past, we have come a long way from urine testing for sugar and one shot of Lente (Beef&pork Insulin) a day ......

    So, I am Type 1 diabetic as well and I just started watching your vlogs! I love this vlog in particular because I just went to my Diabetic Dr. today and they adjusted some of my stuff as well! The main thing I have to work on is getting my A1C down as well as getting better at correctly counting carbs. Thank you for sharing! Your vlogs are so cool and inspiring! You make having T1D a lot easier.

    Hi from Calgary, I know how that feeling is about the eye appointment.... I went to one in September, they told me I needed both injections and lasers. My worst nightmare came true.

    My son's G4 transmitter battery died after just over a year of use, last week....wow, we have got used to having the benefits of it...now (July 2019) they no longer make the G4 range - thankfully our diabetes nurse has been able to order the new G6 system, can't wait to stop those endless finger-pricks! Also did you know that with G6 it's OK to take paracetamol (?acetenophen) for pain, but not with G4?

    I don't think I'll try Fiasp, seems like a lot of diabetics are having skin and other issues. Glad to hear your eyes are ok, of all the diabetic procedures (injections, giving blood etc.) eye drops are my absolute worst!

    • @MichelleLord
      @MichelleLord  6 лет назад +2

      I've heard great things from people who use Fiasp for multiple daily injections, but I've also read about skin issues for pump users. I loved it at first because it helped my post-meal spikes... but it's not worth the big bumps under my skin. And yes, those eye drops are no fun at all!

    Oh wow they have lente insulin! I used that when I was first diagnosed as a little boy. Best insulin I've ever used I can't believe they discounted lente and ultra lente! These insulin makers had a great product but phased it out to make more profit with newer pricer insulins. Is your floater due to diabetes? I have crazy myopia and astigmatism but apparently no eye diabetic complications as of 2 weeks ago. I ask my doctor diabetes caused? He practically said no your eyes just suck regardless of diabetes (genetic) LOL This is like my worst fear any time I go see an ophthalmologist I am so scared. He even said yep if you can see stuff in your eyes more than likely complications are widespread and much like the eye other tissues are already damaged. The medical literature agrees people with NPDR get diabetic nephropathy within 6 months of initial diagnosis! At least for now I can relax until next time :/

    NOOOooooo! I just got the g5. I'm curious as to why you are still using the g4?

    • @MichelleLord
      @MichelleLord  6 лет назад

      VoiceManJake Because my insurance won't cover any of it, and the G4 is way cheaper :)

    • @JahgoobyKing
      @JahgoobyKing 6 лет назад

      ooohhh. How does the G4 compare?

    • @MichelleLord
      @MichelleLord  6 лет назад

      I think the G5 is more accurate, and it transfers your BGs to your phone. But the G4 is good enough for me!

    Michelle your pupils look huge. Will the floater go away? Your mom seems really sweet sorry I don't know her name. But she reminds me of my mom I drag all over the place when I have my appointments. she's a good sport and encouraging I hope your floater goes away. But with a close up man your pupils looked huge. I had my eyes dialated maybe 2times it felt weird how did yours feel did it hurt. Hope you have a great school week ahead

    • @MichelleLord
      @MichelleLord  6 лет назад

      Haha yes my pupils were massive! The floater apparently will not go away, but eventually settle to the bottom of my eye and become less noticeable. Yes, my poor mom gets to come to all my appointments, even though I'm 27 lol. I found that the drops stung a bit when they were first put in, but otherwise it didn't hurt...just felt weird :P!!

    My eyes are the reason I found out I had diabetes. Blurry vision was so bad I couldn't see shit. And now it's the only reason I wake up everyday knowing I have diabetes because my vision is ALWAYS blurry. 20 20 vision btw..:/
