Absolutely brilliant. The very first time I have watched a teacher who I can understand and who makes full sense of the waterclour medium. Such a change not to have to switch off half way through because one cant hear or understand what the 'so called' teacher is saying. Thank you, Thank you.
Thank you for this great tutorial. You always explain things so well. One of the best tutors around. I have had Inktense pencils for ages and didn’t know how to use them properly. I am now more confident in trying them out.
These are my sketch journal pencils. I can do a down and dirty sketch and finish with my brushes and water at home if necessary. I keep the basics blue, red, yellow, green, black and brown in my journal pouch.
Thank you so much for this!! I recently got a 72 pack of them for my birthday and I had no idea how to use them. Knew they were somewhat similar to water colours
He is isn't he, I've learnt so much so far, it's really really worth subscribing to his website because the content he has on there should be worth a lot more money than he asks for
Love the way you explained how to use these type of pencils. I am actually debating on this if it’s something easy to use. Are they similar to regular watercolor pencil? What’s the difference between the two? Will it blend well if I apply this on top of (dried) watercolor painting for the purpose of enhancing the color? Watercolor paint fades once it gets dry. Pls advise and thx
Excellent demonstration. I just found about about the Inktense, but they are sooo expensive, wow! Makes me want to keep with acrylic. What do you find is the primary advantage of these pencils over other expensive, popular ones?
I just read a post in German forum made by a Faber Castell representative: he says the Faber Castell Albrecht Dürers are permanent too, so you can't lift the color again. And on the other hand I saw an Inktense review video where somebody proved that Inktense CAN be lifted again after they're dry 😆 So I'm not sure why Derwent is putting so much emphasis on the Inktense being permanent. In my view it's their intense colors, that distinguish them.
I have been led to beleive by a Derwent rep that you can activate the blocks but if you activate the pencils it ruins the lead as it then sets!? If I find out any different when i get the blocks I will let you know!
Awesome & Brilliant!!! I LOVE drawing & have been looking for what color pencils R the best to color my drawing, thanks for sharing your talent with us! Your strawberries look so real 😍👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻😍
I have a set of 24 intense pencils, once there dry there are not permanent the colors can be reactivated. If you load your brush with a lot of water and go over the same area many times and apply heavy pressure you will reactive the color, but then again you really don't want to do that.
I have found this to be true as well. If I don't dissolve all of the pencil I initially rub onto the paper; when I try to glaze my colors turn muddy. I'm more comfortable using multiple layers and washes of dissolved color to build up the painting. Really like the blocks and use like a watercolor palette. The white is phenomenal in inktense! The painting here is beautiful just the same. These pencils are definitely adaptable to different approaches to application.
This is somewhat true. If you were not careful to activate ALL of the pigment initially, the bits that weren’t fully activated AND dried in previous layers may become activated during subsequent applications of water.
I wanted to use these for mark making and details on acrylic paintings on paper. However, they smear terribly when water, paint, fixative or medium is applied after plenty of drying time. Please give me some advice on how to make these permanent. I’ve invested $$$$ on pencils and blocks and am very disappointed in their performance.
Kayleigh Van Bussel You wouldn’t want to use these like regular pencils, because the color isn’t right until you wet it. If you want a pencil you can use either way, look at the Faber Castell Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils.
you can use these as normal pencils i have along with another pencil set but i don't think you would get what you need just from these and if they get wet at all it would activate them and then that would ruin your picture
Just ordered Inktense pencils & cant wait to try them out. Your video is perfect timing! Thank you!

Their not watercolor there is a major difference between watercolor and inktense
I love my 72 piece Inktense set but have never mastered them. This video helps a lot. Thank you.

I love using my Inktense pencils for pastel underpaintings. They’re fabulous!!
It works?
I will try it...

Wonderful demonstration! Thank you so very much.

Great breakdown on the inktense pencils. So far I've only used the blocks as watercolor without drawing with the materials. Thanks for sharing!
This is a great video that explains an unusual medium while also teaching how to choose colours!
They're so lifelike I could eat them! Many thanks for this tutorial!! Appreciate!! 🥰🥰🥰
Hi Matt! this is just fantastic. Thank you for sharing. And you are a GREAT ARTIST. 😊

Superb! Brilliant instruction and beautifully done.
Beautiful. Thanks!
Excellent!!!!!
Amazing! I feel I can touch the strawberries
I’m going to buy some for using on fabric !
Wonderful lesson! Thank you so much.... can’t wait to get drawing with my inktense pencils.
Fantastic tutorial! 👍👍

Such a awesome work
Very useful and informative. Thank you for sharing your wonderful skills.

Thank you for that wonderful tutorial. Do the colours fade in the dark? I read an article of an artist who claimed that
Is there a preferred pencil sharpener to use for these pencils

what happens to the tip of the pencil when you dump it into water? do you have to sharp it again, or can you continue to draw?

nice drawing, just wondering if you can use these pencils as an underpainting and use regular pencils on top for the finished drawing.
I think that would look lovely.
You def can!
Thanks for the tippy wippies, im going to check the website out
If you don't want a highly textured paper (bumpy), instead of cold press watercolor paper you could try using, 100% cotton, hot press paper.
I love hot press water colour paper for the ink intense pencils

What is the paper you are using, gsm wise and cotton content %? Does your washes show up on the other side?
Love the art and thanks for the tutorials!
Is the water on the brush just damp or more runny so to speak?
I've got Derwent intense 12
What exact brush are you using please?
Instead of water try using rubbing alcohol to blend the colors
what type of paper are you using, brush size and type please
So if you had to list the medium/media you used to create this piece, how would you phrase that?
That's was absolutely wonderful! I only have a set of 12 inktense and I love florals, could I achieve something with just the 12?
Cathie Huxtable you definitely can!! I’ve seen some great art made by just using a 12 pencil set
I work with 6 in my journal. I don’t have room for 12. I have the 12 when I take my backpack.

Hello, nice picture. it was interesting to watch as you paint.
What graphite pencil are you using that will not be affected by the Inktense
Great video, helped me out a lot 👍
Could you use these as normal pencils? So without the water?

They don't feel like ordinary pencils either as they are quite waxy feeling but different to normal waxy coloured pencils!
very nice
Fantastic! A gold star for you! 😁 I didnt like the blocks, Im concidering the pencils.
Does the kit include brushes also?
No, The brushes I am using are Grumbacher Goldenedge nylon brushes
wow
👌🖒👏🔝
I also have first put water on paper and then draw! is a different way.
Tripophobia kicking in
OMG it's the same as mine
But I have 72
uhmmm I still don't like how you skip the best parts of the drawing process.
You can find it all in his course.
What colours did you use for the strawberry?
