This was a fabulous post! I learned quite a bit and am looking forward to giving the wonderful techniques a try. Thank you so much for creating this for us all!!
Thanks soooo much for this tutorial. You've been such an inspiration since I started colouring in 2019, and I'm still learning tricks and ideas everytime I watch your videos. 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Outstanding video, Erica, thank you! I would love to see another with the whole page. I'm just starting to really use my Inktense pencils and all of your tips and tricks will be so useful! Happy Coloring!🎨
I especially enjoyed the tutorial in the first book. I have it and all of the Romantic Country books. This is so encouraging to me. Thanks so much for sharing this video!
Great video and tips for people who are already ok with their inktense ! I think we learn intuitively when we use a medium often , like when you were doing that dabbing on the right hand side of the wall in fur balls you were wiping off colour as you blended up to help fade it out . Thanks so so much for sharing your process ❤
So true! That’s one of the reasons I wanted to do another how I color with Inktense. I feel like I had a few new things to share for sure. Thanks so much for watching!!
I've watched only a little bit for now as I'm more into junk journaling at the moment, but it's great, thank you very much for doing this! I'll definitely watch the rest when I want to pick up my Inktense again.
I really appreciate this video. I bought my derwent Inktense last december and also the Boules de poils book because I saw it in one of your videos. How to do a cool background with these pencils is something that I didn’t know but you show it in a simple way. Thanks Erika for that 😊
Great tutorial! Really helped me to have the courage to expand my use of Inktense to backgrounds. I'd previously only used them for basing. I watched this four times & then used what I learned on a pic in Fairytales by Emelie Lidehall Oberg. Absolutely LOVE it! You rock! Thank you so much for sharing!!💖💖
I love my Inktense! I’ve been colouring with them on Amazon paper (in my very First book I published) and I’ve been using the waterbrush to tip method and it’s working great. I’ve also tried using alcohol blending markers to be able to layer without the paper pilling. I’m a traditional watercolour artist and it’s my fave medium so Inktense is perfect for colouring books because you don’t need so much water. Great video, thank you for sharing! 🇦🇺❤️
This was so helpful and useful to know. I have only recently received the 72 set and don't have much confidence in knowing how to use them. I love the way you did your backgrounds in many of your pages but am curious as to doing inktense on the other parts..ie small objects. I would love to see a complete page done with them, so look forward to whenever you can do this. You have a new subscriber!
This is so useful. I have already ordered the fur balls book but couldn’t decide between the Inktense and the Albrecht Durer pencils. Decision made and I can’t wait for them to arrive. Love your channel and your pages are all so beautiful
Hi Erica I have the 100 set I’ve never used them I’m just to scared I’ll stuff it up.. watching your video has given me some tips I’m totally appreciate your advice..❤❤❤😊😊😊😊xxxx
I enjoy Inktense as well, started with just the 48, and it’s so nice to blend with that was enough for quite a while. I do have all 100 colours now but still tend to use the old favourites. There were a couple of neutrals in the new set that are nice, and a couple of greens but nearly all the others are close to the existing ones, or have white added which makes them a bit murky.
I do like the Sakura Koi pen over the Tombow, as you can add water to the barrel more easily, thus prolonging its life. I’m probably going to try a couple of different blending fluids once I have another dried out one!
Great tutorial! I really like the soft effect you get. My question is don't you find that Inktense pencils make your pages wavy once you've added the water?
Very nice video Erica I’m catching up lol hey I have these pencils and I like them a lot I really need to use them more ! I didn’t invest in the new colors either because I have found I have been using the neo2s way more and I only have the 30 set of them I would spend on up dating them tho more colors would be nice 😂
Yes! Absolutely. However, you do have to be careful when adding more color or your second layer, because you can lift the color you’ve just put down with just regular watercolor pencils. Check out Shel’s Coloring Journey for an awesome video on how she uses her watercolor pencils!!
Great video. Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks. I disagree with your statement that you are not an artist. You make beautiful greeting cards and bring various illustrators’ works to life with your beautiful coloring. You also add interesting elements to pages that look like they were a part of the original illustration with your ability to draw. To me, all of these things say that you are an artist. 😊💛
How do you take off some of the texture after you apply to a page. You mentioned it in your video but was not sure how did you go about removing the texture...did you like "sand" it off?
Hi there ☺️ If I use a medium like clear gesso or satin glazing liquid to prepare my page, then yes, I use will lightly sand the page. I do this once the medium has dried and before I add any color to my page. Clear gesso especially, at least the one I have, leaves my paper very textured once it’s dry.
Please tell me what this coloring book is... I must have it!!! The one in the very beginning...The one you used for actual demo with the girl and the cat.. Thank you😊
I almost never ever see pencil marks! I’ve found that the pigment isn’t fully dissolved if I can see any lingering. Possibly the paper? I would like to see a video of a complete page being done though! If it makes me happy and makes you happy, why not? ❤
Glad to hear you don’t get the pencil lines. I don’t in every book, but wanted to point out that they can happen and that it’s nothing to worry about if someone does have it happen. It totally could be the paper. Thanks so much for watching!!
Why don't you currently own all 100 colors of the Derwent Inktense Pencils? I am asking this question, because there are 28 new colors of the Derwent Inktense Pencils available for sale now.
Absolutely love this tutorial. I would love to see you do a color along -full page. Thank you for all the wonderful tips and advice ❤
Thank you!! I will be adding a full page video to my to-do list ☺️
Incredibly helpful - thank you so very, very much!
This was another wonderful video! I enjoyed it so much and I definately want to try out the background technique.

Thank you for a really helpful video. Your work is beautiful and you have inspired me to give my inktense another try.
Great video Erica!!! Thank you for your time 😊
Very helpful. Thx u Erica.😊

I'm so glad! Have fun with them ☺️
Fantastic! Really enjoyed all of this chat and tutorial
Beautiful tips, Erica ❤. I hope that my inktense background will be as smooth as yours 😊
I feel the same before every background I color ❤️

Thanks for this. The ‘padding’ technique is something I will definitely try 🙏
Loved this video.

I’m so glad to hear that! I think either pencil would be great in that book, but I do have a soft spot for the Inktense ☺️
Thanks for all the inspiration
Thank you for sharing, I have been looking for tutorials using Inktense pencils. I would love to see a full color along using Inktense
Thanks so much for watching!!
Great tips!! Thanks ❤

I’m so glad to hear that! Definitely play around with them to get a feel for them before diving into a page. But they are so fun to use ☺️
great video, id love to see a completed page using the inktense or tombows on amazon paper - thanks in advance

Glad it was helpful!
You are so talented. Your colored pages are so beautiful. Will you do a tutorial using the Inktense pencils in the coloring book Circle of Life?
Can't wait to try this.. I'm so terrible at backgrounds
You are an artist
My 5 and 7year olds love painting with them
This is so helpful! I love my Inktense but I don’t feel like I use them right. This makes me want to break them out and try some more. :)
Glad it was helpful! Get them out and just play ☺️
Very nice video Erica I’m catching up lol hey I have these pencils and I like them a lot I really need to use them more ! Could you tell us what pencil case you are using? ❤️
Thanks for this video, really fun to watch! Can these techniques be used with regular water color pencils as well?
Yes! Absolutely. However, you do have to be careful when adding more color or your second layer, because you can lift the color you’ve just put down with just regular watercolor pencils. Check out Shel’s Coloring Journey for an awesome video on how she uses her watercolor pencils!!
I beg to differ on the “not an artist” ❤ Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks with us!
You’re too sweet ☺️ Thanks for watching Dani!!
Thank you
I have need of help to use my intense
A complete page tutorial would be great!!!
great video , thank you !

Well, that’s very kind of you ☺️ Thank you so much. ❤️
Can you please kindly tell me who is the author of the book you showed gesso on? Thank you! Also thank you for the sanding tip!
Can you use an alcohol blender rather than the tombows I don't have them thanks for this video and demo it was great😊
I do! Needs to be a very juicy blending marker 😊

Hi there ☺️ The book is Boules de Poils by Diane Dufour. I got mine from Amazon US amzn.to/4aHNpKa
Thief is so pretty. How did you think of these colors? This encourages me to use my inktense!
Très joli !
I'd love to see you colour an entire page.
