If you have never made New York style cheesecake in your pressure cooker(PC)...you don't know what you are missing. The book 'Pressure Cookers for Dummies" is a must have. Tells you pretty much everything you need to know about PC'S in one place. Even shows how to convert YOUR favorite recipes for the PC.
I notice that Kohls was running a sale for 52 dollars on black Friday. They appear to be out of stock now. I did the couple stacking online at Kohls to get the deal. Cyber Monday looks like more sales on Amazon, Target.
Thank you for being so honest about the IP not replacing other methods of cooking. I have read many FB Groups where they profess it is the only way to cook from this day forward. You are so right about many recipes are better cooking the old fashion way, oven braising, baking etc. Thank you again for your clear honesty
The Instant Pot does have a slow cook option. The glass lid is sold separately on Amazon. Another tip would be to put hot liquid in before cooking and this will reduce the time.
Libby Reed yes, I have to glass lid for the IP. I use it for sautéing and for the slow cooker. it's awesome! I use it so much I bought an extra insert and am now considering buying another IP. yogurt is super easy. I use mine multiple times a day.
Yes you can. Technically you can do yogurt in any electric pressure cooker, weather it has a yogurt button or not. I don't have the LUX but there are recipes for making yogurt in it . So don't fret. Here's one and you can google for more. naturemoms.com/blog/2017/05/01/making-yogurt-lux-instant-pot/
Check out Flo Lum's you tube channel. She has some great Asian recipes for the Insta Pot. Stephane Manley of Copycat recipes also has some great recipes. I got my Mom one for Christmas. I ordered her a replacement seal an extra pot insert, a lid for the crock-pot function and a cookbook. It added about fifty dollars to the cost but she doesn't have internet so I thought it was necessary for her to have those extras. I enjoy your channel, the sincerity and the joy you show in living a Christian life. You are a witness for Christ in a way many are never able share. God Bless you and your beautiful family.
Crockpots rock. Instant pots are flops. Better tasting meals no. Just faster. You can make baked potatoes in a crock pot. Make a roast chicken in a crock pot remove liner, place under broiler and enjoy. Overpriced item. Good for student dorms, small apt. dwellers and such. Didn't like it.
Awesome review, I'm looking to get one instead of a slow cooker. Also it DOES replace your crockpot, it has a slower cook setting, but the point of the instant pot is to replace the slow cooker if you don't have the time to wait, and have the same tasty dishes.
/facepalm Ashlyn you might want to hit the facebook Instantpot communities there are tons of recipes that use the slow cooker function of the IP as well as many of the other functions of the unit that you are missing out on. Many tips and tricks there as well - such as you can use it to make mixed box rices like Rice a Roni but use 1/3 less butter and water and do a QR to make sure that the rice comes out fluffy!
but you can totally skip the boxed rice a roni stuff (which has a ton of salt and preservatives or whatever) and just make Rice Pilafs or whatever with plain/brown rice.. much healthier! FAST too. Oh and Risotto!.. (haven't done that yet but that is a rave recipe)
Caelidh Goode yes that is true but if you dont have the time they do well in a pinch and taste pretty good, just have to watch your salt intake for a bit afterward!
It's electric and has a bunch of safety features, and keeps a more constant pressure without having to babysit it. A a stove top pressure cooker has to be babysat while cooking food in it.
My instant pot does have a slow cooker option. It allows me to set the temp either high or low, set the amount of time you want to cook, and turn the knob to venting😄❤
However, what I have heard about the IP slow cooker function is that it is not a true slow cooker as it only heats from the bottom and slow cookers heat all around.
Bobbie Tarr yes, I've heard of people using the slow cook function...going to work for 8 hrs and coming home to raw food 😩 Another thing to note...this is a pressure cooker and, while much safer than your old school pressure cooker, these can still explode. Read a story today about a little girl that was right next to her mom when she was opening the IP (after a manual release) and it exploded...burning half of the girls face and body...horrible :-( Just never have kids around them and be careful while opening!
I just got my 6 qt. Instant Pot today 7/11/2017, after looking at some other videos. I saw your channel listed for reviews so I watch what you had to say. I had made a pork loin in my buddies CorSoic pressure cooker and that won me over to get my own as it was so tender after just 20 minutes and had good gravy to go with it as well as potatoes all done at once, that is what sold me. Since I live a lone, I think the instant pot is going to help me with a lot of cooking I would not normally do, and I'll eat more healthy then going for take-out all the time. I think the limits of my imagination is the only thing that will hold me back. I enjoyed your review and your being honest.
I just learned about the instant pot today and bought one myself in the next hour. Strangely enough Amazon had an exclusive deal for $89.99 8Q. The stars must of aligned today =)
Emily BH it is a pressure cooker but better. If you have used the pressure cookers of previous years you know how dangerous they were... This makes it easy for peoole who don't really know how to cook.... And those who do.
I have Fagor pressure cookers and think they are fantastic. They have all sorts of pressure relief/ locking/ safety mechanisms. I see no need for yet another pressure cooker with yet a few more features added - especially since mine works whether there is a power outage or not. I DO NOT need to rely on electricity, to use it.////// Speaking of which, have there been any comparisons to the cost of its use of energy vs just using a single gas or electric burner? I bet the cost is multiple times more, which would only make it less desirable (never mind that it takes up so much more storage space in your kitchen).
Would have been nice to focus on the topic - INSTANT POT - instead of just her talking. She even failed to mention there are different models; hers is the LUX model. Sad sad video, IMO
Not ever having used a pressure cooker before , got my duo 60 about 2 weeks ago and must say , I freakin love this thing. Kinda nervous at first in that old stories from back in the 70s an stuff.. but not so, get one of these , they are Amazing. Great video by the way and very informative. The " preheat time is about exactly as you said give or take a minute or two. Please post more video ., all the best to you. Cheers.
The preheat time is not the same for everything. It depends on your setting, what you're cooking, and the amount that's in it. The front panel lets you know when it's done preheating, when it's cooking, and when it's warm. Pay attention to the "Don't do(s)" and filling limits and you should be okay. Generally the "old tales about pressure cookers" were either dumbasses that did not read or did not follow instructions! I've used pressure cookers for over 40 years and sometimes during canning season have several going at the same time. Never had a problem; however, I followed the instructions. Almost any tool or appliance can be dangerous if you don't follow the instructions or use it for what it wasn't meant to be used for.
it has a slow cooker function..... so yes, it does replace your crock pot.. it is a shift in how you plan your meals. Most folks fail because they forget to plan a meal. The IP is great because if you plan at the last minute you can still get a meal on the table in less than 30 minutes in most cases.....
You can cook veggies. Potatoes are quick. Steamed corn on the cob is delicious. If you change the lid, you can use as slow cooker. I do. Loved your vlog.
I guess the taste factor must be a matter of opinion. Personally I think the taste is 100% better than a crockpot. The IP also seals in the nutrients where the crockpot or oven lose them to the air. I was 12yrs old when my father cooked a roast & potatoes in a pressure cooker. The flavor was intense. The potatoes & carrots were so tasty. I never forgot how much I liked that meal. So when the Instant Pot came out I jumped on it. If a 12 yr old can taste the difference it must be there.
How much did that slow cooker firm pay you for mentioning their pot a quazillion times and NOT mentioning the slow cook function of the "reviewed" device?
Thank you, I hate the flavor of crock pot food and it's why I never use it. I think I will pass on the instant pot and just get a rice cooker which is what led me down this rabbit hole in the first place.
holly cow lol the slow cook button is bigger your finger and you are claiming instant pot doesnt have a slow cooking option. geee ! you are bold enough to make a video review about something you never tried before holy cow
You repeat that it doesn't replace the Crock-Pot, but never say why. Why? I'm on a budget and am on the market for both a pressure cooker AND a slow cooker. Should I just purchase them separately?
The IP doesn't work as well as the separate appliances; however, it does work, just not as well and not as efficiently. If your budget is really tight it may be your best bet to get an IP; however, I'd try to find them on sale and get the separate appliances.
As soon as you try as pressure cooker, you will making more. I’ve steamed rice, baked a cake, hard boiled eggs, steamed corn on the cob, cooked pasta casseroles, enjoyed many different recipes. In fact, am loaning to my son for a few weeks and really miss it. Don’t you think you should add a few notes over your vlog to say it IS also used as a slow cooker? Kind of misleading to anyone who depends on your vlog only when making their decision.
Great review, thanks. I know you mentioned that you find your recipes primarily on Google or Pinterest, but do you have the specific links for the Oatmeal and the Mexican rice please? Thanks for sharing x
LOLOL... if you wanna come home and have dinner ready, don't use the crock pot, USE THE DELAY FUNCTION on the InstantPot, girl! Ever heard about it? Or the slow cooker function on your InstantPot?
I bought a Fagor not knowing it was a multicooking pressure cooker and I love it and bought another brand all 8 quarts. Bought a six quart Fisser for my son and another one a AIAQ for a soninlaw cooking buddy. I love it. Or them. They were cost effective too and are now eliminating many items in my kitchen. The crock pot feature is so great and the yogurt.
You can get great gourmet taste if you use the correct ingredients. Just about anything you can cook in the crock pot, you can cook in the IP. Another person suggested hot liquid to shorten pressurization and its a great tip. Another is that cold and frozen things may take longer to come to pressure, that needs to be taken into consideration. A por full of cold products can take extra time to come to pressure.
Seems like it could have been something great when I was in University, which was 15 years ago. Nowadays not so much however as I actually enjoy spending the time to cook, and I got the time to do it the old fashioned way. Thanks for the review though, good stuff.
I am considering getting one for myself for Christmas this year, since my Crock Pot decided to conk out. Also,my husband broke the glass lid,so,I could not have used it again anyway.
Thank you for making this video! I keep going back and forth rather I should get one. This is the first review I’ve watched and you already convinced me!
Laughing at your suggestion skwashua because the info was great and I like here presentation but the jiggling was causing me to have to just listen and not watch..I think the jiggle is an artistic choice by the way. The young people like it, and old timers like me have to look away.
I would thoroughly wash the stainless steel pot then season it with coconut oil and chives until they start smoking several times. This will take away any metal taste and give it a good food flavor. Right?
I Love Instant Pot ! Just want to comment that your end results are what you put into your dish. If u add Plenty of love for you and your family it will always be gourmet. 👍
If you’re not using your instant pot as a crockpot you’re not taking full ad vantage of it. There is a crockpot setting and it will do the same thing as your crockpot. Esp when you want to brown on the sauté setting, add everything to the pot and set it on crockpot to be done when you get home. It even has a keep warm setting.
I know this is a year old video but I'm contemplating this purchase and wanted an unbiased review from a real mom. Yours came up first! Thank u! So if you see this comment, do u still love it? Any reservations about safety? I honestly used to be scared because I heard horror stories about pressure cooking. Also, can u cook meat right from frozen? Sorry I was a bit unclear on that point. Does it come with recipes? Finally anyone else who reads these, opinions on staying within the brand instant pot or going with cheaper knock offs. Is there a difference in quality? Thank u so much. 😊
tinlizzy39 I still really like it! Don’t use it as much but it’s great, safe, easy to use and this brand is all I know but good. I wouldn’t get an off brand. Always looking for more ways to use it. Good investment!
Do you find the 6 quart is big enough for your family? I did not quite understand the model that you have. I heard D3. Is this the IP DUO60? Are you still using the same model? Love your demonstrations.
Hi Ashlyn! I've just purchased an 8 qt. Instant Pot (it looks exactly like your's) and I used it this afternoon to make ribs - OMG,they were delish! (lol) The reason I'm responding to your video is: you've said the Instant Pot won't/can't replace the slow cooker/crock-pot and I can understand that you can only set the timer for 240 minutes...why does the Instant Pot have a "slow cook" button/feature?? Have you tried the "slow cook" feature? Can/does it "slow cook" for 240 min. (4 hours)? I'm 67 years old - I've been "chief-cook-and-bottle-washer" (lol) for 49 years (I got married when I was 18) and I've used a Pressure Cooker for the past 35 years, maybe a little longer. I bought the Instant Pot because I could no longer find the rubber sealing ring/s for my Pressure Cooker and I know I won't be disappointed! Thank you for your review tips. :-)
If I did not have the space to have all of the individual other items I would buy and Instant Pot but, since I have the others I do not think I will be purchasing one soon. I have, however, continued to contemplate getting an Instant Pot for my camper.
I got am Instant Pot 2 years ago from my kids. It was great. I made everything then one day it just stopped working, I had a pot roast in there and hours and hours later not cooked. so Its good but not make so well. I'm back to using my crock pot again that has lasted 10 years plus and still working great!
Yvonne Chernoff I have read exactly what you are saying in many other reviews & that's what stopped me from buying one. I've seen as little as 5 month's some had already stopped & had a horrible time of getting ahold of the company for replacement. I think I'll stick to what I know as well.
I love cooking artichokes, spaghetti squash, butternut squash in mine because it cuts the time down so much. Also, eggs peel much nicer most of the time. Mmmmm.
I make spaghetti. 1 lb.frozen meatballs on the bottom, add 7 oz. noodles (break to fit), add 1 T. oil (sprinkle on noodles), add 24 oz. sauce, and 3 C. water. 8 minutes later...serve. It makes a LOT!! I'm still adjusting down for best amount.
I make spaghetti in mine. Saute as you would, add the rest of ingredients and cook on manual 10 minutes. I have seen that noodles can be added at that point but I have tried that because I freeze the sauce in quart size ziplocs for quick meals later.
I like my roast sautéed first also. I’ve seen many videos where they do sauté the roast in the IP. I’m getting a IP for Christmas so already checking it out. I’m excited about getting it.
This is the first time I saw your videos. I have all the positive things presented by many people out there on these new crock pots. I am always skeptical about all this hype. After hearing your presentation today, and my wife's birthday is in two weeks I have pretty well come to a decision to purchase a instant pot.
Wished you would have shown more with the inside of the lid since they apparently changed the design recently from what I am seeing on most of these "how to" videos.
Pork shoulders of 10-12 lbs. take about 10-14 hours in the crockpot, depending on the size of the shoulder. A pork shoulder of 10-12 pounds in size would take about 2.5 - 3 hours in the Instant Pot, releasing the pressure naturally.
I steam eggs and have "Hard Boiled eggs" ready to eat in the frig...Use the trivet, add 1 cup water, place eggs on trivet, set for 6 min manual. Pull plug when ends and natural pressure release.
Thanks for all the good info! I'd already pretty much made my mind up that the instant pot isn't for me, but you shed a lot of light on some of my questions. One suggestion - you might consider not editing quite so tightly. I understand you don't want to leave in long pauses where you're collecting your thoughts or coughing, but you're cutting off some of your words. It's really ok to take a breath on camera.
Thank you very much. I'm going to get this for myself and my daughter. My husband and I travel a lot and I use my crockpot often so I feel its time for an upgrade. Thank you again.. Have a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.
Would u recommend getting two of these for large meals?? I have a friend who works at bargain hunt and i got the 6qt duo today for 10 bucks. Thinking about getting another one tomorrow. Thoughts??
I bought a spare inner pot with a silicone lid. I cook one part of the meal, take it out, keep warm in oven while cooking the second part. Awesomeness!
I have a 10 qt Elite pressure cooker, and the 6 qt. Instant Pot. I make the sides in the Instant Pot and the meat and the 10 qt. I love having two of them.
A good honest review. Instead of somebody just wanting to sell the product. Thank you!
Us dad’s cook too. Thanks for your thoughts also.
I was thinking the same thing! I'm the sole cook in my family.
I was thinking that also men need and do cook time for women to get out of the kitchen sometimes and maybe mow the lawn 🇺🇸
Hahaha EXACTLY!
I was thinking the same thing, and I’m a woman. My man does most of the cooking LOL
If you have never made New York style cheesecake in your pressure cooker(PC)...you don't know what you are missing. The book 'Pressure Cookers for Dummies" is a must have. I just got the book, thanks for the recommendation-- it's good.
I appreciate your honesty on this. So often people only give the Oh it's the best or worst item, but your review is very balanced on pros and cons.
I bought mine for 62.99 at Kohls for 6 qt Instant Pot, what a deal!
J Moore wow that is a good deal
I notice that Kohls was running a sale for 52 dollars on black Friday. They appear to be out of stock now. I did the couple stacking online at Kohls to get the deal. Cyber Monday looks like more sales on Amazon, Target.
Dammmm
Got one for $59 on Prime Day, looking forward to trying it out!
Just picked up an 8 quart Instapot black friday deal Fred Meyer $50.
Thank you for being so honest about the IP not replacing other methods of cooking. I have read many FB Groups where they profess it is the only way to cook from this day forward. You are so right about many recipes are better cooking the old fashion way, oven braising, baking etc. Thank you again for your clear honesty
For stir fry: I made brown rice, then sauteed onion, then scrambled egg, added frozen veggies, soy sauce, It was in all-in-one, so tasty!!
The Instant Pot does have a slow cook option. The glass lid is sold separately on Amazon.
Another tip would be to put hot liquid in before cooking and this will reduce the time.
Great tips! didn't know either. Thanks Libby!
Libby Reed yes, I have to glass lid for the IP. I use it for sautéing and for the slow cooker. it's awesome! I use it so much I bought an extra insert and am now considering buying another IP. yogurt is super easy.
I use mine multiple times a day.
keep in mind that the DUO is only for yogurt. YOu can't do Yogurt in the LUX model.
Yes you can. Technically you can do yogurt in any electric pressure cooker, weather it has a yogurt button or not. I don't have the LUX but there are recipes for making yogurt in it . So don't fret. I was quite disappointed in mine, too. Luckily I was able to return mine and get my money back and didn't get stuck with it!
Would be nice if you showed cooking food?
THIS REVIEW IS GOOD, BUT FAILS TO MENTION THAT MOST INSTANT POTS HAVE SLOW COOKER SETTINGS, LOW MEDUM AND HIGH. I HAVE 3 INSTANT POTS. .CHEF TO TRADE.
Oxtail in a instant pot
Also may depend on the brand, and model. As it does with anything you buy.
Awesome review, I'm looking to get one instead of a slow cooker. Also it DOES replace your crockpot, it has a slower cook setting, but the point of the instant pot is to replace the slow cooker if you don't have the time to wait, and have the same tasty dishes.
jed23ify yes! Didn't realize that at the time but you're right!

I would add an annotation about this on your video as you're speaking about it "not" being/replacing a slow cooker.
Is it really necessary to get an instant pot? I mean it sounds like it’s just a brand. Why not just get a regular old pressure cooker?
It's electric and has a bunch of safety features, and keeps a more constant pressure without having to babysit it. A a stove top pressure cooker has to be babysat while cooking food in it.

faith koch just learning this!!! That's great! Even more reason to buy one. 🙌🏼
faith koch Yes indeed.. i got mine about 2 weeks ago and it has this feature , great product.
However, what I have heard about the IP slow cooker function is that it is not a true slow cooker as it only heats from the bottom and slow cookers heat all around.
Carrie P good to know, I've been thinking about buying one & want to know all ups & downs before I am sure of it.
Bobbie Tarr yes, I've heard of

Thank you very much Ashlyn, and thanks for the time you took to make your video, it did not fall on deaf ears..
Yes awesome
To me it is just a gimmick. It is nothing more than a pressure cooker with a built in timer.
Emily BH it is a pressure cooker. Sooo...?

Holy hell, you have 16k subscribers GET A TRIPOD ALREADY. I had to stop watching at 2 mins because I feel like I'm seasick. :x

what a crap product. got one for christmas and now i look like a bad friend because this thing sucks. ill stick to my slow cooker.
Mine as a slow cocker setting so it does replace my crock pot
I loved it agree with everything you said butvi bought three of them and now neitherconecwork anymore they won't even come on

Thought the same thing 🤔

Great video / which is better 6- Qt. Or 8Qt.
Please but a camera stand. I am dizzy from the shaky selfie stick.
The whole time is spent filming your face and not the InstantPot.
I was ok with that.
And she has a nice face. ;)
Her nose is really pissing me off...
Alan May- 😂 you’re so mean!
im ok with her face, shes easy to look at
I just realized these are all ads for for instapot they are not real people
Why don’t you use the slow cooker function??
its nothing but a boiling pot, nothing browns which is horrible.
I like ur review but I do think it does replace a crock pot I love it 😍
I disagree you can get rid of your crockpot this has a slow cooker mode that Allow you to cook stuff very slowly

jfletc3000 Why tie up IP for slow cooking?
LOLOL... if you wanna come home and have dinner ready, don't use the crock pot, USE THE DELAY FUNCTION on the InstantPot, girl!
Steady cam, do you have it! I had to quit watching, made me dizzy.,
I am considering getting one for myself for Christmas this year, since my Crock Pot decided to conk out. Also,my husband broke the glass lid,so,I could not have used it again anyway.
Thank you for making this video! I keep going back and forth rather I should get one. This is the first review I’ve watched and you already convinced me!
The instant pot does have a slow cooker setting. So really it does replace the crockpot.
True
Can the instant pot be used to pressure can vegetables?
Thanks for the review! I haven't seen your other videos so maybe this is an exception, but a tripod would be a great addition to your camera setup. :)
Laughing at your suggestion skwashua because the info was great and I like here presentation but the jiggling was causing me to have to just listen and not watch..I think the jiggle is an artistic choice by the way. The young people like it, and old timers like me have to look away.
#PressureLuck is a RUclips channel, Facebook page, twitter account that has great, easy to follow Instant Pot recipes.
Good honest review. Well done.
Please ask your husband to buy you a tripod for Xmas this year. 😉
Not a good video or review. This does replace a slow cooker. Camera shake, nasal voice... not fun to watch. Sorry.
I would thoroughly wash the stainless steel pot then season it with coconut oil and chives until they start smoking several times. This will take away any metal taste and give it a good food flavor. Right?
Sweetie, men cook too! Don't forget about our guys.
Sarah Muir thanks
Electric version of a pressure cooker
Does it replace a small pressure cooker? Not the kind used for canning but the kind you use for cooking meals.
Do you find the 6 quart is big enough for your family? I did not quite understand the model that you have. I heard D3. Is this the IP DUO60? Are you still using the same model? Love your demonstrations.
My kids Hate Crock pot food, so would you say we should NOT use a insta pot.
Fire up some Moose Meat! yummy!
I love cooking artichokes, spaghetti squash, butternut squash in mine because it cuts the time down so much. Also, eggs peel much nicer most of the time. Mmmmm.
Using Pressure Cooker for brown rice do you set it for 23 minutes?
If it doesn't make spaghetti or fried foods I don't think I want one
I would have to disagree with you on the roast. The roast out of a pressure cooker are 10 times better. Other than that it was a great review.
I feel that roasts/meat in general should be sauteed first then pressure cooked. Beauty is the IP does this in one pot.
Duo Plus 9 in 1 8 quart making cake or eggs have you tried?
I just got my duo plus and did a steam test. The quick release took 20 minutes to release the steam after the cook time was done! Is that normal?
thanks for the review have a wonderful day.
A lot of electric pressure cookers, including Instant pot, have a delay time feature, you can set the start time, in addition to the cooking time..
I would never, ever, ever have a pressure cooker going when I was not at least within hearing distance.
Sorry, but this review was not very helpful. 😞
I steam eggs and have "Hard Boiled eggs" ready to eat in the frig...Use the trivet, add 1 cup water, place eggs on trivet, set for 6 min manual. Pull plug when ends and natural pressure release.
how about you show us cooking something with the thing instead of just talking about it
The new smaller instant pot has a delayed timer. Just so you know. 👍🏾
I am wanting to get one I was wondering about the slow cooker function. I don't see any recipes for the slow cook feature on the Instant Pot
ia that a real plant behind the instant pot and what is it?
Good honest review,thank you.
2:53 "Instead of taking the chicken out, and sauteing it in the oven...." I knew she was drunk. Mom started early today.
😂😂😂😂😂
Can you put frozen food in this?
Stop talking so much and start cooking
Wonder what man built that kitchen for her.
How about you cook something
Can I have the recipe to your oatmeal please please
Thanks for the review! Very helpful. 😊-Mandy
You received it for Christmas, then a few seconds later you said you bought it?... sorry... my gf caught it ;)
She said husband bought it . Clean out your ears !!!
Was hoping to see the pot in the video
Thank you very much. I'm going to get this for myself and my daughter. My husband and I travel a lot and I use my crockpot often so I feel its time for an upgrade. Thank you again.. Have a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.
chili is great and chicken and rolled noodles ! Love my Insta pot
Would u recommend getting two of these for large meals?? I have a friend who works at bargain hunt and i got the 6qt duo today for 10 bucks. Thinking about getting another one tomorrow. Thoughts??
greg0716 even though that is such a deal...I wouldn’t. Having two would take up too much space at least for me! ;)
I put them on top of my fridge ;-) I have a very small house. I totally need more space!!!!
there is an 8 qt now
