I liked how you showed that the clutch isn't perfect for every camera out there. To me that shows honesty and because of that I can trust that the information you're giving me is accurate.
Indeed! I just purchased the xt4 and went looking for a handstrap. Peak design was the way to go with my canon dslr’s using the capture clip for those in combination with the canon handstrap and it works like a charm. Very difficult to find a solution that doesn’t bulk up the body and give a secure grip for the Fuji. :(
I got it on my XT4 when I first got the camera. it is handy for carrying but yeah shooting it is awkward positioning for shutter button but I've used it as such loosened up. it's not perfect though for the XT4 that's for sure. I only saw this video today after over a year owning both! haha..
hey @@funkyboogiee I just got my x-t4, would you still suggest to buy this or have any alternative to look at? I like the PD quality, just bit pricy.. thanks
Owner of an X-T4 here; This is an awesome grip but yes! It does feel funky and when using it I only have 3 fingers within since the other works with the capture button. I still think I will stick with it though since it does feel nice when shooting with it :)
I love this video!! Never expected this for a camera strap video! Genuine, humorous, irreverent and told me everything I need to know about the Clutch hand strap! That "genuine" approach brought me in! Great Marketing piece! Congrats and thanks!
Thank you so much for this video! I bought a used Clutch months ago but couldn't figure out how to attach it-which I'm almost embarrassed to admit since I'm usually very good at figuring out mechanical things and assembling stuff even without instructions! Now that I see how it works, I like the feel of the strap when handling my Canon R7 that I think I'm going to order one for my R5 too!
I have a clutch on my Fuji GFX50S with battery grip. It fits comfortably with no issue. The PD Clutch provides me with added security and it looks good with it attached to the camera. It is perfect for the Fuji XT5 with the SmallRig cage attached. With the cage it is easier to attach and looks good, as well.
Using this with a Sony A7RIV and Meike MK-A9IIG grip - really excellent, improves handling of larger lenses significantly. Thanks guys and keep up the good work.
@@owlmostdead9492 Normal size hands! What camera are you shooting? I can’t see how the clutch wouldn’t fit even huge hands, as my hands are normal size and I have to tighten the clutch quite a bit to make it feel snug for me
@@boisvertphotography I think the main issue with Sony bodies is that the "ear"/ connection point is too low compared to the shutter button. I removed the PD strap and noticed that even without it my hand is right up against that metal connection point.. my pinky is also barely holding onto the grip and is almost falling off. I don't have that issue on bigger bodies, a battery grip might fix this issue for me. Edit: I use a Sony a 7iv
@@owlmostdead9492 Ahhhhh yes, and yes I totally agree, the ergonomics of Sony cameras aren't great. I only ever use my A7RIV with the Meike MK-A9IIG grip I mentioned attached, as I find holding the camera without that grip attached to be pretty terrible, honestly. With that grip attached the clutch works great, in my experience!
@@boisvertphotography Yeah I totally missed the part where you mentioned you were also using a battery grip sorry. I'll probably get the original Sony grip since I don't want to un-weather seal my camera but I heard the Sony grip fits terribly to the Sony a 7iv.
Thanks a lot for the good explanation. I was very disappointed with the product. The spring fell off almost immediately and when I tried to get it on again there were a lot of scratches in the metal buckle. I only bought it 2 hours ago. So.. people: take care of the spring :D
EOS R - this was too small for my hand even when loose to comfortably hit all the camera buttons. I just used the spare anchor on the top eyelet and ran the clutch strap through the anchor loop. The anchor is sandwiched between clutch strap and clutch knuckle pad. Fits me much better.
the one update I'd like to see made to clutch is having a quicker way to remove the tripod mount that doesn't include an Allen wrench. Or even just including an additional screw mount that can be easily unscrewed from the bottom of the camera so I can attach my different tripod mounts. I ended up just buying a screw mount from Amazon with a loop on it from Amazon for $5
@JimiCanRead I mean the digital OM-1. I checked the dimensions and the G80 is only a few mm smaller than the OM-1, so I imagine it will work on the G80 just fine. It's smaller bodies like the Olympus EM5 where it should likely not fit well.
I wish this video was available much earlier when I bought the PD Clutch for my XT-20 back in 2017. I was always a fan of a hand strap since the days I had an EOS-A2 (EOS 5 non-digital) and had nice grip strap with quick release (pulling on the strap buckle to release it) - back then OP//Tech pretty much ruled the roost locally. I bought the PD Clutch blindly because of this and ran into the same problem where the strap interfered with the shutter release button on top of the camera. It's a real pity though as the PD system is nice - I still do use the PD Slide (Fujifilm branded) with my XT-20 that I got for a very nice price thanks to the local Fuji club.
I love the clutch but personally don't like using the clutch on the Sony a7. It's a little restrictive cuz the eyelet is lower than a canon or nikon. However, when I use a cage system, the clutch is back on the camera!
I use the clutch on all my Sony mirrorless cameras, even the small ones like the a6000. Works great on all of them. Only issue I've had is that I use them so much, the straps are disintegrating lol
Thanks, this is helpful to know! I have an a6000 and am thinking of getting the regular clutch over the micro clutch because the regular would let me put my whole hand through it
Hi.. Does it have a standard size? or does it vary which region it’s sold? I noticed that the tail in the video seems to be longer compared to what I just bought. Mine doesn’t extend as far as it did in the video and I don’t have big hands. 🤔
my first Peak Design product - I would never been able to install without this video and then on pause to see postions of anchor, strap, etc. Secondly on my Canon 7D my thumb is resisted using back focus unless I loosen it completely Time will tell Thoughts?
Damn. I'm an X-T4 user and just got my PD clutch and found that its almost impossible to access the trigger with the clutch installed. I'll try and return for a strap.
I have this peak design clutch hand strap, but the standard plate is not compatible with my Manfrotto QR plate. I shoot on tripod also, so i need the flexibility to be able to mount the camera on the tripod and shoot handheld quickly, without having to switch out the standard plate.
I’m a hybrid snooter and I often take the camera from the gimbal to take photos the I mount it back in. With the current neck strap I can do that, but with this one that requires me to replace the gimbal bottom plate with its own it’s such a bummer that stops me from buying this hand strap. I already have the neck strap.
When you loosen to shot do you still feel like there is a sturdy grip on the camera? I am always afraid of dropping my pricey gear and I wear my strap always. Is it possible it can slip out of your hand when loosened?
I already asked support, but perhaps someone in the comments can help. Is there an option for using Clutch on the left hand? It doesn’t look the most ambidextrous, but I’d love a comfortable solution like Clutch that works for people who have to hold weight in their left hand
The standard plate is too big for smaller mirrorless 'coz it can block the battery door, impeding battery changing (which mirrorless need to do more often).
