- Ili-ili Tulog Anay is a folk song (lullaby) from the Ilonggos. It is usually sung by a sister or another female relative to keep a child sleeping while the mother is away.
This is my performance video report for History of Philippine Music under Prof. Patrick Frias.

I'm an Illonggo and I couldn't sleep 😂 but I think it's because I only heard the "Ili Ili Tulog anay, wla diri imo nanay" part so I assumed that it was a song about a ghost telling you "Your mother is dead, so you should also sleep"..... never heard the full lyrics. 😅

Memories. I was 6 years old when my Mother used to sing me this. She knew she will not last long because of cancer that's why she sang and recorded her voice. When she died, Her cellphone will automatically sing this at night because it was set as alarm tune. That is when I am at bed already.

I sang this song to my Lola while she was on her death bed two years ago, it was the last time I ever saw her alive. She could barely move but she used all her strength to pet my hair while I sang to her. She died in the fall and always loved the colors of the leaves. She died without ever seeing them again so whenever I see those colors I feel her with me and I sing this song.

Ilonggo is not a dialect just like our kapampangan language. We have a museum in our school and we actually have our own script which is called "kulitan" and a dictionary for kapampangan. Please do research on dielects and language. Mali kase tinuro sa atin nung elem tayo. Tagalog is our national language na common na ginagamit but we have several other languages in the philippines. Here in pampanga we have a dialect also. We know if someone is from the other barrio because of their accent and the words they use. Example : the word "here" in guagua, pampanga, I hear old people say "keti".
People from san fernando pampanga use "keni"
Guagua: atiu na la keti
San fernando: atsu no keni
Tagalog: nandito na sila
^ i think that's how dialect is.
We use different words but it has the same meaning and we still understand it. Samantalang sa language naman... hindi mo maiintindihan totally dahil unrelated or hindi kumuha or nag derive ng words coming from them. In short magkaibang mag kaiba.
@@vertighorl1320 Correct. Me, as language use are Maguindanaon, Tagalog ang Bisaya, I cannot understand Illongo. That is why it will consider as language. Not dialect.

This is actually a lullaby. When our filipino teacher told us the actual meaning, I was disappointed that they used a song meant to make someone sleep into a song associated into the white lady.
That concept is copied from "Ring 'round the rosies" associated with black death during the dark ages
+Existential Reader I mean the song lyrics fit the description of the movie itself. They could've use a better song, but one look at my Pluma and I was sent with shivers down my spine. It's amazing how they could interpret the song in such a way.
Best version I ever heard. It's not creepy to hear for me. It sounds better if it was harmonize plus the singers are so good which make the song sound angelic.
I recommended this version to a friend. They sang it for their buwan ng mga wika song contest and they won.

i think there is two types of ilonggo languages hiligaynon and karay-a if im not mistaken
Hiligaynon or Ilonggo is a Visayan language. Kinaray- a is a visayan dialect

@@cristycarlos2941 Between Hiligaynon and Kinaray-a the difference or similarities is too close. The only distinguishing characteristics of Kinaray-a they say is the ROLLING OF RRR's when spoken. My parents are from Dao, Antique and we understand them and we have an aunt who is Ilonga coz of her dad. Somehow I'm able to understand her from bits of words that I've heard from my mom. There are some words that are common to both languages. Are they then dialects of each other?

this makes me cry a lot i’m from bacolod and when i was just one month old my mother left me to go to work in dubai
so my grandma always sings this to me and until now i still remember it and my mother always couldn’t come to my birthday
and every year she hardly stays with me for 2 months and last year she said she would come to my birthday so i was really excited
but then on my birthday i waited a whole day asking my aunt when my mother is going to come but then at that moment she called us saying
she couldn’t come this month and then i took the phone from my aunts hand and while crying i talked to my mom so i waited and waited for her to come back but she never came now it is 2020 but my mother didn’t come yet because of the corana virus and i know nobody cares and i don’t expect you to like this comment but if you do thank you 😊 thanks for spending your time reading this comment

Hello,when I found this song I decided to sing it to my little brother when we were at Manila with my relatives,my mother and aunt went out to buy food for us and so I had to stay in a room with my little brother,I remembered this song and since it was very late he needed to sleep so since it can be sing my any female relative or a sister I decided to sing this for him to fall asleep and it worked.As an ate(older sister) I love singing this to my little brother to sleep while my mom or older sister is not with us,this song also makes me sleep whenever I’m having nightmares,I’m not Ilonggo or anything but this song is one of my favorite lullabies now ^w^

It's nice but something's missing. Maybe cuz it's a smaller group? It's lacking harmony? It sounded like they all have their own melody. I was hoping to hear more chords, at least 2-3 voices together. Still good!!

The start where the girls are singing, baby Lapu-Lapu watches his village burn at the hands of tyrants. When the bass singers come in, Lapu-Lapu grows and becomes a warrior. He harnesses his skills and trains to become a fighter, (as the girls return to sing) with an overlay of his mother at the beach, carrying him as a child. He learns Kali, wielding his two swords, shield on his back, red bandana swaying in the wind.
When the second verse enters, you see him attacking the base of the conquistadors, until he reaches the leader of the conquistadors. Then boss battle happens, when the chorus returns. He gets shot by a stray guard, but manages to fight back, bloodied and sweaty, he fights the armored conqueror, swinging his swords. He loses one sword, and he uses his shield to lock the leader down and take him out.
As the chorus ends before the change in style he walks out, and then when the style changes, he finds himself in a rice field walking home.

Sad to think 'ili ili tulog anay' was associated to a horror movie. When I was little i sing this song for my little sister to make her fall asleep. This song was sung by our lola's when we're little.
My mother used to sang this whenever I can't sleep while she rubbing my back.
