- At the 2017 Battle Creek Speedfest, we see a C6 Corvette ZR1 going up against a C7 Corvette Z06 in a half mile drag race. This event was in conjunction with the 2017 Battle Creek Field of Flight air show and Balloon Festival.

C7 Z0 has stg 3 aero package with HUGE air brake Gurney spoiler out back. Its for downforce on circuit tracks, not straight line acceleration.... if the C7 Z0 had the regular rear spoiler which is 80% smaller and more angled backwards, the ZR wouldn't have caught up. I've seen almost a half a sec, basically .04 tenths drop off a 1/4 time and 3 mph picked up from removing the Stg 3 factory spoiler package.
@Robert Crawford III Wilson Stfu, LS is way better than 2JZ, there is an LS swapped lotus that did 270 mph (Hennessy Venom GT).

Because the gearing in the zr1 sucks ass and it has like a 80lb clutch
After taking a ride in a ZR1 I took back all the shit I said about Chevrolet that LS9 isn't a joke
never was a joke. its the most solid. Look at the crate motor prices and internals for the c6 zr1 vs the c7 lt4

Both cars are great, but made for different reasons. The C6 ZR1 was a top end monster. It was made to pull hard all the way up go its top speed, and it was great at that. It just happened to handle and brake well. The C7 Z06 was made for the track. At 125mph, the Z06 (without the Z06 package) makes 2× the amount of down force as the ZR1. It also has much shorter gear ratios for the track and more aggressive suspension/camber/toe angles that are geared towards track driving vs. Top speed.
man the c6z shape is just iconic, i'd take all day any day over any other gen
Yep, love my C6 Z06, no interest in owning a C7. Gonna gonna get another low mile C6 Z06, recondition the heads, and keep it nice for posterity.

Badassvidsz The 2017 z06 has a revise cooling system so I don't think overheat anymore.
I hope you are right cause i've watched some videos for the 2017 zo6 for the 8 speed auto having this issue and it bothers me a lot as a vette fun:-(

John is correct, the problem was fixed for the 2017 model year & Chevy has fixed many of the prior year C7Z's with the issue.

That was simply a demonstration of an A8 vs a M6 driven average at best.. that top end pull of the LS9 is disgustingly awesome

all 2017 model Corvette ZO6 C7 have the overheating issue fixed along with the Cadillac CTS why do you think when the new Camaro zl1 1le came out there was no problems with overheating
The old ZR1 is almost 200 lbs lighter. The ZO6 also has the road coarse spoiler on which is a no no on the strip. ZR1 is also geared for speed. Straight line performance ZR1 is still the best that GM can offer.

Need some advice from experts. In terms of looks and affordability, should I get a c5 (stock) with 33K miles or a c6 (stock) with 100K miles? You find some of these cars in the same price range. Also leaning toward convertible. My Dad is a Z06 guy. I don't like driving too fast though, but appreciate the ability.
C6 all day long. The LS3 is a much more durable motor. Plus, the LS2 is at an age now where finding parts for it will become more difficult than it is already, while the LS3 is still in production after 15 years which means you will be finding parts easily for the next 30 years.

With a mint condition C1 you can trade it in for three mint condition c6 ZR1.

I hear neither is stock but if they were I would expect the race to go like that. Z06 quicker off the line but ZR1 reeling it in later due to aero and downforce. A ZR1 is a 205-210mph car while a Z07 package car is around 186.

The C6ZR1 will always be a legend. It just seems that the 1.7 liter blower in the C7Z06 becomes a restriction in the top end. How does the C6ZR1 perform against the C7ZR1 with its 2.65 liter blower?

@@hpickettz34 he's giving an opinion. I prefer the C7 as do most people I know. Looks more exotic. People get too hung up on tailights and won't except change, even though personally the C7 fits in sitting next to a Ferrari, where the C6 just looks like a nice car that doesn't quite belong there

This did not seem right. If given the same tires and same weight the Z06 should be a tad faster. Also after the C6 fell behind it started to pull and close the gap crazy fast. what could have possibly accounted for that? Im confused.

wow the 09 ZR1 pulls it hard after 1/4 ...like bad .....I know the trap speeds i the 1/4 are about 7 mph in the ZR1 (ETs are close in stock form according to magazine tests) favor but this is a real beat down ! I love the looks of the C6 ZR1 and C6 Z06 ....the new ones haver a better interior though.
my 2018 Zo6 with no heating problems, bigger SC Hat and charge cooling system will do well over 200 mph!
correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the C7 Z06 geared for acceleration and the ZR1 For top speed? hell top speed wise isn't the C6 Z06 faster than the C7?
the new one also has way way way more aerodynamic drag so it's not anywhere near as fast top end.
Kills t1, your correct. The old ZR would not need much to take down the C7 Z0 out of the hole. C7 Z0 0-60: 3.2 sec technically. The best in a old C6 ZR: 3.4 sec. The new Z06 is 300 lbs more than a old base C6 Z06.
What a lot of idiots don't understand, the ones that have to have the newest of anything, that doesn't mean better, quicker, faster or more reliable.
Seems this ZR1 engine is not stock and has been modded to give it that extra pull over this "stock" Z06. Mod the Z06 and then see who wins this race. Lets be fair when making assessments and assumptions that a C6 ZR1 is faster than a stock Z06 when it isnt!

In germany we drive fast on autobahn and C7 feels safer at higher speeds; also the interior was a huge step forward.
Almost everyone who upgrades from a C6 of any kind, into the C7 will agree with you. Don't listen to these magazine racers.
There are numerous guys who owned a c6, bought a c7 .... and then went back to a c6.
Take some advice from an owner
It would come down to driver. I had a 2010 ZR1 (first one with magnetic ride control) and have a 19 Z06 (overheating problems are gone). The variable with the Z06, other than M7 vs A8, is the Aero. The stage 2 and 3 aggressive aero sacrifices some speed, but makes up for it on a road course. With Stage 1 Aero, it would come to driver. However, the C7 Z06 *feels* like it has a lot more torque and power. The lowest they dyno stock is 530rwhp and some are as high as 560+. Both are incredible. The ZR1 was a little more exclusive, if that's your thing. Personally, I couldn't care less about that. Plausible deniability never hurts with a fast car. lol
C7 ZR1, though. . that thing is a ****ing monster. I can't wait to see what they do the next few years with the mid engine. That could get stupid as it would solve a lot of grip problems. Not everyone wants a parking bench wing like the new ZR1, Vipers, etc. Unless it is a 911 GT2 RS. In that case, I don't care if you put a naked fat dwarf on the back.
C7ZR are a disappointment (losing to everything) and your are crazy if you think C7Z06 feel stronger than C6ZRs torque and speed. Weight is the key.
Driver has nothing to do with top end or extended speed runs. You hold your foot to the floor and go.
The C6 ZR1 is the best of the best. Even the mid-engine one was torn to shreds.

yes the Zr1 is faster because It is lighter then a A8 zo6 , now with m7 zo6 it be different, I have heard the A8 c7 zo6 is faster from the dig but lose some on top like we saw here... yes the Zr1 is manual so it can get it in the long run.
