  • Haven't been camping in years because Mom and I hate sleeping on the ground! We have a camping and backpacking trip scheduled for this summer, so we thought a canopy or small camper would help cover and secure the gear, and spread all 6 of us out a bit more during the driving stints. This camper will work well and we stayed under budget at $400.

    Don't know why they ever stopped making those little campers , they were great for hunters and weekend warriors .

      Oh they still make them, just not as simple

      the price of them new are just as much as a tow along/5th wheel now. they really were only worth it for the couple grand you'd pay to get an older one second hand. i just picked one up (bit bigger then this one you can stand up in it) for $75 its from the early 70's and needs some work but it was a $500 camper i got for almost free!

    Very nice, really love your woodworking skills and vision. Now I've got to hunt up some barrel staves for myself.

      +Not Here Thanks! Hard to find wine barrels for free anymore, but I see them around for $50 or so. I posted a few other videos of wine stave projects if you wanted some other ideas. Thanks for watching.

    Might point out the benefits of cedar are their aromatic properties n also it deters fleas n moths. The staves will also deter other bugs from its use of same n have a long life from rot etc.
    like ur job n enjoy ur camping with your children...a lil cramped, but they'll make do.
    Thnx

    There is a place in Tx. That still builds them. Luckily I found a used one. Check out Capri campers. There are some cool ones.

    cool im looking at a simular camper for my ram the non cab over look just looks fantastic and the low profile as long as I have 4 feet inside im good Im hoping these campers weight 1000 or less pounds thou im sure yours does after the remodel Id do something simular but would probly do 2 singles or 2 twins with a walk area and a removable centre to make a queen depends wether im traveling with my guy friend or my girl friend lol!

    • @onexwright9482
      @onexwright9482  3 года назад

      You bet. Good luck with your build. The Queen at 60” wide allowed for a bit of space on the side for storage, but not much. Two twins at 38” each wouldn’t have fit. You’d have to custom build a couple of smaller singles to have a small walkway.

      @@onexwright9482 Thank you I got 1 for 100 bucks and it doesnt leak has a dinette that turns into a 6 x6.5 bed and has 2 18 inch wide 3 foot tall cabinets only 4 and a half feet tall inside but decent have some custom work and possibly add some additional electrical like 12v led lights and a couple more 120v options added only has a single 120v outlet some paneling should be replaced and a window where a board now sits in its place good winter project
      hope to make videos on my reno

    hey there, i have almost the same camper thatvwe are remodeling, but we dont have camper jacks, how do you load your camper? trying to avoid spending 500 + on jacks but afraid i may have no choice!

    • @onexwright9482
      @onexwright9482  8 лет назад

      This camper isn't too heavy, so two of us can slide it back past the tailgate until it is close to center, then we lift up the cantilevered edge and put a saw horse under it. Then with one of us on each side, we lift up the front by hand, and have Mom drive the truck out and throw another sawhorse under the front. Then reverse the process for installation.

    • @onexwright9482
      @onexwright9482  7 лет назад

      No, sorry...just put it on the trailer so I could get it in the shop easier. It fit pretty well on there though...could've left it on there.

    Does that little 12 volt heater warm up the whole camper?

    • @onexwright9482
      @onexwright9482  8 лет назад +1

      It does pretty well actually. It is a fairly small space and the body heat keeps it above freezing when we visit ski areas and such. The heater gets it to 60 very fast. The truck is a diesel with dual batteries, so we can run it early mornings for an hour or so without starting the truck...haven't pushed it past that yet. Ideally I will install a switch that will allow me to run the heater off one battery until it dies, then switch to the second for starting the truck and charging the first...

    How much did this cost in all?

    • @onexwright9482
      @onexwright9482  8 лет назад +3

      I believe I had about $450 into the whole project. The camper was $300 to purchase, then around $150 in materials. You could probably do it a bit cheaper though...good luck!
