I like this guy. He’s always so cheerful and upbeat. He brings a lot of joy and enthusiasm to his reviews. It’s nice to see someone loving what he does so much.
I camp from a canoe or my small motorcycle. I buy a sack/package oh freeze dried refried beans. I divvy up this into 20 servings. That will vary with package size, and your preferences. I run the contents through a food processor to pulverize the pellets, not necessary, I just do it. Each of my servings, I pack in sandwich sized ZIPlock bags. I add some dry spices- garlic & cilantro. In camp, I boil water, and add approx 3/4 cup to a bag of bean mix, and let it rehydrate. I pack some tortillas inside a frisbee, with a similar frisbee pressed down inside of it. This 1. Protects the tortillas, 2. Provides a dinner plate, and a serving platter, and 3. Provides a couple of toys to play with. I bring along an onion, and dice up a slice to add to the beans on a tortilla. Simple, tasty, and filling. I plan to use the Stan,ey cooker over me Littlbug twig stove Courtesy of Half Vast Flying
Really well done, and a great personality. I ordinarily hammock-camp (not long backpacks), so I cook over a fire, and I just toss an alcohol stove in my Stanley, because I can then at least make coffee and oatmeal under my tarp. The alcohol stove takes up little space, and leaves room for several of the things you add to yours. Thank you for sharing your experience with those of us who love our Stanleys. Be safe, and happy camping!
I already had the Stanley cookset. I had also put together a similar set up but liked many of your suggestions and was compelled to make a trip the Walmart and add to my current kit to make a better kit. A scotch Brite pad wrapped around the base of the Stanley and fitted into the Ozark cup will keep things tight and rattle free.
Thanks I have been wanting a large mug to set on top of flames. Amazon has that mug for $12.50 And it is indeed at Walmart for $5.74.. I know where I am going tomorrow. I am not a big camper. I lost my husband so I have a nice camp set up in my covered patio. That is what I need the equipment for. I love eating food that has been cooked over fire. I love your video and your energy. I liked and subscribed so I can see more.
Another modification: the French press part of the big Ikea French press fits perfect into the Stanley cookset, so you can make easily a big pot of coffee in your Stanley cookset too :-)
I love my Stanley cook set, it works great for hiking and camping. I like making my morning coffee and oatmeal with this kit when I'm camping. The only thing they should change is that plastic handle on the lid. I've already pushed the cups to the side, but they are great for measuring because they have a graduation mark inside the cups to measure 1-cup. I seem to find that my cheap Etekcity stove works best with this pot instead of my pocketrocket 2, the pocketrocket works better on larger pots. I put all my cook kit and misc. items together in one ditty bag.
I have almost the same setup! Works great. It's so nice to fit it all in the Stanley to keep it organized. I have the canister feet from Jetboil (the orange plastic feet) which fits inside the Stanley with everything else.
You can also use Stanley pot with the insert in the Firebox and Trangia, or if you run out of fuel you have the option of using bio fuel. Trangia fits inside Stanley, Firebox packs flat, cheaper fuel than canisters and less weight. I keep my cups or at least one (member of the green club) use a Primula filter to make my coffee, granted it may not pack together with this kit but you can use a ranger band to add it to Firebox kit. These are just other ideas, aside from your wonderful video. Keep making them, I enjoyed it much. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great Video. I just put one of the green cups at the bottom, place my BSR stove pop a mini Bic lighter and a small scrubber pad, a couple of instant coffee packets and a Tea bag, in the cup. Then the fuel canister on top that, and it makes it way easier for the canister to come out. And I still run the Ozark Trail MUG nested on the outside of the Stanley, they way I have to cups. Great Job 👍😎
That msr canister stand also fits the base of a svea 123r and coleman 502. Both are white gas stoves. I've also made a coozie to hold all of it. I used reflectix and aluminum tape. That way I can heat it then drop the ozark trail or tanley cup in there to rehydrate. It also holds everything rattle free with a long handled spoon and fishmouth spreader for hanging over a fire.
I have several of the adventure cups and love them. So many ways to set it up and couple it with other cooking gear. The lid from the GSI Halulite Minimalist mug fits the Stanley adventure cup beautifully. Thanks for sharing!
the Stanley Adventure cook set in my opinion is one of the best cook sets there is very affordable and very versatile oh and by the way It gets 70 below zero in northern Minnesota I have friends that camp in that weather all the time
If you want to be able to hang the pot over a fire, you can create a little retractable bail using hardware wire and those wire connectors with two screws. I suspect that the crimps with two channels would work even better, since you could loop the wire through both channels and have a running channel and a crimped end, but the single channel ones with the screws work well enough. The idea is that you double up the wire going through two of the fittings and you're able to push the fittings back to cause a section of wire to extend that you can then use as a bail, and then retract when you're done.
I have the one you have and two other stanley cook sets. One has a fry pan plates and utensils. Also have the one with a canister and 3 little ones for herbs and spices. I love them all!
Walmart sells a separate lid for its 30 oz. tumbler that fits the Stanley pot. It has an excelent seal and would prevent spills if the pot was tipped. It's plastic, so I wouldn't cook with it, but it turns the Stanley pot into a "leak-proof" cold-soak vessel. I filled mine with water and held it upside down over the sink for quite a while with no drips or lid-failure. Sells for under $4.00.
I bought one of those 30oz lids for my Cookset I just bought ! There are a couple other hacks I show too! And I have discovered even more hacks which I have not seen on youtube yet that I need to make a video for soon!
Hello Chris, it's good to see you again. I own two of the Stanley cook sets and two of the Ozark Trail nesting stainless steel nesting cups. I use the sets and enjoy them. The Stanley lid interchanges with the Ozark Trail cup. All the best to you, stay healthy. 🤗
I just got mine yesterday and couldn't be happier. But the two cups weigh almost as much as the pot (I think, combined, the two cups are just under an ounce lighter than the pot and lid combined). So I'll relegate the two cups that came with it to my car-camping gear and I grabbed a collapsible silicone cup to use instead. But, without the two cups, it's not overly heavy and I love the large capacity.
I poked a hole in the plastic tab with a hot nail near the top and with the handle over the lid, you can suspend the cup from a tripod. If/when the tab melts I will use your keyring idea. Thanks.
They have them at Amazon for $8.59 with Coupon on Amazon right now! I got 3 more sets. Better grab one (Or more) while you can. I just made a Cook Set for my daughter that's into Backpacking & she absolutely Loves it. I took the Cups out & put them in my Car Camping Kit. I put a Fuel canister in, A Jetboil Fuel Stand, A BRS 3000t Titanium Stove (Less than an Ounce) a tiny Ziploc Bag with 8 each of those little Salt & Pepper Packets, 6 Starbucks Via Instant Coffee Packets, Bic Lighter & 4 Tea Bags. I nested it in a GSI Glacier Mug with a thin scrubber pad around the inside edge to keep it from rattling. I put in all inside a small Mesh Bag with draw string with a spork snugged up next to it. Mine is identical to hers but I also have a GSI Java Drip instead of the Instant Coffee.
I have a better option than a sponge, which is bulkier and dries slowly,. Scotch Brite Scour pad. It lacks the spongy part. The Blue non-scratch version is good. The Green version is more aggressive, and scrubs almost like steel wool. They're thin. Dry quickly. Cheap. And just about the right level of abrasiveness.
The only problem I have with this (which is what I use) is that the Stanly pot is just a little small for the MSR 2. It will work, just keep an eye on it so it doesn't fall off.
Great review! Love the Stanley and Ozark Trail products, and I have and use some of your other goodies. Very good suggestions on additional gear- I'll be shopping soon! Get yourself a travel size flip top plastic bottle and some Dr Bronner's soap. It's biodegradable and you can use it for your dishes and also for your shower. Love multi-use gear! Thanks again!
I'll add that if you're in bear country, get the unscented Dr. Bronner's which is meant for kids/sensitive skin. It has the light blue label. All the others are scented and have to be put in your bear bag/canister.
A Ikea or Boden French press plunger will fit perfectly in the Stanley pot, as well. Just need to cut the rod off the plunger down and the whole thing will fit inside the pot, if you want it all crammed inside. Otherwise, just unscrew the rod from the plunger. And keep it outside the pot.
Too Funny 😮. I have these two items as my only cook set while SUV 🏕️ camping.. I warm up my can soups , etc, and eat from them .. I see folks bring all kinds of cookware , but only use a fraction of it .. SUV setup conversion is extremely simple and functional..
Great little set up that....the Stanley cook set here (uk) is about £25...cheaper if you shop around...was thinking about the GSI pot you showed and the pocket rocket 2 as a back up cook set...so Chris that’s given me food for thought...in the meantime tho I’ll use my jetboil flash it’s as easy as easy gets....
Hi Alastair, yes the Stanley cook set is a rare beast to get hold of in the UK and like you say is around the £26-35 price point. I'm trying to find one that's in stock. I'd heard that you could fit a small gas canister inside but the smallest one I have is 11 cm diameter x 7.6cm tall and I've just realised that it won't fit. Who know that there was even a smaller diameter canister out there? Guess I'm on the hunt for the smaller canister now or look out for another cook pot solution that can take the regular size.
GSI Lifetime Warranty!! Buy it once and never have to worry again! Youll save the extra money in fuel also the stanley will take a lot more time to boil than the GSI. GSI also has bowls and cups you can put all that stuff into and not need other cups or bowls due to leaving them bulky green ones out..
Great review. Just got one of these 2nd hand with a tatonka steel mug and a long-handled spork. Glad i found it because these kits are hard to find in the UK at the moment. I'm storing mine in an old fleece-lined climbing chalk bag. Consider me a new subscriber 😀
Seen MANY people in videos talk about the green tab melting and replacing it with a key ring. Can't see how that is even possible unless you are using it over a wood-burning fire or have it nestled down in coals or something. Using a typical liquid fuel canister stove, the green tab will be just fine. In fact, if you replace it, you'll just be making your life more difficult as the key ring will lay flat against the metal lid (which will make lifting the lid practically impossible without burning yourself). Good call keeping intact!
Thanks! I was thinking the same thing...they must be dropping it into the middle of a campfire. For mostly boiling water the fuel/ canister stove is just fine...no soot to clean up too. "Keep Hiking!"
The keyring mod works great. Just feed it partially onto the lid and it'll fold down when you need it to, but also stand up if turned up. And yes, the tab melt if used in a fire, especially if you turn it sideways and try to bake bread in it. That's how it goes with camping, though.
I'm at the fuel stand yeah be careful you're dating yourself and I don't mind saying I'm 62 I remember that I remember the landing and all that but you should add more of the Stanley cup sets like the mountain cook set and all that with it you know make a video of what you can actually put together what would Nestle together but you'd have to modify the handles so you can take the handles off and stick them in the pots or you know somehow arrange them to where you can have them all inside and have all the handles with you and everything you need that would be a nice video
I am looking at the Fire-Maple Island Steamer Kit. It could be pretty good. It has a bunch of stuff with it including silverware, cutting board, cups, and you can put your canister in the pot too. They sort of stole some of your ideas. :-)
I like this guy. He’s always so cheerful and upbeat. He brings a lot of joy and enthusiasm to his reviews. It’s nice to see someone loving what he does so much.
Thank you Matthew! Enjoying the ride..."Keep Hiking!"
I feel the exact same way. He is awesome.
I feel the same. Chris is Awesome.

I know it will survive a 900 ft drop, I carried one as a paratrooper and my pack strap broke when I jumped. When I recovered my pack no damage.
Wow...good to know...glad your parachute strap didn't break! Thanks for watching.
If you remember the blizzard of 1978 I was in Northern Illinois, our first wave gave us over 5 ft of snow with 15 ft drifts and minus 64°F wind-chill.
Really well done, and a great personality. Hi from Ireland! That’s a nice set up for the excellent Stanley product. Well presented video and love your popular culture references.
Thank you kindly! Keep Hiking!
not sure about the presentation but information is excellent 👍
This was great. I almost skipped. I’m so glad I didn’t. I have a shopping trip to do and you have a new subscriber.

The only difference between the msr universal stand and the lunar module is that the msr actually did what it claimed. 😊
I have several of the adventure cups and love them. So many ways to set it up and couple it with other cooking gear. The lid from the GSI Halulite Minimalist mug fits the Stanley adventure cup beautifully.

Welcome! Good to know...might have to pick a the Halulite! ( review ) "Keep Hiking!"
I managed to get 2 for 20 on Amazon and I love it. I might modify it but it still works no matter how you use it. Great video
Awesome! Thank you!
the Stanley Adventure cook set in my opinion is one of the best cook sets there is very affordable and very versatile oh and by the way It gets 70 below zero in northern Minnesota I have friends that camp in that weather all the time
Yes for $16 you can't go wrong! I grew up in Minnesota...Vikings Fan! ( camping at anything below zero is pretty intense....must be ice fishing ) )
I have almost the same setup minus some of the accessories like the coffee drip etc, and it works great. Fits perfectly in a crown royal bag.
Good stuff!

Keep up the great work you do for all us wild campers

Thanks 👍 Andy! ( You guys are wild! )
Great video!!! Love the salsa music on the recap
Thanks for the giggles. Cool video.

Just an awesome video. Thanks.

You the man Chris!! Great video

Yes, the cups are decent but getting the stove and fuel in there was a biggie for me...adding them to the car camp set up is a good idea! Thanks!
I poked a hole in the plastic tab with a hot nail near the top and with the handle over the lid, you can suspend the cup from a tripod. If/when the tab melts I will use your keyring idea. Thanks.
Nests well with the pathfinder 25 oz stainless cup and it the cup and the pathfinder stainless alcohol stove fit in the condor h2o bagl
I have already ordered the MSR alu.relector and MSR salt and pepper shaker!Tnx for the video explanation!Mody
good things to have for your cooking!
They have them at Amazon for $8.59 with Coupon on Amazon right now! I got 3 more sets.
Better grab one (Or more) while you can. I just made a Cook Set for my daughter that's into
Backpacking & she absolutely Loves it. I took the Cups out & put them in my Car Camping Kit.

Nice set up! Yes that is a great price for the Stanley. I enjoy my GSI Java Drip...instant is always in mine as a backup though.
Chris- like your content. Very good for the very basic folks starting out. Down to earth. Peace!
Thank you Greg - appreciated! "Keep Hiking!"
Very good recommendations👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for watching!
you totally remind me of the “wait, theres more!” Guy. 😂
Thanks, Chris. A great video as usual with some great ideas.
This might be the best cooking setup I have ever seen. Well done.
Wow, thanks! I had fun putting it together!
Very well done. I’ve been struggling with what to do for a cook kit, I think this works very well.
Learned a lot in this video. Been researching gear and you were very helpful.
Glad to hear it!
Thanks Duke, I like that the Scotch Brite dries quick/ you can custom cut them to fit your set!
The only problem I have with this (which is what I use) is that the Stanly pot is just a little small for the MSR 2. It will work, just keep an eye on it so it doesn't fall off.
My first a favorite set. I didnt think of the smaller canister and the gsi cup. Well done👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Hay Chris these videos you do are very helpful that msr stand is awesome I will be getting one my self , thanks again keep up the good work 👍
Thank you Graham! Will do!
That was great! Only thing I would add is to put it all on a scale at the end to show the weight. But yeah awesome budget set up for cooking.
Thanks Borg...yes looking at getting a quality digital scale.
Nice video.Thanx!
Awesome! Thank you! I'll have to pick up some Dr Bronners! ( clean my feet and my dishes! )
I'll add that if you're in bear country, get the unscented Dr. Bronner's which is meant for kids/sensitive skin. It has the light blue label. All the others are scented and have to be put in your bear bag/canister.
I've had my MSR kit since the late 90's. And my Primus burner. I call it the Optimus Primus. Mason needs a mess kit. This is a good starting point.
Hi Josh, Optimus is a classic! Glad that was helpful / pick it up at El-Walmarte!
Very good! didn't think that could fit....they look big.
Fits perfect
That was fun and interesting! I think we all learned something new!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!
Too Funny 😮. I have these two items as my only cook set while SUV 🏕️ camping.. I warm up my can soups , etc, and eat from them .. I see folks bring all kinds of cookware , but only use a fraction of it .. SUV setup conversion is extremely simple and functional..

Very welcome!
AMAZING! Just a great helpful video! Thanks!
You're very welcome!
Very, very helpful ! Thank you so much for posting 👍 🇬🇧
Glad it was helpful!
Coffin comment was hilarious. That’s exactly what came to mind right before you said it.

Great video thank you! Could you put the bungee cord going Top to bottom so the lid does not rattle?
Yes you can!
Wildly entertaining and also helpful. But you buried the lead! It wasn't until the end that I noticed the Stanley Lid fits the Ozark cup!!!!
Yes, good to know.
You crack me up. 👍🏻
how do you keep the steam from coming out of the pasta strainer instead of the steam vent?
U always cheerful,u make my day!!
Thank you! Keep Hiking! ( and smiling )
Great video Chris!
Thanks!
Great video. Thank you for sharing
Very Welcome!
That was pretty cool! I am going to get one of these, great video!
Very cool
I'm impressed, chris
Thanks - Keep Hking!
Thanks Chris Loved the Info I love Standley Be Safe Rhino Peace
Great ideas! Subscribed.
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks from Ukraine!
Great review. Just got one of these 2nd hand with a tatonka steel mug and a long-handled spork. Glad i found it because these kits are hard to find in the UK at the moment. I'm storing mine in an old fleece-lined climbing chalk bag. Consider me a new subscriber 😀
Right on!
The best! Really learned a lot from your video.
Glad it was helpful!
That’s a really nice setup. Thanks for sharing!
Very welcome...thanks Mike.
Jet boil canisters same little tight gotta snack a couple time. Probably gonna switch to Coleman.
The Colemans can be picked up at Walmart. That's where I get mine.
That plastic top is also fastened to it with a pin. You can remove it without messing it up.
Good tip!
Spork! That is great!
LOL...Keep Hiking!
Now that wal mart bought moose jaw i cant wait to see what they put out. Great cheap cooking kit.
Can't wait! Thanks! :)
Seen MANY people in videos talk about the green tab melting and replacing it with a key ring. Can't see how that is even possible unless you are using it over a wood-burning fire or have it nestled down in coals or something. A better option than the keyring is a niteize mini carabiner.
The keyring mod works great.
Just feed it partially onto the lid and it'll fold down when you need it to, but also stand up if turned up.
And yes, the tab melt if used in a fire, especially if you turn it sideways and try to bake bread in it.
That's how it goes with camping, though.
How have you been chris?
Hey Calvin, Do all right ...been dealing with the fires and clearing brush. Got a new video coming. Thanks , BCC
marvellous - thanks for that
Welcome!
I'm new to your channel, just this week. This is a great video! Good use of essential cookware in a small space. Thanks! - Eric in IL
Awesome! Thank you!
How long can you use the large fuel canister ?
Nice setup there. I love my Stanley
Thank you...yes I packed it out! Thanks for watching.
Hahahahaha! You crack me up! MSR stand, love! And the ditty bag...I was able to put my kit into a ditty bag as well.

We were 76 below zero in Clear Alaska in 69 or 70. Jim Creek was 82 below.
Can you show us how to clean up all the black smoke after cooking?
if I get some on my kettle....most of my cooking is on my propane stove....so no soot.
Coat in dishwashing/laundry soap (bar or liquid, bar works better) before you put it in the fire. Afterwards, just rinse off.
Very informative!I have one question:Will the MSR windscreen/heat reflector fit my BRS3000t stove?
it's very flexible light weight aluminum I believe...about 7 inches tall... should fit fin.

Pablo Fernando Escamilla O. Si, soy chilanga y a mucha honra.👍🏻👍🏻
I am looking at the Fire-Maple Island Steamer Kit. It could be pretty good. It has a bunch of stuff with it including silverware, cutting board, cups, and you can put your canister in the pot too. They sort of stole some of your ideas. :-)
Sounds great!
Stumbled upon your channel and I am extremely pleased and look forward to enjoying more videos. Thank you!!
