Got mine for $ 7.84. The DZO cup is better and comes with a lid as well and fits both. Another good option is the Pathfinder small cook cup and sleeves over the Stanley set almost directly with less than a 1/2" space at the bottom. This is my preferred setup. Two cook setups that mesh together perfect with lids. You can do a lot with those two.

Pathfinder cup slides over the Stanley and is part of my set. I slide the lids on top of one another and strap it all together with a velcro strap with all the steel wool and can opener, etc. Inside. I like the plastic cups so, I keep them in there with some tea as well. Nice tight little package.

Most expensive that I've found them was $20 at Academy, but I also find them at Wal-Mart for around $15, and on Amazon for as low as around $10.

have had a stanley set for a couple years now. recently accured the esbit cookset w / a alcohol burner. have been playing with the esbit stove & fry pan, along with heating a mre entree & boiling eggs in the stanley. main reason is experimenting on a warm / priming way for the alcohol burner in cold weather.

That Stanley adventure cook set is awesome. I don't use the 2 cups that came with mine though. Instead I put a can of fuel like the one you used, old GI style can opener, a small Gerber folder, small bottle of camp soap, a compressed camp towel (un openned it's about the size of a poker chip) a piece of green scrubby, a BSR 3000 stove and it's nested in a Walmart version of that GSI cup. I also bought a 3 pack of the diddy bags at Walmart and use the smaller if the 3 to store the whole thing in. Everything I could possibly need right there in one package.

At 7:04 in your video you show how the fuel canister drops into the cup. So I bought the stove, cook set, and fuel canister. However my fuel canister doesn't go all the way down. It stops at where the cup slightly shrinks down near the top. I bought a different fuel canister than what you show.
What I bought is a Gas One canister. It has a diameter of 3.553" at its base.
Great video with lots of info - thank you!

I guess all fuel canisters are not created equal...

    • @carmenolivieri279
      @carmenolivieri279 2 года назад

It is true that there are slight differences in the dimensions of isobutane fuel canisters. As you have learned, some have a base diameter that is too large to allow the canister to fit all the way to the bottom of this Stanley cook kit.

  • @lukebramblett66

Kind of a late reply but I’ve recently been playing with a Stanley adventure cook set myself. I learned from waypoint survivals channel that you can separate the green cups from two and make 4. They are double wall cups you just need to carefully saw around the top of each cup to separate them then you’ll have 4 cups that still nest. A little sandpaper and a lighter to clean up the rough edges and then you’ve doubled your cups

    • @FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival
      @FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival  6 месяцев назад

Cool, but I have no need for 4 cups when out in the woods by myself lol

I keep trying to talk myself into changing the cook set, but this really is the best option for me. It's good for 1 or 2 people, so whether I'm solo or not I don't have to swap out systems. The only thing I don't like is that the GSI handles don't work well as a coffee mug, but I also like the flexibility of the pot handles.

Yeah, it’s been the core of my one man grab and go kit for a while now. It’s cheap, durable and simple.
I put a bandanna around the pot then nest it in the cup then put the whole thing in a cut off cotton sock with a stainless steel fork and spoon. Solid, cheap and easy.
The bandanna has a lot of uses.
I’ll lay it out as a mat for stuff while I’m getting ready to cook, fold it to use as a pad for grabbing handles, cleaning up, pre-filtering and boiling water, etc…

My fravorite kit, by far, is the military canteen cook set, but I've really enjoyed the Stanley Kit, as well. Though I am no a lover of the green cups. I don't like plastic in the woods.; But as versatile as the Stanley Kit is, I keep finding even more ways to use the Pathfinder Bottle kit. The complete version that has two cups, two lids, an alcohol burner, a stove, a pot stand, and a fish mouth spreader.
The steel bottle, a cup, a cup lid, and the stove will even fit perfectly in the military canteen cover. And I can hang the cup and/or the bottle over a fire using fish mouth spreaders. This was genius.
I keep clinging to my military canteen cook set out of nostalgia but I've reached the conclusion that this is better because it's really the same thing, only modern.
This also lightens the Orca bag I replaced the Pathfinder bag with considerably. All that remains in it is one cup, one lid, the alcohol burner, and the pot stand. I can even load a stove and fuel into the Stanley, and it slides in perfectly, along with an Esbit stove and cup sit, and still have a large pocket for all sorts of goodies.
But if I'm by myself, I just don't need it all, so the Stanley, the gas and gas stove stay home. It's simply what I need least. I don't much like gas, anyway. It's bad for the environment, it hisses, and I'm simply not in a hurry in the woods. I like slow and easy. But I have a BUNCH of gas stoves, and even stoves that need three types of cannisters, and three kinds of gas. I have no idea why.
Anyway, Stanley has actually fallen to fourth, maybe fifth, in a way, at least when I'm alone because there are so many ways to use the Pathfinder gears than I can make at least three full kits from all the parts, and they all work better for me than the Stanley.

At the end of the video, you show the green cup on bottom, and the canister upside down on top.
A FMS300T Fire Maple fits nicely in the green cup under the canister. Because the canister is tapered, a bail also fits down there. That's what I do. The bail is made from a SS bicycle spoke. 1 green cup + micro stove + bail + gas all fit inside. I did drill 2 small holes at the top of the cook pot for the bail.

I've found that the pot nests even better in a Toaks 750ml ti pot, which I use to heat water, pour into the Stanley pot for whatever I'm making, and heat more water for a drink. I use the Toaks pot as a cup, and the insulated cups stay at home. A trangia & pot stand(cheap knockoff) fit inside the pot along with a lighter and there is still room for more.

For those folk who use Tatonka instead of GSI the pot nests slightly better in a Tatonka mug. The Stanley lid also fits the Tatonka mug. I bought a Pathfinder stainless steel lid for the Tatonka mug but it (the lid) was slightly too big. It does, however fit the Stanley pot so if you wanted to do a mod and fit a bale to the pot, swapping the lids is the solution and you wouldn't have to modify the lid as it already has two cut outs to accommodate the bale. I have replaced the melty handle ( if it gets inadvertantly to hot) and replaced it with a KEY RING...this enables you to use a stick to lift lid when hot or during boiling.
The green button handle can melt if 🔥 gets a bit too big. A great cooking pot! Ive been using mine daily for instant coffee, and sometimes for soups. A survivalist needs a cooking pot for purifying water. The lid...I've used for a miniature plate for fruit, avocado, a roll, doughnut, etc.
I have one and I love it...fits in my back pack great. If you really want to trick it...drill holes at handle lip and opposite side for bailing wire, then you can have ability to hang it near hammock. The bailing wire can be folded under the stanly bottom or nested cup for storage which holds cup in place.😜 A cup fits lid.
Let bailing wire fall away from your nose as you drink.

I like to drop 1 green cup into the bottom, add a brs 3000 stove with a lighter and whatever else fits into your green cup. Then add a small fuel canister upside-down and it all fits.

I bought this cook set in the UK... Love it...., BUT.. be aware the small 100g Coleman gas canister does not fit inside the pot.

You can also take a few paper cups, drink from them, and burn them in your fire. Light weight, no frills.

Hello, I'm from Brazil and I loved your video with these valuable tips! Congratulations! I was wondering which GSI Outdoors Glacier Pot to buy: the 20 oz or the 24 oz so it fits so well in the Stanley pot. Thank you very much and congratulations again for the video! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

My go to is my Stanley set. I carry it with 1 green cup with my BRS stove in it and gas can up side down and an Ozark cup same size as GSI cup nested

Well here I been wondering what happened to ya and your right here as always. RUclips hasn't been giving me notifications and I found I had been unsubscribed from some that I hadn't but I came over and it shows I am still subscribed and the bell is on 🤔
Anyway, yes I love my Stanley cook set and it definitely has lots of options and easy to pack along. But then so does the wonderful CC.
Good to see ya and hope your safe down your way.

But but but...you can usually go to Walmart in the camping section and pick one up right away for $14.97 plus tax and no shipping costs...lol. That's how I got all of mine...and I tell you what, it even cooks pizza. Well at least I think it does, I'm shooting a video today to find out...I will either win, lose, or go back to the coloring book...lol. Fun Fun Fun...Wow Weeeeee!

I tried to like this kit but I couldn't, gave it to my son. I needed a man size pot so I got the 2 bowl cook kit. That pot does more and better. Coupled with the mountain cook kit just for water boiling for cocoa or coffee my mess kit is a beast and pretty light too ..but then again I'm 63 270 I built like an ox. I can carry more then the average guy
