How to get to Heathrow Airport from London

- Is the new Elizabeth Line the best way to Heathrow Airport? What's the fastest and cheapest way to Heathrow Airport from London? I ride the new Elizabeth Underground Line from Kings Cross via Farringdon to Terminal 3 and compare it to the Heathrow Express and the Piccadilly Line services from London to Heathrow.
Filmed on a Saturday morning so some of the numbers may change if you're traveling during the week, but this video shows you what you get if you travel on the Elizabeth Line from London and how much you'd be likely to pay.
You could have made this easier still, go straight over the road to St Pancras, catch a Thameslink service one stop south to Farringdon and then head straight downstairs to the Elizabeth line platforms. Also no need to exit / re enter the gateline at Farringdon, the system will know it’s one continuous journey and automatically charge you the cheapest fare :)
Was in London a few weeks back and took the Elizabeth line. Half the cost of the Express, and as I still had to get into a slightly more central part of London the Elizabeth line was ideal. If you're in a rush the Express is good but the Elizabeth line is big, fresh, clean and still quicker than the more traditional tube I took 7 years ago
Yeah that's a really good summary. Depends on whether cost or time are the priority, but I agree the Elizabeth Line is a bit of a nicer (and newer) experience than the Piccadilly Line.
Or... you could have just caught the Piccadilly Line from King's Cross without any changes, and it would also have taken you 1 hour.
If u have more than 2 luggages it would be hard since it would be crammed and small
@@abuharith7387I’ve done it with big bags, no problem early on a Saturday morning as was the case in the video
I was thinking the same thing. I have stayed at Earls Court a couple of times & it’s so easy. Getting an quiet train is not that hard either.
Top Tip, Heathrow express is significantly cheaper if you book online. So if you know you are going to the UK you can usually get a ticket for £15-20. Still more expensive.
As you said though it really depends where in London you are. Lizzy is good if you are near it. The other thing to be aware of is if you want the BA terminal it can take longer to get there.
I book ahead and paid GBP5.50
I reckon you can get a round trip ticket for 11-13 quid if you book in advance.
I commuted by car to LHR 5 or 6 days a week for over 20 years, I used to dream of doing the 25 mile trip in an hour and 5 minutes!
Gosh I miss London. I was able to get a Heathrow Express tickets to Paddington on my last trip for BGP8.80 by booking in advance.
Camden Town, which is one stop north of Kings Cross changing at Leicester sq for Heathrow, takes exactly a hour.
As someone who is dairy free (and therefore book a VGML on flights) I know too well buying and packing the backup food prior to boarding ;) Just remember if you don't eat it to throw it out (been there. done that. almost had to pay the fine.)
Wow a train to the Airport, something that is really lacking out at Tulla! 😆
I know right? Luckily we’ll have one soon(ish).
It's quite a while since I was last in London, but when I remember correctly, the Picadilly Line doesen't take that much longer.
I live in Seven Dials London (WC2H) at the midpoint btwn Leicester Square [Piccadilly] and Tottenham Court [Elizabeth] and yeah its about the same for me, 50-60min... go with whatever station is closest btwn the two.
Fares recently rised to 5.60£ for the piccadilly line and to 13.30£ for the Elizabeth line anytime, the Heathrow Express is still 25£
By your express ticket ahead and know your day of travel it is a heck of a lot cheaper, fixed date can be purchased for 5.50 pound
Really enjoyed these sorts of vids Stefan. It’s great there’s so many options unlike Melbourne 😂❤
Didn’t actually know there was a price difference between the Elizabeth line and Piccadilly (despite taking the train there multiple times over the last 3 days). Guess you don’t notice with Apple Pay.
I’d say the biggest Elizabeth benefit over Piccadilly, that’s totally worth the cost, is the air conditioning in summer! Peak hour Piccadilly is unpleasant to say the least…especially with bags 😅
Air conditioning on the Underground is a big point of difference, good point. I took a Northern Line train in Summer the other day, I forgot what an experience that was!
Good video. I'd have jumped on the tube from Kings Cross. Straight shot to Heathrow. That's just me as a Londoner though.
I hung out in London for a few days in June and when I booked my hotel part of the decision was how to get there from the airport. Paddington? Elizabeth Line. Earl’s Court? Tube. I opted for Earl’s Court and the Piccadilly Line…
I was going to ask how many services they run but you answered that at 3:40 thanks
TFL (Transport for London) have made the Elizabeth line to Heathrow, a different Price to the rest of the Network.
A Zone 1 (Central London) to Zone 6 should be £5.60.
But Zone 6 Heathrow is priced at £13.30 when using contactless or daily fare.
This is TFL making you pay a premium rate just to get to Heathrow, via Elizabeth Line.
I think tfl have to pay extra to use the Heathrow express line from Hayes as they do not own it.
You could have greatly reduced your overall journey time by using Lift D at Farringdon from the the Circle, H&C, Met, and Thameslink Lines direct to the LizPurp platforms level.
Alternatively, you could have travelled Westbound from KingsX/StPanc to Paddington and changed to the LizPurp (Low Level) to LHR stations.
There are numerous other route possibilities... these two are the easiest for Non Natives of London.
I took the Tube from Heathrow the very first time I arrived in London, 10 years ago. Can't remember what line it was, but it was from Terminal 4.
It got stuck for almost an hour somewhere, making me late for a meeting!
jsut a heads up - if you book the express more tha 90 days out, its £5.50 each way
It was my first time in London a few days ago, and I took the Piccadilly Line to the airport, wish I saw this video first😂
Crazy how nice those Stations are, I know most of them are new but elevators in Philly are unusable almost immediately. Homeless use the elevators to sleep in and most of them smell like piss.
Next time you are in London try measuring the time it takes to get from Luton to the city centre. 😉 I wonder if it is possible to fly with a GA plane into there?
Oh that’s a good challenge. Nice idea, thanks.
Missing my Elizabeth line train rides! :/
Interesting, not much in it when using the Piccadilly line from Kings Cross in terms of time.
Me, its Hi London England in 12 days time ( also from Melbourne ! )
Have a great trip
Welcome to london. Uber would be around £35 but if flying business why care about cost
Is it easy if you’ve got quite a bit of luggage and elderly passenger??
next time you will find a direct link to Lizzy line without leaving the station
Elizabeth line is better underground piccdilly line but non tfl Heathrow express more expensive.
Or you could have prepaid for the Heathrow Express like we did and it was cheap. Why waste time.?
Technically, Heathrow is in London....
Co-incidence your watch says 7:47 or is it always set at that time?!
Honestly, a coincidence. But it is my favourite minute of the day!
Interesting you started your trip at 7:47......
Ha I noticed that in the edit! Not intentional, just fate I guess ✈️
Heathrow Express is quickest, but expensive! Elizabeth Line is a rip off, it should just be a regular fare!
Heathrow Airport owns the tunnels between Hayes & Harlington and Heathrow. They charge very high access charges for the Elizabeth Line which TfL has to cover with higher fares.
Tube is 1 hour 7 minutes and costs £5.60 from kings cross.
@@Avgeek1564 Yes. TfL OWNS the Piccadilly Line tunnels so they can charge what they like. The mainline tunnels that the Elizabeth Line uses are OWNED by Heathrow Airport itself, and they charge a lot of money to TfL for the use of the tunnels for the Elizabeth line, hence it is more expensive
I just use the Picc and save 7 quid.

piCCadilly line.
The tube 🚇 to Heathrow Airport ❤❤❤❤ 4:38
