    Being so “concerned” about not being modest because she’s “so good looking and will make people lust” is just as prideful as wearing short shorts for attention. It’s all about the mindset. It’s not wrong to Wear comfy tight clothes so you can move in an athletic way
    I used to try this whole modesty thing and prayed about it and realized I felt more shamed sitting there anxious about what to wear in public rather than just trusting that gospel saves me rather I wear tight clothes or not. Milena and Brittany still can’t get over themselves or how good they wanna look that’s the root of this whole thing.

      I think it’s difficult to make a statement like that when we don’t know Milenas heart. Only her and the Lord do. She doesn’t have to think she is good-looking, she may just feel that tight clothing draws attention to her body. I say this lovingly because I have been there, but we should be careful not to let jealousy of other people make us judge them. You are just as beautiful and stunning as Milena, and so am I. God created us all. If God convicts someone’s heart (he has mine!) about certain clothing, it’s not our responsibility to judge that. I hope this made sense and God bless you🙏🏻

    I just dont see how this conversation is any different from “worldly” girls obsessed with fashion. It’s just hard to see this as anything other than a shift in aesthetic, rather than a genuine shift in perspective. They’re still micro-analyzing their appearance and making it a focal point of their identity.

    • @melissashiels7838
      @melissashiels7838 2 месяца назад

      EXACTLY! They are still obsessing about what to wear, what to purge, what to buy new. It's consumerism with a gloss of 'god'.
      Plus, B-Dawg retroactively saying she never truly felt confident wearing tight/revealing clothes before she was a Christian reads as very convenient (for the sake of her new brand) to me. She has a history of an ED - OF COURSE she didn't always feel confident while out in public, wearing revealing clothing - she had/has a mental disorder that makes her obsess about her body image and what others think of her. Maybe that has more to do with any lack of confidence she felt that whether she was wearing a crop top.

    Something about this whole modesty discussion is just so boring. I'm not religious but I dress quite modestly. Partly because I don't feel super comfortable in my body and partly due to sensory issues from autism, and billowy robe type garments just make me feel nice :) I've never even really thought about it, it's just what I feel comfortable with. Nobody has ever said anything, I'm not getting weird looks or comments, it's just a complete non-issue. It boggles my mind how these women can talk about this for hours and pretend like it's this big thing. Wear what you want, who cares?
    Also, when Milena was explaining her "journey" all I could think of was "girl, you got radicalised". Perhaps it's an extreme term but that's what it sounded like to me.

The obsession with appearances and a false show of humility in these legalistic churches is so offputting and unchristlike. Left the institutional churches 2 years ago, and never looked back. Theyre really no different than the secular world they hate, they just believe theyre the righteous ones.

    Their narrative about fitness clothes bothers me on multiple levels. First, I fully agree with you that it’s on other people to control themselves. They’re setting up people to believe it’s their fault for wearing leggings or whatever item that they were harassed or assaulted or even just stared at. Secondly, work out clothes are tight for a reason, it’s not just to look good. Wearing baggy clothes to the gym is a hazard.

    • @somuchlovex3
      @somuchlovex3 2 месяца назад +7

      I agree. I did this whole modesty thing and tried to work out and realized it was more shaming to conceal and I was overheating from all the layers. Girl just wear a shirt and shorts and work out. That’s healthier than sitting there so anxious about what you wear
      Plus staying so concerned about how much you “trap” people with your looks if you don’t dress modest is just as prideful as wearing short shorts to get attention. It’s from the mindset

      I think this is a naive take. Leggings with your whole bum out are sexual in nature because your sexual stuff is visible. Modesty is for your own protection. You couldn't imagine what type of thoughts go through mens minds when they see your peach. It's not your fault but why would you want to Subject yourself to a random gross man's imagination. Why are you giving him visual access to the intimate details of your body?

      By the way not giving your husband sex is like stealing from him as said in the bible we are not to deny our husbands of pleasure and vise versa (1 Corinthians 7:2-5) This is so that they may not struggle, that is the reason we are here for, to help them and for them to help us, obviously sex isn’t everything, we are also to help them spiritually, mentally, emotionally etc. but it does play a big role in a marriage. When we said yes at the altar, it is saying yes to no longer being selfish, a true women of God won’t be forced to do this but will willingly be gladly to be a good wife for her husband. If for some reason you don’t want to have sex at one point, you’re not forced to either, as long as it’s a mutual agreement. I just don’t understand when women/men aren’t intimate with their partners and then wonder why they feel like there is no love in the marriage , or wonder why they got cheated on. However if sex is all your husband wants and is a constant issue, that is a big problem that he has to fix and the wife is not obligated to support him on that.

    • @hanatemonstas4485
      @hanatemonstas4485 2 месяца назад +3

      So in other words: instead of handling it like rational, mature adult, your partner should give into your tantrums because your parents never taught you impulse control.
      When you say yes at the alter for not being selfish, that includes imposing your will onto your partner. If you made your partner buy you a drink, your partner isn’t being selfish by telling you no. It’s you expecting them to give in to your hedonistic wishes. You can’t twist words to mean something they don’t.
      I just don’t when understand men/women neglect their partner’s personal and emotional needs and expect them to cater to their every selfish whim, yet get surprised when their partner can no muster the will to be intimate or wonder why they divorced them.

    The "men like dresses" as a modest choice is so funny to me because it reminds me of a Reddit post where someone asked "what clothes men like on women" and many of guys said sundresses. When asked why, the replies were because its flowy and feminine but also how you can "see the silhouette of her curves in the right light" , how "ease of access" it is , "its modest yet titillating" , "hides but leaves to the imagination", "when it's windy", etc. It was treated as cute and innocent in the original post but in another post about that post, a lot of women were creeped out how s*xualizing those responses were, especially for a comfy piece of clothing that is generally so modest and what a lot women usually wear not to be deliberately s*xy (and yet guys still do it anyways).
    Obviously not shaming Milena for her preference in clothing (the onus is still on the guys' thoughts), but between the "wearing a long white dress while shopping at Rona and getting male attention", and the "wearing modest clothes all day makes the guy hot and bother so when they have s*x, it's like unwrapping a present", it goes to show it doesn't matter what a woman wears, guys will still s*xualize women and modest clothing can still draw male attention. The flowy multiple layers and "unwrapping a present" in particular feels like it hits on the "women should conceal their heart by her clothes so that man can find God with her" ergo "women like to be chased, men like to chase" which can slip into power dynamics. That is the closest reasoning I can see how guys find modest feminine clothes "s*xy", paradoxically enough. Not to say flowy feminine fashion is bad, but it truly feels like a lose lose situation.

Milena said that her dressing more modestly has her husband thinking about her body almost more than he did before - from lack of skin! So my takeaway from this is: no matter what women do, no matter how we dress or how much or how little skin we show, men will still think about our bodies. So with that said, shouldn’t we just be free of shame and remove men from the equation completely? Let them think what they think, we can’t change that!
    100% agree with her on the limiting consumerism, being mindful and buying quality pieces, and trying to limit how much mental energy is focused on appearance and trends.

    One thing that has always frustrated me with Milena’s modesty message is that she will constantly say that modesty is her OWN personal conviction. But then she talks about other girls not being modest (according to her standard) and act as if that is the goal they should be wanting to achieve. At that point, it isn’t a personal conviction - it’s a guideline to faith. She ultimately wants women to feel shame for not having the same standard of modesty as her and thinks it should change.

It’s a delight to keep up with the wild fundies through you. so many of them nitpick out-of-context scripture and use it to spread hate (in the name of Jesus, no less!) so it’s always a delight to hear your take on things because of the way you use compassion, love, and some common sense. Fingers crossed Bdawn finishes the entire Bible this year and finally gets to the love, compassion, and kindness parts. 😉

    So many thoughts…
    Why are these Christian influencers never convicted by the verses that say it’s important to give your possessions away and live in poverty?
    She wasn’t convicted after baby 1 or 2…but after 3 babies she felt the need to dress modest? As someone whose 3rd baby did my body in, this seems like awfully convenient timing… but maybe I’m reading into it.
    Brittany has never said so little, and it’s cracking me up.

    So I just went and looked at her Instagram. Her outfits are really well put together, accessorized, cool boots - looks like it would take more time than I spend putting on jeans and a sweater. I’m not criticizing that at all - she looks great (not my style, but I can appreciate it).
    I guess I just question the assertion that it’s to be quick and simple and to not get attention.
    I would still look at her and think “cool shoes, nice outfit!” Modest, sure - but not for any attention? Eh….
    (And if you’re putting your outfits on the internet - are you not worried about what people think?)
    I dunno. Just be honest - I like dresses, they’re modest, I like how I look in the outfits…it’s not that deep

    2. I’m genuinely not sure if some of those are “convictions” or if they’re just busy and not spending on luxuries.
    3. Also…the Botox slander. While it IS used for cosmetic purposes, there are also medical uses. There’s success for using it with tension headaches and TMJ. I don’t know why you’d need to feel conviction over a medication…but I always had pretty out there ideas about medications for fundie circles, apparently.

    I'm convinced now that Brittany is trying to move into her "trad wife" era. I suspected it when she talked about getting a farm and all the animals she wants to have (which I hope she doesn't, given her track record with other living beings). I think she's going to migrate towards Milena's style so she can look the part and this is her way of introducing it to her audience and trying to convince herself that this is the direction she wants to go in.
    A part of me doubts that she will fully embrace all aspects of tradwifery, because her life has been so different from a lot of what most trad wives present online. I also don't think she would enjoy all of it, but I'm curious to see how far she'll take it.

    And she said it! I was thinking that her wearing clothes that made her feel good in front of children was a good thing. She was telling that daughter her body is good and worthy. Then she said it, "if my husband is thinking about my butt then Joe...." That is the problem! Men can and should learn to control their selves. Women are not objects of lust. It is ridiculous and I am tired of this bs. Women can and should wear what they want, feel good in, and comfortable. I am tired of "r" culture. My young nieces deserve better!

  • @MeganMichelle
    @MeganMichelle 2 месяца назад +2

    There was so much contradiction in this conversation. They never actually defined what is and is not considered modest, and so many of their points were strictly personal issues rather than biblically based teachings.
    They mentioned feeling uncomfortable in anything form fitting. Not everyone feels uncomfortable in form fitting clothing. They also implied that dresses are somehow the standard for modesty, yet they also said it’s all about personal style? And that every person has different convictions, but essentially it’s implied that their way is the right way, but no one is wrong? Which is it?
    And it really bothered me when Brittany said form fitting workout sets are inappropriate, but she still wears them sometimes which is okay because she’s on a journey. Girl, stop it right now. That’s a load of excuses and hypocrisy. If it’s wrong, don’t wear it. End of story.

    The comment about her husband wouldn’t stop touching her😅 Let me preface by saying I don’t mind being touched at all, and my husband knows that. But honestly my husband loves to always be touching me no matter what I wear, so that’s a not a fair assessment. He is also always complimentary even when I perceive myself as looking like a wreck. So by that logic I wouldn’t be able to leave the house in anything😅I mean sure there’s things he loves more, but what if it’s flattering? It’s just such a weird justification to not wear something.

    I appreciate Milena's point on the "anyone, girl or not, telling another girl something is immodest isn't advisable". She is right there is usually a misplaced sense of superiority and pride that you often see when people do that, and it can have the opposite effect in that people slow down or go the other direction (the '5 steps back instead of 3 steps forwards' analogy she used). Decisions feel more meaningful when done of your own will and not what Morgan at the gym thinks about how you are effecting her husband. That and her productive re-framing of "maybe if you add this, it will look more modest" rather than put down what they have, *if* someone does ask for advice on how to make something more modest.

  • @deejbaby
    @deejbaby 2 месяца назад +2

    In the gym lately I’ve been wearing giant (on me) sweats (2xl. My waist is about 30” for reference, so I mean it when I say these aren’t even “cute” baggy clothes. I am swimming in them.) I train on a body building split, and as I lean down this season I’m getting more and more attention. sometimes I just don’t have the bandwidth to talk to people who have questions etc (as they have seen my body change so “quickly” during this cut). People are curious and kind, and honestly very complimentary, but I’ve been going through a lot with life and need to decompress during training. Im introverted anyway AND on a time schedule at the gym, so wearing large clothing helps mitigate chatter. Anyway- I was wearing oversized sweats and a 2xl shirt as well. A guy came up to me and told me, well. Really obscene things about how I look like I need to be fxxxxx and what he wants to do me. 😩 I was so shocked. I had no clue what to say. I didn’t say anything!!! I was sick to my stomach. He walked away after being awkward for a minute and I turned around and kept training while I was disassociating.
    So, NO Brittany and Milena, you (unfortunately) cannot control other people’s thoughts about your body. In my experience- I get harassed when I am dressed in oversized clothing WAY MORE than I ever am when I’m wearing flattering clothing.
    I think it’s bc in oversized clothes people assume I have low self esteem and will tolerate harassment. When I’m dressed well I exude confidence- which isn’t a great target for those looking to assault.

Even at my “thinnest” in the past five years, the butt did not go anywhere! So I’m not going to worry and fret about finding the baggiest, loosest pants/dresses to hide my figure. Milena's journey sounds a little more like a busy mom whose body changed, and wants a more simplistic wardrobe of things that suit her life and body. I think many of us experience it in one form of another. Not necessarily for the purpose of modestly, but you may go from a closest full of blouses and sweaters to a closet full of t-shirts and sweats that you don't have to think about, and it masks the shape you might not feel confident about. Same thing with nails and such. It's quite common to go more simplistic when you've got little kids to care for. I'm interested to see if her style or opinions change in 10 or 15 years as her kids age, and she may decide she does want more time for herself.
