    The Emperor telling you to kill Minsc was the reddest of flags.

    • @maksymisaiev1828
      @maksymisaiev1828 11 месяцев назад +12

      I think the point there is that the Emperor is just chess player. A bit dumb martial fighter won't play a huge role anyway. So it was choice between:
      - Spend even more power from the Emperor to save Minsc from the Elderbrain, while being very close to it.
      - Kill Minsc, which means, that we kinda free him from suffering (and possible mindlfayer staff) and don't spend extra resources.
      None of this choices play any positive role in the end result. Yeah, we can make Minsc part of our party, but counting his character it will be quite few gain for huge effort. We have much more powerful allies in form of all saved tieflings on top of support from city and monster hunters. So no real red flag, unless you just mark Illithids as evil by default.
      That is opinion based on BG3 story only, I didn't play other games, so don't know which role Minsc played earlier.

      @@maksymisaiev1828 You don't have to have played Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 to know Minsc is a hero along with Jaheira. Passing what should be an easy history check, the game tells you how the two (along with other companions) saved the city in more than one ocassion (twice at least)
      The reason why he sees him as a threat is because Minsc's case is similar, if not the same as the gnoll warlord in act 1, whose tadpole was having a hard time controlling its mind because of how dense and simple-minded they can be since it is more of a beast than an "intelligent" humanoid creature.
      If you check Minsc mental stats, they are all below 10 (mind you, in DnD 10 is the average stat of a normal human, so Minsc having around like 8 and 6 in INT, WIS and CHA reflects how much of a dimwit he is), meaning he is not the adequate individual to tadpole and control and the sole reason they managed to keep him in check is because of the doppleganger impersonating Jaheira. There is a reason why mindflayer infect intelligent humanoids like human and elves and as we all know, Minsc is anything but intelligent.

    The wild part is how op invisibility is, you can literally bypass somethings in this game. Save volo without having to worry about the fire, just have someone be invisible and stand next to him or free him before cutscene triggers.
    You can even skip like the whole kethric fight and just fight the avatar of myrkul, you need to find all the letters and notes from the main floor of moonrise, same floor as balthazaars room, when you free nightsong and then confront kethric you can persuade him to surrender and not even fight him till you get to the mind flayer colony below, and LITERALLY INVISIBILITY TO NIGHTSONG before confronting kethric, and then you keep sweet talkin the dude to make him force surrender himself to myrkul, bro this game is wild on the ways to tackle a situation.

      Astarion absolutely recoils at the mere idea of taking the astral tadpole if you ask him. He isn't all about wanting power. He tells you he was traumatized enough when he was turned into a vampire and felt his body transforming against his will, and he doesn't want to turn into a half-illithid. If you're cruel you can force him, by interfacing with his mind via the tadpole and unearthing his _worst_ memory of what Cazador did to him (The Year of Hell) and blackmail him with it, telling him he needs to get stronger to face Cazador and the tadpole is the only way, then he will reluctantly take it, but it traumatized him further.

    i appreciate you actually including astarion in this vid, unlike the last 1, & i completely agree that letting him ascend is the worst possible decision ever, though i'd say that even worse than the 7000 deaths is the fact that it turns him into a completely different character with no soul, no emotions, no capacity to love, no chance at redemption, ever, & it's even more horrifying if you're romancing him because it changes the entire relationship from 2 ppl in love to an abusive, posessive hellscape where he treats you just the way cazador treated him for 2 centuries, which was what he had always hated from the moment you meet him, & turning him into that is just nauseating. though i don't know if 'completely unhinged' is the term i'd use; he's terrified in the face of his abuser, blinded & intoxicated by the thought of finally becoming powerful enough to never be hurt again, that is what the narrator says when you pass the insight check. & if you actually DO stop him, he approves of the choice & thanks you profusely the next day for believing he could be better & that he could stop centuries of abuse, instead of just repeating it again

With Cazador dead, he's going to get to live better and that's amazing! By ascending him, you're killing his soul. I honestly can't fathom being okay with the changes in him if you romanced him, unless all you cared about was fetishizing his vampirism. The man who earnestly told you he thinks you're incredible is dead and someone who looks like him and thinks of you as his little pet has taken his place.

    Some of the bad choices in the game are so abrupt that they catch me super off guard. Like betraying Shadowheart, I wouldn't have imagined that agreeing would just end her role in the story. There's room for lots of interesting stuff to happen if Shadowheart rejoins the Sharrans, and I went to some lengths in my first playthrough to keep her Sharran, so I was pretty disappointed that I couldn't side with them and still keep Shadowheart.

    If you play _as_ Astarion in a companion run, he does get far more powers from his Ascension than just an upgraded bite plus Cazador's staff. He can summon creatures in the final battle and other stuff. Larian probably didn't put that in if Astarion is a companion, because it might unbalance the game compared to the other companions. But yeah, from a roleplaying standpoint he tainted his soul by destroying all those souls (and Mephistopheles who gave the ritual to Cazador might come collecting one day).

    Interesting: my solution to the Cazador fight didn’t trigger that bit about Astarion being tempted to ascend. In my first two attempts at that battle my party narrowly lost. In my third attempt, I switched things up by foregoing the dialogue scene and just attacking Cazador as soon as we were within range (which has the benefit of keeping Astarion in the fight instead of having him captured in the cut scene). Also during that attempt, I targeted and killed one of Astarion’s bound-up siblings, because I thought maybe that would break Cazador’s ritual. I’m not sure if it had any effect, because in that run I also got kind of lucky and killed Cazador early enough that he didn’t have time to complete the ritual anyway. We won on that run, and after the battle the cut scene was only about Astarion’s amazement at being free and the weighty choice of whether to free or destroy the imprisoned vampire spawn. There was nothing there abou Astarion wanting to take over the ritual. I wonder if that was because I attacked without talking to Cazador, or because I made the ritual impossible by killing one of the bound vampires, or both.

    • @CitronnelleCiphy
      @CitronnelleCiphy 11 месяцев назад +1

    Dame Aylin: "I'm here to help you. My sword is here for you. Just speak your word and you shall have it at your side!"
    Tav: "Okay, help me."
    Dame Aylin: "I'm here to help you. My sword is here for you. Just speak your word and you shall have it at your side!"
    Tav: "You're not a real companion, are you?"
    Dame Aylin: "I'm here to help you. My sword is here for you. Just speak your word and you shall have it!"
    Tav: "You're just going to recycle that one line for the rest of the game, are you?"
    Dame Aylin: "I'm here to help you. My sword is here for you. Just speak your word and you shall have it!"
    Honestly, screw her, if she's just gonna freeload and make out with Isobel at my camp for the rest of the game, betraying her at least makes her somewhat useful to someone. It's the best choice really and it contributes to you saving the world, honestly...

    The Minsc one has a flip side. At one point during the Dark Urge storyline, you will be confronted by Minsc and his fellow warriors due to your actions (if you play the hero, they'll instead be incredibly happy with you). At this point, passing a skill check will make you take over Minsc's mind and force him to kill his blonde haired ally. He will naturally be horrifically upset and enraged by your actions, but it takes one less soul out of the coming fight.
    But, again, you are literally taking a kind hearted heroic barbarian and making him unwillingly and brutally impale his long time companion through the heart. It's a VERY cruel thing to do.

    My astarion gave a complelty different speach, praising the silence of not being hungry and then comroderating us for helping him. Only dark thing he talks about is building up a new thrall army but hey, vampires amirite.
    And he gets more than an upgraded vampire bite, all of his melee attacks deal an extra 1d10 necrotic damage.

    I think both choises in Astarions quest are bad. On one hand you have Astarion go crazy, and one the other you release 9000 vampire spawns unto the world.

      you can reject the ritual and kill the 6993 non-main spawn

    • @lisdraconis2212
      @lisdraconis2212 Год назад +1

      There are more nuances. You can reject the ritual and just Astarion's 6 vampire siblings stay alive. Realeasing the other 6993 spawns is a different matter.

    • @vince4503
      @vince4503 Год назад +2

      if you loot his corpse he got several bombs to enhance steel watchers abilities, without them the fight totally easy. Just him and 2 or 3 people in the room (granted you destroyed the foundry first)
