    Have IONIQ 5 SEL 2023. Never had any trouble with ICCU or Fuse or charging 12 volt battery.Mine was just updated by dealer.
    So I’m good for now. Enjoying car!

    I had a “stop vehicle and check power supply” failure light on Sunday. I immediately stopped, and since I was less than a mile from home I drove home. I had 95% power on main battery. Note that I had had the ICCU software update and inspection about a month ago nevertheless, I turn my car off. the next morning had the same issues except for the 12 V battery was completely dead and the car was undrivable. Ioniq five died in neutral and I was on a hill, so had to call a friend to come and put blocks under my wheels before I could get out of the car safely. is now been safely towed to our local dealer who has ordered the ICCU part which takes an additional three days from order time to arrive. The dealer was kind enough to lend me an ionic six because I have multiple appointments during the week. so yes, even though I had an inspection conducted and a software update at 19,000 miles of high satisfaction driving within 500 miles later the ICCU failed. I’m thinking that the software update doesn’t really prevent/protect from the mechanical breakdown of the ICCU?

    • @TheIoniqGuy
      @TheIoniqGuy  Месяц назад +1

      Sorry to hear that! Yeah, I don't think it does. With the previous poorly functioning software, the damage was already done to the ICCU and it was just a matter of time. I think some folks will just get lucky and never experience it while others will.

    I had the recall done on my 2024 Ioniq 5 Limited AWD a couple of weeks ago. They didn't find any DTC and thus didn't need to replace my ICCU, just do a new software download. I haven't noticed any differences, but perhaps (?) my guess-o-meter isn't make such wild guesses…? So far, that is. We'll see. I'm just glad that Hyundai is proactive in supporting its vehicles -and its customers.

    I've owned my Ioniq 5 in the UK for 7 months and had the ICCU hardware and software recall completed shortly after handover. The confusing issue with the recall is the number of owners who have reported ICCU failure after the recall was completed. In a number of cases replaced ICCUs have gone on to also fail, indicating the ICCU in it's current form isn't fit to do the job it's designed to do and there's suggestion that Hyundai are completing software updates to choke back on ICCU performance to reduce heat build up. In addition to the heating issue there have been a number of ICCUs fail due to coolant leaking inside the ICCU, it's clear that the ICCU isn't fit for purpose and Hyundai are trying to mask the issue with software updates which isn't the answer.

    2023 IONIQ 5 Limited here. I did not have the ICCU failure, but about 2 weeks ago the 12V completely died when parked in my garage. This happened twice, and I quickly took it into the dealership to have the recall SW installed. This was done, but a week later, I have had two more events where the 12V just dies. Have another appointment with the dealership on 4/16, so we'll see. They probably did not see the DTC code, so no other fixes were done - just the SW update installed (took them 40~ minutes). More to come.

    My 2022 Ioniq5 SEL failed me 70 miles away from home on a cold rainy night when it would not charge, neither DC nor AC. Hyundai roadside assist towed it to a nearby dealer the next day. They initially said something was draining the 12 volt but couldn’t find what it was. They ended up replacing my ICCU and air-conditioning compressor. It took 9 days for all that, and I asked if they replaced the 12 volt also; they said no because it tested ok…
    10 days later the 12 volt died in my garage, and I had to use Hyundai roadside assist again. My local dealer spent 2 days determining the 12 volt had to be replaced!
    It sucks to be an early adopter…I paid $57k for an unreliable vehicle.

    • @ronnelson06824
      @ronnelson06824 2 месяца назад +1

      It is an adventure and I only paid US$45,200 out the door and net of incentives ............'22 SEL RWD ....but the most I ever even considered paying for a car. I did expect 25 years of trouble free ish driving and low/no maint and low fuel cost. I am retired and really don't mind being a guinea pig as long as they give me I5s or equiv. for free loaner while they figure this shit out. I went solar in 2012 and absolutely no issues ever - besides free electricity and clean sunray power for my EVs.
      56k miles and 26 mos. and still lovin it. I really want all fossil fuels to stop being burned and I want to lead by example. AND I kinda like being an early adopter, advocate, ambassador, spokesperson, messanger and promoter.
      BTW: I would have a Model 3 from crazy pot smoking freak boy.....but he wanted close to US$15k more than $45.2 K and that was just fucking nuts. The MRS was already considering ending our 36 year partnership cause I spent all that cash on my I5.
      BUT, we all need dependable cars, all the time, cause we got places to go and that is what we expect. NOT an unreliable car.

    This video and past videos on this subject illuminates perhaps 2 reasons why we have not had any issues with 12V charging and no error codes from the ICCU in the March update. We are scheduled for this next update April 25th. Or car is a 2023 Ioniq 5 SEL dual motor.
    1. It is always garaged overnight and we live in a temperate climate in the PNW. Therefore our car has not experienced temperature extremes when sitting for several hours. The only time it sat over night in temps below 30 degrees F was in Rock Springs, WY on a road trip late January 2024. It that instance it was plugged into a L2 Tesla Destination charger at a hotel.
    2. Except for road trips, we charge at home 100% of the time with an L2 charger set at 40 amps whenever SOC drops below 30%. The only time the car dropped below 10% SOC was on above road trip and was recharged at a EOA DC fast charger within minutes. The car has never spent any extended time below 20% SOC.
    I offer this up only as a data point and in no way imply that folks need to manage their charging routines differently. Hyundai absolutely needs to address this ICCU issue so that folks can trust their cars in all normal operating conditions.

    • @SkaBob
      @SkaBob 2 месяца назад +1

      Same for us, we live outside Tacoma WA and charge at home 95% of the time and only fast charge a few times per year on trips. 47k miles and no iccu failure or any other issues yet.

    My 12 v battery in my Ioniq 6 failed after 10.5 months.
    Had the update and the 12v battery failed the next day.
    My battery monitor showed that when I unlocked the car and pushed the start button the 12v battery discharged from over 12.5 v to 7.7v almost immediately, within seconds.
    I jump started it, took it to the dealer.
    They had it for 2 days, it did it for them and showed an internal short in the 12v battery.
    They replaced it immediately and the car has been perfect since.
    Perhaps the ICCU damaged the battery, don’t know.
    Hopefully the update might fix that.
    This is in Australia.
    Very happy with the local dealer.

    Had my update last week but had another error code about the air flaps. Of course, that error code disappeared at the dealer. It was gone for a couple of days so I thought the update had fixed it. When it return the error codes were always there. Went back to the dealer and he says my error code history was over a page long with different errors so he couldn't point out the error (too many errors?). He said to come back when it happens again. The problem is that it now happens every time I start the car. I am going on vacation, so it's not getting fixed anytime soon. I did notice that sometimes one of my air flaps doesn't open but I am not sure this causes all the other errors.

    The ICCU in my GV60 failed 3 weeks after I had the software updated... it happened at a very low speed, while backing out of a parking lot. Just went "pop." It seems to me that high voltage battery charging the 12v battery can also cause the ICCU to fail. I don't know how it can damage the FETs with over-voltage under this scenario...

I always keeps SOC to over 40% and car never sees extreme temps. 26 mos and 56k miles. I have charged my car hundreds of times @ l1 and l2 and l3 (when it was free) and always charged when I wanted to and never cared about 80% or anything for that matter. I aways thought: if they build it, allow it to charge on these diff amps/speeds......The BMS will do whatever to keep it as healthy as possible..........I DO NOT WORRY ABOUT ANY OF THE DOZENS OF BATTERIES IN MY FAMILY'S LIVES........and this battery and BMS should be the best in the house!

    I hope that this is the fix you're talking about but wonder if they'll still be recalling the car in the near future.
    Until now I've had no battery issues, but also never leave the car standing with less than 20% SOC.

    Hyundai ~ “Vehicle started normally to be pulled in. Ran on board battery test, got D00 good battery result. Checked non-sleep controller detection, no stored data. Went to pull vehicle out and it prompted to push start/stop button with key fob, after doing so cluster gave 12V battery low warning. Ran on board battery check with message displayed on cluster and got another pass result. Tested battery with GR8 and found battery at 7.54V. Battery likely has intermittent short condition. Replaced 12V battery, vehicle now operating normally.” If you want me to email you the service record I can. This was before the recall. So a battery can be at 7.54V, pass the diagnostic test and not log the low voltage issue even though the dash is displaying the fault. How can it accurately charge it if it isn’t seen as a diagnostic issue or logged as a fault. I only hope the recall fixed the logic that has a major flaw.

    1. Low SOC
    2. Regen braking

    My 2023 GV60 stopped charging on 2/23/2024. More accurately it would charge for about a minute and then stop. I took it into the dealer on Monday, 2/26, since all Genesis service techs had left Meriden Hyundai/Genesis by the time I discovered the problem late Friday afternoon and they don't work Saturdays.
    Since it is a Genesis, they have provided me with a loaner G70. It is still not fixed and I have no definite date when it will be fixed. I discovered it because I started getting a warning on the car's screen: "A possible condition with your Battery Management System has been detected. A full system check is recommended to be done when convenient. Please contact your local dealership to schedule an appointment." I noticed it would stop charging shortly after the charger was connected. They have not given me any information about what the problem is, but have said they are replacing the main battery. Last week they told me the new battery has arrived after more than 4 weeks, but they're not sure when it will be installed.

    I have an I5 along with my parents. Neither of our ICCUs have completely failed, but we have both had nagging dead 12v battery issues, like many others. This has lead to bring stranded with kids and extra trips to the dealer who refuses to replace the 12v battery because, according to their tests, nothing is wrong with the battery.
    As far as I can tell, no one really knows why these 12v batteries continue to die. Hyundai seems be blaming accessories and 3rd party apps, but this is BS. It surely must be related to the larger issue with the ICCU, no?
    Thank you for your coverage on this important topic.

      When the alerts came on for me, my car was at 71% charge, I was driving 5 min locally at like 35 MPH. On the 5 min drive home, the car wouldn’t go over 20 MPH. The next day when I tried to start it for the tow it was totally dead. So glad I was just driving close by my house and not on a highway!

    We just bought a 2024 Ioniq 5 and dealerships are doing the software update before you leave here. It's against the law to sell the vehicle until this recall software update. Our Ioniq 5 stopped charging after the update and the ICCU needed to be replaced by the dealership. We waited 1 and a half weeks after purchase to get our car.

    Glad I got mine updated at only about 6 weeks into ownership. Maybe my 12V battery has a shot at a somewhat normal service life.
    I am not noticing the light on the dash for 12V system charging nearly as much. My garage is detached, so I have a direct line of sight to the car right from my kitchen. Before the update, I saw it charging most days, I’d say. Since the update, I haven’t seen the light at all.
    The scary part for me, at the moment, is that I didn’t get the physical blade keys at delivery of the vehicle. Still waiting for them to arrive at the dealer. If I had a 12V issue and needed to jump the car, I’m SOL!

      The new key fob design is truly stupid. Why would you remove the ability to store the key in it like with all previous Hyundais? I heard somebody saying that their dealer lost the keys for their car before buying it and then his 12V died and he literally had no way to get into his car.

    • @jefflass699

      @@TheIoniqGuy That fob is the worst. So cheap and lightweight, too. Works fine, but to me, the smaller and more squarely shaped, the better. They could’ve done something cool with the “H” in Morse code instead of shaping it like their logo.
      So whether you choose to add a ‘25 Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, or Kona to your fleet, you get to live with the fob, too. Enjoy!

    Since we in the USA get OTA updates, any known reason why Hyundai doesn't just push out this update for the ICCU? Seems like that would much more cost and time effective for Hyundai, dealerships, and owners!

    • @arniesea
      @arniesea 2 месяца назад

      Because part if the recall is to check for error codes in the ICCU to see if it need to be replaced. That step cannot be done over the air. It is not just a software update.

      There have been at least 2 cases in Canada where very minor damage was done to the protection plate and they couldn’t be sure the battery wasn’t compromised. Hyundai said the warranty was void and they went through insurance. The cars were written off. $60,000 +. I’ll look up the RUclips clip and let you know which to watch. Ionic Guy did a short talk about it in response.

    Roughly speaking, this problem seems to be caused by a low-quality charger. People who know a lot about computers and smartphones never use cheap chargers. Because I know how serious the problem will be.
    Many chargers on the market are made of cheap Chinese parts. Remember how many chargers at electric vehicle charging stations are broken. All such low-quality chargers must be removed. Cheap, low-quality parts made in China should not be used.

      I beleive that the issue with (say) EA is not the parts but the design.
      They need to support so many different types of vehicles at different speeds over (once again as an example) Tesla which has (until recently) only had 2-3 levels of charging supported and nothing as low as 50.
      The interior design of the EA cabinet is so much more complicated than the Tesla. Payment verification is part of it but trying to interrogate the vehicle to see what speed/capacity the battery can take is a huge hurdle to jump.
