    Welllllll i didnt know that i had auto stop until my brother's mechanic fixed my headlamps. There were two wires hanging by the battery terminal. We had no clue what it was so he plugged it up. When i got to a red light, the car cut off. Lo and behold, i have auto stop❓️😱😆
    Had to unplug it because i think it's draining the battery. I had to give myself a jump 3x yesterday. My bro bought the car Used. There were a lot of things the dealer didn't share😢 i covered the wire with electrical tape. So yes you can disconnect the wire under the hood that is attached on the battery or pull the fuse out if you don't want to mess with the wire. The fuse is also attached to the wire🥴
    Best wishes 😘

    I know this is video is about 4 years old now, but for anyone searching how to disable the car turning off when stopped (now 2023), current Equinox models have a button next to the Hazard lights button - it has a capital "A" inside a circular arrow. Pressing that will disable Stop/Start. Unfortunately, it needs to be pressed when first starting the vehicle every trip, but at least you don't have to do anything with the transmission shifter anymore as in this video.

    • @ChevroletGuru
      @ChevroletGuru  4 года назад +1

      There are actually quite a few different reasons for this to happen. The most common on that I have come across is after a tear or two your battery will start to lose some power, if the computer senses 1 volt less power than normal it will not engage the start stop to avoid putting additional strain on the battery

    You can go to the harness that’s located in front of the radiator under the hood, it’s purple and undue the harness and that will permanently keep it from engaging. I’ve heard on some models that the check engine light comes on and stays in until it’s plugged back in, but it’s just a sensor and won’t hurt your vehicle.

      The point I was trying to make is that I was accustomed to doing the L + Push Button route. The sales man told me about it when I bought the car BUT I did (on a couple occasions) neglect to click the + button. I don't know why or how and the guy in the video pooh-poohs the idea that someone would find it "a chore" to flick your thumb (5 times in my case) but it did happen (and more than once). These motors are so quiet that you can't hear them when they are over-reving and you could hurt the motor. My point is that, for $15 you can put that jumper in the hood-latch circuit and forget about it!

      Chevrolet accounted for the extra wear and tear on the starter, if you look at a starter in a 2018 Silverado vs one in the new gen truck you can see that it is a more heavy duty starter to account for the wear on it. You should expect the same life span out of on of the new starters as you would have gotten with an old starter that didnt have start stop tech on it

    When we bought our 2018 Equinox we weren’t even told this feature was on the car, what it meant, etc. we bought it in cold weather and it took almost 2weeks before we realized what was even going on!
    At first, we were upset, felt like it was going to be harder on the starter, battery, etc., but I have since changed my mind.
    I’m not an engineer, aware of technologies that companies have access to and although initially irritated, now it’s not really an issue. The manufacturer states they have starters in these cars they have adapted to this feature, same with battery strain and other parts that we were concerned about.
    So for us, we have decided they likely are the experts. There’s no disable switch because disabling it isn’t recommended. I’m sure lots of people will still choose to disable it but we’re fine with it after researching why it’s there.

    • @ChevroletGuru
      @ChevroletGuru  3 года назад +1

      They did think about all the parts that would take extra wear and tear on the vehicles and incorporated more heavy duty parts. What goes unnoticed by a lot of folks is that start stop tech has been in vehicles since 1998 and even some older models. Toyota has had this feature on a lot of models since 1998. It wasn't something new, I personally just rolled 76k miles on a 16 Malibu and it has not had a single problem, my 01 Taurus I had to change the starter twice in 70k miles. Nothing against the Taurus I am just saying they have thought these things out and have taken all possible means to prevent them. Happy to hear that you are happy with your new vehicle. But I will say that the feature should have been discussed with you prior to the purchase.

    I own one of these and thought too I would hate it but I now have 20K miles on it and the start/stop feature is really not that big of a deal because it is pretty seamless. Yes, I know it may be considered a stupid EPA thing (yes), which has limited value, but GM has done pretty good job of implementing it. I've learned to modulate the brake a little when approaching a light that is "almost" green, and then it wont shut off. Equally, I approach a light that I know I'll be at for awhile and I'll go to right to the spot I'll be at for a minute and it'll stop once. Engine goes down and I stay there until I simply release pressure on the brake and BAM the thing is running WITHOUT hesitation. I've driven some Nissan's, Toyota's, and Jeeps where the software is so hideous and drive-ability stumbles so maybe that's where the "bad rap" comes from.
    Again, is it saving the world? No, but some just need to learn better driving habits and their fuel mileage will skyrocket. It operates entirely without driver intervention, doesn't change drive-ability, and doesn't "hurt" anything (other than your pride?) If it were up to me, I would disable it for my style of driving but I know there are places where it may save a minuscule amount. Remember, its all about that inaccurate EPA number on the showroom window. Minuscule changes sell cars - whether real or not.

      Actually the frequency at which a starter needs to be replaced has gone up, as they now come with a heavy duty starter in the vehicles. I can say on my 2 personal vehicles I have almost 80k on 1 and the other is approaching 50k and neither have had to have one replaced. If your battery shows 1-2 volts less than what is required start stop does not ingauge then so it doesn't wear your battery down if it is getting older
