It's a known fact that officiating anywhere below ATP is atrocious. You should see some of the ridiculous calls: not calling a let when a ballboy runs onto the court mid-point, biased calls, ridiculous warnings, foot faults at set and match points, etc. Most are retired and need something to do, but this shouldn't be it. There's money on the line.

Cool to see the level difference between you and Taschereau. Tasch is obviously a solid player (like a good 5.0) and could possibly win 40% of the points, but 40-60 split of points ends up being a huge differential at this level. And also shows the importance of having a good serve, you just weren't challenged by his serves like he was yours. Awesome stuff.

I´m actually surprised he didn´t shout "cmon let´s go" after your Double Fault leading to the 3:5 in the second set. You could clearly tell he plays College Tennis. Very annoying.
Anyway he played Tennis on a very high Level. He was hitting with really good quality. The match could have shifted into another direction tho if you used one of your Set Points in the first ( but I don´t think I need to tell you that and also I don´t want to rub salt into your wounds ).
Keep it up tho. You know a lot about the highs and lows of Tennis ( as do I ), so keep grinding. I´ve got 3 tournaments in the next 4 weeks and your content always motivates me to keep going when things don´t go as planed.

He's an OSU player who used to play for the biggest HS in Ohio, so he acts this way to always be fired up and get under the opponent's skin. In college they all do this. When it's peoples' livelihoods on the line in tournaments like these it makes the opponent even more mad, but it's part of what makes them win easier so I completely get it. Jordan wasn't a likeable guy... he loved to win and hated to lose and that's what drove him. It's just something pros have to get used to.

When you went up in the first set thought you seem to go into a mode where you just kept the ball in deep and hoped that was enough. That just gave your opponent a nice warm-up, he settled and then his great forehand started to shine. Gotta keep the pressure on and keep them off balance - tbh you don't have the power but you do have the variety so gotta be tricky.

you played great. just on my impression from watching once you were really controlling the first set with approach and volley attacks, had him confused and running. but, seemed like you went away from that and got into a baseline battle in the second set, which I think favors him because he was hitting so clean with few errors. to do that I would at least have tried to make it your forehand against his backhand all the time, the way Rafa did to Fed. becuase his forehand was nasty! anyway I really enjoyed watching I subscribed and liked

  • @EndoftheTownProductions

Overall, you have a very solid game with a good serve, great two handed BH and excellent tactics. I would suggest trying to get more depth on your neutral rally forehand shots as they often fall short in the court. Maybe take some pace off the ball and hit with more topspin to pin the opponent to the back of the court. Those short rally forehands will allow your opponent to move you around the court.

Random Q - Do you plan your tournaments / travel strategically? For example, I imagine indoor hardcourts are your best surface (since you're from Sweden), do you pick events based on that? Or if ITF M15s and M25s in some regions are stronger (Europe) / weaker (Africa / Asia) vs others?
Would love some insight from a pro, thanks!

Hmm I try to keep my schedule to similar/same surface for as long as possible, but most seasons follow the larger circuit, like summer is a lot of clay, winter indoors, mid seasons is hardcourt in/out. But try to stick to same surface as much as possible is key i believe

No doubt you guys will win the doubles haha but tough to lose that first set and on the second, in my opinion, you went to/had to play to many times to his forehand where to me it looked like he accelerated the ball a lot more. The points you went more on his backhand side, you were in advantage and never in trouble. It is safe to say that the call out on 3x3 on the second set would take anyone out of the game. But after the win in doubles, the next singles will get better. Good luck

His UTR is 9, so he’s basically a 5.0 at recreational level. If anything Simon was generous giving him a game.

Got an honest question. How do you seriously even intend to beat someone who’s a semi heavy hitter. You are putting no pressure on the second person whatsoever. He’s just unloading on every lobbed backhand you hit. You need to hit a weight room and just get stronger imo. Any one who hits with some pace seems to always overtake you

I disagree, to an extent. Weight rooms RARELY work for tennis. What's needed is reps. I believe this was his 1st tourney of the year, so he's got some ring rust.
Pace can backfire badly. Simon is clearly not as confident as usual in this match (rust), and hitting harder would likely only cause negative internal dialogue, some curse words, or a ball cranked into the backdrop lol.
Simon, do you feel like something might be wrong with your racquet/string setup? A bit too many shanks/mishits. Maybe something less stiff and/or with a bigger sweet spot, and/or change up string setup? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Dude this guy was such a cheater. I mean these calls he was calling weren't even on the line some where inside the line and he's still calling them out. This is immature way of winning when you get to the higher levels and there's linesmen you wonder why none of your cheat calls will bail you out of close matches. I hated this guy so much watching more of this match.

ATP guys do this, too. Tsitsipas comes to mind. We were told we juniors once 'If someone cheats you, cheat them right back.' Felt badly doing it, but it worked every time. Eventually the ump gets called out and the cheater gets found out. Karma, man.
