Thanks for the hack tips. I have the scan n cut 2 and want to try embossing, but I didn't want to have to invest in the Brother embossing kit. I like the idea of the sticky mat. I have an embossing tool I brought at Dollar Tree and it actually fits in the original short drawing pen marker holder that came with my machine. I was going to draw with it on card stock and see if it works. If it works, I'll make a sticky foam mat. What are your thoughts?
Thank you! I’ve often wondered if the Cricut tool would fit in the 3DFUNPRINTZ holder. I have the holder so now I know I can buy the tool and it’ll work. Very interesting video. ❤
Nice work on the video. Just a suggestion, some of us old ladies are hard of hearing, so maybe turn up the mic gain so your voice is a bit louder....your voice tends to fall off in spot and couldn't hear what you was saying luckily had the words on screen. I find it better to be to loud then not loud enough...people can turn ya down but can only turn up so far. Most of us hard of hearing already have people turned to max volume. Just a suggestion do what ya will with it. Thanks for the wonderful tips and look forward to more fun scan n cut projects ;)
Thank you so much for this video, it is really informative. I’ve been looking and thinking about how to utilise the machine without having to spend a lot of money on accessories, the machines are expensive enough. I’m also thinking about how to incorporate the calligraphy accessories without £80 cost of the package. If I get a solution I’ll share it 😊
I'm waiting for my embossing & universal pen holder to arrive. Have you tried to use a calligraphy pen with it yet? I'm going to give that a go when mine arrives, but I'll use a cheap pen to test it. 😊
I love this video!! Where can I get that memory foam? I've searched and can't find it. Is there anything else that can be used as a substitute? Thank you.
You can try the thin craft foam, can usually get it cheap from a range of stores. It's the stuff used for children's crafts etc. I know my machine DX model can take up to 3mm thickness 😊
Thank you. Very informational. I just got a Brother DESIGN N CUT machine and I would like to try embossing. QUESTION: How does the machine know the initial thickness of the embossing mat, if you make your own? Is your suggestion of 1.5 mm a good go-to plan? Also, didn't know about the Gorilla tape bits on th back of the pen holder to fool the machine. Guess it's all part of being creative, right?
Hi, yes your settings will be the same on your machine, you have basically the same machine, but minus the scanner. I'm so glad you found it helpful, you're going to love your Design n Cut, it opens up a whole new world. 🥰
Hi, have you tried the cricut tool without having to use the sponge at the bottom? It should grip perfectly without it. Similarly for the double ended tool you used. Would love to know whether it works. Fab video, very useful.
With the Cricut tool in the 3D FunPrintz you wouldn't need the extra pencil grip, I tend to leave it on as I do need it for the Brother universal pen holder, and I just know if I take it off, I'll never find it again :) …. But I did find if I didn't put pencil grips on the double ended nail tool, it wouldn't fully grip in the holder, but my tool is very thin, so a thicker barreled one would probably work without the grip fine.
Hello, thank you for all this information! we're done buying! it's not good for the planet. can i emboss white board mounting? is it too hard or too thick? what is the maximum thickness of the material according to you? Can I emboss a piece large as the mat ? Is there limitation 🙂

Thanks so much for the "hack" (tape). I was hoping to use this to score the dash lines, but so far no success.

It comes in the embossing kit made by Brother for the Scan n Cut machines.
