***TYPO CORRECTION*** At the end of the video I give Jack's birth year as 1885 - this is wrong - it was 1895! I can't correct it once the video is uploaded! Apologies 🌹
My late sister was a teenager was working at the BBC, she was rushing between offices and bumped into Jack Warner in the corridors and said "sorry Mr Dixon" he replied don't worry dear.
What a lovely memory! It’s always nice to hear personal stories like that, especially about someone as beloved as Jack Warner. He seemed to have a wonderful way with people. Thanks for sharing this special moment! xxxxx
Thank you for sharing that lovely memory! Nostalgia like that is truly special. I’m glad the video brought those happy moments back for you! Thank you so much for watching! xxxxx
@gina. Yes, winter evenings by the coal fire. Grandstand, and the football results read out by a man with a lovely voice, and then a bit later Dixon of Dock Green.
Jack Warner's influence on British life has been pervasive. The image of the British bobby on the beat that he helped create, both in "The Blue Lamp" (1949) and as George Dixon in "Dixon Of Dock Green" remained long after his passing. I enjoyed this very much. As a fan of old black and white British movies, I was familiar with Jack Warner's career, but there was much here that was new to me. My favourite film of his is "The Final Test" (1953). Thank you for posting this.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment! I completely agree-Jack Warner’s portrayal of the British bobby has left a lasting impact on our cultural landscape. I'm glad you found new insights in the video, especially as a fan of classic British cinema! 'The Final Test' is a great choice; (as well as being written by Terrence Rattigan who I'm a fan of!) it really showcases Jack's talent. I appreciate your support and look forward to sharing more stories! xxxx
My father, Bill Spenceley, was the natural therapist who treated and inspired Jack. He and Molly became firm family friends. To me he was "Uncle" Jack. He and Molly introduced us to the board game Scrabble as a Christmas present. Thank you for your wonderful RUclips biography of Uncle Jack.
Oh my goodness, this is absolutely wonderful! Thank you so much for your beautiful comment and for sharing your cherished memories of Jack and Mollie! You've truly made my day-what a fantastic connection you have! and what a wonderful father too! I absolutely adore that they introduced you to Scrabble; it’s always been one of my favorite board games! Your kind words about the video mean the world to me, and I’m so grateful for your support. This has genuinely delighted me-thank you for brightening my day! xxxx
I met Jack Warner in about 1968 when I was 10 yrs old. My Aunt & Uncle ran a pub in Herefordshire and he popped in one day. I don’t recall the reason why he was in Hereford. But I was there with my cousins & friends playing in the beer garden & Jack came and spoke to us all and he got us all Vimto’s. I remember him being a really nice man
What a wonderful memory, Carol! Thank you so much for sharing it. Jack Warner sounds like he was just as kind and warm in person as he came across on screen. How lovely that he took the time to chat with you all and even treat you to Vimto-such a sweet story! It’s moments like these that really show what a genuinely nice man he was. 😊 xxxxx
What a lovely tribute to Jack i can remember watching him on tv as Dixon of Dock Green and remember his ending saying evening all Thanks shar for the lovely memories
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! It’s wonderful to hear that Dixon of Dock Green was such a big part of your growing up years. I’m so glad the video resonated with you. I really appreciate your support, it means a lot! xxxx
Brilliant! Thank you. As a nipper in the 1960s I watched Dixon every Saturday night, he was one of my Nan's favourites. By a strange coincidence, Jack was featured in today's upload from the BBC Archive YT Channel. It turns out that back in 1957 he was president of the Sunday Freedom Association, which campaigned for the relaxation of the strict Sunday Observance laws at the time that prohibited shops, theatres and professional sporting events operating on Sundays.
What a fantastic memory! It’s great to hear that Jack Warner was a favorite of your Nan’s. He is firmly a part of my childhood memories too! Oh yes! The Sunday Freedom Association!!! He felt really strongly about it, he said it was generally interpreted to mean comedy acts, costumes and makeup were forbidden! It was madness! Thank you so much for your comment and for watching the video - it's very appreciated! xxxx
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Jack Warner truly was a remarkable gentleman, and it's inspiring to reflect on his kindness and the impact he had on others. 😊 xxxx
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I'm really glad you enjoyed the documentary - that means a lot to me. It’s great to hear that you found it better than what’s on TV! Your support makes all the hard work worthwhile. Thanks again for watching and for your kind words! xxxx
Knock me down with a feather!! Diana Dors and Petula Clark were roughly the same age!!!Whilst looking after my mum with dementia I happened on a Higgets boxset and we played them all in one afternoon, both of us enjoying a wonderful afternoon!! xxxx
Hi Ian! It’s surprising, I know? 😅 Diana Dors and Petula Clark both had such incredible careers and they remained friends! I’m so glad to hear you and your mum enjoyed the Huggetts box set together. Thank you for sharing that beautiful moment! My friend and I repeat re-watch the Huggetts every time she visits - it makes us VERY happy! We have our favourite scenes too and we feed each other the lines! We really do love them so much xxxxx
Thanks Shar, another great video. I have fond memories of watching Dixon of Dock Green with my family when I was very small. I had no idea he had such a talented family, I now want to find out more about his sisters’ double act. Carve her Name with Pride is one of my favourite old films, I’d forgotten that Jack was in it.
Ohhhh! Nicki, 'Gert & Daisy' are fascinating!!!! Jack had an inspirational life - he did so much before he became famous - I think that's possibly why he was such a good actor, he brought life experience with him. It's funny you said that about Carve Her Name With Pride - I was similar with It Always Rains on Sunday - I'd completely forgotten Jack was in that and I absolutely adore that film! Thank you so much for your lovely comment and for watching the video - it's very appreciated! xxxx
Ive grown up watching Jack Warner films. Wonderful actor. Favourites Dixon of Dock green tv episodes, The Blue Lamp and Jigsaw films. Many wonderful war films too. Thankyou for this ❤
Thanks for sharing your love for Jack Warner! I feel the same! He truly was a remarkable actor, and it's great to hear that his films have left such a lasting impression. "Dixon of Dock Green" and "The Blue Lamp" are classics! Glad you enjoyed the video! ❤ Thank you for watching! xxxxx
@@no-oneinparticular7264 I Love ' The Blue Lamp ' , it's absolutely one of my favourite films of all time, ( and it's also a plus point that it's all filmed round where I was born & bred, including Paddington Green Children's hospital, at the beginning, where I used to go from the age of 4 -13.) I Really Love that film SOoo much
Thank you so much! and thank you for appreciating the time and effort it takes to produce a video - especially when one is considerably lacking in audio and tech skills 😅 it does take me an age but I do love it! Hugs and kisses back to you! xxxxx
That brought back memories of a show I remembered on the radio ...Meet the huggetts. And of course Dixon representing times and attitude sadly long gone.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! It's great to hear that the Huggetts brought back memories for you - it's definitely one of my most favourite ever films! Jack Warner’s portrayal in 'Dixon of Dock Green' really did capture a different time and attitude and I agree it's so sad those days are long gone! Thank you again for your lovely comment and for watching xxxx
What a truly beautiful tribute to Jack Warner. I am sure I am not the only one who found grit in their eyes at the end of such a thoughtful touchingly poignant portrait of simpler times and another iconic portrait walk down memory lane 🎉❤
Thank you for your lovely comment! I appreciate that you enjoy remembering the stars from the past. Even if you weren't around during Dixon of Dock Green, it’s great that we can still celebrate their legacy together. There’s so much to discover about these classic shows and the impact they had! xxxx
I always remember watching Dixon of Dock Green when I was a Child . Sometimes use to see it at my Grandads flat. The show was very much of a classic BBC Saturday Evening like Dr Who.
That’s such a lovely memory! Dixon of Dock Green really was a classic, and it’s great to hear it played a part in your childhood, especially those moments at your Grandad’s flat. It definitely had that same iconic Saturday evening vibe as "Doctor Who" - a real staple of British TV back then. Thanks so much for sharing that! xxxx
Shar, I’m saving your last three videos. I’m going to watch them during my morning routine when I start my new job in a few weeks time. They are so calming and fun. I hope you have fully recovered and I look forward to more excellent content.
I had no idea that Jack Warner had such a prolific amount of acting to his name. Dixon of Dock Green was always a favourite in our house when I was growing up, I can hear the intro tune now! Thank you for such an informative video, Jack sounded like such a genuinely nice person 😊
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! 😊 I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and that it brought back memories of Dixon of Dock Green -that intro tune is so iconic, isn't it? 🎶 Jack Warner truly had such a remarkable career, and from everything I've learned, he really was as kind and genuine off-screen as he seemed on it. Thank you again for watching and for your kind words! 😊 xxxx
Thankyou my Favourite Blonde Bombshell. So much information about my Favourite Sgt. I joined the Met in 1984 and tried to mirror Jacks compassion and wisdom.. Keep up the good work xxx
Thank you so much! I’ll happily take the "blonde bombshell" compliment, though I must admit it's more of a 'natural platinum'-the silver lining of old age, if you’ll excuse the pun! 😄 I'm glad you enjoyed all the information about your favourite Sgt. It’s wonderful to hear that Jack Warner’s compassion and wisdom inspired you in your career with the Met. That’s such a lovely tribute to him. Thanks for your support, and I’ll definitely keep up the good work! xxx in fact I'm currently working on another phenomenal icon of TV and film that I can't wait to share!!!! Thank you again for your lovely comment - you've made my day! xxxx
Fascinating to learn about Jack's early career and that his fame and success increased with his age, which is quite the opposite of many actors. His role in "Dixon of Dock Green" certainly was his crowning glory and made him a familiar figure on British television for many years. It was also quite an achievement, given that very few actors made a successful transition from movies into television.
Thank you for such a thoughtful comment! I completely agree-Jack Warner’s journey was quite unique, gaining more fame as he aged, which really sets him apart from many actors. His portrayal of Dixon in Dixon of Dock Green truly cemented him as a household name and a beloved figure on British TV. It’s amazing how he seamlessly transitioned from film to television, especially at a time when that wasn’t common. His legacy certainly lives on! Thank you for watching the video! It's very appreciated xxxx
What a fascinating life Jack Warner had. I really appreciate your research, the wonderful pictures you gather and your very engaging delivery. Thank you…👏🏻🇦🇺♥️
So glad you enjoyed the video - thank you so much for your lovely comment and for watching - I really appreciate it and comments like yours keep me motivated! xxxx
Generous and kind tribute as usual, well deserved no doubt. My late father came from the same part of the world and was also always amused by Warner's obviously flat feet, which he pointed out would have almost certainly disqualified him from being a real copper. But that aside, and notwithstanding the fact that the famous series dragged on for far too long with rather old fashioned scripts, it did deal with social issues in a sympathetic way. Apart from the 'Blue Lamp' my favourite role of his was probably in 'Hue and Cry'. Times have changed a lot but personal integrity usually shines through and I believe that mostly applied to Warner. His sisters were funny too. Thank you for all your efforts in producing this, which was very interesting.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! It’s wonderful to hear about your father’s memories and his connection to Jack Warner’s work-especially the amusing observation about Warner’s flat feet! I agree, while *Dixon of Dock Green* did run a bit long, it always maintained a certain charm and dealt with social issues in a gentle, thoughtful way. Hue and Cry sounds like another great example of Warner’s versatility, and it’s fantastic that you also appreciate his role in that film. I haven't seen it yet but it's definitely on my list (which is ever-growing to be honest!) Times may have changed, but as you said, personal integrity always stands out, and Jack Warner certainly embodied that. His sisters were indeed hilarious too! Thank you again for your kind words-I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. 😊 xxxx
Oh you lovely lady, you narrate, with your soft voice, and tell the story wonderfully, what an interesting man Jack Warner was, having a loving wife, and family, thankyou, will give that autobiography a look!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I’m glad you enjoyed the narration and found Jack Warner’s story interesting. He truly was a remarkable man with a beautiful family. I hope you enjoy the autobiography-it's a great read! Your support means a lot to me! ♥ xxxx
What an extraordinary life he had, I remember watching Dixon of Dock Green in the 1970s, Saturday evening after Grandstand. I've come across the Hugget radio programmes on BBC 4 extra over the years. I've heard of Gert and Daisy, but had no clue they were the sisters of Jack Warner. This was a great watch shar, Best wishes from Wales.
Thank you, Paul! I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Jack Warner truly did have an extraordinary life, and it’s great to hear that 'Dixon of Dock Green' was part of your Saturday evenings - mine too! The Huggetts will always be my favourite... Gert and Daisy being his sisters is such an interesting fact. Best wishes to you in Wales, and I appreciate your support! Thank you so much for watching! xxxx
As usual absolutely brilliant. I never get bored watching your videos. Jack was and remains one of my favorite actors. He reminds me of my Grandad who looks similar having also been born within the sound of the Bow Bells in East London.
Thank you so much, Mandy! I’m so happy to hear you enjoy the videos and that Jack Warner holds a special place in your heart - he does mine too!!! It’s lovely that he reminds you of your grandad-such a wonderful connection! Thank you for your lovely comment and for watching the video - it's so very appreciated xxxxx
Thanks Shar. That was brilliantly done as ever.. I grew up in the 50s with Dixon on the telly but had no idea of Jack's fascinating and varied earlier career. And I had no idea that Elsie and Doris Waters were his sisters. Great stuff. Incidentally, a few years ago I had the pleasure of meeting Tony Parker who played PC Bob Penney (the constable on Dixon who was shot and killed). Tony went on to have a fascinating second career as a producer/director of TV sitcoms.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m glad you found the video insightful-Jack Warner’s career is indeed fascinating! It’s also great to hear about your meeting with Tony Parker; he had such a memorable role on 'Dixon of Dock Green' and it's so interesting to hear he achieved so much in his career - I didn't know he became a producer/director. I appreciate your support and love sharing these stories with you! xxxx
Oh WOW!!!! I watched every episode of that back in the day - I loved Hywel Bennett! Now that's a name I had forgotten until you said! Thank you for the reminder! xxxx
I became a Police officer in the mid 1960's rising to Sergeant in the early 1970's and retired in the early 90's some 31 yrs ago. Although I rarely watched Dixon of Dock Green when it originally aired on the BBC some of the programmes mainly from the 70's were recently shown on one of the Sky channels. I watched them all with fondness as it coincided with my time in the service and bought back many memories. I've seen The Blue Lamp, the films of Meet the Huggets and as a youngster my mother played the radio series every Sunday followed by forces Favourites. Many-many happy memories of them all.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful memories! It’s great to hear how *Dixon of Dock Green* resonated with your own experiences in the police force. That connection must make the show even more special! It’s amazing how these programs can bring back such fond memories, especially those from our childhood. The Huggetts are my ultimate favourite - obviously, because Diana Dors was so fabulous in them but also because the rest of the cast and Jack were simply superb! I appreciate you taking the time to watch my video and share your thoughts-it's always interesting to hear how these shows have impacted people's lives. Thank you again for your comment! 😊
A very nice touch at the end, when you laid flowers. Jack Warner was the same age as my grandfather, and lived just two years longer; I've come to think of the two of them in the same breath, because my Grandad was a lovely man, and of a not dissimilar background.
Thank you so much for your kind comment. It’s lovely to hear that Jack Warner reminds you of your grandfather-that connection must make his story feel even more personal. It sounds like your Grandad was a wonderful man. I’m glad the flowers at the end resonated with you-it felt like a small way to honour Jack and Mollie’s memory. Thank you for sharing this lovely reflection it's very appreciated. ❤️ xxxx
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video and found it insightful. I knew Jack Warner had a fascinating life, but it was great to dive deeper and share it with everyone. Your support always means so much to me! ♥♥♥ xxxx
Another wonderful tribute Shar to a fine actor, a gentleman who could rightly be called "a national treasure " even before the term became popular. I loved The Huggets series of films with the sublime Kathleen Harrison and little Petula Clark, my favourite was when they won the football pools, Jack trying to get his head around the fact he'd won and his beloved wife almost having a nervous breakdown at the same time, just hilarious 😅. I always thought Jack Warner was a mighty commanding presence on the silver screen, never giving a bad performance and always seeking truth in his characterisation, always a craftsman in each performance, definitely one of the 'best of British'. ❤
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment, Robin! I completely agree-Jack Warner truly was a national treasure, long before the term became popular. 'The Huggetts' series is such a delightful classic, that makes me so incredibly happy - and that scene with the football pools is absolutely hilarious! You captured it perfectly! Jack’s commanding presence and dedication to his craft really set him apart, and it’s wonderful to celebrate his legacy. Thank you again for your lovely comment and for watching the video - it's very appreciated!!!! xxxx
A cracking tribute to the man who played British television's most famous London copper. It's strange that a large chunk of Dixon episodes not longer exist, but it's nice we still have the theme tune with that wonderful voice on it. Hope he's doing OK patrolling the streets of heaven Goodbye PC Dixon, we still miss you dearly ❤ 😀
I grew up watching Dixon of Dock Green and loved Jack Warner's character in the programme. I always thought he was very credible as a policeman and after enjoying your video, now understand why that was so. What a wonderful life he had and what a brilliant job you have done in producing your tribute to him. I shall await with interest your feedback re a family connection with his wife. Thank you for all your time, energy and hard work in bringing this video to us. 🙏🌹xx
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I'm glad to hear that you grew up watching Dixon of Dock Green (I did too!) and felt Jack Warner's portrayal was so credible. It really shows how much he brought to the role! I appreciate your kind words about the video and what it takes to produce it -I enjoyed making it and sharing his wonderful life. I'm looking forward to finding the family connection, so far it's looking good but I need that illusive piece of the puzzle! Thank you for your support; it means a lot! xxxx
I saw him in a cafe in London when I was a teenager. He looked so different out of the police uniform. I had thought of him as a cuddly granddad type. He was actually very tall, smart and rather handsome. 😂
Thank you so much for your lovely comment and for watching the video - I do hope I can find the final piece of jigsaw puzzle with Mollie - that would be wonderful! xxxx
Thank you so much Robert! 😊 I’m really glad you enjoyed the video, and it’s great to hear how much you appreciated Jack Warner’s performances too. He really was a brilliant actor! Your kind words and 10 ❤ mean a lot-thanks for watching! xx 🎉😊 xxxx
Well done for another fabulous biography. You have such a way with these, that makes it very relaxing and most enjoyable to watch. It was a fine day, when i came across your channel. Thank you
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm really glad you enjoyed the biography and found it relaxing to watch. It means a lot to hear that you’re enjoying the channel. I appreciate your support, and I look forward to sharing more stories with you! xxxxx
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you found the narrative on Jack Warner interesting. I'm doing well, and I appreciate your support! Stay tuned for more videos-I’m excited to share them! Especially the next one coming up! 😉 xxxxx
Hiya Shar, another all time great from the British Entertainment Industry. Again you have told me so much I never knew about this fine actor. My late mother's family house was near Brooklands,The phrase " an all round entertainer " could have been created just for him. One thing stood out in your marvelous film, lead me to a story about another young actor who had the great good fortune to work with him. Harry Fowler. He said the best piece of advice he ever received was when Jack told him, you have talent and you could go far. Just remember this " never turn down a job, maybe it's only one line. Take it and do it well, next time it could be two lines 😊" Obviously I'm going to watch this again and probably again, so much detail. As ever so well researched and your voice is so beautifully tuned to the subject of who you are watching. So its brilliant to have a new video from you, but don't push yourself to hard. All good things are worth waiting for. See you in the next video love and hugs Allan&Family PS the flowers looked bloomin fabulous
Hi Allan! I hope all is good with you! Thank you so much for your wonderful comment! I’m thrilled to hear you found new insights about Jack Warner-he truly was an all-round entertainer. I love the story about Harry Fowler and the great advice Jack gave him; it really highlights his generosity and wisdom. Also.... Harry is another specialist subject of mine! 😂 He was a good friend of Diana Dors - and he had an interesting life - tragic at times too - especially his marriage to Joan Dowling - another of my interests! Once I get started on Harry and Joan it's hard to stop!! I appreciate your kind words about my voice and the research-your support means a lot! I’ll make sure to take my time with future videos. Sending love and hugs to you and your family! Can't wait to see you in the next one! 💐 Wishing you a wonderful week ahead xxxxx
Thank you for the kind words! I’m glad you found the video well-researched. Those photos really do provide a stark reminder of how different life was back then. It’s important to reflect on that history. My husbands family were from the East End and we were recently going through the old photos - it was fascinating! I appreciate you watching the video! xxxx
Thank you so much! ❤ I was 'transported' 😂. Oh the Huggets! A wonderful set of movies. Kathleen Harrison always reminded me of my Gran. Jack came across as such a lovely man. Almost as if his life was blessed. Especially surviving like that... and being fed with a fountain pen! 😂 A very resourceful and determined mother 👍. The brandy idea wouldn't go down too well today though! Tee hee 😊 A fabulous video, full of twosts and turns that kept me rivited! Oh Helen two puns in one message. 😜 Looking forward to the next one. Judging by the quality of your videos i bet they take a lot of work. Your dedication shines through my dear! ❤
😂 Hi Helen! Thank you so much for your lovely comment and it's had me giggling! I thought exactly that about the brandy! Oh and Kathleen Harrison is another huge favourite - she was just awesome! I would like to be able to say that the videos are easy peasy and don't take me five minutes.... but I'd be completely lying 😂 it's almost literal blood sweat and tears lol LOTS of tears when I'm editing lol I'm not naturally gifted with audio and technology etc - it can be stressful - but I LOVE my subjects to the moon and back a billion times - and I do love sharing my passion and receiving fabulous comments like yours! xxxx
that detail reminded me of a similar incident in call the midwife, where i think it's an older sister who devises a way to feed her newborn brother using a pipette from chemistry class, when their mother is too unwell to help. would have been 50+ years later, but in ?poplar, similar area. clever people those east-enders.
Thankyou so much for your great biography video on the life of Jack Warner, i watched Dixon dock Green as a child when it was in the colour in the 1970s . loved watching it recently on TV so nice to see many episodes i had never seen before .But sadly only a portion of episodes remain in existence. I also love watching as many films with jack warner it always rains on sunday and many more what a great job is sisters did playing Gert and Daisy and the wartime recipes which were given on radio,i still make the lord woolton pie of world war two era ,all vegetables. It is sad all these wonderful old skool actors have sadly gone but thankfully we have the memories to cherish. Glad Diana Dors got to work with the great Jack warner she went too soon ,she was another great actress like a lot you mention in this Biography .
Thank you so much for your wonderful comment! I'm glad you enjoyed the biography of Jack Warner. It's great to hear that you have fond memories of Dixon of Dock Green and are rediscovering those classic episodes. I completely agree that it's a shame so many episodes are missing, but it's lovely that we can still enjoy the ones that remain. It's also fascinating to hear about your connection to wartime recipes, especially the Lord Woolton pie! Jack Warner and his contemporaries truly left a lasting legacy, and it’s heartwarming to see how their work continues to resonate with fans like us! Diana Dors was indeed a remarkable talent, to be honest, the more I learn about Diana the more I appreciate her, she had so many challenges in her short life but she faced up to each challenge with absolute determination and braveness! Thank you again for such a lovely comment and for watching the video! It's very appreciated xxxx
@@BeautifulBadandBizarre i agree also about diana dors. didn't she play a fictionalised version of ruth ellis as the condemned prisoner, v moving and impressive, no make-up
Thanks once again Shar, so enjoy your videos. Saturday night with 'Dixon of Dock Green', seems like another age altogether now. Tough times made somehow easier with that kind of entertainment.
Thank you so much Garry, for your lovely comment! I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos. Dixon of Dock Green really does bring back a sense of nostalgia, doesn’t it? It’s amazing how shows like that provided comfort and joy during tough times. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts! xxxx
Thanks for a really great biography of an all round nice guy. Brings back fond old memories of watching Dixon and hearing that iconic phrase "evenin' all"
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it and that it brought back some good memories. Jack Warner's portrayal of Dixon definitely left a lasting impression, and that iconic 'evenin' all' is truly unforgettable! xxxx
Many thanks Shar for your biography on the wonderful Jack Warner he was very much a family favourite and I remember watching Dixon Of Dock Green in the seventies when I was a kid, I remember when he died the police came and flanked the side of the road where the hearse came up to show their respect to him they considered him one of their own and showed it accordingly. Lovely to see you up and about again looking fabulous as ever 💋
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I’m glad you enjoyed the video about Jack Warner-he truly was a family favourite for many. I remember the cortege (not sure on the spelling there!) with police showing such respect at his passing; it really speaks to the impact he had on both the public and the force. I appreciate your kind words as well! 💖 Thank you so much again for your lovely comment and for watching the video, it's very appreciated as always! xxxx
It was great as well to be reminded of Kathleen Harrison. I loved her performance in the sitcom Mrs Thursday as the charwomen who comes into a fortune. I've just seen that she lived to 103. Thanks again Shar. So much gold in one video.
Thank you for your wonderful comment it's really made my day! Kathleen Harrison was such a talent, and her role in 'Mrs. Thursday' was delightful. It’s amazing that she lived to 103! Did you know that she knocked a few years off of her age when she was younger? There is a lovely story about it which I will share in a future video! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video about Jack. Your support means a lot - thank you so much for watching xxxx
@@BeautifulBadandBizarre i too love Kathleen Harrison, an under-rated actor i think; and she looked like my dear aunt winnie, also the parts, humble, kind, unassuming.
Jack Warner was a Legend as Dickson of Dock Green. I recall watching it in the late 50's/ early 1960's. Thank you Shar for a very interesting tribute of his life.❤️🏴🇬🇧
Amazed that I was only the second person to start video. Great work Shar! You ability to bring these people to life is so wonderful. We are so lucky to have your channel! Hope you and your chihuahua boys are all doing well. Thank you so much. You are such a 🌟 ❤ Only shame is we can only thumbs up the video once, it deserves 5 stars
Thank you so much Richard! I’m thrilled to hear you enjoyed the video. It’s a joy to bring these incredible figures to life, and I appreciate your support! The chihuahua boys are doing great too, thanks for asking. I hope your girl is doing good too - although I forgot to say - Heathcliff is on ear drops at the moment and when he sees the bottle he screams like a child in Tescos - for absolutely no reason lol Thank you again for your lovely comment. Your enthusiasm means a lot! 🌟❤ xxxxx
@@BeautifulBadandBizarre Thank you Shar, you deserve the support, you bring such lovely memories to life as though they were yesterday. Lola is doing very well and being super loving. So sorry that Heathcliff is on ear drops and is being such a boy about his treatment. Then a scratch is a near death experience for us boys 😂. I wish him a speedy conclusion to his treatment and plenty of treats too. I am sure he will be back to top form very quickly. You are very appreciated Shar and I am so glad to see your depth and detail on these wonderful characters. Thank you for the comment too, it is always appreciated and reflects why you are such a special lady. Xxxx ❤️❤️
We never had a TV in my house when Dixon Of Dock Green was on. I only remember Jack Warner from “The Final Test” set at the Oval where I was a schoolboy member, which I saw at the cinema and which had a number of real test match cricketers in the cast
Thank you for sharing your memories! It’s fascinating that your first introduction to Jack Warner was through The Final Test-what a great film, especially with all the real cricketers in the cast. It must have been amazing seeing it at the cinema, especially as a schoolboy member at the Oval! Warner's versatility really shines through in roles like that, beyond his iconic portrayal in Dixon of Dock Green - I think also, people forget that back then not everyone had a TV! and those that did were usually watching small black and white screens but with huge surrounds - also, people often rented their TVs - my grandparents did - and I'm pretty sure they had to put money in it - like they did with the electricity! xxxx
What a great character actor, I grew up in the 70s with the last years of Dixon of Dock Green, I have seen 20 or so of his 1940s and 50s films, his stand out roles for me are The Captive Heart, Hue and Cry, Train of Events, Scrooge, Albert RN, Carve Her Name With Pride
Thank you, Stephen! Jack Warner truly was a remarkable talent. I love that you’ve seen so many of his films from the 40s and 50s-each role showcases his incredible range. 'The Captive Heart' and 'Carve Her Name With Pride' are definitely standouts. I agree with your choices and I'd add 'It Always Rains on Sunday' and all the Huggetts of course 😅 xxxxx
Another outstanding video, expertly and professionally presented, well done. I look forward with anticipation, for your next adventure into the world of entertainment.

Welcome aboard! It's all about the nostalgia here - it makes me happy, I would rather re-watch one of my old vintage favourites than any films/TV made today! xxxx
@@BeautifulBadandBizarreThank you, I totally agree, im the same and collected dvd's of programs from late 60s,70s and around that time and enjoy the old programs and films, have a Super Week,,,
Oh yes! Its the best thing ever when I manage to locate an old film on dvd -that I've not seen before - It was ages before I managed to get a copy of The Shop at Sly Corner (1947) it's one of my most treasured dvds! wishing yu a lovely week too! xxxx
Thank you so much for making this wonderful video, I've learnt so much about Jack, what an interesting life he had. They don't make actors like him anymore. For me personally I love The Huggetts & still enjoy listening to the radio series whenever it is repeated on Radio 4 Extra.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I'm thrilled you enjoyed the video and learned more about Jack Warner’s incredible life. He truly was one of a kind, and I agree-there's something special about those classic actors. The Huggetts were so brilliant and I still love watching the series today, and it’s wonderful that Radio 4 Extra keeps them alive. So glad to hear you're still enjoying them too! Thank you for watching the video - it's very appreciated! xxxx
I think he was PC 706 in Dixon of Dock Green - and 693 in The Blue Lamp xxxx Thank you so much for your lovely comment and for watching - I very much appreciate it xxxx
WOW. WOW. WOW. What a life . What a career. What a man. And WOW! What a video. You have really excelled yourself this time. The amount of research that went into it must have been immense. "Dixon of Dock Green was something I watched on a regular basis for the first decade of my life and even then I noticed how realistic the series was. Talking Pictures TV have recently finished a run of the show, including the last season. Far superior to any modern programme. Thank you so much for this one, Shar. Take care, my dear, until we see you again. 👍👍👍 👏👏👏 ⚘🌹🌹X
Thank you so much for your kind words! I truly appreciate it. Jack Warner was such an iconic figure, and I loved diving deep into his life and career for this video. It’s great to hear that you enjoyed "Dixon of Dock Green" as much as I did-there's something special about its realism that many modern shows just can’t replicate. I'm glad you found the video insightful! Oh and I absolutely love Talking Pictures! I look forward to sharing more with you soon. 🌹✨ xxxxx
Thank you very much for an interesting story about Jack Warner. He had a very busy life, and I still remember The Huggetts and Dixon of Dock Green, I must say a big thank you for the time you must have spent looking into Jack's life, and thank you for the flowers 💐💐 I too am from Kent, it would be nice to find out in what way you are related to Jack Warner, Thank you again ❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I’m glad you enjoyed the video and that it brought back memories of 'The Huggetts' and 'Dixon of Dock Green.' Jack Warner certainly lived an incredible life! It was such a joy to remember Jack - I thoroughly loved making the video. It’s wonderful to hear you're from Kent as well (my brother was born in Kent!) -I'm still looking into the family connection, and it would be exciting to uncover more! Thank you again for your support and kind words! ❤❤❤💐 XXXX
❤❤❤❤❤❤ Oh my life! I've just stumbled on your RUclips channel and subscribed immediately! Dear Sha, My dad was an International Portrait Artist, Baron Bernard Willems, has paintings in 44 different countries, sketched Pope John Paul II (who has personally signed his Ink Portrait, he was also commissioned out of 250 artists to paint Prince ( now King of Belgium) and his sister Princesse Astrid. Sadly, dad passed away on 22 August 2020 - at almost 98 years young. He & my mum lived on Dover Seafront for 11 years after WWII, having moved over to the UK from Brussels. (Dover has changed a lot this then; 1946/7 as can be seen from all the photos I have!) Dad was commissioned by Jack Warner to paint his wife Molley. My 3 elder sisters were born in Dover. My parents then moved up to South Manchester, where I was born in 1962 along with my younger brother, in 1966. I remember as a little girl, every Saturday we would religiously sit and watch, (myself crossed-legged infront of the TV) and watch Dixon of Dock Green on the 'Box'/ television without fail. Dad would tell us how he had met Jack and Molly and how lovely they were. Tbh, that was a given! Just seeing him on TV & the fact my mum and dad had actually met them both was Wow! I remember when the series was terminated, I was devasted, as were my parents and siblings. He felt like part of the family to us. Interestingly, also, you mention Coronation Street. Well, my dad painted a portrait of Pat Phoenix / Elsie Tanner, and I have a cutting in one of my dad's albums from when they covered an article of her 'at home' in a Magazine. Dad's painting is right there, by the chimney breast in full view! Apparently, Pat Phoenix / Elsie Tanner used to put me to bed! 😅. Sadly, I don't remember! Just listening to your video brought back so many fond memories of my dad, my youth, and the fact that mum & dad had known them and painted his lovely wife 😊. So, I personally thank you for bringing back such an emotional, treasured memory with your video ❤ Thank you xxx
Thank you so much for your beautiful comment! What an incredible story, and how special that your dad, Baron Bernard Willems, had such a remarkable life and career. His talent and the people he met along the way-like Jack Warner and Pat Phoenix-must have made for the most fascinating stories. It's amazing that you have such personal connections to these icons. I absolutely adore Pat Phoenix, she’s one of my favourites too, and it’s so touching to hear your dad painted her! What a wonderful memory to have, especially with the painting being featured in her home. I’m so glad my video could bring back these treasured memories for you. Thank you for sharing them with me, and for your kind words and support. Sending you much love! ❤ xxxx
***TYPO CORRECTION*** At the end of the video I give Jack's birth year as 1885 - this is wrong - it was 1895! I can't correct it once the video is uploaded! Apologies 🌹
You did give the correct date of birth at the beginning of your video. I enjoyed it immensely.
Yes you did!
Don't worry !
Thanks for sharing this special moment! xxxxx
I like that !!
I still have a signed photograph of Jack Warner as Dixon of Dock Green. A treasure from my childhood.
So many happy memories came flooding back of my mum ,sister and I watching Dixon of Dock Green in the late 5os and 60s. Thank you.
♥
Yes mum, Nan and me always watched Dixon of Dock Green, yep in front of the coal fire and proper toast! ❤

I appreciate your support and look forward to sharing more stories! xxxx
yes, i also enjoyed seeing him beside the wonderful and erudite Will Hay, who lived v near me and was an amateur astronomer.

😊 xxxxx
Did he say, "Evenin' all"? BTW, I always felt sorry for poor old Dixon - eighty-five years old and still only a police constable!
@@williamevans9426 haha. I don’t think he did
Bless him! He didn't want to retire - the same as my late father-in-law who was still working in his 80s too - amazing and inspirational! xxxx
There was a lot more to him than I realised. Thanks for making a great film.
My pleasure! Thank you so much for watching - Jack had such an interesting life! Xxxx
yes, what a lovely family he came from, esp his parents' generosity and charitable giving. that's the best example to have, and he followed it too.
What a lovely tribute to Jack i can remember watching him on tv as Dixon of Dock Green and remember his ending saying evening all
Thanks shar for the lovely memories

What a wonderful episode. Just loved it.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video xxxx
Brilliant!
Thank you so much for your comment and for watching the video - it's very appreciated! xxxx
Definitely a jack of all trades!
Dixon of Dock Green was an early telly memory for me 🙂👍

@@no-oneinparticular7264 I Love ' The Blue Lamp ' , it's absolutely one of my favourite films of all time, ( and it's also a plus point that it's all filmed round where I was born & bred, including Paddington Green Children's hospital, at the beginning, where I used to go from the age of 4 -13.) Fascinating to learn about Jack's early career and that his fame and success increased with his age, which is quite the opposite of many actors.
😊 xxxx
Thanks Shar, really appreciate and enjoy your channel. 😊
My pleasure! Thank you so much for your lovely comment and for watching - it's very appreciated! xxxxx
Oh you lovely lady, you narrate, with your soft voice, and tell the story wonderfully, what an interesting man Jack Warner was, having a loving wife, and family, thankyou, will give that autobiography a look!

I appreciate your support and love sharing these stories with you! xxxx
Tony Parker's biggest triumph as a producer/director was probably Shelley starring Hywel Bennett.
Oh WOW!!!! I watched every episode of that back in the day - I loved Hywel Bennett! Now that's a name I had forgotten until you said! Thank you for the reminder! xxxx
That was excellent thanks very much.
You're so welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it - thank you so much for watching xxxx

❤️ xxxx
Great video Shar I didn’t realise what a full life Jack had lead. This was a brilliant insight in which you have narrated it brilliantly 👏👏👏xx

Thank you for your support; it means a lot! xxxx
Another wonderful insight Shar, many thanks.x

I saw him in a cafe in London when I was a teenager. He looked so different out of the police uniform. I had thought of him as a cuddly granddad type. He was actually very tall, smart and rather handsome. 😂
A lovely tribute. What an amazing life and career.Good luck with your family connection.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment and for watching the video - I do hope I can find the final piece of jigsaw puzzle with Mollie - that would be wonderful! xxxx

💐 Wishing you a wonderful week ahead xxxxx
wonderful well researched video, those photos from 1900 really are grim but that was the way it was back then.
Tee hee 😊
A fabulous video, full of twosts and turns that kept me rivited!
Oh Helen two puns in one message. 😜
Looking forward to the next one.
I appreciate you sharing your thoughts! xxxx
I enjoyed watching this story of Jack, thank you
You're so welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it - that you so much for watching xxxxx
Thank you Shar for a very interesting tribute of his life.❤️🏴🇬🇧
I really enjoyed that, thank you x
My absolute pleasure! Thank you so much for watching xxxx
I am 62 and I loved Dixon of Dockgreen. I loved it when he said "Evening all".

Warner's versatility really shines through in roles like that, beyond his iconic portrayal in Dixon of Dock Green - I think also, people forget that back then not everyone had a TV! and those that did were usually watching small black and white screens but with huge surrounds - also, people often rented their TVs - my grandparents did - and I'm pretty sure they had to put money in it - like they did with the electricity! xxxx
Thank you for such an interesting video, bought back lovely memories of watching at home with my parents Dixon of dock green,
My pleasure! Thank you so much for your lovely comment and for watching the video - it's very appreciated! xxxx

Absolutely epic , ❤️

Oh my life! I've just stumbled on your RUclips channel and subscribed immediately!
Dear Sha,
My dad was an International Portrait Artist, Baron Bernard Willems, has paintings in 44 different countries, sketched Pope John Paul II (who has personally signed his Ink Portrait, he was also commissioned out of 250 artists to paint Prince ( now King of Belgium) and his sister Princesse Astrid.
❤ xxxx
A marvellous actor and a truly great man .
I do agree! xxxx
