I absolutely love this!!!! Thank you!!! She always came across in interviews so lovely and not at all egotistical ❤️❤️❤️ very down to earth I think and so sweet - and incredible as Edna! Thank you so much for watching ❤️❤️🌹
That was really lovely because Patricia Hayes deserves to be remembered with fondness and respect. Thank you once again Shar for a well researched and generous tribute. As you say, an excellent character actress is exactly what she was and thank goodness for 'Play for Today' giving her an overdue TV lead role, which she played with distinction. I always bracket Patricia with Irene Handl because they were from the same era, often playing similar types of roles with quite a few of the same comedy actors. My favourite part of hers was on radio in 'The Men from the Ministry' as a militant tea lady, circa 1970. It's a cliche, but we won't see the like of her again.
Thank you so very much! I agree with everything you’ve said about Patricia! Beautiful. Thank you for this. Such a talented lady and such a challenging life. People were far more stoic during my grandparents time. Even more so for Entertainers and especially for those associated with comedy. Nowadays, it seems that little-celebrities exploit their tragedies, either to gain a larger, sympathetic following, or to sell their stories for cash. I am not suggesting that this is wrong, or that the past was better. It just feels exploitative when some mediocre TV personality appears on daytime TV after they have been dropped from a soap. Perfect timing to for a trivial (But somehow life-threatening?) ailment to crop-up. Fair play to Patricia. She understood that everyone has their own issues to handle. Why burden them with hers, when she can make people smile instead? Thank you again for a lovely retrospective on the life of a lovely lady.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment and I absolutely agree with you! Patricia had many challenges and it definitely wasn’t a life of all glamour and fun - and yes totally - stars of yesterday went to great lengths to entertain without attempting to burden their fans with their own personal problems or illnesses - was that better? I honestly don’t know - but it’s hard to laugh with a comedian who you know is having a hard time with illness - I just don’t know but you’ve made me think!!! Thank you so much for watching! Xx

Patricia Hayes was, like Dandy Nichols, one of those wonderful character actresses that sadly seem to be in short supply these days. I remember her appearances in The Goodies, Hugh and I (with Terry Scott and Hugh Lloyd) and of course Till Death Us Do Part. Surely her best performance had to be Edna? Just my opinion. Thank you for reminding us of this talented actress. You put a lot of work into these.
Edna was outstanding!!! I loved her in that! I agree - we had some fabulous character actor and actresses and they are thin on the ground these days! Just discovered your channel. I visited Frances Shea’s grave yesterday after i watched your video. Such a tragic life and how heartbreaking that her mother never got her moved and she had to be surrounded by The Krays and not her own family. Moved me to tears when I visited it. Now going to find the play for today on Edna, remember it so well.
Oh this is so lovely Sharon! ❤❤❤ thank you so much - I think despite the situation there is a peaceful and loving vibe at the grave of Frances ❤ I will pop by with flowers again soon ❤ Enjoy Edna!!! I’ll be watching it later too! ❤❤❤
This is a great tribute video of Patricia Hayes. She was a very underrated character actress. I think that her shyness affected her ability to become a bigger star than she was.
Hi Jennifer thank you for your lovely comment and for watching ❤️ Yes! I think you’re right - shyness and a lack of confidence was a real issue for her - which seems incredible considering how brilliant and talented she was - you would think she’d be brimming with confidence ❤️
Thanks for another lovely video! Xx How magnificent pat Hayes was.....xxx I remember Edna from 71, when i was very young....but was so very impressed by the immeasurable talent of this great actor.
Thank you for this. I "discovered" Patricia many years ago here in America on The Benny Hill Show. She was a scream, especially in a skit where she played a randy older woman who picks up a young male hitchhiker. When she invited him to come stay with her, he asks if there is room for him & she replies, "oh yes, it's a very BIG bed."
My pleasure - Patricia has always been a huge favourite for me! I particularly loved her in Benny Hill and in Till Death! She was hilarious but also great in serious dramatic parts - very underrated I think! Thank you so much for watching the video xx
Love these case histories, wish they were longer. Professionally done and well researched given the time span without the hype and usual sensational narratives. Well done, more please whenever you can.
Another enjoyable video. I particularly like the respect you show to these stars of yesteryear. Patricia Hayes was a household name back in the day, not glamorous nor attention seeking like stars seem to be now, just diligently and humbly doing a job she loved. Very refreshing.
Another wonderful tribute video. Emotive and educational as always. Although they might not know her name, I'm sure more modern audiences would quickly recognise Patricia from classic films such as a Fish Called Wanda and Willow. Growing up, I mainly remember her from comedy roles on television. When I saw Edna for the first time a few years ago I was absolutely astounded by her acting in that tragic tale. The play didn't pull any punches and many scenes were very uncomfortable to watch. It really shone a light on homelessness, mental health problems and addiction when polite society was largely still trying to sweep those issues under the carpet. Being set in the 1960s, I like to believe we've moved on from those times and are a bit more enlightened now but probably not as much as we think we are.
I love this! Thank you so much for your beautiful comment! You’ve really summed up the character of Edna so perfectly ❤ Patricia certainly deserved the awards she received - I’d have loved to have seen her in more leading roles like that ❤ and I agree - we’re still probably not as far toward with the situation as we should be/think we are by now - so sad ❤😢 thank you so much for watching ❤❤❤
Thank You so much for this and I enjoy your method of comprehensively giving the background to the people that you feature.:) One very common and slightly, sad, recurrence is how most of the graves of these famous people are neglected with, barely, visible headstones and no flowers, and yet she had 3 children and died "only" 25 years ago. It's a regular theme, whatever Grave that you see. I compare it to my beloved Mum who died 27 years ago. Akk these children od the famous can't live so far away.
My pleasure, thank you for your lovely comment xx I hear you! I think sometimes the children have moved to other countries - or the person hasn't any family left, there are many cases of that happening - also, I think there are many reasons people dont tend to graves, sometimes I think they find it too upsetting to go, sometimes they are just busy and time goes by too fast. As you know watching my videos, I think graves and memorial are extremely important, and it is heartwarming for me to hear that you are looking after your Mum's grave xx
I remember her playing Kay Harker in the excellent Children's Hour serials "The Midnight Folk" and The Box of Delights" by John Masefield. Sadly the recordings seem to no longer exist.
It's such a shame that so many great recordings were taped over back in the day or lost or destroyed for other reasons - I would have loved to have listened to those recordings! Thank you so much for your lovely comment and for watching - it's greatly appreciated! xxx
I was eleven at the time "The Box of Delights" was broadcast in six episodes, starting in November so the final episode was as close to Christmas as possible. It really was magical with characters I can remember and "hear"to this day, villains Abner Brown and Sylvia Daisy Pounser, Old Rat, Cole Hawlins and of course Patricia's 'Kay Harker' ! The Heely Hutchinson "Christmas Symphony featured throughout made it pretty well perfect. I'm really enjoying your posts, thank you! Best Wishes, Clive
Thank you for this brilliant channel. You speak the life stories so well, so clearly and with real , deficated feeling. With so much AI on youtube and Americans mispronouncing English , it is a privilege to listen to a well spoken, sincerely told life story. THANK YOU FROM MY HEART
She was always wonderful paired with Benny Hill, some of his funniest stuff is just those two together in sketches. Benny clearly respected her very much, as he let her out of our contract of the show so she could do 'Edna The Inebriate Woman', Patricia later payed him back by making a special guest appearance 9 years later on the show.
Thank you for sharing that wonderful insight! Patricia Hayes and Benny Hill indeed had a special chemistry that brought out some of the funniest moments on screen. It's so lovely to hear about Benny Hill's respect for Patricia, allowing her to pursue 'Edna The Inebriate Woman,' and her return to the show later on. They truly made a memorable duo. xxxx
She was a great character actor I loved her in Hancock she was so many things its hard to pin her down to one show film or play. Wonderful video thank you. You did her memory proud.
She was! I think Patricia Hayes was very underated - I grew up watching her - she actually reminded me of my nan - they looked very similar! Patricia was exceptionally talented and dedicated to her work - a true professional - thank you so much for your lovely comment and for watching xx
This woman *Patricia Hayes* was *the original Rambo* . In 1971 Patricia Hayes Made the incredible movie *Edna the inebriated woman* Watch Edna - see the *identical scenes* And identical story and character to *Rambo's first blood* . both Edna and Rambo traumatized by their past. Both prisoners of their *unpleasant memories* *First blood* - amazing film But *Edna* - Just as Good and sad as Rambo first blood..... Good video. Thank you for sharing.
That's an intriguing comparison! It's fascinating to draw parallels between Patricia Hayes' character in 'Edna' and Rambo in 'First Blood.' Both grappling with their past and haunted by memories, yet portrayed in vastly different contexts. It's a testament to the depth of storytelling and the impact of unforgettable characters. I'm thrilled you enjoyed the video, and thank you for sharing your insights! xxxx

Thank you for another well put together video. I first saw Patricia Hayes when I was a child in what was my favourite tv series at the time - Hugh and I. That seems to have vanished from comedy history sadly. Years later I met her very briefly at a petrol station! She was with her then grown-up daughter who I gather is or was an opera singer.
Thanks for this, I only experienced the end of Patricia’s career, it’s lovely to hear about what they did before I was around and you present it all so well. I had no idea she was buried at at Compton Village. Did you go into Watts chapel when you were there? The internal art noveau decorations are breathtaking. Aldous Huxley who wrote ‘Brave New World’ is also buried there.
I did!!!! I didn’t take any video or photos but I did stand there and soak up the atmosphere! It’s absolutely amazing in the chapel! I also visited Aldous Huxley and paid my respects ❤ it’s a truly beautiful place - and The views across the fields are stunning - I didn’t take the dogs in as no dogs allowed but we did walk them near the cafe where they were allowed and they loved it! ❤❤❤ Thank you so much for your lovely comment and for watching ❤❤❤

Also… Dandy Nichols is a special favourite of mine ❤ well… 😂 they all are - I get so excited about them all! Thank you as ever for watching Mark!!! ❤❤❤
@@BeautifulBadandBizarre it’s a pleasure to watch. I sincerely appreciate the hard work you put into making all your fascinating and respectful videos. I can thoroughly recommend a walk with your dogs on the sands at Lunan Bay - they’d absolutely love it. Even in the summer you wouldn’t get more than a couple of dozen people there.
You are so welcome! Thank you so much for your lovely comment and for watching! ❤
I do wish the powers that be would show “Edna, the Inebriate Woman” on television again, it would be wonderful to watch it again! 👍👍👍
The full version is on RUclips! I can’t figure how to put a link on but I will try!

It's on here just type in the title, I'm 10 minutes in watching it, saving the rest for this evening.
What nice little video`s you make, in this Oh so sad world!
Thank you so much xxxx
Thank you for this. I "discovered" Patricia many years ago here in America on The Benny Hill Show. She was a scream, especially in a skit where she played a randy older woman who picks up a young male hitchhiker. When she invited him to come stay with her, he asks if there is room for him & she replies, "oh yes, it's a very BIG bed."
My pleasure - Patricia has always been a huge favourite for me! I particularly loved her in Benny Hill and in Till Death! She was hilarious but also great in serious dramatic parts - very underrated I think! Thank you so much for watching the video xx
I've always been incredibly fond of Patricia Hayes. Loved everything she did. God bless her. xx
She was splendid! I grew up absolutely adoring her xxxx
Love these case histories, wish they were longer. Professionally done and well researched given the time span without the hype and usual sensational narratives. Well done, more please whenever you can.
Thank you for your lovely comment and for watching.
👍🤗@@BeautifulBadandBizarre
Another enjoyable video. I particularly like the respect you show to these stars of yesteryear. Patricia Hayes was a household name back in the day, not glamorous nor attention seeking like stars seem to be now, just diligently and humbly doing a job she loved. Very refreshing.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment - it's much appreciated! and thank you for watching xx
Memories of my childhood....Shows that l had forgotten about.
Thank you again, for another wonderful tribute.
My pleasure! Thank you as ever for watching ❤❤❤
Thank you as always for another wonderful report.
Thank you for your lovely comment and for watching! It’s very much appreciated ❤️❤️❤️
Thank You so much for this and I enjoy your method of comprehensively giving the background to the people that you feature.:)
One very common and slightly, sad, recurrence is how most of the graves of these famous people are neglected with, barely, visible headstones and no flowers, and yet she had 3 children and died "only" 25 years ago.

Thanks for your kind comments and Good Luck:)
From Edna, I'll never forget her saying 'I am not the vagrant', magnificent actress
I really, really enjoyed that film. Thank you very much
You're so welcome - thank you so much for your lovely comment! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video - thank you for watching! xxxx
I feel weepy, you do so well with all of this, 🙏🏼💔❤️
Thank you so much - I always find it’s an emotional journey ❤❤❤
I did watch carry on again doctor her character was really funny and she was a really amazing actress she was loved by all RIP Patrica Hayes xx

Thank you for this brilliant channel. You speak the life stories so well, so clearly and with real , deficated feeling. With so much AI on youtube and Americans mispronouncing English , it is a privilege to listen to a well spoken, sincerely told life story. THANK YOU FROM MY HEART
Oh!!! You have absolutely made my day! Thank you so very much - your comment is truly appreciated! ♥♥♥ Thank you for watching! xx
Nice to remember her
She was very talented x
@@BeautifulBadandBizarre I bet she was shar
They truly made a memorable duo. xxxx
How sad it is to lose people like Patricia Hayes. I loved her as Mrs Cravat on Hancocks half hour.
Such talent - I totally agree! Thank you so much for watching ❤

In 1971
Patricia Hayes Made the incredible movie *Edna the inebriated woman*
Watch Edna - see the *identical scenes* And identical story and character to *Rambo's first blood* .
both Edna and Rambo traumatized by their past. Both prisoners of their *unpleasant memories*
*First blood* - amazing film
But
*Edna* - Just as Good and sad as Rambo first blood.....
I'm thrilled you enjoyed the video, and thank you for sharing your insights! xxxx
this sounds like a quality life. good to hear non tragic, descent seeming people and some of their fates and achievments and normal joys'
Yes I think she over came life’s challenges admirably and kept her feet on the ground ❤️🥰

Thank you so much for your lovely comment! And thank you for watching ❤❤❤ 🥰
I remember her in many productions, although one sticks out ... she contributed to "On The Move" the 1970s educational program, encouraging older people in learning to read.
Enjoyed it so much as usual
Thank you so much!!!! ❤️❤️🌹
What a truly lovely lady. Thanks so much for sharing!
My pleasure! Thank you for watching! ❤️
Her acting in Edna The Inebriate Woman was worthy of BAFTA.
She was brilliant! ❤️
Bumping thread. I watched this the other day. She looked somewhat familiar. So I went looking for works by Patricia Hayes. I found the sitcom (Till Death Us Do Part). Her acting style has aged well and is very enjoyable. Thank you once again.

What a wonderful & incredibly talented lady ❤️
I agree! Thank you so much for your comment and for watching! ❤❤❤
Thank you so much for your lovely comment and for watching ❤❤❤
I was waiting for a friend outside the Queen's Hotel in my home town of Leeds for a night out (as you do). Then before my friend arrived, some old lady got out of a taxi and it was Patricia Hayes! That was my out of the blue encounter with her on that fateful Tuesday evening...
Oh that’s wonderful! Jayne Mansfield stayed at that hotel too!
