Actually the Beatles initially were punks. When Brian Epstein saw them and signed them, he gave them their sophisticated look and attitude. He made them look classy. But their initial looks was jeans, leather suits and boots. But Brian wasn’t wrong, if he didn’t clean them up the British Invasion May have never happened. Unrelated: Ed Sullivan was at heathrow airport and thousands of fans were there waiting for the Beatles to come back from a tour somewhere in Europe. He assumed it was the queen returning to England. When he found out it we for the Beatles he immediately got in touch with Brian for them to come to his show in America. Who knows if the Beatles ever break America If Ed wasn’t in the airport at that time. Once the Beatles blew the doors off, other bands were able to come here to be discovered and enjoyed, including the stones. Beatles.
The Beatles even gave The Stones a song so they could have a hit . After that , it gave Jagger & Richards the kick up the backside they needed to start writing their own songs . As for the question : The Beatles , by a country mile . Longevity is not the mark of greatness . The Beatles ' body of work over 7 years of recording together is nothing short of astonishing . The best pop/rock band ever .
Not close. The Beatles, in 9 years, recorded 200+ songs, with maybe at least 40-50 being absolutely iconic. And their influence is seen in every genre. The Stones have done this for 50 years, and don’t have half the iconic songs as the Beatles.
also a lot of beatles songs sound the same, go listen to sweet virginia/dear doctor by stones than switch brown sugar. tell me the beatles could do that.. lol van zandt said it perfectly, beatles were some harmony but if you wanted to get down you listened to the stones
and tbh im never gonna listen to music and just start playing heu jude/let it be or hello goodbye type beatles songs. sorry those are just annoying to me now a days. even tho theyre good. i can do beatles songs like get back day tripper sgt peppers
Beatles. I don't think the Beatles copied the Stones, but the Stones sure as hell copied the Beatles. Their first hit was even written by them. And they gave it to Ringo.
There's only one correct answer to this: Beatles. They did more worth remembering in 10 years than the Stones have done in 50 years. Give it to the Stones for longevity, but not much else.
i mean if the stones dont qualify as anything more than longevity than what are the other bands to you? stones are arguably most successful band ever..
I'm hard pressed to name a single band that was directly influenced by the Stones. The black crowes maybe? EVERYONE was influenced by the Beatles, including the Stones.
Not where the Beatles got there name. The name comes from the motorcycle gang in the film “The Wild One” who where called the Beetles different spelling.
I never looked at it that way when Van Zandt explains that there really wasn't this thing called a band before the Beatles.
Just when I thought I was out
Rolling Stones pull me back in
I said my piece Chrissy!

I never realized how fake his Sopranos accent is until I saw him out of character.
Sophisticated answer. He was also old enough to be around at the time to have gotten a good sense of things,
Beach Boys were around at the time.
They were the first punks, really
The Beatles were the first punks in Hamburg.

Both legends ,but stones for me.
Stones beatles plus the doors all brill
The styles to me aren’t really the same outsider of when the stones would copy the Beatles for a few albums in the 60’s

But the Stones have something the Beatles didn't, attitude.

Obviously The Beatles, without the beatles no stones
Beatles. I don't think the Beatles copied the Stones, but the Stones sure as hell copied the Beatles. Their first hit was even written by them. And they gave it to Ringo.

Great, your opinion.

He should have just said: Zeppelin.
I do not agree with his reason he gave for picking the Stones. I expected a better thought out analysis of this.
Zeppelin.
I'm really surprised that the 2 bands was being compared.. beatles is way way better and popular than the stones of course..
Stones are not as pretentious as Beatles.
