  • In this episode, I’m going to review the new Volcom Modulator 5/4/3 hooded chest zip wetsuit. This is one of the best wetsuits I’ve ever had and it’s worth every penny.
    The Volcom modulator is very stretchy and it's made from the highest grade limestone based neoprene. It's very light (3.6 Lb/1.6 Kg).
    I literally don’t feel that I’m wearing a 5/4 wetsuit and it provides an incredible full range of motions.
    A quick-dry thermal liner is decently soft with a nice feel and the blind stitched seams feel really strong.
    I’ve put around 20 sessions into this wetsuit and it still looks new, no tears on cuffs or seams from top to the bottom which is incredible. I usually pee into this wetsuit every session and the funny fact, it doesn’t absorb it as much as my Xcel Drylock. So, if you pee into your wetsuit, then you are definitely gonna have a bit less weight while surfing.
    I was really comfortable before the water temperature dropped below 40 degrees. After that my butt started to feel cold. So I wear two pairs of Xcel undershorts to feel warmer.
    Since this wetsuit doesn’t have thick panels in the back, I avoid wearing it when the wind is howling over 15 mph offshore with the windchill below 20 degrees. So, for polar vortex days, I prefer to wear my Xcel Drylock which does an amazing job keeping me warm no matter how cold it is.
    The wetsuit is true to size based on the chart from the Volcom website.
    My Height: 5’9” or 175.3 cm
    Weight: 155 lbs. or 70.3 kg
    The Medium Short size fits me perfect.
    I think this is a great wetsuit that can easily last for two seasons and cover different types of weather conditions. It has an amazing flexibility for performance and it comes with high quality and lightweight.

    Hi, I've been following you for a long time and everything in your videos has always been spectacular. The sessions are great, the quality is fantastic, your explanations are clear... this channel is absolutely brilliant and you helped me a lot with the majority of my curiosities about the world of surfing, thank you so much. Anyway, I would like to make a suggestion (if it's not a problem): I'm convinced that you can add a really funny video on your channel to show some of the funniest things happened while surfing or swimming, it can be something like a "oops and bloopers" compilation. For example, you could make a compilation of all of the moments where you or your friends get "caught" on video while peeing in the water (my uncle relieved himself in a surfing session while he was waiting for a wave and that was hilarious, he always says there are 2 types of surfers and swimmers: those who pee in the water and those who lie), you can also include those moments in the future videos just to keep having a bit of humour on your channel, you can use both old and new clips what do you think? I'd be so so happy to watch it, let me know, bye!

      Thanks for the suggestion and kind words! I’ll think about it and see if I can figure out the way to add some funny moments. It’s actually pretty cold right now and most people come get a few waves and leave quickly. Thanks again for the feedback! Cheers🤙🏼

    Im thinking about buying this for 300 its a good price point. For winter surfing in Rhode Island. Then hop in my 4/3 once it warms up in spring again.

    looks very flexible but not a warm as other 5/4. Question, is it 3 in arms and 4 in legs?

    • @SkipperSurfReview
      @SkipperSurfReview  4 месяца назад +1

      Yes, I agree, it’s not the warmest wetsuit. It’s fits better between winter and spring or spring into the winter. You’re right with 3 arms and 4 mm legs.

    Hi, new suscriptor from Argentina. Nice review!, How was the durability? I found a super good deal to buy this wetsuit for 225 USD

    • @SkipperSurfReview
      @SkipperSurfReview  6 месяцев назад

      Hey there! Thanks for the follow! I appreciate it. Regarding the durability, I've found it to be quite impressive. I'd say it can easily last two seasons with proper care. What's the coldest day/water temperature you're considering for surfing?

    • @kelocuras
      @kelocuras 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@SkipperSurfReview Thanks for the response :). Here in Mar Del Plata, Argentina, during August (winter here), the water temperature can reach 50 F. Unfortunately, the volcom modulator ran out of stock in my size. But I will probably go for an O'Neill Ninja Hooded 5/4 since it is also on a really good deal, and you were talking really well about the brand.

      For sure. Matuse Tumo model could be a great option for a long term. I have Matuse Tumo 4/3 (Geoprene) since 2014 and it's still holding well. No holes or anything.

      Thank you, Abner. I think you should consider ML.. By the way, two months ago, I got O'Neil Hyperfreak 5/4 and I would highly recommend checking it out. I didn't do any reviews on it but if I have to buy another wetsuit, then it will be this model. It's durable, light, warm and stretchy. It's only $100 more expensive than Volcom. There is no need to buy expensive wetsuits anymore such as Xcel Drylock etc.. which comes with low quality!

      @@AbnerLi yes, this one with Technobutter 3 technology. There is also HYPERFREAK 4/3+MM CHEST ZIP FULL WETSUIT which could be great between transitions from Winter to Spring or Fall to Winter. I'll see either one goes on sale... I will grab probably two to replace my Xcel Drylock and Volcom Modulator.

      @UCEl5Jpk2rJ4fq5s5w21-jAA I believe all wetsuits with the "COMP" are thinner and provide more performance but less warmth. If you live in SoCal, that would work fine but not for the NorthEast when the temps drop down below 0 sometimes.

      @@SkipperSurfReview I live in Vancouver now and will go to Tofino to surf later. So I'm seriously thinking of getting a warmer wetsuit. I learnt to surf in Hawaii last year and never wear a wetsuit before. Thanks for the advice! I think I will get the Hyperfreak 5/4 at this time~
