Hey everyone and welcome back to another vivarium build! What do you think? This setup came with a lot of obstacles, but that allowed me to demonstrate new techniques that I haven’t shown yet. Of course you get a little update on the other two vivs from the conversion series as well, which are doing great. Also, sorry for getting in a lot of the shots, it was pretty difficult to build in this space without blocking the camera. Usually I can film from the sides of the enclosure. You're probably wondering when I'm going to stock these. I will be doing it probably in late summer. I want to finish a few looming projects first and I have to rearrange my room... again! SerpaDesign would it be okay to put a snake plant in this because i am planning on using this for a crested gecko and it would make a good hide spot and a dew drop collector

I'm listening to lectures online so I have this video muted and on 1.5 speed, and every once in a while I see the fish tank in the background, but at 1.5 speed the fish are buzzing around like they're all hyped up on coffee and it's amazing. 10:05 (the tank is pretty impressive, too ;) )

This is my new favorite series! Can't wait to try this with a 20 for my gargoyle gecko! Needs a few tweaks for him to be perfect, but it's amazing and super helpful!!
I think it looks sweet! surely will be greater when it grows in. I like that you used the husk fibers. I just built my first tank that has foam background and sides, but ran out of foam half way up sides so just siliconed, and added crushed coco fiber to its entirety after siliconing. came out fairly nice, especially for my first try, but the panels you used would have worked better. will use those in the future. superglue was surprising to see in this video, but definitely easy and something I will use in the future as well. thanks for posting!
Carnivorous plant terrariums are really hard to make, almost every carnivorous plant needs a couple hours of direct sunlight a day to survive/thrive. and where the tropical species need high temp and high humidity, the temperate species need lower temps and a dormant period during the winter at which the temps need to drop below 12C for the plants to survive. i have tried multiple times to make one, some succesful, some not. and even the ones where it was succesful they grew and survived but didnt thrive. now im keeping them in a bog garden outside year long and they are doing perfect :p
Been studying your terrariums and was also hoping for an orchid one too but will make do as i am starting mine this month and researching ideas and ways of doing it..back to your video..
Hey bro. You’re about to explode in the rare plant community. I would suggest making vertical vivarium/terrariums specifically for plants! I just purchased a 40 breeder and an “I geckos” but now I’m not talented like you are and don’t know what type of materials used to make a safe vivarium for my rare plants, like anthuriums, philodendrons and Monsteras!!! Please make a video! I could definitely use your help on this project! Im thinking of add a Philo Melanochrysum, Philo Whote Princess, Monstera Albo Variegata and some other rare plants to just pop out more color!!!
Nice job! I find that it takes about 6mos to a year before the tank is mature. So I like it sparse to start with or otherwise I am trimming like crazy down the road. I love the look of this rock background and may try this at some point. Thanks for the wonderful videos you create and I remain an avid fan :-)

I think next time you do something like this, try to make all 3 of them look like 1 big one. Carry the background and hardscape through the glass. I think that would be pretty cool.

I truly love your work. My grandson of 12 and I are planning on trying to build one for poison dart or arrow frogs. I am researching and needing advice on how much work and how often a week to do all the little things, like growing isopods and wingless fruitflies, to keep a steady healthy supply. I have watched you quite a bit and wonder if you have a book or written instructions for the care of these tanks and little creatures and the cost of the book or papers. Or if you could send me to a place I can get it or speak to someone not worried about a sale as much as guiding someone with true knowledge. Thank you bunches.
I might have been able to make two vivariums if I had done this. The one 18x18x24" exo terra, for a crested gecko, I built cost over $750! That includes tank and a $80 four tiered wire rack and $120 for the lizard. Still, super super expensive. I doubt I ever would've gone through with it, or gotten a crested gecko, had I known what it would cost.
That super glue planting method is interesting. I can see how it's beneficial when trying to train a plant to grow onto your hardscape, but for the life of me I can't understand why you didn't just use wire staples when attaching the creeping fig to the coco fiber. It looked like you had to deal with gluing your skewer in place a few times, among other issues, like waiting for the glue to dry between applications. Is there another benefit to this method that I'm perhaps just not getting? I'd be interested to see some videos on humidity control & ventilation. My first dart frog vivarium has been planted for about a week now, and it's clear that my 1.5" wide vent along the back is insufficient to achieve cycles of humidity- it easily remains near 100% down near the floor, but I'd like to see it drop to 60-70% between mistings. So now I have ordered a muffin fan and a humidistat controller that I hope will solve the issue. Since hygrometers are notoriously unreliable _within_ a misted environment, I intend on running the fan based on the humidity _outside_ of the vivarium, and it will blow outside air in provided the humidity in the room is at least _n_%. Please stop me if you think this may be a mistake!
You should try keeping chameleons. They are great display animals and looks gorgeous in terrariums. If you make ventilation on the bottom and on the top, it will be enough. I successfully keep panther chams like that in planted glass vivariums. I would love to see you building chameleon vivarium.
How do you light the tops if they're glass? I need the inside of mine to reach 85 degrees or so. Can I just cut that side of the silicone, pull off the panel and attach chicken wire? Or does pulling off a panel take away from the foundation?
Hi love your video but I have a quick question 😉 I just purchased a huge aquarium and I would like to transform it into a vivarium but there is a problem and I cant figure how to transform it because my aquarium isn’t perfectly rectangle. To of it corners are rounded off. Can you please help me please I can give you the measurements of the tank and show you a picture if you are up to the task to find a solution Thank you 😊
I assume that it's a bow front aquarium? If so, you will have to buy or create a custom lid. That type of tank won't be suitable for a vertical conversion (like this), but you could make a nice viv in it.
Yes it could be a gorgeous vivarium. But I can’t figure out how to make the top and before I start decorating with plants and customizing it I need to build a top lol 😂 but I have some ideas but I would like to know if you have some ideas to help me realise my dream vivarium
Hey I was wondering if over stocking would be putting 4 dwarf rili shrimp , 6 Phoenix rasboras ,and one mystery snail with all live plant in a 10 gallon tank those are my plans for my 10 gallon but I don't know if it would be over stocking
Depends on who you ask. I think you'd be fine with that, just keep up with your water changes and go dense with the plants. However, I'd recommend going for a nerite snail or two instead of a mystery snail.
that opening door wonder if i could do that with wire instead of polycarbonate? my original thought was wire door inside wire outside area. but i could go with wire door inside polycarbonate outside peice...hmm..?

UpperGoon there are some that are called air plants and they get their water from the humidity and also misting

Great Vid! Quick question, do the plants get enough uvb to grow even thought the lights are filtered by glass?
I don't even use UVB lights on these tanks and they do fabulous. If I did though, I'm sure that a great deal of it would be filtered out.
How did you place the bulbs on top of the glass without the glass cracking??
