I once stayed at a hotel where there was recently a flood so the bottom walls were stained with water the ground was mushy and smelt of mold. Mosquitos EVERYWHERE and I dropped something under the bed and went to grab it and touched something squishy and fuzzy. Mold....It was quite a while ago and near Kansas. I’m traumatized

I stayed at a fleabag hotel in the New Orleans area for one night. I had a feeling seedy people have died in the room I was tiptoeing in and left things hidden in the room where cleaning ladies are scared to go. Took out my swiss army knife and unscrewed the vent cover and found $5,000 in cash in a paper bag!! The place has been renovated now and the surrounding area has finally cleaned up its act. The moral of the story, carry a pocketknife wherever you go!!!!

Earlier this year my husband had lost his job and to top it off we had just got evicted but luckily it was tax time so we had to stay in a hotel 15 minutes from where my job for a month. The hotel was nightmare. The room service only came 4 times out of our month of staying there, it looked gross and dangerous, there was a smashed roach on the wall, the bed was like sleeping on steel people at the front desk were so rude. We did end up staying in another hotel for two nights afterwards that had the best bed I ever slept on. Then we moved into our new place.

Mine was a motel... but it's called Tradewinds Motel and it's in Ocean City New Jersey. There was black mold in the bathroom, there was socks under the bed, The pool was so small that 10 people wouldn't fit, The electricity goes out regularly (Fried my moms flat iron), and they have bad staff (The lady who you book rooms with is so snobby). I'm never going back there the black mold was the worst part!

I stayed in one near Pittsburg several times. (Same place, different times.) The most recent time I went there, I found a cockroach on a desk that was in the room. I also had a thing that blew cool air into my face when I tried to sleep. (And it was really loud O-o) They were renovating it, so it was a bit nicer on the side I was on, but when we walked down the hall we saw one or two open rooms with some cleaning stuff outside of them. Also, there was a shower with a tub and the tub didn't drain right. The bathroom door also had paint chipping off of it with rust.
I forgot if it was last time or not, but once the carpet in the hallway was wet and squishy.

Well I spent part of my childhood in Tanzania. This was in the early 90s, before the relative economic boom in this country recently.
It's hard to pick out a single place, so let's just say this. It was custom that if someone went to the bathroom in a public place (like a restaurant), they got the question "how was it" upon returning. As in, people reflexively inquired on how the bathroom rated on a scale from decent to OH GOD, NO!
This was so common that I didn't reflect upon it. It was not until I returned to Sweden and I realized that that it struck me that that question was kinda weird.

I've never been to those hotels, but my worst experience (or experiences, since I've been here twice) is the Hyatt in New Orleans. Not only did we have to relocate three or more times because none of the rooms were handicap-accessible for me (I'm in a wheelchair, and I can't walk.), but the rooms had roaches, and Housekeeping decided to not only disregard our "Do Not Disturb" Sign and come in while I was in the room putting my costume on, but she had latex (which I'm severely allergic to) gloves on while she was cleaning, and she didn't speak any language I know, so I couldn't communicate with her. Our "Do Not Disturb" Sign was also moved, so we think the housekeeper moved it, since it was outside the door on the outside handle before she came, and it was on the inside handle when she left. (The smell was so strong that I was itchy, so I had to leave the room.) If the convention that we go to every year ends up being at the same hotel, I'm not going because of both experiences, with this one being worse than the last one. (The convention itself was fantastic, though.)

I stayed with my mom at a motel on the west end of Apple Valley California, since we couldn’t get home after her car broke down. It was $50 and tax in June 2001 (about $70 now) And this place did feel like a motel from the 1950s. The decor was straight out of the era, the exterior looked the part, the front door didn’t even have a deadbolt or security latch, just a basic door lock. That and the pool was closed by the health department! Yeah that place was pretty bad at the time.
    They’ve closed down now.

I stayed at a hotel in New Orleans one time, where the room we were supposed to stay in had a used condom under the edge of the bed. My boyfriend went to turn the covers down and stepped on it WITH HIS BARE FOOT!! Needless to say, we were moved to a much nicer suite which was spotless. UGH!

So my worst hotel was right after my friend, his mom, and me, visited Legoland to celebrate the end of the school year. The first floor was under renovation, which wasn't all that bad, but when we got our room, I was so glad my friends mom used to do room service because she sprayed the beds with some cleaning freshener and luckily before we settled down she found hair in the beds, to make things worse at that moment my friend and I found sugar ants on the walls. We got moved to a different room which was much better but didn't have hot water. At about three A.M. everyone on the floor was woken up by three drunk teens at most only 17 ran around knocking on doors, screaming, and worst of all, trying to break in. That's right, they fiddled with the doorknob while my friends mom stayed close to the door. Once they moved on she phoned downstairs and a worker came up, the guys ran but he caught their faces and said he would alert their parents. The staff was great though, they deserved so much better, but the policy was dumb, the hotel said since they were under renovation the breakfast bar was closed, but rewards members got food anyways. Plus the elevator rattled no matter how heavy the people or luggage inside were.

The Hotel Sutton in Manhattan, NYC. It was my first trip to NYC and the website claim it was clean. It wasn't and the communal shower had moss and mold on its edges. It had hourly rates posted at it's front desk when I checked in. Plus side it was near Grand Central, walking distance to Times Square, and near the NYC central subway station.

The worst hotel I've been to was a Comfort Inn we stayed at back in 2004. The place was extremely run down, there were leaks everywhere, no elevator (it was a 4 story building), the exterior cladding was deteriorating to the point you could see the brick work underneath, there was hair all over the floor, and to top it off, the window for our room had a giant crack in it!

  • @anakarenmiller8753

I'm a university counselor, and one time we where asked to travel for an important meeting, and the university paid everything (the bus, our meals and our hotel). We where about 30 people and we where divided and sent by groups to different hotels. The directives where sent to a nice hotel, the guy students where sent to a really horrible motel (at least from the outside, I didn't see its inside). And us girl students where sent to another one. It was awful. I was so embarrassed to be seen by anyone entering this hotel. The room had a mini-split, but it barely worked and dripped water on a table under it. The bathroom wasn't exactly clean and the bath tube was almost like a fungus garden. The sheets of the bed where ragged and dusty. I didn't even want to sleep in them. When I could fall asleep I dreamt that there where bugs in the bed and they made my skin itch. When my roommates and I woke up at morning I talked to them about the dream and we just kind of laughed hopping it was only a dream and it didn't happen in reality. But as one of them was getting ready, she said "hey, you won't believe this, but there really are bugs on the bed" as she saw a little black bug on it in a grossed out tone. I was watching TV laying on that same bed and I jumped out in horror when she said that. Our other roomate just couldn't stand it anymore and said "That's it! We are leaving this room right now!" We all agreed and took our stuff to the lobby and waited for the bus that would arrive 3 hours later. We preferred to wait in that lobby without any AC than to stay in that disgusting room.

Ahoyhoy there, Fellow RUclipsrino! The Kawanis house is the worst public place I've stayed at . I got a measle like rash all over my body in less than five minutes of being present in the room and I hadn't yet set down my bags let alone set on the bed or chairs. The service was honest though, they said if it was that bad that quickly and I was being honest about my rash, I should stay somewhere else and they did search the room for the origin of what was causing my irritation . So, they were trying. It was actually a pretty adorable and well decorated place, i just had some sort of reaction to something in that particular room .

Two friends and I booked two rooms at a hotel directly across the gate from an Air Force base in the Midwest. They took one together and I took a separate one. After checking in I went to my room and found it rather grimy. I walked over to my friends room, knocked, and started to gripe about the condition of my room when I was flabbergasted to realize that their room had what looked like a huge black oil stain on the threadbare carpet, clumps of yellow clay all over the floor, and a three legged bed, with one end supported by a stack of phone books! I spent the next two hours finding a vacancy at another hotel.

I went to a hotel in Virginia along the way to Florida. This was a Days Inn. Other hotels nearby were booked so this was our only choice. In the lobby it stunk. We went to the room to approach an unpleasant smell of pot. When I went over to the bathroom it stunk of pee. Another haunted part, when you laid in the middle of the bed, something would hurt you. I got up immediately when I felt it. Me and my sister switched spots and she also felt it. We got in the car and drove over to the lobby. My mom asked for money back, they did not give us our money back so we called the cops on them. There were no more hotels open, so we had to sleep in the car.

My family and I stayed there once, and they charge outrageous prices for rooms that aren't even bedbug-free. Also, they let guests go without showering for almost 2 weeks because the owners were too cheap to fix the water in a timely manner!

I worked at a hotel very briefly (6 months) and a couple nasty things happened that made me go...
    "huuuuuuh".
1: Cleaning lady was using toilet water (clean, but still.) to clean the mirrors in the bathrooms. She did get in trouble, but who knows who else is doing that.
2: They used white spray paint on the mattresses to cover up stains (sometimes blood) to avoid having to replace the mattress. Freak gross.
I left not long after I witnessed those things. Also the job was just terrible.
Mad respect to those who do it and do it correctly!

Cheroco Motel in Cheroca Pass CA where our rental car died. We called it "Even The Flies Won't Stay Inn." Houskeeper remade our beds without chaging the sheets after two preschoolers danced around on them with dirty feet. Moldy bathroom, NEVER cleaned. Bad air conditioning. We had to move out at noon, waiting for replacement rental car. It was 100 degrees outside and they charged us for water. My mother bought a nice big lunch at their diner, sicked the health department on them and reported on this place to her credit card Co. She got ALL her money back.

There was stains everywhere and the toilets were rusty and only had one because the other one was broken and some sort of handprint on the wall and there was no warm air conditioning and three bulbs were broken but I was 8 then so I don't remember much except that the people said it was from the 1950s. I stayed at a bad hotel once, I think it was in Pennsylvania or Virginia. I was around seven years old and we stayed there for two nights. The hotel was dirty, there were stains on blankets, the shower made this high pitched whistling noise when you turned it on, and my grandparents found something in their room. I still don't know what that thing was. They had this little breakfast bar in the lobby and the food was rubbery and it just overall looked weird. That hotel is the main reason I'm a germaphobe today.

I don't have a disgusting hotel to share, but I have a poorly maintained hotel story to share, so here you go!
I like to stay at a hotel while am on summer break. They gave us a room on the second floor. It wasn't clean. There were towles EVERYWHERE on the floor, and the lights were still on. We then went down on the not sounding so good elevator and got another room on the third floor. We got to our room and it was clean. I saw a crack on the glass picture frame. Mom and I got our swimsuits on and went down the elevator and finally found the pool. It had a sign that said out of service on it and mom got furious. We asked the people at the front desk if we could be transferred to another hotel this franchise here in Longview.. He said no. He should have said yes. There was a comfort suites not to far from the hotel. So yeah.

When I was ten, my family and I travelled to some small town near the middle of nowhere in Florida for vacation. We stayed in an old, run down motel. On our second night there, after going to sleep with no electricity in the room, we heard a loud scream a few doors down. Apparently a dead body had been found under a young woman's bed. 10/10 would stay there again

    [Cat clinic]
Cat: doctor, I have a problem.
    Dr. Cat: what is it?
Cat: I have been awake more than 20 minutes.
Dr. Cat: *is napping*. Now, the disgusting hotel I went to.
When Pringle was 6 years old, my mom and sister stayed at a motel 6 near an airport while my grandpa stayed in the other room. We had to go there because we had a REALLY early flight. Now, the place was really fucking dirty. There were broken faucets, maids that would leave cigarette butts, and the walls were COVERED IN SHIT! My mom was so disgusted that we had to leave our shoes on and buy new ones when we got to our destination! Since my mom had chicken pox when she was little, I somehow didn’t get it. That being said, the maid just burst into the door to throw her cigarette butts when I realized I was covered in bites. There were bed bugs in the mattress! I was horrified. We were so mad my mom just knockout punched the maid. We left without paying and when we got there, airport security stopped us because we had chicken pox. We explained it were bedbug bites. To this day, I still don’t trust cheap motels.

I once stayed in a hotel somewhere near Yellowstone and it was pretty bad.
I dont remember the name of it but boy do i remember that room.
Basically, my mother checked us in as we were there as tourist to see the park. It already had looked like a run down, off the beaten path kinda place from the outside, but even more so when you walked in the room.
The A/C was broken and hanging partially out of the wall. Just enough to let snow in the room and freeze the place. The window looked like it had seen better days and better sun rays. The tv worked but had a crack going through it and the whole room smelled like vomit. Just straight vomit.
I went to go pee in the bathroom as my mom was calling the front desk and i freaked out. There was a dead rat in the toilet and it looked like it had been there a while. It was so decomposed it was half slushed flesh in water which was almost frozen over.
Needless to say, we ran out and went to find a different place to sleep for the night. We ended up going to the next town over and sleeping at a comfort inn.
We don't go through that town anymore when we visit Yellowstone.

Stayed at a hotel about 3 years ago in Willits Ca, and the whole floor stank of urin. To top it off, somebody had broken into the room through the window and left their bags there. We got offered a different room that had been recently renovated and tbh, that room was ok.

    My worst hotel story:
My family went to San Antonio for my 11th birthday. The hotel was actually really good, clean, and fancy. So we went to bed. Around 1:00, there were some SUPER drunk teens partying really loud in the room next to us, waking us up. My dad called the front desk multiple times to get them to shut up. They wouldn't stop, and they kept me up until around 2:45. I was super tired the next day.

Sand hill motel in monahans Texas was so horrible the whole police force would constantly go there because of alcohol, drug dealing, prostitution, gun violence, and gambling. The owner was sent to prison and his son reopened the place run down. There was still smells of drugs, there was a huge hole in the bathtub causing water to leak out, and the bed sheets smelled like urine.

Man came in and said something and just went out again, I am still scarred 😫

Just pay the extra money to stay somewhere else 😂😂

The worst hotel I have stayed in is not as bad as any of these, but it was The Watana in Bangkok. I got a rash while there, possibly from the detergent they used (although I've never had sensitive skin issues prior to this) or possibly it had something to do with the wildlife in the room. A lizard got in as the cleaners used to leave the balcony door wide open after they'd been and there were ants in the sink. There were stains on the towels and sheets. The air conditioner leaked. It sometimes seemed like the cleaners had just squirted the "bum gun" around the bathroom instead of actually cleaning it. However, the food was pretty good, most of the staff were nice, the location was convenient and it was cheap.

The wort hotel I have ever stayed in was either a Motel 6 that was in Miles City, Montana, or a LaQuinta inn in California. I'm going to have to go with the motel 6 tho. There was only 1 bed but they told us the room included 2. So the other 3 family members and I had to pile on one bed for 9 hours strait. And don't reply to me saying "Ohhhhh but that's a Motel not a hotel..." And blah blah blah.

    Ok, so...
When I was little (forgot how young...maybe...8?) my dad had booked a small cabin (Charlie's Place) in the woods near a pond for us to stay in for a week. We bought fire wood (Which had wasps in it, and this part isn't very important, I just wanted to throw it in here) and we also bought some marshmallows, chips, cereal, coffee, stuff that didn't need a fridge. When we got there, the drive way was very long and bumpy. When we went inside, it was a small cabin with a few rooms and a loft. (The loft had two beds. One for me and my bro while my parents slept in one of the rooms) The ladder up to the loft looked kinda old and was made of wood nailed to wood, so I didn't trust it very much. There was mildew in the cabin since it was very moist in there. when I finally got up to the loft, I saw a TON of dead bugs in the window sills. There were even several large moths. (Which I felt bad for TT-TT) Later, I found a mouse trap (Sticky kind) with a dead mouse on it. The cabin was fish themed, since there was a pond where you could fish. we had brought or fishing poles to fish, but when we did my brother got some sort of frog egg sack on his hook, and no one else caught anything, since there were only frogs. They had a fire pit, a hot tub, and a lake close by, so that was a plus side, but after a few nights, a mouse had gotten into our jumbo marshmallows and Doritos. There was also a TV, but there were NO PHONES! I don't even think there was cellphone service out there, so if something bad happened, we were on our own. WORST. VACATION. EVER!

The worst I have stayed in was called the York Motel in Lyons, Georgia, USA. It was $25 a night, we had to wait for a pregnant girl with an attitude and her boyfriend who looked more high than she did, to wake up in the LATE morning to clean the already available room that should've been cleaned. We wait over an hour just for them to get up. Then we waited another hour or so for them to clean it. Once we got in the room, though I wondered what took so long. There were over a dozen house flies in the bathroom, NO TOILET PAPER, no wash cloths, towels or even hand soap, and the floor hadn't been swept in a while. But the worst of it was the fact that there was a used condom just barely under the edge of the bed and what looked like a very large crusty "love" stain on the bed covers. The A/C didn't work and it was July in mid 90° humid weather and the bed sheets had someone else's hair in them and the pillow. Has GOT to be the worst in the USA.

worst hotel i've been in? Jurys Inn Waterfront in Brighton, England. They don't wash the sheets, so it's very likely i slept under a blacklight jackson pollock painting for the six nights i spent there. to top it off, the sensors for the fire alarm mistook a heater for a fire. the alarms went off once, but they dismissed it. when it went off again, they evacuated the whole building! At 4 in the morning, when i learned that the sun rises about that time in late July in Brighton. Another hotel let us hang in their lobby until the problem was solved.

Worst hotel I've ever been in? About an hour from the Alaska-Canada border on the Canada side, it had particle board veneer for walls, a single shared bathroom, and something kept scurrying around under the bed/floor all night. But what could I do? There was a solid layer of snow on the ground, I couldn't keep my eyes open behind the wheel, and trying to sleep in my car would have been certain death from hypothermia. I didn't sleep much, but at least I didn't freeze to death.

Worst hotel I've ever been to was some hotel I can't remember the name of. Here's the flaws:
    1. Mean employee charges my mom for a large room, then gave us the smallest in the hotel
    2. Pool was slimy and gross
    3. Pool was a safety hazard(it was filled more than it said)
    4. Water was brown and unusable
    5. Room REEKED of smoke
    6. Pillows and sheets were yellow
    7. Room was BOILING despite it being JULY.
