His horn has 5 valves. It has a trigger (F/Bb like every other double horn), but the fifth valve is a stop valve, so basically it is designed so you can press it and then use handstopping with normal horn fingerings instead of having to finger a semitone down (because the stop valve lowers the horn by a semitone). However, in this case he uses the stop valve to put the instrument in A instead of Bb (he is using Bb side of the horn), then he plays using A fingerings
@@somebody9033 Thanks for the info! I assumed that one of the valves was a stop valve but I’ve never seen anyone use the stop valve without actually stopping
Thanks. Interesting fingerings.

Did he put his horn into E or something? Very different sound too

@@Lostkin413 can be very useful playing music in E or A (for example Weber concertino)
paxman 71 F/Bb/highF/E+/A+/high Eb
he is playing in E, apparently he uses the
second valve as alternate fingering for D natural (C#)
Solo horn: Odd Ulleberg
Just compare this Firebird Finale to Gerard Schwarz & his All Star Orchestra's 1st horn soloist...nothing can match his solo!
