@@GMahlerVerehrer Indeed. The BPO has a number of vacant principal positions so it's been wonderful to have so many terrific guests in recent concerts. Falk Maertens was the principal trumpet last weekend when Herbert Blomstedt conducted Bruckner's 5th and they gave Andrej Zust the chance to act as principal horn recently as well.
Petrenko is perfection. He has so much joy and he doesn’t leave anything on the podium. This was one of my favorite versions of Firebird. I love all of his choices.
The rare intimacy of the French horn solo, the perfect gradual crescendo, the "tribal" timpanist, the singing sunrise of Frau Clara, the epic organ-like brass harmonies, the sweet strings tremolo, the "old time" elegant and round power of the orchestra, the joyful intellect and humanity of Petrenka. Perfection!
How many of you agree that the conductor was doing his job with all his heart, and not just his genius? The band was unquestionably talented but I loved the way he ended the music with the poise. Hats off to the legends living in another part of the world.
This orchestra is not only the best on the planet because the musicians listen to each other. I don't see this so intensely in any of the big orchestras. Nor the joy that the Berliners have while playing and afterwards. It all comes across as highly concentrated, as it seems that all the sideshows can take a back seat to the music. And I have never been disappointed with Petrenko anyway. He penetrates music with all his senses and clear analysis. His Elektra recently was of remarkable clarity, and at the same time he drove the orchestra to an ecstasy in the last five minutes that I have never heard in this work - not even from Welser-Möst and Solti.
It's my first time actually looking at Petrenko conduct, and I don't yet understand how he makes music sound like magic, but I really like his absolute pianissimo to crescendo on the penultimate bar, matching it with the intensity of his expression.
M.E. brauchst du einfach die russische Seele für dieses Stück, deshalb gefiel es mir unter Gergiev und Petrenko bisher am besten. Immer wieder ergreifend! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I do agree, he’s one of the best french horn player. I had from a friend a video of the latest concert of BSO last year in Rome and he was sublime. If you like french horn, please have a look at Guglielmo Pellarin, principal and solo horn of Accademia Santa Cecilia in Rome. You might be surprised!
@@claudiabazzani6106 I will look that up. We are blessed with outstanding horn players at this time. Sarah Willis is amazing low horn in the BP and Elspeth Dutch in the Birmingham SO is sublime.
Fantastic performance! Let me just ask, can you imagine Petrenko at the thrilling climax with a mask on? I know there are rules in different locations, but please, take a cue from Berlin! There are orchestras where the conductor and the strings are wearing masks. Of course, the wind players do not. Unless you can prove that the trombones or the clarinets are getting sick while the violas or cellists remain well, everyone take off the masks!
Nice to see Clara Andrade de la Calle sitting in as your guest principal flute. She's always fantastic!
Is she the flutist that plays in Frankfurt Radio Symphony ?
@@gonthelittlefox She is indeed. Their You Tube channel also has some wonderful concerts.
As well as Jürgen Ellensohn.

He is amazing. I was in the concert myself in Berlin and it was even better live than in this very good video recording.

If this 3 mins doesn't make you absolutely love classical music...... OMG 😱 tears of joy 😥
I struggle to decide which to listen to when I need an adrenaline, fix this or The Great Gate Of Kiev.
Absolutely wonderful. Kirill Petrenko is so dynamic. What a superb orchestra.
Stravinsky and Petrenko-almost enuff to have me believing in a divine creator‼️👍💥

No other composer set the music world on it’s ear quite like Igor. Solid & earnest.
I liked conductor Kirill Petrenko . He was very good .. Bravo Maestro !

Great and poweful energy petrenko

Go Stefan Dohr. Chillingly atmospheric horn playing.
I have heard and played this piece many times but I think that Stefan’s solo was the tenderest and most precious rendition I have heard. Bravo!

Who is the timpanist? I do not recognise him.He is very good!
The timpanist is Peter Fleckenstein (he was a member of the Karajan Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker from 2016 to 2018).
👍✌
Are those the three tenors standing up in back?
Some jokes just go down the tubes.
New flute soloist?
Quite rushed compared to Gergiev's, but still brilliant
The Gergiev Firebird ending on RUclips is really a classic!
Leave the timpanist alone

Is this music written by mahler?
No, by Stravinskij
