This is one of the most incredible endings in all the symphonic repertoire.
the roof was creaking that night. Was present as witness!
@@chrisczajasager you're a very lucky man
@@ethan7112 indeed, any playing Scriabine's music for almost 70 years! Great other concert memories: S.Richter's
performance of the 7th Sonata in 1961 , Carnegie Hall, VHorowitz playing the 9th in 19655 and a bit later the 10th Sonata.
The most, period.
Indeed
This is my favorite video on You Tube ..such a pure-hearted artist
I'm so glad he was picked over conductors like Thielemann. The Berlin Phil has very much become the "modern" orchestra and I know this man will continue to push this amazing orchestra in the right direction.
Fernando Herrera I don't know Petrenko at all, but I have heard enough of Thielemann to know he is nothing special...and I think I am being kind in that assessment.
Fernando Herrera Not quite true he was picked over Thielemann.
+ArtShouldBeBeautiful He was picked over every other option. Point is, the type of conductor they went with is substantially different than the type that Thielemann is.
Fernando Herrera Yes and no, that's not exactly how it happened at all from what i understand.
ArtShouldBeBeautiful well either way I am very happy with their choice. There are many dull and uninspiring conductors they could have gone with. Thankfully they didn't.
The composer could never imagine that in this present time, people would appreciate this masterpiece so much!!! Scriabin is a master composer indeed! Ahead of his time, where genius usually are!!!!
The silence at 1:35 made my spine tingle. (Also that woman expecting an earth shattering fortissimo to follow must have been pleasantly surprised..)
Collins Saunders I can’t see her.
I can't see her, either...? 🤔
shes above the conductors left hand
I think she was covering her ears for the applause, she thought the piece was over.
Wow, the way the entire orchestra immediately goes from FF to nothing at 1:34 is something else. Not only does every musician have to stop playing, but they have to dampen their instruments (if possible) to stop the reverberation that causes the sound. Amazing musicianship.
yossarianswingman No one clapped either, which is a surprise.
Going from that ff or p or whatever quiet dynamic it was would have been impressive had it not been for the lengthy fermata.
@@AlexEwan1 If there was no pause, there wouldn't be a significant or jarring silence, which is the whole point of going from ff to nothing. Imagine if the orchestra simply "got over" the silence 2 seconds after it had occurred.
The dynamic possibilities of the BerlPhil are one of the things that make them what they are. Sadly there is always some compression on recordings etc., because the actual dynamic range would not be feasible at home. Their piano ist astounding. Their forte earth shattering. If the music allows it, they beat you up - and throw you into emptiness a moment later. Let Milo organize some tickets and come to the Philharmonie some day!
@@GreggOld it‘s Berlin!
Petrenko is actually not only conducting the orchestra but also the audience. Since orchestra musicians always say that - in happy moments - they become part of this huge collective wave, Petrenko might be seen as a modern high priest who accumulates, shapes and directs the energies neccessary to achieve this state of collective dissolution - where everything becomes one.
silly
Petrenko can win over the masses completely unpretentiously, because he does not inspire through lazy magic, but through a shared understanding and desire to experience the most beautiful thing there is - music. He is curious and excited about what he does. And it shows.
@@chrisczajasager If you´d attended Tchaikovksy 6 conducted by him, you would understand. Sometimes, as you may know, there is applause after the 3rd movement of the Pathetique - and some conductors like it, some don´t. Petronko doesn´t - and he made that with his gesture very clear. Everyone in the audience got it, no one applauded. And this was important, clapping would have destroyed the moment, the silence between the movements was part of the interpretation (Petrenko seems very aware of that, e.g. Beethoven 7 after the 1st movement).
If a conductor does not "conduct the audience" it can destroy very intense moments, but you will only experience this in the concert hall. Take the end of some symphonies, like Bruckner 9, Mahler 2 oder Schosta 4 - these seconds between the end of the music and the beginning of the applause can be very, very intensese. And the conductor can keep these moments if he wants to and the audience gets it. Thielemann, Brahms Requiem... nearly one minute silence after the last note. And that silence was part of the performance. Thielemann made it clear with his posture. It would have destroyed the moment if the audience did not get that or respected it. There are a lot of things more going on than what one can hear in the concert hall, for me at last and the people who have an understanding for these moments.
It seems that every time I hear the music I’m discovering something new. What a masterpiece!
Orgasmic. Attending a concert you usually see the conductor only from behind. How nice to watch him from a different angle. Imagine standing there yourself, in the centre of the room, surrounded by this exceptional band, with this sound being produced by them, like storm waves rolling over you from all sides, breaking at the walls and flowing back, inundating you. Smashing you down and lifting you up, a little barge with broken rudder. Still, you steer it precisely. I doubt that it should be possible to approach bliss much closer. Who would not be moved to tears! I commend Petrenko on showing his feelings. There is nothing to contemn here.
Scriabine's c o m p o s i t i o n evoking those emotions you described in the players and listeners
most important : to listen, not to look..........................
@@chrisczajasager these are three completely different dimensions of performance perception: audio, video, live performance. And there is an abyss between all three. What is permissible in one spoils others.
My God... no words to describe this!
EXTASE, nu???
Orgasm.
Sublime work and incredible conducting. Two geniuses meeting across the century for everyone's rapture !
M!
the way he manages the last crescendo of the last chord is so incredible...
Fantastic! The old school of conductors combined! What a paradise! Congratulations, Kirill Petrenko!
Just astonishing. This conductor is incredible.
If you listen to this free Starring, bright future comes to mind with the Berlin Philharmonic.
!
Emotion ! I heard this amazing piece last March in the same hall, with the Berlin Radio Symphony (Janowski), and it was just as phenomenal. The best acoustics in the world !
Eric BUTRUILLE Yeah, nothing particularly special with Petrenko, i agree
+ArtShouldBeBeautiful You are absolutely right, Petrenko is just phenomenal, I agree with you
+ArtShouldBeBeautiful This is not exactly what I said. I thought Janowski was phenomenal, but Petrenko at least as phenomenal. And I've heard other conductors in this piece who were FAR less convincing ! (EP Salonen, recently...).
finally, it's the MUSIC !!!!!
I think this man is a perfect replacement for Sir Simon Rattle. Certainly 'feels' the music in his expression and the orchestra will follow him very well.
The final peroration is thrillingly intoxicating. Perfection as usual from the Berliners.
Wonderful performance, wonderful conductor...for me Petrenko the best...
L'espressività di Petrenko sul Palco...
È qualcosa che ...è insito e Va oltre...
La Musica 💪🎶😊
I was in Munich last summer, to hear and see him conducting Wagner's Ring. It was grandioso, but also tender and full of nuances. I am amazed by his work. He and Esa-Pekka Salonen are my favorite living conductors.
Herzlichen Glückwunsch Kirill Petrenko!
Perhaps the best performance on this of all that I have heard. Bravo to the orchestra and Kirill Petrenko!
Congratulations! Don't forget your roots and your great history.
The strings made it glorius
diane flock I really like this nice Jewish boy being the conductor of the Berlin Phil. The finest orchestra in the world. He reminds me of Dudamel. I hope that he lets his hair grow. He has wild curls just like Dudamel.
Tahuan Tinsuyo To compare him to Dudamel is like comparing the hope diamond to cubic zerconia.
Tahuan Tinsuyo To compare Petrenko to Dudamel is an insult to Petrenko (imho) it is like equating the hope diamond to cubic zirconia, Petrenko is authentic, Dudamel is a spectacle.
martha jane So much racism and hatred. So sad. How many Confederate flags do you own?
AMAZING! True Scriabin for once... Thank you.
The most cohesive rendition of this piece's ending I've heard. Truly superb. I do believe it's a mix of rehearsals and live however... Empty seats vs. full house... Even so... It's perfect.
I love him. His expression of final crescendo is perfectly great
Crescendo at the finale...!
fulfilled .Scriabine's indication in the score.....
Only way to achieve ecstasy.
The most fantastic ending!!! Brilliant!
When a conductor becomes the music. Watching this is a challenge for the heart 🙂
Shocker -- conductor appointed on his merits as a conductor! Film at Eleven... lol. Looks and sounds to me like this band is in very good hands, i.e. an intelligent musician who is very much about serving music and having the musicians communicate the music to the audience.
Absolutely earth shattering!!
Scriabine's wish especially in Promethee...
Der "Paganini" oder "Liszt" unter den Dirigenten ... Glückwunsch, Berliner Philharmoniker, daß Ihr den jetzt als Dirigenten habt 😎 😍
Certainly, it was a wonderful decision of the Big Orquestra; Welcome Kirill Petrenko in Berlin 2018 and we'll see/hear you next June again!
I learned about this piece when this video came out and I have yet to listen to a piece with an ending as satisfying as this one.
volume works in the 21st century
@@chrisczajasager Get a fucking life.
Meilleure version de cette finale depuis E. Svetlanov (début des années 1990) ... chapeau bas !
So this was the piece that was supposed to be played before the very end of the world if the Mayas were right in their calculations… wow. Which better composer to herald such frightening and deeply solemn moment than Scriabin? If someday we happen to know somehow the date of our collective fate, please, schedule a concert with his Mysterium. How suitable it would be!
Just, the best Orchestra!
What a piece of art!!! Superb work and conducting!
Phenomenal!
Beeindruckend zu sehen wie Herr Petrenko dirigiert.
Amazing Kirill Petrenko!!!
Wie das Orchester gegen Ende ausquetscht wie eine Zitrone! Fantastisch !
Stunning. Humbling. Pure joy.
Love him! So humble, so visceral. Hope this turns out to be a great match.
Gp Cao I don't see anything humble at all. Lots of showmanship.
SeanPi314 Devout? Do you mean he is a religious jew? Sorry, i don't know anything about that, but i don't see how that makes him fit to lead a symphony orchestra.
Ebbs and flows of exquisite beauty ascending to the Sublime. It must be released on disc.
I like to think that this is what it sounds like when you pass through the golden gates of heaven
Bienvenido a la Berliner, Kirill. ¡¡¡Suerte!!!
mozart2306Y... ¡¡¡Vaya final!!!
So much passion, so intense...
Great.... Simply GREAT!!! You can feel the energy of the conductor/the orchestra!
paramount....the music
Супер. Браво
1:38 who in the world would cover the ears to ear the most effective stop in music?
It was mega loud before. I can understand that
Anticipated the opposite maybe
Класс! Исполнение просто великолепное
This is the best thing I have heard him do. This and the very moving Tod und Verklaerung. The rest, frankly, doesn't live up to the hype, yet.
the entire concert had very interesting repertoire and wonderful performances by a l l ....!!
how did the roof of the concert hall ever manage to stay in place ?
Thats the question
Dear lord. The man is a legend for 21st century classical music.
Scriabine of course paramount: influenced Carter, Varese, Wolpe to w a n t to brecome composers!!
Petrenko is Music with a human body, the best director I saw in my life
No se puede dirigir mejor esta pieza. Sublime Petrenko!
Svetlanov lo hace mejor.

This is truly remarkable..
wir sind gespannt. herzlichen glückwünsch kirill petrenko !
I love his facial expressions...shows that he really feels the music! :)
Strong and amazing! Such a masterpiece! Really like to hear more about Scriabin. Too bad he died quite early.
here in Berlin, shame,: a Scriabine Piano series series in 2015 where not all of the 10 sonatas were played. And also in that year all of the symphonies should have been performed,too..
Magnificas disonancias...extasis!!!!
ray of hope, I hope Berliner Philharmonic finds his way to greatness and back to its tradition again, with retrospective to Great Karajan And ofcourse Great Claudio Abbado and step into present and new era maybe..
Fascinante, maravillosa interpretación
one word to describe: "wow"
first time i heard of him but he must be a really great conductor to be chosen as director of the philharmonic once sir simon rattle leaves.
Fantastique ♥️♥️♥️
Kirills new conductor of Berliner Philharmoniker!!! Bravo!
wait and see?
The energic of this conductor is just amazing! My dream is to play in this orchestra
INCREDIBLE
Scriabin Musical Shaman.
Look at that last cresendo,wow.
Just at the moment you think that he is about to stop the orchestra, he continues hahahaha. Brilliant.
Scriabine responsible..... so many comments from a new generation where music is some visual distraction...
Die Berliner. Petrenko. Superlativ.
he is amazing!!
1:33 has to be one of the most chilling moments in all of classical music
one of the most ecstatic moments
De toute beauté
1:37 the woman is covering her ears...This could have been a captivating and really loud performance...
