Vintage 1966 Silk Magnolia Beaded Gown Part 4 Finale : This project is still one of my favorites to look back on. Not just because of the gown and it's sorry, but because of all of the things I learned during this restoration that I still use today. This gown was snatched up right away by an amazingly dedicated follower who took part in every live stream, watched every video and motivated me with her excitement to see it completed. I'm so happy it found its second chance right away. I'm excited to show you the full process now that so many of you have joined my page 🥰
To answer some of your questions from during this restoration:
Q. Why didn't you put it in the sun?
A. This video was made last year, at the time the weather was spotty so I didn't want to risk it. I also live in Washington so it's not always available. When it is though I definitely use it!
Q. Why did you use bleach??
A. Normally I wouldn't and these days I've learned much safer practices. I was feeling desperate and it was a last ditch attempt, until I found that stain stick.
Q. Why didn't you take it to the dry cleaners?
A. Dry cleaners hardly accept vintage wedding dresses in great condition due to the liability, they wouldn't have ever touched this.

It’s refreshing to see actual wedding dresses from years past. Times and styles change so much it was wonderful to see this dress from the 60’s. So glad someone wanted to wear it and that the family had it restored. You did a beautiful job on a difficult dress, just a lovely look into someone’s past. Thanks for sharing.
In South America we would wet the fabric, then rub white soap all around(like coconut washing soap or a white hand soak) and put in the Sun. You can put inside a transparent bag or directly on the Sun and throw more water as it dries. It will remove ANY stain. It’s magical. That’s what old school would do in the rivers to get white linen clothing without rubbing.
Does it work on the old stains?
@@tobelight6729sounds like it. Baking soda in a paste with lemon juice
This is what I've done since in Cuba, it works like a charm 🤌🏻
What's coconut washing soap? Do you mean like bath soap that you would take a bath with? Give me a brand name for an example.
Please 😊
That is such a beautiful gown! It looks like Audrey Hepburn could have worn it! Just beautiful and unique.
I can picture Jacqueline Kennedy wearing this beautiful gown!
I did restoration like this in the early 1980s for years using the same methods you used. There were only two of us in all of Western MA who did that kind of work, so suffice to say, I was always booked well up to two years. My oldest gown was circa 1817 and it had been used by the bride and her sisters to play dress-up, so it was not in great shape, and stained also. I had to learn an intricate crochet technique to repair the torn ones using old thread from antique fairs. The dress and the bride was absolutely beautiful. At the wedding reception, I saw two ladies supporting an old trembling with age, man and coming towards me. He looked at me with tears in his eyes. He gave me a heartfelt thank-you for restoring his grandmother’s dress. I will never forget that.
My God I wish you were in San Francisco lol
I will be getting married in my grandmothers dress and I want to revamp it but I can’t find any good tailors
they used to make things so much better. it's gorgeous
What a fantastic job you did. It looks like new. I'm sure the family will be able to pass it down to another generation, thanks to your efforts.
This is one of the most beautiful gowns I've ever seen!!! I would have loved to have worn one like this, so regal!! I'm shocked that no one in the family wanted it to wear for their own wedding and just hire you to restore it. Just stunningly beautiful!!
Wow great job. Such a beauty gown so much more beautiful than the strapless unimaginative gowns that are so overpriced today.
You have more patience than I do & I am glad you do.
What a gorgeous dress! So stylish. You did a phenomenal job restoring it.❤
Thank you so much!🥰🥰
Wow! That is impressive! I have been using Nellies Laundry soda for a few years now, and it never disappoints. Only has four ingredients. Certainly a product line that could very useful for what you do. That dress just looks amazing!
That was amazing. That is a beautiful dress! Timeless beauty, not dated. You could wear that today.
I think so too!
My eyes popped out of my head when I saw the end result. Looks like a brand new dress. Amazing.
That is a gorgeous dress, and you did an awesome job restoring it. I hope someone wears it again!
What a beautiful gown! You did a wonderful job restoring it.

All I can say is Wow! Design of the dress is beautiful
That is an absolutely beautiful dress. Im going to buy that stick for my laundry issues. Thank you for the video 😊
This is a beautiful dress.
It really is!
So satisfying to see the results of your labour, right? Maybe you could show us a picture of the dress on whoever bought it? It’s really beautiful!!
The family needs to do us a favor! and let people rent such a beautiful wedding dress 🤩
Wow! All of your research and hard work produced an amazing result. It looks beautiful.
Absolutely fabulous.I had no faith that you would get those things out.But I Am ordering one of those sticks on Amazon. That's for sure.❤🎉 Absolutely fabulous job
Vintage gowns like this one are the most beautiful and you did an amazing job restoring it. I use vinegar a lot in my laundry activities, but must caution everyone against using it on silk, as it 'denatures' (i.e. burns, cooks) silk.
It is absolutely gorgeous! You did a fantastic job. A lot of love went into that restoration!
Miracle worker!
The beautiful fabric looked like it was intact.
We have an heirloom christening gown that was recently just used for photos. It is fragile. By fragile I mean yellowed, stained and disintegrating. I think it’s too far gone to be dipped in anything wet.
What you did to rescue the wedding gown is awesome.
Denture cleaning tabs, my Mom use to soak old dresses in them over night. Worked wonders!
What a beautiful wedding dress !
What a stunning gown! Congrats on bringing it back to life!
Thank you! 😊
Oh my gosh, you gave this dress its life back.
When she said " when it let go of all the stuff it was holding onto " wow!🙏❤
Absolutely beautiful work. Commendable persistence. Well done.
Thank you very much!
Perfect! Well Done! Beautiful Dress 🤩🥰
Love watching you weave your magic
I'm happy to have you ♥️
What a beautifull dress welldone for saving it
Stunning dress. Similar to my mums dress, she married in 1965.
You are so good at this! I love the restored dress!!😊
This dress is giving me Grace Kelly vibes ❤️😍 you are a master with these restorations.
That brand of cleaning products, for that stain stick, is from France. I live here now and have for the last 8 years. I love that brand though they have good stuff. I buy it at Castrorama or Carrefour.
But I'm originally a fellow Washingtonian myself 😊 hailing from Seattle. But before I met my husband and moved to France we had considered living in Olympia. However we soon realized after comparing things that France overall is cheaper.
Fels naptha is incredible at taking out stains and is even less expensive.
You have done a wonderful job on the beautiful gown!! ❤
Thank you! 😊

such a beautiful labor of love.
Wow, what an amazing job you done on this stunner, absolutely gorgeous and timeless.❤
When moving home 3yrs ago i found my wedding dress from only 25years ago (divorced), so no real love for it. I opened it and remembered the red wine stain right down the front along with the black hem and just general 25 years of grime. I though 'fook it' sprayed ace bleach on the stains and stuck it in the washing machine on a wool wash with vinegar and detergent. Was looking forward to seeing the state of it. I was amazed that every stain had come out 😱. Lost a few beads/crystals but easily replaced them. Once dry it was like new. Now i love it, my mum bought me it and since passed away and now it has some meaning. 😂❤
That was a remarkable restoration! Congratulations! Thanks for posting!
Thank you very much for watching!
Great job ! Here in Australia, I use Sard laundry soap. Same process, but amazing results ❤
That is magnificent!!

You are a miracle worker
Gorgeous dress. I’m amazed that you got the stains all out. I will be on the lookout for Nelly’s wow stick too.
I purchased a 1998 vintage dress that had been stored away since then and it does have some heavy stains on the front just from aging inside of a box but after watching your videos, I feel like I may be able to attempt to restore it to its original state by using some of these techniques, and I definitely want to purchase that stain stick that you showed us! I am so excited to try this out. Thank you so much for your knowledge.
Awesome work-good job!🙋🏾
Love, love this!💜
I’m impressed with Nellie’s Wow Stick.

Your sticking to it really won the battle against those stains. Wonderful job.
It definitely took everything I had and more to accomplish it, but I'm glad it was worth it in the end!

New subscriber…….I’m speechless, that dress is GORGEOUS!! You did an amazing job!!!!
That is the most beautiful dress!! Well done on the restoration - looks wonderful. Lots of work and elbow grease went into it and you can be unashamedly proud of the result. ❤
Thank you so much!
Ma'am thank you for this video
Most welcome 😊
This is fascinating. My gown from 55 years ago had turned a brownish color all over. It was organza and Alencon lace. When a well recommended restorer said there was nothing he could do, I decided to take a chance and put it in the bathtub with Oxyclean. The brown was immediately lifted. An expert told me later it was probably the starch on the organza. The material is softer now so that makes sense.
I'm so sorry I didn't find you sooner!! I tossed my stained wedding dress as I felt it was beyond repair and now my regret knows no limits!!
We were told when I stored my 1st wedding dress to wrap it in a white sheet & if we could get the silica packets to add them in as well. Of course, mine is only from 1998 when I was only 18yrs old & being forced to marry my soon-to-be son's father (never raise your children that way please). Once we wrapped it & added a few silica packets we put it in a XL Space Saver bag. I have taken it out once to show my daughter who has the same father, in case once she is ready to get married she may want to use it or even have it altered for a different design, yet using the same dress giving it new hope. My son was already promised my engagement & wedding band set since his long-time gf & I wear the same size ring (5). I told him if he wanted to keep the diamonds, melt the gold for something else & change the setting that was fine became it too would give it new hope. When I took the dress out 15-20yrs later, it still looked brand new. All it would've need was a bit of steaming but still beautiful.
You did an amazing job on this restoration! I'm sure my storeage method isn't for everyone, especially the Space Saver bag, lol, but it's airtight & keeps it well preserved. It was actually a dry cleaner that told us about the white sheet & silica packets. I was going to sell mine, as my 1st marriage harbored a great deal of bad memories, but it held the 2 best things to ever happen in my life, as well, my children. Although, we all know I didn't need a piece of paper for those angels. But again, it was how I was raised. Needless to say I finally gained the strength & courage to leave before my daughter was a year old & refused to raise them the same way. Of course, my parents are a great deal older & that's what was always expected of their generations. I guess they did what they thought was right & proper. All it did was force me to marry a controlling, abusive older man.
Wow! You did such a fantastic job with this restoration. This gown is absolutely gorgeous! 👏❤️
Thank you! 😊
What an exquisite gown and beautiful restoration!
Awesome job, I’ll definitely be adding Nellie’s soap to my inventory.
That's an amazingly beautiful dress. I'm so happy it turned out as well as it did...nice and crisp looking. Like it's new!

Having been born in 1966 this restoration really appealed to me. You did a fantastic job. My wedding gown is in my attic along with my 3 daughters christening dresses. At some point I’d like to freshen them up. 😊
Beautiful ❤
This was amazing! It almost looked like my cousins dress that she wanted me to wear. She passed before I got married.

My favorite spot remover is Grandma's Secret Spot Remover Laundry Spray - Chlorine, Bleach and Toxin-Free Fabric Stain Remover for Clothes - Removes Oil, Paint, Blood and Pet Stains, rust etc. I use it for every spot. Many years ago I could only find it in tiny bottles at Michael’s. The company has since expanded it to larger spray bottles which is available on Amazon. Whenever I travel, I take the small bottle with me and this is made in the USA.
