    Great video. I love the vocal chain. Great idea to use multiple levels of EQ and Comp. You really weren't scared to squash that vocal. But the end result didnt sound squashed at all. I definitely learned something. Thanks!!

    You are cooking with gas at a young age! Love how accurately you identify what is going to work in the mix. Awesome content! Just a personal taste here... The piano seems to compete with the same frequencies of the vocals to my "old" ears. Just wondering what would have been different with some EQ considerations or pitch accommodations for the piano... I know, I am old school.. but with a beautiful vocalist you almost only need a bass, if you know what I mean. Keep up the outstanding work, and great videos! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

      Hey Thanks for the love Ty Curtis!
      You're Definitely right about the piano! It was just a simple recording to accommodate the vocal as this was specifically for this video. Not really a full mixing video more rather just a vocal chain guide! Thanks for the attention to detail there's not many people who focus on the finer things and comment!

    You may not be aware of the Flex Pitch but it is another great tool (little more tedious) to correct imperfections. It’s right next to your automation tool up top there. Looks like a purple X when you hover over it. Great tutorial by the way. You very learned in your EQ understanding. Keep learning! Enjoy!

    • @JoelBeatss
      @JoelBeatss  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks man. Yeah I used to use Flex Pitch when it came out, leaves way too many little artifacts and tonal shifts that I don't really like. Typically I use Autotune and its grid mode for more tedious things. Of course I was just mixing with the stock plugs for this Vid. Cheers!

    you’re probably not gonna reply but i’ll take my chances. what microphone did you use for this? i use a SM7B and i want like a pop radio friendly vocals type of quality but i have no knowledge mixing vocals and without processing, it sounds very podcast-y. also my voice is basically shawn mendes tone and range wise.
    the quality i want is khalid - better. btw i use a dbx 286s preamp and idk if it’s about the settings (which idk what the knobs are for)

    lol i always come back to this video! I had the nectar 3 for a while but honestly I believe this only works if you have high end gear in the studio. the vocal chain always brought out weird frequencies that weren't there in the first place. I stick with the logic plug ins until I level up with better gear. Thanks for the video

    Could you do a tutorial to best understand “buss” and “sends”

    • @johnelkins2484
      @johnelkins2484 4 года назад +8

      The really basic explanation that I have come up with is that the bus and sends are an option if you want to use the same versions of certain effects on multiple tracks. So let's assume you create Bus 12 (just an example) and you add a flanger effect to it with a rate of 2.66hz (again, just an example) - you can then access this flanger with this same setting on multiple tracks by accessing this bus. It saves processing power on your computer because you are sending multiple tracks to the same effect rather than creating the same effect multiple times for each channel. Plus you can can control the level of the effect on each track from the bus on each track - you just drag up and down on the fader for the bus in question. Hope this helps!
