The PS4 version of BO6 is significantly better than the PS3 version of BO3. Both were released way after their consoles were released, with bo3 releasing 9 years after the ps3 and bo6 releasing 11 years after the ps4, yet bo6 on the ps4 runs at 720p with a target of 60, and bo3 ran at sub 720p with a target of 30fps.
That’s what people conveniently forget with last generation hardware. The PS4 and Xbox One line of consoles are basically modern PCs and the cuts to get newer games running on them are not as dramatic as years past on much older hardware (especially compared to the Switch which has sold the best and has received many ports deemed “impossible.”) Also, a lot of people aren’t sensitive to unstable frame rates and above 30 FPS gameplay with variation is perfectly playable. Not to mention, there are many players on both consoles that would love to play as many new games as possible - CoD especially.

Newer hardware ages better than like the PS1 and Nintendo 64 that already felt ‘outdated’ when the Sega Dreamcast came out in 1998. Before the current gen consoles came out in 2020, I KNEW that the PS4 and Xbox one would age well in hardware. Same thing with Nvidia GPU’s from the Maxwell architecture that are now a decade old and the GTX 900 series are still getting driver support.

I wish you'd test the multiplayer. It definitely uses much lower settings, and it's where 99% of people who bought it will be spending all of their time.
I hope they do. I played through the campaign on all settings maxed out on pc with DLSS on quality. Didn’t really mind having frame rates drop to 70s in the campaign but now that I’m playing multiplayer, I want the frame rate as high as I can get it without having to look at ultra low res textures or having to turn DLSS to performance or ultra performance since I’m on a 3440*1440 monitor. I have a 3090 and with DLSS on quality I’m barely hitting 100fps even with some shadows and lighting settings turned down to medium or even low. I bought the 3090 used about 2 years ago and I’m struggling to get modern games to run above 100fps with DLSS at quality these days even if it’s not a super graphically intense game and I’m starting to get disappointed. I was thinking it might be the GPU performance is starting to degrade a bit with all the wear and tear but I doubt it. I just think games are just not optimized on pc anymore. But anyway, I’d like to see what the ps5 equivalent of the multiplayer settings on pc so I can try that or an optimized settings list. Hope DF puts out a multiplayer and a pc video too. Lol.
Benchmarking that would be much more difficult as there are so many unpredictable components, unlike campaign where there are fixed set pieces, scripted events, enemies appearing in the same places every time etc. It would be a lot harder to make a fair comparison.
The IW8 (that formed the basis of IW9) engine was built with the PS4 Pro in mind. It makes use of features that didn't get added to the One X for things like software VRS.
@@bsd107Playstation consoles are not using DirectX. It is not a power issues but API and SDKs. In other words, games just run better due to the tools used to compile on PS platforms. The GPU is a bit slower but it has less cores and they work fast, less redundancies
Wait, you're telling me the campaign isn't garbage? Sign me the fuck up. I'm one of those rare weirdos who has always preferred playing the campaign vs multiplayer. (Yes, I am trash online.)
MW 2019 and Cold war had good campaigns, and mw2, while it had awful multiplayer wasn't a bad campaign. Vanguard and MW3 were utter trash though. Apart from BO3 (and obviously BO4) all the black ops games had decent campaigns.
Just a conspiracy theory, but its possible that since iw9 was created during the playstation exclusivity era, it was intentionally made to run better on ps4. This isnt really noticable on curdent gen, but definatly is on last gen.
One thing I wish was mentioned in these comparisons is the difference of HDR performance. I completed the campaign on PS5 (LG CX OLED) and found myself constantly in the system menu, adjusting HDR because of how ridiculously dark some scenes are. I played about 4 missions on Series X to compare and found the Dolby Vision output to be far superior in overall visibility and look. Playing both in 120hz mode, I still preferred overall performance on PS5 (including multiplayer).
I'm surprised to see that the PlayStation versions of the game still outperform the Xbox counterparts. I could understand the PS5 outperforming the XSX, it's happened in quite a few titles, but the PS4 pro should not be outperforming the Xbox One X. Originally i thought it was pro-playstation bias from Activision, but that shouldn't be happening anymore considering they're owned by Microsoft now.
It's likely that the PS4/5 were still the primary development platforms for this game. The game has been in development for 4 years, and Microspft have only owned ABK for 1 year. It'll be 2-3 years before we really see how much effect that has.
AAA devs prioritize Playstation, because that platform has the most players. It's how always was and will be. Especially when we talk about COD. It was always a Playstation prio game.
I think this could partially be due to this game being developed during both periods of having a deal with Sony, then being owned by MC. When it came to the optimisation, could have been an accident as they just ended up having more experience with optimising PS more
@@tranquility6789 it’s because of the dynamic res, Tom doesn’t mention the ps versions going lower than the Xbox. When you have them side by side you see it clear as day.

One thing these analyses need is to be able to more directly cross reference frame rate with graphical resolution. It's one thing to say that one console has a higher or lower frame rate in certain situations, but what is the technical story behind that? It would be informative to be able to cross reference the average frame rate for each platform (during the test) as well as the average resolution. It would allow for a more informed understanding of the performance vs fidelity. For example, if one console had a higher average frame rate during the test but a lower average resolution, it is more informative of what actually might be going on. And it'd be even more informative if in those moments where one console performed higher or lower in frame rate to explicitly remark on the resolutions (or graphical settings if applicable) achieved during those moments. Overall, being able to cross reference this kind of information allows viewers to make more informed decisions.
For anyone still using last gent (PS4 and/or XBone) you should be using an SSD and not a spinning drive. It should fix any data streaming, animation hiccups, most texture popping issues for the most part.
@@mitsuhh Doesnt matter, you go from about 100mb/s on the stock drive to about 300mb/s on an ssd. This seems to be enough to minimize most texture popping etc. Sure its not perfect, but it makes games like Battlefield 2042 playable.
When I first saw this I knew that Xbox about to lay off half of Activision and the other studios that produced this 😂 We are yet to see if this is true.
@@DinoGuy1969 Only on the One X. There's no reason for it to be performing that badly against the PS4 Pro, so perhaps they didn't have time to optimise it properly. It is 7 consoles they're doing after all, 8 if you include PS5 Pro.
Remember many long years ago when Don Mattrick came on stage and launched that: "tv..TV...tv..TV.." device? Well, THAT thing runs Black Ops 6. Crazy thought for some reason.
@@mikael4126 I am not sure about that. Consoles often scale on the horizontal to half resolution when running dynamic resolutions which would be 1920x2160 on a 4k display. It gives a less noticeable degradation to quality than scaling on both axis.
@@mikael4126 Just checked the Eurogamer site, the graphic is incorrect, as I suspected. From the site... "Both PS5 and Series X operate at a 3840x2160 resolution target that dynamically adjusts down to 1920x2160 - in effect, adjusting on the horizontal axis gives both PS5 and Series X enough GPU headroom to tackle Black Ops 6's most explosive missions at 60 frames per second or close to it." Not only that, but they do say it in the actual video almost verbatim.
An article posted by Eurogamer that is the exactly same of this DF video words also wrote that PS5/XSX render 1920X2160 to 3840X2160 only horizontal axis dynamic resolution.
Why didn't they limit the maximum resolution to 2560 x 1440p on PS4pro and XboxOneX, that would probably give better overall performance. Why did they choose such a strange resolution of 1512p?
Would not be surprised, if they wanted to avoid a CPU limit. Last gen consoles' GPUs are nowhere near as limiting today as the below smartphone level CPU 😅
@@xtr.7662 Yeah, they likely just run the dynamic res as high as the GPU can handle because the old jaguar CPU cores even back in 2013 were showing their age, while the GPU's were actually relatively decent for the time.
They absolutely need a downloadable content for Black Ops 6 that enables the game to be played offline. The campaign and zombies mode deserves to be preserved for being among the best in the series.
The campaign will look absolutely terrible if only played offline as the texture streaming they use from the Internet covers all of the surfaces, weapons, vehicles main characters and props, I play the campaign and I'm literally downloading gigabytes and gigabytes of textures all of the time as they have a self-overwriting cache, I wish they would release the textures instead of downloading as I'm playing campaign or multiplayer it's dumb, because at that point it overwrites and you are downloading more gigabytes of textures than if you just downloaded the whole pack once.
@@Igolorbr They are really awful, the textures never download right away, it takes a while so you do get a brief view of the standard built in textures, I noticed it on vehicles and helicopters in the campaign, its really really bad for close ups in cutscenes of main characters and stuff, especially in Modern Warfare 3 from 2023.
@@seth4321 Yeah, I played the first few minutes of MW3 campaign a while ago and the first gulag mission took like 5 GB, because of the geometry and vehicles like the helicopter, I'm well into 64 gigabytes of the texture cache which is the maximum self overwriting cache size you can set, 64 GB isn't big enough to store all the textures so it will still continue to download and overwrite itself, so you end up eventually using more data than you would use if you just had them as like a pack or built in.
Ehhh, it's similar to Modern Warfare 2019, but animations lack the weight and power that they seemed to have in that game. MW2019 is the best Call of Duty from a technical standpoint.

Regarding PS4 Pro, using an SSD solves most of the problems mentioned in the video, my console has a 1TB standard SATA 3 SSD, and framerates appear to flow much better without the hitching and stuttering during saving; Just like with an old PC, if you happen to have an SSD lying about, installing it in any PS4 console can make it run so much better!

You can tell hardware has really slowed down in the past decade when you can buy a One S for $50 and play the latest game with the graphics looking similar to a $3000 pc
I'd argue less slowed down and more just less significant leaps. We hit a peak last gen and it's been diminishing returns since. It's a big reason why hardware is down across the board despite more active users and software sales than ever. At this point the latest hardware is just for enthusiasts. It's not the worst thing ever and makes gaming more accessible, but it's something to address for hardware manufacturers. It's a big reason why Sony has raised prices on consoles (or held for an unprecedented amount of time) and Xbox has expanded beyond just the console. It's also why we're seeing hardware that compromises on power for more use cases like Handhelds. The question is how do hardware manufacturers expand when people don't really need or in a lot of cases even want new more powerful hardware.
This game is a bad representation since it's essentially made for the one s and ps4 and then just scaled up a little for the newer platforms. Look at the difference between cyberpunk on a One S and a 3000 dollar pc maxed out with path tracing at 4 times the resolution and 4 times the framerate.
‘There’s an almost morbid curiosity to seeing how XBox One fares now’. Yep. The Series S is increasingly taking this spot as well and will continue to provide probably the most interesting console for analysis as games get more demanding. Just to see what happens on it. Lol.

The one thing, the most important thing Call of Duty developers have done this year, is make Black Ops 6 fun. Infinity Ward over the past few years has tried to take themselves too seriously. CoD isn't supposed to be serious, especially multiplayer. Because of their recent approaches, their games have been so boring and frustrating to play. Sledgehammer used to make fun CODs. Advanced Warfare and WWII for example, but they too, are just following the path of Infinity Ward. Treyarch, is the only dev team that makes CoDs that has remembered this in recent years. Black Ops 5 (Cold War) was lots of fun, Black Ops 6 this time around, just does what was successful in BO5 and just improves upon it. From 2007 - 2012 (6 games) first generation, I loved all 6 games. From 2013 - 2019 (7 games) second generation, there was only 2 games I loved. From 2020 - present (5 games) third generation, thetr again have only been 2 games I've loved in the series. Hopefully they start turning a corner here, and remembering that FUN needs to be the number 1 priority.

Simple, they didnt put so much resources into xbox one x
Just a conspiracy theory, but its possible that since iw9 was created during the playstation exclusivity era, it was intentionally made to run better on ps4. This isnt really noticable on curdent gen, but definatly is on last gen.
Pretty sure the Playstation consoles run better b/c Microsoft doesn't want Sony to complain about the quality of C.O.D on Playstation.

Microsoft owns Xbox and Activision, the game is more stuttery on Xbox...mmmokay. PS5 is still the king we get it.
For anyone still using last gent (PS4 and/or XBone) you should be using an SSD and not a spinning drive. It should fix any data streaming, animation hiccups, most texture popping issues for the most part.

@@JensAllerleiyeah thats my guess the cpus are on their limit anyways and dropping the res wouldnt do anything
@@SpendingryanYou can turn off the download of textures. I wonder if they are that good, nobody do a face off video.
@@SpendingryanThey use texture streaming for the CAMPAIGN? Ugh.

It's far from similar to a 3k$ PC tho.

This game is a bad representation since it's essentially made for the one s and ps4 and then just scaled up a little for the newer platforms.

@leviathan5207 no. I hate microtransactions, separate clients, drm, lack of innovation, anti consumer and anti developer practices, always online requirement, yearly releases, consumer exploitation, etc. Do you enjoy these things? Stop it! Get some help
@@Tintin_desi_billalmao. I enjoy this game without opting for those things. I simply just play the game.
This is what I was waiting for !!!!
I cant help myself but games dont look better at all comparing them to 10 years ago. I mean PS5 is basically PS4 Pro Pro, it runs everything in either 4k or 120 frames per second in 1440p, but game mechanics didnt change, and lighting is still same, the games look the same. Sure, some games utilize some ray tracing effects but only for specific parts of the image and specific effects, I dont really see any games that would be completely GI based yet. It just doesnt look realistic.
The lighting is not the same
@ lighting system is the same. It’s still all just rasterization and filters put on top. Look at battlefront from 2015. That game looks so good it could come out today on PS5 and it would be one of the best looking game. Graphics simply don’t evolve that much anymore.
From what I seeing the game runs fine on the last gen consoles. The fact that they are even making games for last gen is crazy. That means games will be made for the PS5 and Series consoles well into next gen consoles.
Jedi survivor
It still looks like a last gen game at higher resloution. Even BF 1 from 2016 looks better.
Bf3. Only game look like that insurgency sandstorm unreal 4 game. Even battlfield new games look not good. Bf1 was using iteration frostbite created for 2015 battlefront and that was almost movie quality. Other game used that nfs 2016 reboot which look amazing. Sadly on bf5 and battlefront 2 frostbite 3 lost that look and 2042 destroyed.
Eh? It's crazy good graphics on PC
Impressive, very nice. Let’s see Paul Allen’s ps5 pro
