  • Here's a classical piece I decided to pick up a couple months ago during quarantine.
My playing is not perfect, but the waves are!
This was shot on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.
Ukulele: Tenor Size custom-made Kamaka, with 5 strings.
Amplification: Roland Stereo mini amp. (It's the size of a small purse).
    This ukulele piece has tabs!
Check out Garam JEON's RUclips channel.

Aloha from Hawaii 🌺 Classical piece I decided to pick up a couple months ago during quarantine. I’m so happy I ALMOST played it perfectly. This song has frustrated me sooooo much & it’s still not perfect, but I’m proud of my progress.💛
There’s always something new to learn with ukulele, and I’m sure any skill really. Keep strumming! It may be frustrating, but that’s part of it.
Enjoy the Hawaii scenery 🐠☀️ and soothing sounds of the ocean and Bach 🌊🎻

Bach sounds great on everything. And the ocean agrees.
Wonderful sound and mood ... and a fabulous seat you found there! Just the right music for the right location.
Let me also point out how this whole scene, the sea, sun, ukulele and the lovely landscape of Oahu is a wonderful remedy for all who have to skip their beach holidays due to the virus this year. Taimane comes from one of the world's most wonderful places and it shows in her entire music!

For those who might wonder about the direct translation of Beethoven’s quote:
He should be called ocean, not creek.
It is a clever wordplay that only works in the German language, as the word for “stream” or “creek” is also Bach in German.

if more energy were spent practicing than trying to look "cute" the end result would be more impressive. yo yo ma looks like an accountant, and yet he channels the divine through his instrument just like bach intended!

@@RobertSlover hi there. i hope your day’s going well. just as a quick disclaimer, please forgive me if i come across as abrasive- i really don’t intend to but this is something i feel very strongly about.
for starters, i do think it’s a really beautiful thing that a person’s appearance or attractiveness doesn’t determine their musical talent. (in regards to the yo yo ma statement.) when it comes to this particular performer, however, this comment struck me as rude. the sheer amount of skill, practice and dedication it takes to play the bach cello suite as written- let alone on ukulele, which doesn’t even have the entire range it was originally written for- i fail to understand how any of this constitutes her “focusing on looking cute”. and even if she is devoting some mental energy to the way she’s performing, that’s part of the performance, and isn’t it hers to interpret as she sees fit? i really don’t like being confrontational online and i try to avoid it whenever possible, but to me your comment comes across as exclusive and almost snobbish. so what if her performance isn’t carnegie-hall-tier? that’s not the point. she’s sharing a masterwork with an audience that might not ordinarily listen to classical music so that they can appreciate it too, and if anything i would argue that that’s a service. i understand there are different schools of thought as to how music should be interpreted, and i don’t think it’s my place as a student to critique them too harshly. that being said, even if it’s not exactly what bach intended, in my opinion the snobbery really isn’t needed. a lot of people i know view classical music as a dying art. condescension only serves to drive more people away from it.
again, i’m sorry if i’m being too harsh here, but i felt it needed to be said. i think there’s a really interesting conversation to be had in the musical world at large about how we present classical music to those unfamiliar with it, but i don’t think there’s any way we could possibly come to any meaningful conclusion in a youtube comment section. in any case: i hope life is treating you well and that you have a pleasant rest of your day.

I had to watch this more than once.....The first time through I got hung up watching her feet....Was she gonna dip a foot in the water or not? This exceptionally talented young woman has inspired me to buy a Uke.....In my case a baritone.
No doubt about it....I'm becoming weird.......
