I am a ukulele player and find that the ukulele tends to slip a lot when I play, my left thumb gets tense in my fretting hand, and my playing sounds a bit too quiet for performing. Could you please do a tutorial on how to hold the instrument in a way that is stable and optimal in terms of resonance as well as the best fretting hand position(s)? I mostly play my tenor. I know it's just the foundational stuff, but I admire your musicianship tremendously and would be grateful to hear from you what it is that you do. I have my fingers crossed that you'll consider posting a video on this soon. Thank you!!!

I know this is an old comment - but if you are still struggling with this then try a large square of skateboard sandpaper grip tape on the back of your uke. It grips your top without ruining it and stops the slip and no one one else with straps can figure out how come your dancing around with your uke and no strap!! www.ebay.co.uk/itm/81-22cm-Waterproof-Skateboard-Deck-Sandpaper-Grip-Tape-Griptape-Skating-Board-KY/124209337063?hash=item1ceb7412e7:g:KeMAAOSwdrRXF-3b

It's interesting that it looks like you go opposite ways as far as the angle of pick vs. nail. With the pick on the thumb is pretty easy to tilt it either way, but the sounds are different (one direction sharper than the other softer direction). With the index finger nail, it's kinda hard to tilt it either direction. I hope that makes sense.

Thank you for this. I saw you several months back in Berkeley and had some curiosities about this technique. I was even grilling my friends who were sitting down near the front. I don’t think they appreciated the ferocity of my questioning. 😂

So it’s basically Tremelo Picking but adapted for Uke? Pretty cool

Ethan Bailey it’s literally just tremolo. I fail to understand why we’re giving it a new name.

Carlos Irizarry I mean, she’s adapted it for fingerstyle. There are a few differences

Ethan Bailey Ethan Bailey I disagree, tremolo is tremolo, simply executing it differently doesn’t change the fact. There are tons of instruments that utilize tremolo but execute it differently: Flamenco/classical guitar uses finger style, electric guitar is typically picked, violin uses short quick strokes of the bow, flute alternates between two different notes quickly. Regardless of technique they all produce the same effect, rapid repetition of notes, aka tremolo. What she’s demonstrating is exactly that.

Thanks for this perfect tutorial ! ! !
I'm always happy that I can reduce the playback speed on RUclips:
    Your "slow" is my "fast";-)
But I always wonder how your two G strings are actually in tune.
2 low... one low one high... different in every song ?
    🙄

The entry song is greek. Its called MISIRLOU and the composer is VASILIS TSITSANIS. Just an information! Check out the greek composers, they have amazing songs u can perform on the uke. Also the song All alone am I is also from a greek composer called MANOS CHATZIDAKIS, the best modern one. Good luck with your researches!!!
