The lady with the incredible lungs is Paula Cole. The drummer on a conventional drum kit is Manu Kache, whose timing is incredible and very impressive to me. Wonderful pick, glad you did this celebration of life and unity! 😁🤩😇
That’s not manu katche? Pretty sure it is.
@@loadedorygun that’s confusing you said it’s not him but sure it is 😂😂😂😂
@@chezzachezza7325 I believe they corrected their entry.
@@loadedorygunSURE.
The studio version is great…but this live version takes it to a level where everyone wants be be
Yeah, I completely agree. But it's almost like they're two different songs, in a way. I love them both, but this performance takes the original song and infuses it with a level of spiritual joy that turns it into something new and wonderful.
ABSOLUMENT. C'est le seul et l'unique que j'ai trouvé fantastique en studio et encore BIEN SUPÉRIEUR EN LIVE. 👌✨✨✨✨✨✨👌👌👌👌👌🙏👌🙏👌✨✨✨✨🌺.
This and Shaking The Tree from the same concert had that magical vibe and emotion.
Paula Cole had a big hit with "Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?" in 1997. Great vocals. This is my favorite of Peter Gabriel's hits. Love this!
She would be a good one to check out. I seem to remember she had s few singles. Or maybe I just played the cd a lot.
Paula Cole is that voice. Had a hit or two in the late 90's. Has new music out there after a hiatus. Also a faculty member at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
God, I love Peter Gabriel. And this entire concert, Secret World Live, is just incredible. Every song from beginning to end.
"Secret World Live" {1:42:28} ruclips.net/video/azas-1zInJ8/видео.html
Yes, should sit back and watch the whole concert. Great way to spend a couple hours. The music, the lighting, the showmanship is all top notch.
Me too‼ I also listen while I mow grass💚🎶🎸🎹🥁🎤
Never got into him until a friend took me to see him live. Then it was like I had a spiritual awakening. It was that moving of a concert for me.
This one was a wakeup call for me. I felt it deep inside. Who am I? Why am I here? Made me look in the mirror and think.
What a cool story. In such a short comment. Wish I could do that!
This exactly the same for me. My brother got tickets to a surprise concert in nyc some 25 years ago and I was simply blown away by the performance. An amazing artist.
This concert is one of the top 5 live recordings of all time IMO, every track is fire
Agreed💯‼
No doubt about it. I first saw this performance at a friends house in 1994. He had the concert on LASER DISC and it was hooked up to a pretty powerful stereo system! It was jaw dropping! I couldn't shake what I saw. I bought, the cassette, the CD and the DVD. Secret World LIVE is a true masterpiece. Peter Gabriel performed In Your Eyes in South Africa for Nelson Mandela. That is on RUclips and it is phenomenal. It is performed with a South African Choir. He also has an orchestral performance on RUclips that is worth seeing.
I never get tired of watching this performance. It fills me with joy.
He is my favorite male performer...he is truly amazing live...every time I've seen him....just love his music....any song from that live concert is awesome!!! That's Paula Cole btw...shes great
The lyrics were inspired by an African tradition of ambiguity in song between romantic love and love of God.
Beautiful rendition. Peter Gabriel has such a unique voice you always know its him. Loved this live version. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and JK Clark
Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
❤
I believe the lady singing is Paula Cole, she’s got some pipes! I’ve always loved the way Peter Gabriel incorporates different cultural music and sounds in his songs. This is one of my favorites. Solsbury Hill is another good one
Like millions of others, I close my eyes and see a young John Cusack, holding his boombox over his head, playing this song. Wonderful live performance.
This is my favorite video to see reactors react to, and I've just been waiting for it to come across your requests (I knew it eventually would!). Makes me so happy to see the joy this performance spreads :)
goosebumps. Every. Single. Time. I so fervently wish for any life on other planets to see this video first so that they think we’re worthy of being visited and treated with respect. This is seven or eight minutes of humans being the best they can be.
Sad that the UK has yet to honor him for his music, his humanitarian works and contributions to all ... He is very very unique💙🧡
Absolument d'accord avec vous, c'est une honte.
Peter's concerts are legendary. And a little aside: that bass player, Tony Levin, was once voted the most underrated of them all (with Led Zep's John Paul Jones at #2).
Tony Levin best bassist. Played with Fripp, Adrian Belew, and Bill Bruford in King Crimson. Probably the best concert musically I've seen. Virtuoso talent each.
Yes! King Crimson. Period.
@@mikeloomis687 Check out Fripp and Gabriel working together on "Exposure", that version of "When The Flood Comes" is heartbreaking.
Agreed , it's just next level , manu is killing it on the drums 🥁 Tony's bass ,peters voice .well you already know ..world class music .absolutely joyefull
Tony doesn’t always get noticed, but he should. He’s not as flashy as some, but he is always grooving like his life depends on it and his tone is immaculate.
If this stunning performance doesn't get you in the feels then my man you ain't got the feels
If you can't tap your foot to that ..
Well ,something gone wrong Along the way ...
What a performance! Joyful. yes. Magical.
For me, Gabriel's performance of Biko as his final number at the 1986 Amnesty International concert at Giant's Stadium is his most powerful live performance I've seen. But, that whole day sitting and watching the musicians perform via MTV was emotionally gripping.
Yeah, I came here to say that. The version on Plays Live is great, too.
I was there and his performance was incredible, I have seen him several times live and he always makes his performance’s unique and enjoyable..
Which performance,@@ronjm945? 1986 Amnesty International?
saw him do it in Philly at jfk a few days before or after you. Same.
@@IllumeEltanin yes A Conspiracy of Hope at Giants Stadium.
This album Secret World Live shows the BEST of Peter Gabriel!! ❤️❤️❤️. Anything you play will be 🔥🔥🔥!
One of my top 5 live performances ever!! Love it!! ❤️❤️
Might just be the best live performance of any song ever. That good. Amazing.
This is from the 1994 concert movie Secret World. Several great cuts from this show. Title track will blow your mind.
Yes! The version of Secret World from this tour is the best! An example of the live exceeding the studio for sure.
@@hrblsh the whole production of this song in particular illustrates peter Gabriel's genius.
Poppa Wemba's vibrato is just insane - that's darn near frequency modulation, like birds and synthesizers do! Didn't realize the human voice could do that!
"In Your Eyes" was the very last song performed at Woodstock 94. I had been holding the roof system together in the Stage Left Tower on the Main( North) Stage 105 ft in the air since Saturday afternoon. At about 2:am Monday Morning Peter Gabriel was ready to take the stage. I came down to the deck, hoping to lay down and relax for the last act. Our Union Rep Dan. DiTolla comes up to me and says "Robin! You can run a follow spot, Right?" "Yes...." I said tentatively, expecting him to send me up to the lighting truss over the stage. "The guy running a SuperTrooper just passed out on top of the mix Tower, I need you to take his place" So off I went, through the Mud People and the 2ft of mud in front of the stage. A big Security guard gets in front of me and starts clearing my way. A cheer starts to go up, as I approach the 50ft mix Tower, and as I start to climb 200,000plus people start cheering! I had to fight back the years, I was so very exhausted, having been onsite for 4 weeks without a day off, and been up since Friday morning working the festival. I expected a simple lighting gig but the Lighting Designer had choreographed all of the hand operated spotlights into an elaborate light show, so I had to listen to all the cues for 20 different lights and pick out my own. It took my last bit of energy to get through this song at the end!
Wow. What an experience.
Actually Biko was performed after In Your Eyes
I've seen Gabriel live three times over the years: 1983, 1993 and 2007.
In 1993 he was surrounded by the best band I have ever seen brought together by a solo artist. Tony Levin, Manu Katché, David Rhodes, Jean-Claude Naimro and ofcourse Paula Cole. What a voice!
LUKY, you....!
I was fortunate enough to see The Tubes/Peter Gabriel/David Bowie at the first major concert at BC Place stadium in Vancouver in 1983... to call his performance spectacular would be understating it! Love your channel!
I was there too..... you probably don't remember me..... you looked pretty stoned..... or maybe that was me..... great show tho huh.... I liked his show at the Coliseum July 93 even more.
Gabriel is an experience, an event!! Deep-voices Tony Levin was on bass, the beautiful Paula Cole hitting the high notes…Peter has a great World music sound here….should be celebrated. A true artist.
Harri, mate! You allowed me to break the time limit rule once again. Thanks much. (I'll ask the boss to consider overtime pay for you, hehheh.)
So glad you enjoyed the journey, Harri. Was that Papa Wemba alongside the female singer, Paula Cole?
This version and Athens Greece in 1987 are my favorites of In Your Eyes Live. Either way, JK Clare has exceptional musical taste. Loved it!!!!!!
I was really late to Peter Gabriel, but when this live cd came out, I bought it and was just thoroughly entranced by how great it is. I then went and got the dvd, and this song for me is the crown jewel of this show. All the words you said are true - it's joyful and uplifting and a lovely feeling washes over me every time I see this performance. The ensemble is fantastic - I'm sure you know by now that the young woman with the knockout vocals is Paula Cole, and the late, great Papa Wemba, drummer Manu Katche, and all the rest are firing on all cylinders. One of my favorite live recordings ever, and like you, I can only imagine what it must have felt like to be there and be part of that experience.
I love Peter Gabriel and this is a fantastic performance. Enjoy!
We are all but children in the Garden of Paradise who just want to sing and dance together. ❤❤❤
Beautiful reaction, Harri!
The girl is Paula Cole!!
I don’t know if it’s his best live performance, but I can’t imagine him doing this particular song any better ❤️
I loved that electric violin! I love anything Peter Gabriel does. RIP Papa Wemba.
That beautiful angel is Paula Cole… and in this same concert she did “Don’t Give Up” with Peter. I love Kate Bush, but damned if I don’t think this one was better.
This is my favorite performance of this song; thanks, Harri!
Peter is one of my favorite artist. He is a genius.
Incredible and deeply moving performance.
Music brings people together. Peter Gabriel is a musical genius.
One of my favorite live performances of all time!
I wish I could've seen him live. This is incredible. Paula Cole is incredible too.
The drummer is the amazing manu katche, a French drummer who slays world music and western rock equally well. Easy choice for this and I love his quiet ego. He can play anything and he knows it and if you hire him he demands that respect, that sometimes sidemen aren’t offered by the star. Can’t believe that was an issue here, Peter is deeply collaborative and open to my view and understanding. Also shout out to tony levin on bass, of king crimson among other pursuits, trad bass here but master of something called the stick, basically programmable bass.
I have seen more concerts than a person has a right to.....I regret not seeing Peter.....
Saw this live in 1986. The Drums here done by the same African group that opened for him along with dancers. They all came out during this song. Amazing show. still brings chills. Their name escapes me. I had their CD but lost it to a house fire years ago.
This was MAGIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Solbury Hill is also a great one to watch live 💙🎶✊
May I say that having seen most of Peter Gabriel 's tours this one in particular was a magical experience. The man is a Genius and his performances out of this world.
Another great performer, this whole concert was amazing. ☮️❤️
Absolutely magnificent performance.
One of the best live shows....... 4 me.
Imagine Peter Gabriel with Phil Collins add Mike Rutherford ex Mike and the mechanics plus, plus that is Early Genesis. Just the greatest combination
Peter is still active, with a new record supposedly coming out in 2022 and a tour in 2023. He last toured in 2016 with Sting and he still puts on a phenomenal show, and his voice is as good as ever.
A sing like this helps us to stay alive and beautiful in our soul .❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
How talented was the band Genesis, with Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford.
One of the greatest music videos ever!!!🎵🎼🎶🎤🎙🥁🎸🤘🤘🤘🤘
This is off his album So. The whole album is great.
This felt so different and unique when it came out. A breath of fresh air.
the drummer is Manu Katché: A session drummer who has worked with the who's who of bands and musicians, like sting, herbie hancock, joan armatrading, joni mitchell to name afew
Heard this long ago when "So" came out and forever took this into my soul on a backpacking trip with my "walkman". Profound beauty!
Paula Cole is a beautiful vocalist, in her own right. A terrific pairing with Peter Gabriel, especially this song.
Never saw this one, brilliant! 💜
Totally dig your reactions. Very enjoyable. Keep up the great vids
He's got a brand new album coming out later this year, and plans on touring for it next year! I can't wait!
Papa Wemba was the one dancing with Paula Cole and did the African vocals toward the end. Whole concert was a gem from start to finish.
Peter Gabriel who such a cool dude he moved to South Africa and started making his own music after he left his old band. He has a Lotta good music
I'm tired just watching it! So much energy.
GREAT SHOW!!!
Saw this tour when he came to Philly. Love Gabriel.
This is beautiful. I have a whole new level of respect for Peter Gabriel. Thanks J.K. Clare and Harri. 🌺✌️
Immediate dopamine release ❤
Yeah that was Papa Wemba (R.I.P.) but on the original studio recording, Youssou N’Dour did an incredible performance.
Lovely reaction….human reaction….back when the world wasn’t totally fucked…I appreciate you, the respect etc..
You feel like a good man
Can you believe this mix?! He always has top notch live shows
I actually saw him on this tour in Denver. One of the loudest concert's I've ever been to. Massive stage production in the round was incredibly impressive. All the performances were spot on.
At McNichols Arena? Or was it torn down by then? I saw Def Leppard there in the round 1987.
@@coreyculbertson5036 , yes it was the last concert I saw at McNichols arena as I recall.
I saw that tour in June 1993. What did it feel like? It was a religious experience. And I’m not exaggerating.
I remember trying trying to get tickets for my father´s birthday when I was 16 but it was too expensive... Told my mum about my idea and she bought tickets for all of us (me and my brother too). Amazing experience, Youssou came out to sing with him (like the original song although I love Papa Wemba but it was in Paris so easier to get Youssou), I will never forget that day!
You need to watch the entire Secret World concert by Peter Gabriel…….it’s mind blowing and such a unique and amazing sound and visual experience.
Yes, it was a mind blowing show. Pick any song, except Solsbury Hill ( go for the original recording), I love Secret World and I've not seen anyone react to it.
This is the perfect rendition of this song. Everything about it is perfect.
You have to watch The Secret World concert. It’s on DVD and you can buy it on RUclips for a couple of bucks. The show is incredible! 😁❤️
The background singer is Paula Cole who had her own solo career later after touring with Peter Gabriel. Check out Where Have All The Cowboys Gone and I Don't Want To Wait probably her two biggest hits. Peace, Love, Courage from David in Detroit.
13:32 Umm, no, Harri, that was not Michael Jackson, lol. Oh, and her contributions to this tour and subsequent film launched the very successful career of Paula Cole, the lovely singer in the black dress.
The woman is Paula Cole.
This is from the Great Concert DVD Secret World Live (2003). The opening song Come Talk To Me is a must see. The Bass Player is none other than the Great Tony Levin!!!!
This is from the "Secret World Tour" 1991 I think? Definitely worth a watch :) this was the tour I saw him
I'd love to see you react to Shaking The Tree and Red Rain from this same Secret World Live concert video. Shaking The Tree is as good or better than this one and this performance is a 10/10!
I have been lucky to have caught all but one of PG's solo tours. Saw him live before I knew his solo work (don't ask) and have been a loyal fan ever since.
My absolute favorite song of all time linked to my favorite movie: Say Anything
I can't just hear Steve Winwood singing this...
Pure perfection.
Every Gabriel show is an experience
I’ve never missed one
The secret world live dvd is worth a watch
This tour was awesome live, check out more! Secret World is my favorite tune. The band here is un believable, starting with the bass player Tony Levin (King Crimson, John Lennon, Paul Simon, Yes, Gabriel, and a million more...). The woman is Paula Cole from right up the street here near Boston. The violinist is Shankar, a master. The drummer Manu Katche worked with Sting. Papa Wembe you know, and of course Peter. I've seen his shows live since '82 and he and his various bands never disapoint.
May I recommend you view the entire concert on a big screen. It a powerful journey!
So glad to see this here. I was almost ready to scold you for not doing a reaction to him. This is a fantastic performance. Paula Cole is amazing in this performance. If you like the Afro-centric vibes of this song, you should give Lady Smith Black Mombasa a listen.
Yer on to something special here my friend...A definite crow pleaser for sure...Peter's musical execution is second to none...Ty for sharing brother Harri
There were quite a lot of people/ back up players off stage. At the end of the set, they all dance on stage. I wonder if there were some drums to the side. This is a huge production.
Paula Cole ❤️
Pure Genius!
My sister got to see him.
I didn't.☹️
