Yes, last encore, and exactly as you thought. The other male singer was Papa Wemba. He actually died a few years back on stage in Africa. Thanks for the mention. Whole concert is a musical and theatrical masterpiece. Since you did the last song, you should watch the first song, "Come Talk To Me."
Paula Cole released some fine music by herself too, I'm pretty sure you'd like her solo. "This Fire" from 1996 was her breakthrough album and it's great. This video was recorded shortly after she joined Gabriel's band for this tour, replacing none other than Sinead O'Connor. She was asked to do this as an unknown artist back then and she grabbed the chance to fly to Europe for a rehearsal, a move that has put her on the musical map as her performance during this tour got praised so much.
Ah! One of the best performances ever! And tomorrow I'll see him end the Amsterdam show with first encore "In Your Eyes" and then second encore "Biko"! 😊
I have been lucky enought to see him perform Biko live as an encore too, it is a never forget experience 10,000 people all crying at the same time, such can be the power of music, simply stunning
The, "Secret World Live" DVD is one of my favourites. I would highly recommend watching, "Don't Give Up". Paula Cole does a great job taking on Kate's role in the song. I also think that the live performance of, "Kiss That Frog" is much better than the studio version. Other highlights for me, would be, "Shaking The Tree" and "Blood Of Eden".
I watch this concert every month or two; every year since it’s release. All of the singers and musicians are stellar. If I don’t watch the entire concert, I’ll watch a few songs, this being one of those few. Paula Cole is outstanding; and the joy of each musician during this gorgeous collaboration moves me each and every time.❤
Last song here, and also closed the shows on the original tour for the So album in 1986 with this song too. I got to see that show in LA at the Forum in December of '86 - far and away the best concert I ever attended. Gabriel is a master and in '86 he was absolutely on fire.
Paula Cole’s first album, “Harbinger” doesn’t get the attention it deserves. I saw her about a year after this concert, when she was opening for Sarah McLachlan, and her performance of “I Am So Ordinary” had a lot of the audience weeping.
the drummer is Manu Katche, who you have mentioned before on other videos. if you ever want to react to a full concert, this would be the one to react to. I have had both the cd and the dvd and loved them both
SECRET WORLD LIVE is one of the best concerts out on video. Do yourself a treat. (P.S. "Growing Up Live" tour is also as awesome, but with a noticeably older Peter. Watch it and enjoy.)
I have this concert on disc, and I’ve frequently watched it. This track, as you said, you can FEEL and SEE the joy of everyone there! Fantastic! My favorite track of this concert is Come Talk to Me. Incredible dramatics along with the music 👍🏻
The entire DVD is well worth watching. It remains as one of my favorite concert DVDs. There were actually two stages setup. One was the regular stage at the edge of the coliseum, while the second round stage was in the middle of the floor. They were joined by a bridge that had a conveyer belt. The opening track on the DVD is Please Talk To Me. Peter comes up out of the floor on the regular stage in an English phone booth and he is talking on the phone. At the appropriate moment, Paula appears on the round stage and they sing back and forth. It is a stunning portrayal of an incredibly sensitive song he wrote to his daughter after his divorce. You have to check it out.
Two nights thirty rows back, one night at seventh row. Peter always ends every concert with "Biko". There is never another song played after Biko, great times. Saw Peter close to 10 times in the eighties, lucky me! An angles voice (Paula Coal) enhanced everything. Papa Wemba is always excellent, at the same concert, "Shaking The Tree" is a must-see. Same vibe if you can believe it. It is important for Peter to end every show with Biko.
A 5k? Good job! For a good cause too. I agree, it's a very euphoric type song/performance and I also love the round stage. And the dancing and movements were just plain fun. Thank you for reacting to this👍
Peter Gabriel starts his US tour in September and he is a fantastic live performer (as you can tell). I highly recommend seeing him if you can - though I'm personally struggling to do it myself between figuring out what to do with the kids for the evening and the price with the Ticketmaster charges
Another great concert track worth watching is David Bowie's Glastonbury 2000 performance of Under Pressure, with his bassist, Gail Ann Dorsey, taking the Freddie Mercury vocals and doing a beautiful job of it. Gail Ann is a fine solo artist in her own right.
It was fortunate that I was able to go to this show. I was supposed to be out of town and that canceled. I happened to find someone outside the arena with extra tickets. Not a scalper. I sat about 10th row in upper level even with the center round stage you see here. I WAS SO GREAT! And you must know who David Rhodes is. He's one of PG's main writing partners. Been playing guitar with him for so long.
The stage was a circle and a square with a runway connecting the referencing the connections between men and women. He begins the show on the square with songs that reference his feelings then crosses over.
The live versions of this song always go hard. Other live recommendations from PG, specifically from the Growing Up tour: Secret World, Growing Up, Sledgehammer and Signal to Noise. Gonna be seeing him in just under 2 weeks in my hometown of Birmingham.
Thanks SO much for this one. The live version is 1000% different than the album version, as Peter Gabriel is known for making his live performances both a visual and an auditory experience. I also recommend *COME TALK TO ME* , the opening number of the same concert.
FYI, Peter Gabriel wrote COME TALK TO ME to his daughter, who was a young girl at the time. Peter was going through a divorce, and his daughter, unable to process her emotions, stopped talking to him. He wrote the song to let her know that it had nothing to do with how much he loved her and that he missed talking to her. Years later, after they made amends, she became a singer herself and joined him onstage to sing the song together at this 2004 concert in Bruxelles: ruclips.net/video/4J1gWMLbV70/видео.html
Yes !
I was fortunate enough to see Peter Gabriel during the "Us" tour. "In Your Eyes" was the encore. I judge a concert by how emotionally drained I feel afterward. This concert was #1 ( The Who -- Quadrophenia was #2.)
Hi JP. Dave from across the Wide Open Space. Fabulous performance of one of my favourite PG songs. I saw this performed on the So tour at London's Earl's Court, with Youssou N'Dour (from the studio recording) joining him on stage. Youssou played a support set, and I became a fan. P.S. my song ref Wide Open Space is by Mansun.
the woman in the video is Paula Cole, a great artist in her own right, she had a hit with Where have all the Cowboys gone, I would suggest checking out her song I Believe in Love one of my favorite songs.
This is great, of course! Generally overlooked though is the live version of this song from the 1986 tour featuring Youssou N'Dour. On the This Way Up Tour tour (1986-1987), it was performed with an extended vocal duet with Youssou N'Dour, mainly during his North American concerts. I encourage everyone who loves this performance to give the earlier version a try! It’s one of my favourites of all time.
Hey JP! Saw this one but in Toronto. The talent onstage is top-tier, all around. Tony Levin on bass/Chapman stick and Manu Katché on drums; what a “battery”! Paula Cole on vocals before she went solo, too. The stage production was visionary at the time - they even had a tree that grew from the stage throughout the show, simulated PG navigating a gondola on the water in one song too. The whole concert is well worth watching. Thanks for this - Peace from Toronto PS all of the footage from PG’s tour in Europe looks/sounds good - a little older now but still hittin’ the notes! North America in the summer and fall…
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed this concert excerpt. Also pleased that you participated in a Pride event. I’m sure it has already been said, but the woman in the blue dress was Paula Cole-she’s originally from the town adjacent to mine.
Loved this when I saw it in NYC at MSG in 93.. my ex won tickets from a radio station and it was awesome.. I couldn’t believe all the stage show effects and it was just beautifully visually and musically..Great reaction..it really was special being there and being in first few row seats… Thanks again for reacting to Ren.. Although I love basically every song he does I think you will be impressed at The Tales of Jenny and Screech Full Trilogy it must be full as that contains Violets Tale.. I know 100 percent you will be so impressed visually and musically.. ruclips.net/video/TYAnqQ--KX0/видео.html. Here is the link if you want to make sure you have correct version…just to let you know there is some not PG language in it but so far I don’t think it’s been a problem and it’s necessary for the story!😊
Paula Cole stood in late in the tour replacing Seanad O’Connor. Come talk to me is the opening track. Worth watching. How about a full concert reaction it’s well worth if.
A wonderful performance. But to me, the must seen is the Athen show 87 with Youssou n'Dour. Unfortunately, most of the videos available on RUclips are truncated versions of the whole song.
You still need to do the album Us. And even though I consider his second album (Scratch) to be the least of his efforts, it’s still better than 90% of the popular stuff out there. And I still want to know what happened with Security. It seems like you did the first two songs and that was it. Or did I miss something? Anyhow, thanks for this video. I saw him on this tour and the So tour. Both amazing shows. Love this man!
This was my first Peter Gabriel tour. I was nine months pregnant and still insisted on attending. This is the show where security tracked me down in my seat for lighting a havdalah candle (a seven wick braided candle ritually used to separate Shabbos from the rest of the week in Judaism) with a very bright, tall flame during Biko. The concert was on August 4th; my son was born late at the end of the month. I’m pretty sure he jived with the music in the womb. I’m also fairly certain that this was the first encore when I saw the show in Miami. Ever since Amnesty International in 1986 at Giants Stadium, I’m fairly certain Gabriel always ends the show with the band members leaving individually during Biko while the audience continues the chant. Speaking of the Amnesty International set at Giants Stadium, you really should watch the whole thing. It’s short enough. The video quality I’ve seen isn’t great, but as I watched Gabriel perform that set as it was broadcast live on MTv, my breath was taken away. If you can’t do the entire set, please at least do that particular performance of Biko.
I know you play various genre's so how about some jazz funk. I would recommend ronnie laws track ' O.T.B.A. law " fantastic bass and the sax is outstanding
How not to do cultural appropriation- collaborate with native artists, let them shape the sound, and then BRING THEM ON TOUR WITH YOU. PG did it right.
Saw this show in Rotterdam. The round stage set up in the middle was a brilliant move. As others have said: it was the last encore. The people joining the stage at the end were the members of the opening act. Great concert. You can pick any song from this concert and it will be amazing to watch and listen.
This is a great performance, and everyone reacts to it, and yet the version from 1987 with Youssou N'Dour is a much better performance and is sadly overlooked
The performance is fine. However, I’m not into glam and choreography. I’d rather see Tony Levin hulking over a Chapman Stick in deep concentration than doing a two-step ditty with knee pads on.
Haha, nice, and needed saying. A comparatively lame tune dragged out, and with a lot of needless prancing about. I found it all rather embarrassing myself. So many other bands, artist to be explored, and here we are circling back to this nomark... 🙄
@@jfergs.3302 Yeah, I really don't understand all the hype about this stuff ! I saw Peter Gabriel live in 1987 and it was already boring even then. For me his solo career ended in 1982, the rest has little importance to my ears.
Stunning song. Universal song. Pure joy of humanity.
This is one of the most joy-filled performances you will ever see. I always get chills watching it and it never fails to be uplifting.
One of the best complete concerts of all time, imho.
@@stephenbuza...agree. Pink Floyd's Pulse and U2 Live At Red Rocks round off my top 3 concerts.
This whole concert is worthy of a full viewing. So many great moments from start to finish. Just an outstanding performance.
Peter Gabriel should be knighted, if only for his life-long, selfless global humanitarian work.
Well they did try but he refused, from what I remember.
Perhaps if they accidentally sliced his head off with the sword then he'd be unable to release any more dire music.

The choreography on this track is insane. Shout out to Paula Cole who joined the tour at short notice.
Secret world from this concert is great
My favorite. Peter is simply brilliant.
Ah! One of the best performances ever! And tomorrow I'll see him end the Amsterdam show with first encore "In Your Eyes" and then second encore "Biko"! 😊

As this is playback I can't say it's one of the best
I was GIFTED tickets to a show on this tour…..and I’ve been hooked ever since. He’s one of a very few artists I will see whenever he comes around.
Now thats a wonderful gift!
The, "Secret World Live" DVD is one of my favourites. I would highly recommend watching, "Don't Give Up". Paula Cole does a great job taking on Kate's role in the song. YES to all of that!! 👍👍
In my top 3 concert videos. I love it.
The title track, Secret World, is the real highlight for me.
Me too! With the suitcase! What a way to change stages.
Same here. I love the energy in that track secret world.
I have the dvd. Have seen it way more than 10 times. What a concert !!!
I was there for this and the Gowing Up tours. Peter Gabriel is amazing live, Sky Blue from the Growing Up Tour is also very good.
The Secret World Tour of PG in 1994 was a changing life experience for me. Not only a rock concert, but also a theatrical and soul lifting experience.
I watch this concert every month or two; every year since it’s release. All of the singers and musicians are stellar. This performance of this song is pure joy! If the atmosphere could be bottled it would be the elixir of life.
Paula Cole’s first album, “Harbinger” doesn’t get the attention it deserves. I saw her about a year after this concert, when she was opening for Sarah McLachlan, and her performance of “I Am So Ordinary” had a lot of the audience weeping.
The coreography of musicians it' s so important in this concert.
Pure unadulterated musical beauty
the drummer is Manu Katche, who you have mentioned before on other videos. if you ever want to react to a full concert, this would be the one to react to. I have had both the cd and the dvd and loved them both
Also have both versions. Digging In The Dirt (CD) ... I couldn't resist, the house was shaking.

come talk to me with one of the best drum solos ever played 🤩

Haha, nice, and needed saying. A comparatively lame tune dragged out, and with a lot of needless prancing about. I found it all rather embarrassing myself. So many other bands, artist to be explored, and here we are circling back to this nomark... 🙄
@@jfergs.3302 Yeah, I really don't understand all the hype about this stuff ! I saw Peter Gabriel live in 1987 and it was already boring even then. For me his solo career ended in 1982, the rest has little importance to my ears.
@@a.k.1740 accurate lol
I couldn’t disagree more
To each her/ his/their own.
You close your eyes and you lost the coreography of musicians.
