Ah, the memories! I was a tall female teenager with big thighs in the 1970s. They did not make tall clothes for women back then, at least not in JC Penney and Sears, where my family mostly shopped. Certainly not at K-Mart! My pants were always too short, which is one reason that I just do not understand ankle pants and capris. I still have flashbacks to pants being too short!
My saving grace was that it was the era of bell bottoms. I loved my elephant bells! (No, not elephants embroidered all over them, their bells were just really big.). I had a pair of mustardy (think Dijon) brown cords that just were not wearable in public. I found some chocolate brown corduroy fabric and cut a triangle of it to widen the bells, then a strip to go around and lengthen the bottom. In my grandmother’s button box, i found yellow buttons with little sailors on them, doing that wide-legged sailor stance with their hands at the small of their waists, elbows akimbo. I put them going down the center of the brown panels.
I LOVED those pants! I rarely wore them in public, though because it was a time of conformity and I was not a brave soul. I loved your jaunt into Big Pants Surgery! (Though I knew the tablecloth would never work and was telling the screen, “no, that has linen in it, it is too wrinkle-prone and too lightweight.”) It brought back memories and as always, was fun to watch!

i had a dream that i got a tattoo on the arm where i don’t already have a tattoo but in the same spot as my tattoo on my other arm and then i cried because they were too symmetrical and not cool and carefree. not a scary dream but it’s what i got. also the pants are SO AMAZING 🤩

Omg I think I have an idea for my mom's old lopsided pants! My mom is still living but has a lot of great old elastic waist 70s & 80s trousers which can't be donated, as one of her legs is 6 inches shorter and her pants are hemmed to her shoes (a huge lift is added), and there are very few ppl in the world with her dimensions. I could add an asymmetrical, contrasting extension on the short side & get more use out of them! There's a pair of white faux linen/heavy crinkle cotton that would look so awesome.

I had a wide leg pant from hot topic back in the 2000s when I got back from being stationed in Korea lo. I was so happy for funky clothes again. 😅 you look adorable.
This was so fun, and reminds me of the stuff I used to make in high school...back when I was creative. What's really funny is that one of my aunts was just saying to me this weekend how she has a distinct memory of me wearing a pair of pants I made into bellbottoms at the campground one year, and how she loved how I used to put patches and beads on things. I've been thinking about that a lot lately, so for her to bring it up kind of makes me feel like it's a sign that I really need to start being more creative with my clothes again.

I highly recommend investing in a decent quality seam ripper! They're so much easier and faster to use than the cheap ones, your future self will thank you. I have the Dritz Large Ergonomic Seam Ripper and I like it a lot.
I recently found your channel because I've been watching a lot of DIY/thrifting vids (since I recently moved & wanted to go ham on decorating lol), and I've been enjoying your videos so much! I'm a plus size person so I rarely ever find anything clothing related in my size, so I'd love to see more vids focused on accessories (shoes/bags, jewelry), or more home decor or crafty stuff that's not clothing related! Hi Kathleen! Those are amazing! I love them so much.
I have some thoughts that might be useful for future pants embiggening. If you'd like the side panels to be more prominent, you should try adding triangle panels to the inseam. If the bottom is approximately the same width as the bottom of the inner panel, the pant legs will hang straight.
If you you're having problems with the curves on appliques, you can put wax paper underneath to stabilize it and help it slide under the machine. Stitch witchery is amazing for regular appliques. I also love finishing the edges of appliques and reverse appliques with a tight zigzag stitch if I'm concerned about fraying. Embroidery and applique is my favorite clothing embellishment combo, but I've also done patchwork panels.
If you clip your curved seams, they'll lay flatter. Curved and Y seams are tricksy. I hope some of this is helpful and not stuff you already know.

Hi hello I’ve spent the last week devouring your channel and I’m feeling recklessly confident to comment because of the shear amount of Chinese food I’ve consumed. LOVE THESE!! Also, my most recent bad dream I can remember involved a giant inflated nuclear reactor that no one realized was a nuclear reactor and me and all my favorite people for some reason wanted to climb to the top and lounge in the cushiony goodness? But then the reactor starting…. Reacting. It was all very post-apocalyptic creepy weird but also fluffy.

AHH WAIT-- is your fan necklace also thrifted? I swear I have the same one! My brother's friend works at a "dump" but people just drop off jewelry, bags, art supplies, & all kinds of random perfectly good items. So he usually checks them out before they're actually trashed & brings by stuff he thinks I'll like. One of my very fave items was this gold fan charm that opens & closes, with a dragon on one side, & cranes on the other. The bottom charm was missing, so I made a tiny red tassel from embroidery thread, & even matching earrings.
The number of jewelry, findings & random hardware he's found is insane. I love trying to figure out what kind of person owned them before-- especially when there's a lot of it in a bag/box.
