"you mean to tell me there's a set of steps that if I follow them, I will be correct and good and blameless in this world?" - I feel incredibly seen, yet personally attacked (in the best way) by this sentence. Instructions, BAY-BEE!
Omg I was just 30 years ahead of my time! I made cottagecore jumpers with gathered waists in 1989 from goodwill selvages (odd sized fabric from the end of the bolt, priced for clearance or sold at thrift store). for one I used peanuts fabric that was printed to be cut and stitched into toys, but I just used it whole for the dress! The other one was pink and blue sheep print flannel. I do not have either anymore, and I was severely mocked but I had no idea I was dressing "futuristic." the sheep print dress actually kept me out of jail twice, but that's a long story...
STYLE PROMPTS: Pattern clashing, -core aesthetics, 'the one item you can't live without', 'You can never have too many accessories', Pastel vs Brights, Complete monochromatic look, 'I made this myself' (maybe a bonus day since not everyone can sew/craft/DIY), Casual versions/cosplay of characters, cartoons, fruit, animals, snacks, etc etc.
"Casual versions/cosplay of characters, cartoons, fruit, animals, snacks, etc" Oh, so like Disneybounding, but garlic bread! . . . why do I know exactly what I would wear for that?! 😂
Oh and a style challenge idea! How about picking your favourite food or drink and styling an outfit around those colours. Eg you like avocados so style an outfit with brown and greens or caramel lattes so a cream, whites and browns outfit. It might be a dumb idea i dunno! 😂
I recently started watching your videos a few weeks ago, and I may have binged watched every single video... I was so bummed when I ran out of videos. So when I got the notification that you posted today, I was so excited. Thanks for bringing a little bit of whimsy and joy to my day!
Maybe a challenge centering thrifting?? 👀 Your favorite piece, most unique piece, hardest to style piece, etc. Really highlighting second hand treasures 😌
The dress looks so good! some style prompt ideas: different -cores and aesthetics, decades or time periods, genres (sci fi, fantasy, etc), you pick an iconic fashion photo and we style outfits inspired by it, you invent your own aesthetics like strumpet rodeo clown.
me: not being able to sit still long enough to watch this in one go, so I end up re-starting the video 8 times. also me: kathleen can have increased watch time as a little treat from my neurodivergent brain full of bees.
If I restarted every time I got distracted I'd never get through a video haha... I watch in chunks, or while eating. My bees are doing a slightly different dance! 🐝
Watching this for a third time while working on a knitting project because, Kathleen, you are by far my ultimate comfort creator. Every upload truly is a fuzzy little gift that tickles my brain.
Great video, hope your hand is doing ok! A pet inspo challenge might be cool. Like use the colors, patterns, and any other elements of our pets to create an outfit based on them!
I have stumbled upon your channel on this fine Sunday afternoon and as a fellow self proclaimed thrift goblin I feel at home. Kathleen I love your vibes, and I love all of your stinky thrift finds.
Ahhh, I was hoping for something soothing and friendly to watch, and here you are, Friend!☺️✨ Kathleen + Mickey Mouse in Uncle mode + unleashed Creativity == A Highly Enjoyable Sunday Afternoon!!! 💖✨
My favourite author of all time is Laurell K. Hamilton. I started the Anita series at Narcissus in Chains, and had to go backwards to the beginning to fullfill my spooktacular needs. I don't know if it is smarter to start at the beginning, but I can tell you, once you get a couple books in, and a couple characters added 🤯 It is the most addicting series that I have ever read. The fae series she does is good too, but you know my particular favourite 🥰
Oh WOW!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for recognizing my look for Day 5 of the Style Challenge ❤ This was the first ever style challenge I have ever participated in and it was so much fun! Plus got to see everyone’s great looks 🤩🤩🤩
Hi Kathleen! Just a suggestion but I think you should wear a white underskirt because : 1. White will make the color of the print pop even more 2. Make your skirt more puffy and fluffy 🐑 Also I really love the sailor collar it's so cute 😆
I've always wanted to do a random color generator week of outfits and also a random pokemon generated outfit challenge 😅I've been hosting style challenges for years...started with decembrights and jeanuary ❤
Kathleen you always come through when I need something to calm my brain. In my opinion your content is perfect for any occasion but especially on a heavy brain day this IS the antidote. You’re providing mental health services and I am forever grateful. Please keep doing exactly what you’re doing because it’s A++
Kathleen why are you so very adorable? Love your orange and blue outfit. One time you gobbled us up in your car ,just like you did that cute doggie and💕😁. Thanks for your beautiful ideas. I couldn't find a maxi jean skirt. I put my tiered white cotton slip with the lace on the bottom, underneath my jean form fitting mini. I recently thrifted the slip to experiment with layering. It's jean, maxi, sheerish, and mermaid skirt all in one and unique cute😁. You gave me that boldness.💕
Style challenge ideas: trying to include many different textures of fabric in an outfit, nature-inspired, history-bounding. Wanted to repeat what another commenter said: outfit inspired by a fictional character. So excited for whenever we do another style challenge! It’s so fun. :)
Any style challenge is a welcome gift not to wear leggings & a t-shirt while daily mom’ing. I started binging your videos 2 weeks ago with my kids after searching for colorful wardrobe videos. They love you. 🥹 The challenge definitely got me out of a 5 YEAR rut. I’ve been thrifting with the kids now for my sanity. So thank you!! 🧡🧡 I’d love to see some ghibli, Ren faire, beach wear, casual cosplay or tv/movie inspired looks. Anything that adds insight into what you’re digging & makes me feel like I made a new friend. 🥰
ideas for other style challenges: maybe a capsule wardrobe for each season? like a week of styling repeatable outfits for fall. tbh it’s just so hot where I live right now that it’s hard to feel inspired to play much with clothing - I’m just trying to be cool and have as little touch my body as possible. maybe that could be a challenge too though - bringing more style to summer outfits with accessories?
Ahhh thanks for asking 🤩 I love an unconventional materials style challenge, e.g., make an accessory or outfit out of stuff from your junk drawer, pantry, or recycling bin. It can be time consuming -- could make a good one-off challenge. So many cute looks. Love the community building -- go Kathleen!
I have sooooo many statement pieces that I'd appreciate a style challenge week based on one statement (article of clothing) each day. Or (this is hard mode for me lmao) styling our basics in a new way! One where we challenge ourselves to dress to different summery aesthetics would be cute too♡
First of all, Baby Snoopy 🥹🥹🥹 Second of all, how about a clashing prints challenge? Stripes, florals, dots, bananas…third of all, thanks for being awesome!
Oh em gee I am here for the style challenge! I think a fun one would be styling an accessory you're new to or wearing a familiar one in a new way! Like one I just stumbled onto was wearing a handkerchief around the waist to break up top and bottom, I did it for pattern mixing too recently with a dress and damn it was fun and I never would have thought to wear my old hankies that way!
I found your videos recently, and I just love them! I've been loving your creativity, and your whole vibe. So thanks for the quality entertainment! xoxo
Kathleen I can't express enough how much delight I get out of your videos! Seriously. They warm my heart and make me smile! Your personality is just so bright. Really glad I got to find your videos🌻
The challenge was so fun and you were incredible running it!! It seemed like a lot of work but you were so engaged with soooo many people participating!! I think it might be cool to do your classic “only buy one thing” challenge but all together to compare on your stories! Also uhhhh have you ever considered making a patreon? 👀💜🫶🏻✨
I found such an amazing old 80s vintage bedsheet with a huge beautiful light blue Pierot clown with a tear on her cheek holding a pink rose and blue stars all around it, can't wait to turn it into a fun clown core dress too as soon as I also find the right vintage dress pattern for it!
@@KathleenIllustrated Hey I did manage to finish it! But sorry youtube seems to censor comments with links. I can try again to put it in the latest community poll if you'd like to check it out :)
I loved seeing everyones outfits for the style challenge :) I only participated 1 day since my week consisted of night shifts but in the future id love to do challenges with pattern mixing, fantasy themes, time periods. PS love snoopy !!
I know it's only July. I'd love to see how everyone styles for Fall. A September-October challenge where each week there's a theme (i.e. incorporate a colour you dislike/believe you're unable to pull off, how we see ourselves as Autumn Divinities, or using your favourite fall food/drink, use those colours to style an outfit and we need to guess what food we're wearing as)
I love this dress! the pattern + colour combo is incredible 👏 A small sewing tip that might help with gathering the fabric next time: out two lines of gathering stitches about 1cm one under the other and then you can pull them to gather. This way it'll be easier to sew after because you won't have as much rolling and fluffing of the fabric right at the edge and you can just sew your pieces using the inbetween space of the gathering lines. (hope that makes sense!) I know it's double the work, but I promise it makes a difference!
I do this thing where I'll thrift sewing patterns even though I don't sew and don’t have a sewing machine but this is gonna be inspiration to pull those out and see if i can hand sew something 😊
The new dress is too cute, great job with it!! I would love to see a style challenge that includes having to thrift something new for the outfit. Maybe some kind of specific piece or color or something.
I really wanted to try your styling challenge but I was sick and on my pyjamas all week. But it really reminded me of those "matching Wednesday" we did with coworkers on my last project. It started with "on Wednesday we wear pink" (obviously) and each week, the color changed. After hitting all the rainbow colors (+ black/with/brown and grey), we started to add patterns : stripes, animal print, dots, floral, squares... and then, it started to become themes like "marinière" (sailor shirt), emo, 90's kids, summer vacation, glitters, countryside, rainbow, pastels, etc... I had sooooo much fun because it really pushed me out of my confort zone, to try and experiment with styles (the good part was we have a street full of thrifted clothes in front of the office)
@@KathleenIllustrated we can keep her online spirit alive! If you think every time I get a text message my phone doesn’t yell “OH HELL YEA” well, you would be wrong
I was actually in Columbus this weekend visiting some family friends and my haul this weekend includes two different poetry prompt books, one poetry book, and a funko pop from the Half Price Books
I would love to do a challenge week where every day is a different character archetype. Like, what would you wear as the hero of a story? The villain? The damsel? The wise wise old person in the woods?
I hope to catch the next style challenge IG thingy - missed the first one but I am in a SLUMP with clothing and style dear gawd. Love your content lady!
I loved the style challenge, Kathleen! I participated three days and posted once, will definitely try to do all days next time! Also, the dress turned out amazing. Love both ways you styled it
Style Challenge: Childhood dream job-inspired outfit. Example: I really wanted to be an archaeologist and was crazy about Egyptian history so I could attempt for some Evie from the Mummy vibes.
obsessed obsessed obsessed obsessed obsessed obsessed also baby snoopy?????? weeping????? congratulations on being so swag with a vintage sewing pattern!!!
Idea: different silhouette than you would normally do. My go to is paperbag bottom and tight small top, so it would be interesting to experiment out of that
My husband burned through the expanse and 3 body problem. I don't know if you read comments on old videos, but he just started a space book called Red Rising which has a lot of books in the series. It's about Mars. It reminds me a lot of the belters in the expanse.
If you are still seeing new comments on this old video, I STRONGLY recommend The Velocipede Races by Emily June Street. I rarely read fiction (seriously, my annual voracious consumption of reading material is easily 99% nonfiction), but I have read and REREAD this novel (yes, it's classified as a YA novel - please don't let that dissuade you) and given it as a gift. It's the kind of book where you're sad when you finish the last page because you don't want it to be over. I give this feminist fantasy novel 5 thumbs up. Also, it's from Elly Blue Publishing, a subsidiary of indie awesomeness Microcosm Publishing so yay for supporting Elly, Joe, and the gang. I am very glad I checked out Artemis by Andrew Weir from the local library. I was convinced to give his writing a chance by watching Adam Savage gush over him on the Tested channel. Artemis is a great scifi novel with a very likeable protagonist. Good stuff. Quick read. Thoroughly enjoyable. I hope to read more of his books this year. If you want something ridiculous and over the top and campy and insane yet also entertaining and genuinely suspenseful, waste some brain cells on Night of the Living Trekkies by Kevin David Anderson. Zombie apocalypse at a Star Trek convention. Naturally. It's ridiculous. Did I mention it's ridiculous? But, it's actually well written ridiculousness. Absurdly ridiculous ridiculousness. You'll never look at an RV driving down the highway the same way again.
You popped up on my FYP so i decided to give this a watch. Really liked it so now I'm going through your backlog 🙃 But I wanted to say that mickey bedsheet was 100% on my big brother's bed back in the 70s! I've seen pictures, and I tried to find it but we've moved like 3 times recently and i have no idea where all the photoalbums ended up 😅 love your aesthetic and your sense of humor. You got yourself a new subscriber 😊😊
The style challenge was so fun! I participated but didn’t post because that’s where I currently am in my style journey 😅 but maybe next time! I think it would be fun to include some outfit recipes like big top little bottoms, etc! Also this dress is soooo toot I love it
I think the dress came out cute. I am wondering if the skirt had written on it cut one on fold or had the arrow mark with a bend on one side. It should have, that would have given more fabric on the skirt.😁
I'm into the idea of different decades of the 20th century as inspo. I'm very interested in the 20th century and all the changes that happened (fashion and otherwise) but I'm not sure how much anyone else would be into this idea.
Could you make a video for the chronicle ill gillies? I would love a challenge for pajamas and sweets but make it fabulous. I struggle with getting dressed since I spend most days in bed, but I'm trying to make a wardrobe that still looks nice while being comfy enough to sleep in. I had to stop wearing most of my favorite pieces and am slowly building looks I can be comfortable in.
Yaay, I'm so glad you liked my outfits! By the way, I really enjoyed looking at everyone else's outfits, it was super inspiring ♥ Unfortunately, I didn't have time to participate in the last two days of the challenge.. but I'm already looking forward to the next one! 🌞Great and fun video as always Kathleen!

Also this dress is soooo toot I love it
Love the book review segment ❤
It would be cool to collectively do a pattern of something, and we have to pick a different fabric for each separate piece
❤❤❤ the dress came out so well!!
AHHHHH YES GIDEON THE NINTH!!! I'm working my way through Harrow the ninth and omg I'm struggling with ortus slow long blaaaahhhh.
I think the dress came out cute. I am wondering if the skirt had written on it cut one on fold or had the arrow mark with a bend on one side. It should have, that would have given more fabric on the skirt.😁
Cartoony theme based around media! Like Animal Crossing one day, Ghibli the next, Sanrio mayhaps?
I'm into the idea of different decades of the 20th century as inspo. I'm very interested in the 20th century and all the changes that happened (fashion and otherwise) but I'm not sure how much anyone else would be into this idea.
This reminds me of the big comfy couch girl ❤
the highest compliment 🥹🌙 thank you!
I could honestly watch you do just anything all day and be perfectly content:)❤
I found your channel yesterday! You are quickly becoming my favorite!❤

Where did you find those fantastic beaded hoop earrings (in the intro)??? SO CUTE!
@mondaymorningswithmel on IG sent them to me!!! So so cute! Thanks for watching :)
Your intro makes me happy
🥰 thanks berry much!
Thank you AGAIN for the style challenge! ❤ I didn't post but I definitely rocked some rad outfits last week thanks to it! ♡
Yaay, I'm so glad you liked my outfits! By the way, I really enjoyed looking at everyone else's outfits, it was super inspiring ♥
Unfortunately, I didn't have time to participate in the last two days of the challenge.. but I'm already looking forward to the next one! 🌞Great and fun video as always Kathleen!
You the best, ester!!!
Tie skirts !! Also ribbon as bias tape is a great idea..I like the frequent mentioning of clowns 🤡
