The little teenage goth inside me is crying right now. These pants remind me of a pair of giant black jeans I had many years ago. Those jeans will always have a special place in my heart because I was wearing them the day I met my husband. He thought I seemed pretty cool and we lived happily ever after. 🥰
I...I still think those TRIPP-style "bondage" pants are cool. 20 years ago, my local thrift store got a pair in & didn't even put them on the floor, they just kept them at the counter until I came in & handed them to me, saying, "these look like something you'd like, so we saved them for you" & then we all had a hearty laugh because they were right. Best part - the calf-to-ankle portion had zippers down the side seam & when opened, the pants got even WIDER in the leg with a panel of leopard print now exposed. I adored those pants, and I even still have them. Fashion trends going the way they are, it's looking like they'll be in fashion just as my daughter will be able to wear them! 😄 Anyway, I only got 1 minute in before I needed to comment this, so now off to watch the rest!
Yeeeesssss this is how it was done! I had a pair with the zipper that made them bigger and they were soooo low rise that... when I got pregnant with my son who is now 17... I could still wear them under my baby belly 🤪
I know this was a self drafted pattern, but I would pay very good money to have this pattern made for me. This is officially the coolest thing and the neo Victorian in me is screaming.
Add a few red and black diamonds on complimentary sides and you could easily make this a Victorian Punk Harley Quinn cosplay. I'd so love a pair like this!
I"m pretty sure I watched the last few minutes just staring, wordless, totally stunned by how crazy versatile that item is and how incredible it looks in every single way you could wear it. That's amazing. And now I want one...
When I figured out that you were doing pants with that extra front panel to make it look like a skirt I IMMEDIATELY thought: "Fire Nation secret pants!!" And then you made the front panel a triangle and I was like "FIRE NATION SECRET PANTS"
THIS JUST CONFIRMS MY THEORY That alternative kids eventually go vintage 😂😂 I would imagine a time traveler emo introducing these to victorians 😂😂😂😂 They truly belong in a museum 😌
The Dropped Suspenders style always looked cool, it adds to the visual complexity. This False-Skirt Pants/Overall combo is Jaw-Dropping, I legit melted on seeing this the first time.
I think that as soon as Rachel recovers from her move and sets up her work room she will commit herself to constructing some shenanigan pants! As for myself well you BETCHA! They will go well with my electric bike!
They kind of remind me of the culottes that my aunts and gran wore in the early to mid 80's when I was little. I used to think they were the coolest skirts I had ever seen because you didn't have to sit "like a little lady" lol
The zipper idea is an incredibly great idea, and it saved my friend's design plans when I showed her. it actually solved an idea she had for her wedding dress for after the ceremony, she could shorten the skirt of her wedding dress when it came to dancing time.
Just realised that these pants make me think of the cargo ones from Kim Possible and now I want to see a Kim Possible cosplay but Victorian style with secret pants

OK but WHY is this my exact high school aesthetic??? Thank you for the nostalgia, this was wonderful, and I will WHOLE HEARTEDLY consider making some shenanigan pants.
This aesthetic is FLAWLESS!!!! So freaking good!!!! This is like if steampunk was early 2000’s lol. I love it. This and the Lisa frank dress I could see a whole runway line of historical meets iconic fashion ❤️
as someone who loves both the victorian era/style and alternative style, this was extremely exciting to watch! I've recently gotten back into dressing more alternatively, Tripp pants being a big part of that, and I would die if I could get a piece like this in my wardrobe.

This amazing versatile skirt is quite possibly the very best thing you have ever made Morgan! WOW! I would love to see this again but "Steam Punk" as in 'When goth finds out about brown and leather." Wow, I am just loving the apron/overall option!!
"Reversible!" So the question I had as soon as you made the bottom part removable was: did you arrange the zips so that the red leg can go on the black half and vice versa? Because that would be another Lewk.
These pants are amazing! They bring me back to my goth/skater phase in the mid-90s. If only I had these back then! I can imagine them with tartan for some Scottish punk vibes. :)

May I suggest making the back pleat fairly deep and being prepared to replace the waistband and the zip-off legs with longer counterparts as the child grows? Because it would be a tragedy to make them only to have the child outgrow them almost immediately.
I am really intrigued by how well this mash-up worked. Despite the punk aesthetic, these are very practical with their pockets and mighty morphin design elements, and that really aligns with the concept of a walking skirt. I’m still curious to see how the rear gathers intersected with the through-the-leg pants bit.
When I started watching this I thought "wow, cool pants", then when you showed all the different ways of wearing them I immediately had the urge of doing some for myself because THEY ARE AWESOME PANTS
I used to have a pair of trousers just like that in my teens, I'm pretty sure they're still hidden away in storage somewhere. I now have a burning desire to dig them out and frankenstein them into a victorian skirt. What can I say, your videos always inspire me! :-D
This is my Elder Emo/Geriatric Millennial soul's EV-ER-RY-THING. Jnco/Hot Topic pants. Zip off pants. Suspenders. Overall jumper. The color scheme.. It has it ALL.
The more I think about it, the more Victorian Tripp pants actually make a lot of sense! Both historical and punk aesthetics originate from clothing that was both DIY and functional. They've both been modernized with time to meet changing needs of the wearer and maintain the more aesthetic elements of outdated functional features, but that handmade, utilitarian origin is still there. I mean, look how this project alone exemplifies that! All the different variations you showed off in those last few minutes. The massive pockets. The freedom of movement with the still "feminine" style. It's the most gorgeous cursed object I've ever seen in my life
The way that I literally had my mouth hanging open watching the entire reveal of these silly silly pants... I don't know if I've ever seen a garment that is more me than this! All part of the Rachel Maksy cinematic universe as Bernadette said. Lol. I love that they all reference each other and pay homage. It's so cool to see them make the idea their own. Plus as an OG Rachel Stan, it's so nice to see her be embraced by such a fun, supportive group of RUclipsrs.
I ain't even going to lie and say myself, as a male, want these. They look absolutely amazing and cool as all aesthetic
Same! My two sides (punk and historical fashion) being paired like this and my crossdresser nature is calling
Oh, yeah. People are ABSOLUTELY going to use this to make their own. I've already started pricing hardware. My oldest and dearest friend will faint dead on the floor from the excitement when I present her with these. I cannot imagine a more perfect gift for her. Morgan, you're a genius.
Film it! and show us!!
Yes. We want to see it.
If they one out as nice as Morgan's will you be making them to order? Tell me now and I will start saving up
@@blacksheep6365 Shoot, I'll have to see how the first one goes. It will likely be a long process of messing up the order of how things get assembled, cursing profusely then taking it apart, dropping pins all over the floor repeatedly and constantly searching for where on earth I put down the scissors. I've learned to embrace it as "my process".
@@christiehardaway4446 that exact process is what I find so frustrating about sewing. I regret not having learned it by now, but I have other strengths :)
I'm a large, Santa-shaped man, and I would LOVE to have that in my wardrobe, skirt front and all!
That's a really sharp outfit and looks amazing no matter how you wear it!
Lots of work to sew my own, but I'm seriously thinking about it!

Go for it, David!
Please, sir, embrace the shenanigan pants! Embrace the Santa shape and make them red, green and white!

honestly this vid was a subtle masterpiece. the absolute amalgamation of the two aesthetics, the versatility of the garment, possibly the smoothest sponsor transition i've ever seen... this was just impressive across the board. I also want to compliment you for including all the problem solving you did while working out the pattern. as a teacher it makes me so happy to see someone persist through a project rather than scrapping it and starting over as soon as you hit a roadblock. a lesson i hope i can pass along to my kiddos :)
As someone who only ever dresses either in punk style or in old fashioned Victorian over the top outfits, I have never wanted anything more than this
MORGAN I CANNOT EVEN WITH THOSE PANTS 😍😍😍 You're so creative and I just love everything about this video (and you, obvi)❤️❤️❤️
😁 You know, I'd be very curious to see your take on Secret Pants....
Oooh. 🤣 sounds like a challenge!
Didn't Bernadette Banner just do a take on a Victorian split skirt? Like in the last 4-6 weeks? Sounds like a TREND!
@@doris1826 yup. After a bunch of them finished constructing a Spencer jacket from that Hamilton pattern, CosTubers have now started a Secret Pants Society lol

Morgan out here like “this needs to be cuter let’s add some SPIKES” I love it
This is the most AMAZING piece of clothing I have ever seen in my life. I lived in those pants in highschool ,I've been playing with the idea of making myself historical clothing.
Oh my goodness! The amount of thought, preplanning, and creativity that went into this is insane! Super impressed by how the center front moves up to the bib and the bottom of it is the perfect length still for shorts mode! Brilliant!
That slightly blew my mind. In fact it might be my favourite mode for the shenanigans pants. Though I'm also super impressed by the drawstring bottoms.
The zip on extra skirt was my 🤯
You just happened to be in my RUclips feed this morning, so I watched. And OMG THESE ARE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! I’m turning 54 in January and I LOVE these ...what you made! I’ve always loved stuff like this with lots of hardware. And they look absolutely perfect on you with your cute hair cut. I’m going to go check out more of your channel because of this, and your personality. ✌🏼
Edit- I just realized that I’ve watched several of your videos! Lol when you had really long hair! 🙂Subscribed🙂
Exactly! It blew me away!

And they're BIG useable pockets too. I am obsessed.
@@atiya-said-hey And, in case nobody's bothered to tell you, men's pockets sometimes have pockets inside them. For compartmentalization. Like, sometimes my pants pocket will have a pocket big enough for my phone. (Well, my old smaller phone, but that's irrelevant if you're making your pockets yourself.)
@@drekfletch See now that's just unfair.

Yass!
even though my dress style isn’t particularly alternative/edgy, i love these trousers. they have some sort of mushroom-y vibe to them and i love all the clasps and hooks and different ways to wear them. they’re just so cool
As a former goth kid I was really excited about this design from the get-go, but I absolutely LOST MY ENTIRE DANG MIND when you revealed just how many different ways they can be worn! 😱😱😱 The dungaree version has fully ended me. I am in awe. Teen-goth me from the past is so jealous and secretly-still-kinda-goth-on-the-inside me from the present is too! Well done!!
I desperately want to see these done as “Adventurer Pants”, in khaki, weathered brass and leather.
I owned a pair of Tripp pants in khaki denim sans the usual chains and excessive straps. They kinda had that vibe. They were summer acceptable.
ME TOO! 🤩
Oooooooh YES
Go for it!
Omg please
I was not expecting to enjoy punk-historicore, but here I am loving the heck out of this whole ensemble!!!
I love everything about this. When you moved the panel up for the overalls look, my jaw dropped. What a fabulous project!
This is, no exaggeration, the coolest garment-making video I have ever watched. During the more explain-y bits I kept zoning out a little bit (my fault, not yours) and then suddenly being hit with a wave of "oh wait no these are sick!" The final piece is absolutely mindblowing!
at the start i was thinking "this is fun, not for me, but this is fun," and then at the end i fell in love. gods time to learn sewing (which has been a plan for a while) so i can eventually make my own shenanigan pants.

"This zipper - which I definitely did not cry over!"
Proceeds to make half the garment zip off.
The little teenage goth inside me is crying right now. These pants remind me of a pair of giant black jeans I had many years ago. Those jeans will always have a special place in my heart because I was wearing them the day I met my husband. He thought I seemed pretty cool and we lived happily ever after. 🥰
Hahaha that's a cute story
He married u because of those pants
Jk😂😂
soo cute story🍀
My jaw literally dropped when you cinched up the bottom. These are so unbelievably cool I don't know how to live without them now.
That is so precious of them!
Yeeeesssss this is how it was done! I had a pair with the zipper that made them bigger and they were soooo low rise that... when I got pregnant with my son who is now 17... I could still wear them under my baby belly 🤪
i have seen them coming back into stock at hot topic, and the Tripp NYC website looks like all that early 00s fashion may be coming back
Wear something with enough confidence and you become the fashion trend. I need a pair myself
"Then suddenly...bifurcation." This is the best description of secret pants ever.
Everybody: secret pants
Morgan, an intellectual: sudden bifurcation👌

It's very rare when "suddenly bifurcation" is a good thing.
The oral anatomy nerd in me was like, hell yeah, mandibular molars, that's the stuff.
I know this was a self drafted pattern, but I would pay very good money to have this pattern made for me. This is officially the coolest thing and the neo Victorian in me is screaming.
I'd be willing to pay for a pair to be made for me, as well as the pattern so I can make more, myself lol.
I agree 100%. I desperately want this.
I’d love a pair as well, but more bland; one colour, no shiny spikes and accents etc
They’re very cool
Hi Morgan! Thanks for noticing! Coming home from a really bad day at work to see you liked my comment made me feel better.
Same here! Or even just the pattern!
THIS JUST CONFIRMS MY THEORY
That alternative kids eventually go vintage 😂😂
I would imagine a time traveler emo introducing these to victorians 😂😂😂😂
They truly belong in a museum 😌
And I reaffirm your theory, I'm in the middle of the transition between former alternative kid to sorta vintage adult haha 😆😂
The Dropped Suspenders style always looked cool, it adds to the visual complexity.

This is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. The creativity, the historical inspiration, the goth inspiration, THE VERSATILITY. I NEED these pants
The zipper idea is an incredibly great idea, and it saved my friend's design plans when I showed her. it actually solved an idea she had for her wedding dress for after the ceremony, she could shorten the skirt of her wedding dress when it came to dancing time.

I can tell you the tripp pants back in the day did weigh a ton. And the pockets were always amazing. I miss my old tripp pants. My last pair were lost with a misplaced suitcase in college
Sweetie, I’m convinced that someone will steal this pattern and mass manufacture it… please don’t let them get away with this. Also, I’m totally not about to recreate this look in a toned down version…
From the mid of the video I was just thinking how she should actually sell the pattern to cybergoth brands because oh my. I NEED THOSE SKIRT PANTS for liiiiiiiife
Well except for the fact that basically these are just jnco pants which were extremely popular in the late 90s - early 2000s especially by "raver" and "goth" kids. So not much to steal. Still cool to make yourself.

I'm not saying they can't try to make a hustle from it, I'm just pointing out that it can't be stolen since it was already stolen to begin with 😅. You can't patent an idea that you didn't originally come up with in the first place. Also, I'm fairly certain I don't need anyone pointing out that the 90s is making a come back, again. I'm 39 and let me go ahead and tell you that this is the *second* time SINCE the end of the 90s that the 90s has "made a come back".

That would be amazing, you totally should!!!
Do it, do it!!
Do as your heart tells. The bonus of goth/punk wear is that the DIY vibe makes it absolutely okay to add a piece to enlarge unfitting parts :p
It's upcycling, I say go for it. Bonus points if you find other stuff in your stash that is equally old and use that too in your alterations.
It's the most gorgeous cursed object I've ever seen in my life
Also I know that Tripp pants aren't necessarily punk but all alternative styles originate from punk in some way so shh
No don’t worry. I definitely want a pair and will probably make a version someday. So this will definitely become a reference to that.
The way that I literally had my mouth hanging open watching the entire reveal of these silly silly pants... I don't know if I've ever seen a garment that is more me than this!
